Who Should Choose the Nectar Mattress?

  • Light and average-weight side sleepers and back sleepers: Plenty of cushioning along sensitive joints for that maximum support and pain relief
  • Budget-conscious shoppers: High-quality, long-lasting mattress that is worth the money
  • Those who prefer a slow-moving memory foam: This mattress is designed for superior cushioning for those who like to sink into their bed.

Who Should Choose the GhostBed Mattress?

  • Couples: Couples need a mattress that works for both partners, absorbs rather than transfers motion, and has good edge support. As a medium-firm, all-foam bed with sturdy edges, the GhostBed has everything we want in a mattress for couples. We even included it on our list of best mattresses for couples.
  • Price-conscious shoppers looking for a latex bed: All-natural latex mattresses cost more than your typical mattress. But by using synthetic latex foam along the top layer, the GhostBed delivers latex’s unique benefits at an affordable cost.
  • Back sleepers: The best mattresses for back sleepers gently contour without sagging, which provides a balanced feel. The GhostBed achieves this feel, thanks to medium-firm comfort layers and a firmer base layer.

Nectar vs GhostBed: Top Similarities

  • Memory Foam Layers: Both mattresses incorporate memory foam in their construction. They deliver a similar relaxing “hug” for sleepers, protecting pressure points and contouring around the body.
  • Gel Infusion: Both mattresses use proprietary gel-infused foam to keep sleepers cool at night, but the mattresses may not feel cool to the touch.
  • Edge Support: Both mattresses have similar polyfoam base layers that enhance edge support when a sleeper sits or lies down along the perimeter of the bed.

Nectar vs GhostBed: Top Differences

  • Firmness & Feel: The GhostBed’s balanced memory foam and latex construction will feel slightly firmer to the average sleeper, and it’s better suited to stomach sleepers and back sleepers. Nectar’s softer gel memory foam construction will provide lots of pressure relief, making it a great mattress for side sleepers.
  • Motion Transfer: The Nectar will provide better motion isolation than the GhostBed thanks to its thicker memory foam layers.
  • Responsiveness: The GhostBed’s buoyant latex top layer makes it the better mattress for combination sleepers who want to move around easily as they change positions.

Nectar vs GhostBed: Firmness & Feel Differences

While both beds are technically a 6/10 on our firmness scale, the GhostBed’s latex foam will give it a slightly firmer feel, making it ideal for back and stomach sleepers. The Nectar conforms more closely to the body, allowing back and side sleepers to find comfort.

What’s the Firmness of the Nectar vs GhostBed Mattresses?

The GhostBed and Nectar both do a good job of preventing jostling across the mattress surface, but for those concerned about motion transfer, the denser memory foam layers of the Nectar will be the better mattress for couples

What Do the Nectar & GhostBed Mattresses Feel Like?

The GhostBed’s balanced memory foam and latex construction will feel slightly firmer to the average sleeper, and it’s better suited to stomach sleepers and back sleepers. Nectar’s softer gel memory foam construction will provide lots of pressure relief, making it a great mattress for side sleepers.

What’s It Like to Sleep On the Nectar vs GhostBed Mattresses?

The GhostBed incorporates memory foam and aerated latex into its construction, providing a cooling surface for hot sleepers and support for back and stomach sleepers. For those who like to sink into memory foam layers, Nectar is the better choice. It’s also a good mattress for back sleepers or side sleepers who need pressure relief. The gel memory foam layer will offer cooling as well.

Average-Weight Sleepers (130–230 lbs)

Average-weight back sleepers should find their spines stay aligned on top of the bed using the Nectar mattress. It’s similar to side and combination sleepers who should be able to find comfort in the layers of memory foam. However, stomach sleepers who want to avoid pressure build-up in their hips should consider other mattresses.

Average-weight back sleepers should get ample support in the GhostBed. Similar to stomach and combination sleepers, who will enjoy a combination of latex and foam, making the bed responsive to your movements. Side sleepers may want to opt for a plusher, softer mattress.

Heavyweight Sleepers (> 230 lbs)

Heavyweight back and stomach sleepers may feel the mattress sink more than they’d like, and we’ve seen reviews that it becomes softer over time. Side sleepers should sink into the contouring layers as the Nectar is compatible with all sleeping positions, which is also beneficial for combination sleepers.

Heavyweight back sleepers won’t find the support they need in the GhostBed flagship mattress, similar to stomach and side sleepers who might not find the support they need for their hips in the GhostBed mattress. Combination sleepers will like the responsiveness of it, though.

