The Mattress Nerd’s Take: The Luna weighted blanket is a budget-friendly choice with tons of size, color, and weight options, so there is something for everyone. It’s not the coolest weighted blanket, but it will keep you warm as you nap. It won’t be best for people who like a soft blanket feel.

Who It’s Good For

  • Budget shoppers
  • Those with anxiety
  • People who easily get cold

Who It’s Not Good For

  • Hot sleepers
  • Those looking for a soft blanket
  • People looking for an eco-conscious option

Feel

The cover of Luna is made of 100 percent cotton, but it doesn’t feel like a soft cotton t-shirt. Actually, the cover is a little rough and not very soft. If this feel doesn’t appeal to you, I’d suggest using it over a comforter or thin blanket.

Because of the sturdy surface, it stays on very well and doesn’t shift around a lot as you move, sit up, or lie back down. I felt a comfortable amount of weight on me, and I relaxed quite a bit.

The main goal with a weighted blanket is to feel deep pressure touch, meaning a gentle but firm pressure is placed on you as you sleep to give you a calming sensation and deeper sleep. When I used this blanket overnight, I did experience deep pressure touch.

Mattress Nerd Weighted Blanket Scores

As Nerds, we assigned a numerical score to six different performance factors of this weighted blanket, giving it a total score out of five. Factors like weight distribution, temperature control, and customer experience are paramount when deciding if a weighted blanket will work for you.

Weight Distribution: 5/5

This is one of the most sturdy weighted blankets I’ve ever tried. The rough cover means that it doesn’t slip and slide around your body as you use it. The glass beads are also woven into the fiber fill, so the weight doesn’t shift to one side as it does with other blankets.

Customizability: 5/5

Luna offers their weighted blanket with weight and size options for everyone: from kids to adults and from 5 lbs to 30 lbs. Another bonus is that there are seven color options, which helps to more easily match the blanket with the interior of your bedroom.

Temperature Control: 2.5/5

Luna uses air channels and a breathable cotton cover for cooling benefits. I’d still say this blanket sleeps a little warm—which is great for a quick nap or a nice cuddle on a cold day. But, if you’re like me and your favorite way to use a weighted blanket is over your duvet while you sleep at night, be aware that heat does build up. I woke up sweating a few times with this option.

Quality of Materials: 3/5

Luna’s cover is made up of 100 percent cotton, which is a natural material. The inside has synthetic materials like polyester, microfiber, and glass beads (which add the weight). There are more organic, natural, and environmentally friendly options compared to Luna.

Care: 5/5

This blanket is fully machine washable. For cleaning, put it in the washing machine by itself. Use cold water, a mild detergent, and the delicate cycle. You can air dry it or throw it in the dryer on low for a faster dry time.

Customer Experience: 2.5/5

When you buy this weighted blanket, Luna offers free shipping, a 30-night sleep trial, and Lifetime warranty. There is a return fee when you buy from Luna’s site, but no return fee if you buy it on Amazon.

We mostly deducted points for customer service availability. You can only contact them through email, and they say the window for a response is 24–48 hours, Monday through Friday from 9AM–3PM. We compared this to other brands who have a 24/7 live chat feature on their site for easy communication.

Materials and Construction: What’s It Made of?

The cover is made up of 100 percent cotton which helps the material breathe. The inside is woven with polyester, microfiber, and glass beads. The glass beads add weight to the blanket, which is what gives you deep pressure touch and that relaxing sensation. Because the glass beads are woven into the fill, the weight doesn’t shift or slide around as you use your blanket, so you get the full benefits.

Pros/Cons

Pros

  • Sturdy blanket: This blanket doesn’t move and neither does the fill, so you are sure to always feel the weight no matter how you move.
  • Budget-friendly: This is a great affordable option for shoppers looking to save some money on a weighted blanket.
  • Lots of color and size options: Sometimes it’s hard to find a weighted blanket that offers the right weight for your body type. Luna has weights ranging from 5 lbs to 30 lbs—something for everyone.

Cons

  • Not traditionally cozy: The surface of Luna is a little rough and not traditionally cozy. If you’re looking for a softer surface, you’ll need to buy a separate cover that fits the dimensions.
  • Sleeps warm: Luna holds on to a little heat, which could be troublesome for hot sleepers.
  • Customer service is a bit hard to reach: Customer service is only available through email at limited hours. If you have a quick question, it could take up to two business days to get a response.

FAQs

Does the Luna weighted blanket need a cover?

Your Luna weighted blanket doesn’t need a cover, but we suggest you grab one. The more you have to wash it, the more the materials break down. If you use a cover, you can simply remove that and wash it instead of putting the whole thing in the washing machine.

Can a weighted blanket be too heavy?

Yes, a weighted blanket can be too heavy. The blanket you choose should be about 10 percent of your body weight. For example, if you are 150 lbs, you should pick a 15 lb blanket. Be aware that your body can take up to 21 days to adjust to the weight.

Where are Luna weighted blankets manufactured?

Luna sources their materials from all over the world and manufactures their products in Hefei, China. Luna says they chose this factory because they treat their workers well and produce great blankets. A U.S. made blanket will most likely ship faster, but you’ll get quicker shipping with Amazon.

The Nerd’s Final Take

The Luna weighted blanket is best for budget shoppers, but there’s an option for everyone thanks to the large number of weight, size, and color options. If you want something with a softer feel, we suggest nabbing a cover to go along with your blanket for maximum comfort.
