Nolah Mattress Reviews

Nolah has tilted at a few windmills during its quest to bring innovation to the bed-in-box industry that has exploded in the last decade. Not satisfied with the usual foam and latex used to build mattresses for decades, Nolah created something new, more durable, and more comfortable for the masses.

⭐ TOP-RATED MATTRESS FOR SIDE SLEEPERS ⭐

Nolah has tilted at a few windmills during its quest to bring innovation to the bed-in-box industry that has exploded in the last decade. Not satisfied with the usual foam and latex used to build mattresses for decades, Nolah created something new, more durable, and more comfortable for the masses.

Nolah Mattress Models

Nolah bills itself as the producer of the “best mattress for side sleepers” and promises their models will relieve back pain. Nolah mostly accomplishes those goals without using traditional memory foam. They opt instead for the AirFoam™ they developed to contour like foam and bounce like latex without letting body heat build like with traditional memory foam. Nolah has performed tests proving their proprietary foam is four times better at relieving pressure and will last three times longer than other memory foam.

Now Nolah has launched a second version of their Original 10” mattress, adding a section to create the new Signature 12” version and give sleepers a two-for-one mattress in the process. The Signature model can be flipped from a plush side to a firm side and vice versa.

The Nolah Original 10

  • Price Range: Starting at $619
  • Mattress Type:  AirFoam™
  • Best For: Side sleepers, people with back pain, people who sleep hot

The Nolah Signature 12

  • Price Range: Starting at $1069
  • Mattress Type: AirFoam™
  • Best For: Side sleepers on soft side, people with back pain, back & stomach sleepers on firm side

Which Nolah Mattress Is Best for Me?

The two Nolah designs cost over $1000 each, before special offers, at the smallest size. But Nolah says it gives sleepers better materials and quality design at that price point. They could charge 2-3 times more. They could turn these mattresses into luxury models just by charging what they’re worth. Instead, Nolah says you’re getting the luxury and design of a high-end mattress at a much lower price.

The Nolah Original mattress is a good fit for:

  • Side sleepers
  • Sleepers with back pain
  • People who sleep hot
  • Anyone who likes quality at an affordable price

The Nolah Signature mattress is a good fit for:

  • Side sleepers using either side
  • Sleepers with back pain using either side
  • Back and stomach sleepers with the firm side up
  • People who sleep hot
  • Anyone who needs a mattress that can be both firm and soft
  • Anyone who likes quality at an affordable price

The Best Nolah Mattress by Sleeping Position

How you sleep how and much you weigh are the most important factors to chew on when you shop for a new mattress. Side sleepers need more contouring in their hips and shoulders. Back and stomach sleepers need a mix of cradling and support. But sleepers experience mattresses differently. In other words, the “medium” mattress your 17-year old high school son likes at 140 pounds may feel “plush” to your college football linebacker son at 240-pounds.

If you like to shop for mattresses based on sleeping position, you’ll find good guidance here. In this mattress review, we’ll talk about how the Nolah mattresses work or don’t work, for side, stomach and back sleepers.

Side Sleepers

Recommended: Nolah Original 10” or Nolah Signature 12” with either side up

Side sleepers need contouring more urgently than other types of sleepers. They’re sleeping on the curviest and heaviest parts of their bodies—the shoulders and hips. But the mattress can’t collapse under that weight. Side sleepers also need support in between the curves. Normally a hybrid mattress does the best work doing both. But Nolah mattresses were built with a latex-like foam that can do both at the top layers. The Nolah models are specifically built for side sleepers, so you choose which you like best.

Back Sleepers

Recommended: Nolah Signature 12” with Firm Side up

Chiropractors would rather we all slept on our backs. It’s the best position because it keeps our spines in a neutral position. Like side sleepers, back sleepers need contouring for hips and buttocks, but they also need a little more support than side sleepers. Hybrids are great for this because the coils normally give the right amount of support while a softer top layer cradles curves. Here the firm side of the foam Nolah Signature should feel like a good compromise for back sleepers.

Stomach Sleepers

Recommended: Nolah Original 10” or Nolah Signature 12”

On the other hand, chiropractors would prefer their patients avoided sleeping on their stomachs because it puts the most pressure on the spine. But we can’t always choose our sleep position. Stomach sleepers need a mattress to contour to their shoulders, stomach, and hips. However, if the mattress is too soft, your hips will be thrown too far forward and your spine will suffer. Therefore, stomach sleepers should focus on both firmness and materials when shopping for a mattress. Again, hybrid mattresses are great for stomach sleepers, but the firm side of the Nolah Signature 12” mattress should be a good fit. As with all sleep positions, the heavier you are, the less likely an all-foam mattress will be able to do everything to support your body as you sleep.

Nolah Orignal Mattress Construction

The Nolah Original 10” mattress is made of three layers of AirFoam™ and wrapped in a soft, breathable viscose (read: cotton-like) fabric cover that helps moisture evaporate to keep you dry and cool.

  • Layer 1: This top layer is 2 inches of AirFoam™ meant to relieve pressure, stay cool and cradle the body’s curves.
  • Layer 2: The comfort layer is 1 inch of supportive, resilient Avena foam designed with a latex-like bounce so you don’t feel trapped in bed. The foam also serves as a transition layer between the contour layer above and the support base below.
  • Layer 3: The base layer is made of 7 inches of breathable, high-density foam to support everything above it.

Nolah Signature Mattress Construction

The Nolah Original 12” Mattress is constructed with four layers of AirFoam™ and wrapped in an organic cotton cover to keep you dry and cool at night. The cool thing? You can flip this mattress between a soft and firm side if your needs change.

  • Layer 1: With the soft side on top, there’s a 2.5-inch section of AirFoam™ at the top layer for pressure relief and contouring.
  • Layer 2: The transition layer is 1.5 inches of resilient foam with the bounce of latex, except more durable. This layer also eases you into the support layer below.
  • Layer 3: This base layer is 7 inches of breathable, high-density foam.
  • Layer 4: This is the firm side of the mattress. It is 1-inch of the AirFoam™. It’s firmer than the soft side because this section is thinner. Simply flip the mattress to put this layer on top.

The Nolah Buying Experience

Nolah Trial Period

Nolah gives you a longer-than-industry-average 120 nights sleep trial to test-drive its mattresses. Everyone needs at least 30 days to figure out if a new mattress works for them. Nolah requires you to take those 30 days before you can initiate a return. If you don’t want the mattress, Nolah will send a driver to take it back for free and then give you a full refund.

Nolah Mattress Warranty

Nolah offers a 15-year limited warranty on their Original 10-inch mattresses. Nolah offers a limited lifetime warranty on their Signature 12-inch models. Both warranties cover the original purchaser only. The warranties will come into play if any of the mattresses are found defective due to an error in workmanship during the first 15 years. If Nolah finds a problem, they will repair or replace the mattress. Shipping to and from Nolah for repairs or replacement is free.

For the Nolah Signature 12-inch mattresses, after year 15, Nolah will repair or replace the mattress using a sliding scale depending on how old the mattress is. For example, between year 15 and 25, the original owner will pay a prorated fee plus $75 shipping.

The warranty does not cover:

  • A decrease in firmness due to normal use
  • A change in comfort preference
  • Normal wear and tear
  • Any damage resulting from using the wrong foundation
  • Any damage resulting from abusing the mattress
  • Any damage resulting from commercial use of the mattress (like a vacation rental)
  • Sags in the foam less than 1 inch
