Our Verdict: The Muse Mattress is an affordable memory foam mattress with wide-reaching appeal that is great for budget shoppers who want a simple mattress without being overwhelmed by dozens of options. Although some sleepers may want more variety, Muse Sleep customers find the basic medium firmness of their signature mattress to be just what they needed for a good night’s sleep.

What Type of Mattress Is The Muse Mattress?

The Muse is a memory foam mattress that works well for those on a budget or people who want a simple shopping experience. It’s constructed with layers of memory foam and includes a liquid gel foam component for added cooling.

How Well Does the Muse Mattress Regulate Temperature?

The Muse mattress is designed with cooling in mind. It uses a layer of open cell foam to facilitate airflow and a cooling mattress cover. Diamond Breeze technology adds an additional cooling touch to the mattress: perfect for those with concerns about sleeping hot.

Muse Mattress Firmness & Feel

The Muse mattress comes in a medium firmness level. This is also called the “universal firmness” because it works for most body types and sleeping positions. Muse says their mattress is a 4.5/10 on the firmness scale (with 10 being the most firm), but we actually think it’s closer to 6/10, which is considered medium-firm.

Is the Muse Mattress Good For Couples?

The memory foam design of the Muse Mattress is motion isolating. This means that if one partner shifts during sleep or gets out of bed, the other will experience minimal disruption.

Muse Mattress by Sleeping Positions

Back Stomach Side Combination
✅ Promotes spinal alignment.

May be too soft for heavyweight sleepers, which can cause the spine to curve.

✅ Foam contours to hips and shoulders.

Probably too soft to keep your hips lifted enough to avoid lower back pain.

✅ Great at keeping spine aligned.

❌ May be too soft for heavyweight sleepers.

✅ Low motion transfer means couples won’t disturb each other while changing sleeping positions.

❌ Mattresses with a medium firmness sometimes don’t provide enough support for stomach sleepers.

Back Sleepers:

Back sleepers will need a mattress that not only keeps the spine aligned, but that also supports their back, neck, hips, shoulders, and legs. With that in mind, we recommend the Muse Mattress

Stomach Sleepers:

Stomach sleepers have similar requirements to back sleepers, but they also need little extra support to hold their hips on top of the mattress and ensure spinal alignment. The Muse Mattress probably won’t work for stomach sleepers, but lightweight combination sleepers may get enough support if they spend only part of the night on their stomach. For more options, check out our best mattresses for stomach sleepers page.

Side Sleepers:

Side sleepers require mattresses on the softer end of the firmness scale because they need conforming support for their shoulders and hips while they rest. We think the Muse Mattress is the ideal option for side sleepers.

Combination Sleepers:

Combination sleepers need a mattress that can accommodate all of the above sleep positions.  However, combination sleepers also want a mattress that has a low level of motion transfer, especially if they share a bed with someone. On the Muse mattress, couples probably won’t disturb each other while shifting sleeping positions throughout the night.

Muse Mattress Construction

The Muse Mattress While has a simple, all-foam construction. The base layer of the mattress consists of 6″ of foundational foam, for notable durability and support. Protecting that layer is a Jacquard chenille cover that promotes additional durability and comfort.

The next layer up consists of 2″ of transition foam that minimizes motion transfer and provides you with deep support throughout your entire body. On top, the comfort layer is 2″ of liquid gel foam that slows down and resists heat retention without sacrificing comfort.

Finally, the bed is topped with a phase change cooling mattress cover, made with “the world’s coldest yarn,” that adapts to the ambient temperature to keep sleepers optimally cool throughout the night.

Muse Mattress Buying Experience

Shipping, Delivery & Returns

Shipping time of your Muse mattress can depend on your location. After placing your order, you can expect your mattress to be delivered within 5 to 7 business days. Tracking information will be sent to you via email after your order has been placed. Shipped via FedEx Ground, your mattress will be left at the door if you are not home to accept the delivery. When setting up your mattress, allow approximately 24 hours for it to properly expand to its full shape.

From the date of delivery, you have 120 calendar days to return your mattress if you are not satisfied. Muse recommends that you give your new mattress approximately 3 weeks for your body to adjust before considering a return. If you are still unhappy with your Muse Mattress, you can call or email customer support to initiate a refund. Muse will work with you to coordinate for a local charity to pick up your mattress. Once the donation has been complete and you submit a donation receipt, you will be refunded in full.

You can also exchange your new Muse Mattress for a different firmness level. The exchange process is similar to the return policy, but you are advised to speak with the company’s customer support line to expedite the process.

Trial Period

Muse mattresses come with a 120-night sleep trial period. That means that you have 120 nights to try out your new mattress to see if it’s the right fit for you. Most mattresses typically take a few weeks to break in, so Muse recommends that you wait at least 20 days to see if you are satisfied with your mattress.

Warranty

Muse offers a 10-year warranty on its mattress products. This warranty covers any failure or signs of early wear or tear as a result of manufacturer, workmanship or material defect. If a defect occurs within the 10-year warranty period (starting the date of delivery), it’s advised that you contact customer support to make a claim.

Muse Mattresses can be purchased online through the manufacturer’s website, on Amazon.com or at one of many retailers across the USA.
