The Saatva has something for every type of sleeper, and free White Glove delivery is included in every purchase.

What We’ll Cover In this Saatva Mattress Review

When it comes to the mattress buying experience, Saatva is unmatched. Saatva was an early leader in the online direct-to-consumer mattress business, and they’re still committed to that business model. In fact, Saatva is one of our top picks for the best online mattresses of 2020. Every Saatva mattress is made to order in the USA with quality materials, from memory foam to organic cotton

While Saatva is similar to other direct-to-consumer brands, it doesn’t sell “bed-in-a-box” models like some other mattress companies with a similar online profile. Contracted delivery professionals bring the mattress into your home and set it up for you with no transportation fee. If you like the feel of high-end luxury mattresses but still appreciate advanced technology at work, then the Saatva is a great choice.

In this review, we will dive deep into the Saatva Classic Mattress and the Saatva company. We’ll tell you who this mattress is best for, what to expect when you order from the company, and everything else you need to know before buying.

What Type of Mattress is Saatva?

The Saatva mattress is a hybrid direct-to-consumer mattress. It is considered a hybrid because it combines several steel coil layers with memory foam. The mattress is topped off with a plush Euro pillow top. Saatva’s cushioning pillow top makes it one of our picks for the best pillow top mattresses

How Well Does the Saatva Regulate Temperature?

Sleep experts advise you to keep your bedroom fairly cool as a way to ease yourself to sleep. It’s also important to have a breathable mattress that allows air to flow through, so you don’t get too hot at night. The Saatva attempts to address this by individually wrapping the top-most layer of coils. Each coil is meant to move independently while cradling the pressure points around your body contours. This coil system encourages airflow in and through the mattress.

Saatva Mattress Firmness & Feel

Saatva’s Luxury Firm mattress enhances the support of a firm mattress with added padding and comfort, giving the sleeper a luxury sleeping experience. Essentially, the Saatva Classic is a medium-firm mattress. It does not contour to the body much at all, but sleepers who want lots of support while still feeling cushioned should love this compromise.

This mattress is good for people who tend to move around a lot at night. There’s more freedom of movement and less of a sensation of “hugging” that a memory foam mattress gives you.

According to our mattress firmness levels – we rank firmness from 1-10, with 10 being the firmest mattress – the Plush Soft version of the Saatva Classic is rated a 3/10. The Luxury Firm version ranks around a 5.5/10 to a 7/10 on the firmness scale. The Firm version of the Saatva Classic is rated an 8/10 on the firmness scale

Since part of the Saatva Classic’s comfort layer is another coil system, it shouldn’t take as long to break in as a bed-in-a-box, all-foam mattress might take. The comfort layers (a pillow-top and initial bit of memory foam) don’t contain as much foam as you’ll get in many pillow-top mattresses.

The Luxury Firm version of the Saatva Classic is the “middle of the road” level of firmness available. If you like a firm mattress, while still being cradled in comfort layers, this is your mattress.

The Firm version of the Saatva Classic is a very firm mattress that’s best for back or stomach sleepers. It’s also the one to consider if your doctor recommends a firm mattress for lumbar support, back pain or other spinal alignment issues.

If you’re a side sleeper who needs extra cradling power around your joints, the Plush Soft version of the Saatva Classic might work best for you. However, the Plush Soft version isn’t the softest mattress compared to other brands on the market. You should still feel ample support around your hips and shoulders.

Is the Saatva Mattress Good For Couples?

Edge support is important if you tend to sleep on the edge of the mattress, if you like to sit on the edge, or if you use the full surface of the bed when sleeping with a partner. The Saatva Classic offers great edge support, so you won’t feel like you’re slipping off the mattress during the night.

Motion isolation is another important factor for couples to consider. The best motion isolating mattresses will dampen movement so that you won’t feel your partner toss and turn during the night. The memory foam and individually wrapped coils in the Saatva Classic enhance motion isolation, leaving you less likely to be disrupted while you rest.