Lightweight Sleepers (< 130 lbs)

Lightweight back sleepers should find their spines stay aligned on top of the bed on the Nectar. Still, it should provide ample support for stomach and combination sleepers. For side sleepers, it may be a bit too firm, and they may not enjoy the pressure-relieving benefits.

Lightweight back sleepers should get ample support from the GhostBed mattress. Stomach and combination sleepers’ spines are properly aligned while also preventing their hips from sinking into the mattress. Side sleepers may want to opt for a plusher mattress.

Differences In Mattress Construction

The Nectar is an all-foam mattress designed for cooling comfort with a poly-blend cover and gel memory foam layer. The GhostBed Mattress is made of high-density support foam.

Cover

The Nectar’s plush top cover is soft to the touch; sleepers should find the cover to be breathable for a better. The cover on the GhostBed has a stretchy feel that’s also breathable.

Comfort Layers

The Nectar’s top memory foam layer is infused with a cooling gel that neutralizes excess body heat. GhostBed’s 1.5” layer of aerated latex foam makes the bed more responsive than a typical all-foam model and helps it stay cooler than average.

Support Layers

The Nectar’s adaptive memory foam layer responds to your changes in position more quickly than traditional memory foam. The base of the bed is a 7.5” layer of high-density polyfoam, which supports the softer foams above it and contributes to the bed’s firmness setting.

GhostBed Mattress

Nerd Score

4.7/5

Temperature

If you’re tired of overheating at night, you’ll want a mattress that integrates breathability and integrated cooling technology to wick away heat and prevent it from being trapped against your body. The Nectar’s gel memory foam layer is designed to pull heat away from the body and dissipate it throughout the night. However, the GhostBed’s latex construction comes out on top, since latex inherently doesn’t trap heat like memory foam. If you are a hot sleeper, see the best cooling mattresses.

Motion Transfer

Motion isolation is a necessity for most couples who share a bed. When we shift positions in our sleep or when we get in and out of bed, the motion can transfer across the surface of the mattress, potentially disturbing our partner. Motion isolation assures that you and your partner can both have an undisturbed night’s sleep.

Edge Support

Edge support refers to the level of support around the perimeter of your mattress. Some mattresses are reinforced around the edges so that they don’t sag after years of getting in and out of bed. We find the Nectar to have less edge support than the GhostBed, meaning the GhostBed is a better choice for larger people or for those who want to maximize space on the mattress.

Pressure Relief

Both mattresses deliver good pressure relief, so it comes down to your sleep position and your preference: either the bouncier latex in the GhostBed or the softer memory foam in the Nectar. The GhostBed’s firmer composition helps relieve pressure on the hips, shoulders, back, and neck for stomach and back sleepers. The Nectar’s softer memory foam construction allows it to reduce strain on side sleepers’ pressure points.

Pain Relief

The Nectar does a good job keeping back and side sleepers’ spines aligned, and the GhostBed better positions stomach and back sleepers toward optimum spinal alignment. The best mattresses for stomach sleepers provide proper spinal alignment by keeping the hips lifted and protecting the pressure points.

Durability

A durable mattress is one that will last a long time without losing its structural integrity. Both the GhostBed and the Nectar are manufactured to retain their shape and form. The GhostBed is covered by a 20-year warranty, and its latex construction provides it a slight edge over the Nectar in this category, since latex holds its shape longer than memory foam. The Nectar offers a limited Lifetime warranty, which they call a Forever warranty, for the original owner of the mattress.

Our Final Take

The GhostBed mattress is best for back, stomach, and combination sleepers. It’s also a good option if you love the “hug” of memory foam, but also want the cooling, supportive effects of latex. If you’re a side sleeper or if you want pressure relief on your hips and shoulders, we recommend the Nectar mattress. For couples seeking motion isolation, the Nectar is also the better choice, but we recommend the GhostBed to hot sleepers.

Nectar vs GhostBed FAQs

Is the GhostBed good for back pain?

As a medium-firm latex and memory foam mattress, the GhostBed offers excellent spinal support to back sleepers under 230 lbs. It also supports the lower back of stomach sleepers under 230 lbs, though those with back pain may want an even firmer mattress for optimal spinal alignment.

Does the Forever Warranty really mean forever?

Yes! As long as you are the original owner, Nectar will replace your mattress if something goes wrong. Nectar claims that, if you own a Nectar Sleep Mattress, that is the only mattress you should ever own.

Are GhostBed mattresses made in the U.S.?

The GhostBed is made in the U.S. by Nature Sleep, a respectable company that’s been around for 15 years. This is not just another marketing company trying to get in on the new mattress-in-a-box fad; it is an established mattress company taking advantage of this newly popular distribution model.