Saatva Mattress by Sleeping Positions

Back Stomach Side Combination
✅ Evenly distributes weight

✅Supports hips & back

✅ Coils support spine alignment

❌ Plush model may cause hips to sink in heavy sleepers

✅ Plush options give hips and shoulders contour they need

❌ Pressure on hips & shoulders in the firmer options

✅ Allows for movement throughout the night

✅ Pillow-top relieves pressure in any position

Back Sleepers: The Saatva is an excellent option for back sleepers because the support layers of coils will keep the sleeper’s spine aligned and distribute weight evenly across the bed. We recommend the Luxury Firm & Firm versions of the mattress for back sleepers

Stomach Sleepers: Most stomach sleepers will find that the Saatva Classic gives them enough support to keep their spine aligned throughout the night. If you are a heavier stomach sleeper, the plush models may cause your hips to sink. For stomach sleepers, we recommend the Firm Saatva model.

Side Sleepers: Side sleepers may find that the firm version of the Saatva puts too much pressure on their hips and shoulders. The softer options should allow for more contouring – cradling around pressure points – that side sleepers need. We recommend the Plush Soft or Luxury Firm options for side sleepers.

Combination Sleepers: If you move positions throughout the night, the Saatva Classic could work well for you. Depending on your personal preferences and your dominant sleeping position, any of the Saatva models can work well for combination sleepers

Saatva Mattress Construction

Cover: The pillow top is covered in organic cotton that’s coated with Guardin® botanical antimicrobial solution. This solution is designed to block bacterial growth.

Comfort Layer: A memory foam layer helps provide additional pressure relief on the hips and lower back. It also helps to alleviate back pain.

Transition Layer: This layer is made of individually wrapped comfort coils, which are much smaller than the support coils beneath it. The smaller coil layer enhances comfort as it conforms to your body.

Support Layer: The heavy-duty main support coils are part of Saatva’s Bonnell coil system

How Much Does the Saatva Mattress Cost?

Twin Twin XL Full Queen King Split King Cal King Split Cal King
$799 $949 $1,199 $1,299 $1,699 $1,899 $1,699 $1,899

Saatva mattress prices are higher than some of the prices at bed-in-a-box mattress companies, but the Saatva Classic is ultimately a great value for the workmanship and materials. Saatva sells mattresses directly to consumers, avoiding the expense of a brick-and-mortar store. Saatva also mattress support systems like metal bed frames, foundations and adjustable bases.

Dimensions & Specs

Mattress Size Dimensions Height Weight (11.5″ Thickness) Weight (14.5″ Thickness)
Twin 38″ x 75″ 11.5” or 14.5” 90 lbs 100 lbs
Twin XL 38” x 80” 11.5” or 14.5” 95 lbs 105 lbs
Full 54” x 75” 11.5” or 14.5” 100 lbs 110 lbs
Queen 60” x 80” 11.5” or 14.5” 110 lbs 120 lbs
King 76” x 80” 11.5” or 14.5” 130 lbs 145 lbs
Cal King 72” x 84” 11.5” or 14.5” 130 lbs 145 lbs

Mattress dimensions are pretty standard across the board, and the sizes of a mattress usually only differ in an inch or so from one another. The Saatva Classic comes in two different thickness levels: 11.5″ or 14.5″. All firmness options also come with these height options. The 11.5-inch height is easier to get in and out of in most cases, and only the 11.5 inch-version can be used on an adjustable base that Saatva sells.

You should think of the 11.5-inch thickness as the “standard” option. Only get the 14.5-inch version if you want an extra-tall mattress that won’t be on an adjustable base.

Thickness also relates to a mattress’s weight. The thicker the mattress, the heavier it is and the more layers it contains. Both of Saatva’s thickness options are well above the standard mattress thickness range, which means both options have high-quality layers that deliver on comfort and support.

The Saatva mattress is also considerably heavier than some other mattress brands, but this shouldn’t be an issue thanks to the free White Glove delivery and setup that comes with the purchase of a Saatva bed. This means Saatva will send a team to carry in and set up the mattress for you.

Saatva Buying Experience

Shipping, Delivery & Returns

Saatva offers free White Glove delivery service. This kind of care sets Saatva apart from some other bed-in-a-box mattress companies that simply ship a compressed, boxed mattress to your door. Saatva’s White Glove delivery includes free instillation of your new mattress and free removal of the old mattress.

Trial Period

After the mattress is delivered, Saatva offers a 120-night sleep trial period. If you don’t like the mattress, you can return it for a nearly full refund of the mattress price. Still, Saatva will charge a $99 transportation fee for a mattress return.

The Saatva Classic mattress comes with a 15-year warranty. If the mattress is deemed defective or shows evidence of sagging in the first two years, Saatva will replace it for free. During years 3-15 of the Saatva Classic warranty, if something goes wrong that can’t be attributed to regular wear and tear, Saatva will repair it for a $99 delivery charge each way.

Though Saatva operates a showroom out of New York City, the company is primarily focused on online ordering from its website and delivery straight to the customer’s home.

Loom & Leaf

The Loom and Leaf by Saatva is a mattress focused squarely at dethroning Tempurpedic as the main name in memory foam mattresses. Of all of the direct-to-consumer mattresses I’ve tried, the Loom and Leaf feels the most like Tempurpedic and at a fraction of the price.

Made by Saatva, the ZenHaven mattress is a unique latex mattress, unique because you can flip it to change the feel of it. One side is a plush, soft layer and the other is a gentle firm layer.

Our Saatva Mattress Review

Nerd Score: 4.7/5

Saatva should appeal to anyone in search of a classic luxury mattress that incorporates new mattress technology: for instance, a memory foam layer is incorporated into the design to add a comfort layer beneath a thick pillow-top layer reminiscent of a hotel mattress. Saatva also offers their flagship mattress in different firmness levels to suit different types of sleepers. Ultimately, the Saatva is a high-quality pick for shoppers who want a mattress that will help them sleep well for a long time.

Do I need to get a certain foundation or bed frame for my Saatva Mattress?

Saatva recommends purchasing a foundation along with your mattress since they are designed to work together. However, your existing foundation or box spring should be fine for the mattress as long as the support system is in good condition.

Will there be any off-gassing with the Saatva Mattress?

Since Saaatva mattresses do not come to your home in a box, but rather already fully expanded from Saatva’s warehouse, you should not experience any off-gassing smells. All foams in Saatva mattresses are stable when they are put into the mattress.

What is the difference between a Euro pillow top and a Pillow-top?

A Euro pillow top means that extra padding and comforting materials are inserted into the cover of the mattress, enabling the pillow-top to keep its shape for longer.

  1. Hello, thanks for all the helpful info. When you say that Saatva uses an old school coil system, what are the pros and cons to that over new technology? I am currently in my second week of the saatva and dont like it. Im lusting after the “Natasha” Black Beautyrest which is of course twice the price. But when i laid on it in the store it felt like heaven. With a free trial period it was worth the try on Saatva to see if i coukd be more economical. The reason i ask specifically about the construction pros and cons is because amajor concern i have with any innerspring is dipping. Any advice?

    • I like the individually wrapped coil systems better than what Saatva uses. I feel that allows the mattress to better contour to your body than the old-school type. The benefit of the type that Saatva uses is that it’s what some people are just used to. If you’re used to a mattress feeling maybe a little soft on top with a rigid support underneath, that’s what you get with the “old-school” type of coils in which they’re all tied together.

With the individually wrapped coils, there is more of a smooth transition from comfort layer to support.

The “innerspring dipping” is not a reasonable concern for most mattresses. Unless you’re buying a super-cheap guest room mattress, the innerspring unit is not what wears down over time. It’s the foams up top. The foam will wear out LONG before there is even a noticeable change in the firmness of the coils.
