Leesa vs. Loom and Leaf Overview

The Leesa mattress has a balanced feel that’s a cross between the conforming feel of memory foam and the bouncy feel of latex. Loom & Leaf have the close, contouring feel of a traditional memory foam mattress with extra lumbar support foam under your hips adds noticeable support for your lower back.

Who Should Choose the Leesa Mattress?

  • Average-weight side sleepers:  The pressure-relieving top layer and contouring memory foam transition layer on the Leesa will be good for support
  • Couples: Ample amounts of motion isolation, due in part to the movement-dampening nature of memory foam.
  • Back sleepers: It is a comfortable balance of softness, cushioning, and spinal support.

Who Should Choose the Loom and Leaf Mattress?

  • Those with back pain: The experience of full body contouring and support as they sink into the memory foam layers.
  • Those who want firmness options: Choose between Relaxed Firm and Firm versions of this mattress.
  • People who want a traditional memory foam feel: Best for those who appreciate the close, conforming personality of the Loom & Leaf comfort layers.

Leesa vs. Loom and Leaf: Top Similarities

  • The Leesa and Loom & Leaf offer great spinal alignment, which is imperative for preventing back pain. For other top picks, see the best mattresses for back pain.
  • Both of these mattresses have a medium-firm feel that suits a wide range of sleeping positions.

Leesa vs. Loom and Leaf: Top Differences

  • The Loom & Leaf mattress sleeps cooler thanks to more cooling features like gel and built-in airflow channels.
  • The Leesa out-performs the Loom & Leaf in responsiveness. In other words, it has a faster bounce-back than the memory foam on top of the Loom & Leaf.
  • We felt more secure while sitting and lying near the edges of the Loom & Leaf mattress. There was some significant sinkage along the edges of the Leesa mattress.
  • The Leesa isolates motion better than the Loom & Leaf, making it good for couples who co-sleep.

Leesa vs. Loom and Leaf: Firmness & Feel Differences

The top layer is a highly responsive foam designed exclusively for Leesa, which is noticeably more buoyant than the slow response of the memory foam atop the Loom & Leaf.

What’s the Firmness Of the Leesa & Loom and Leaf Mattresses?

The Leesa is perfect for combination sleepers, side sleepers, and budget-conscious online mattress shoppers. The top layer is a highly responsive foam designed exclusively for Leesa, which is noticeably more buoyant than the slow response of the memory foam atop the Loom & Leaf. Choose the Loom & Leaf if you want the slow sinkage and conforming feel of memory foam and cooling touches like gel infusions.

What Do the Leesa & Loom and Leaf Mattresses Feel Like?

We rated both the Leesa and the Relaxed Firm version of the Loom & Leaf at 6.5/10, or medium-firm. That means you’ll likely experience a similar level of support on both mattresses; however, the Leesa will feel softer and more buoyant at first, while the Loom & Leaf will feel firmer until your body heat softens the memory foam.

What’s It Like to Sleep On the Leesa & Loom and Leaf Mattresses?

The Leesa mattress adapts to all sleep positions and most body types while The Loom & Leaf by Saatva focused squarely at dethroning Tempur-Pedic as the main name in memory foam mattresses.

The Leesa vs. Loom and Leaf Mattresses By Body Type

The Leesa Performance By Body Type & Sleeping Position:

Body Type:BACK SLEEPERSSTOMACH SLEEPERSSIDE SLEEPERS
Lightweight (< 130 lbs): 5
Average-weight (130–230 lbs):53
Heavyweight (> 230 lbs): 2

Loom and Leaf Performance By Body Type & Sleeping Position:

Body Type:BACK SLEEPERSSTOMACH SLEEPERSSIDE SLEEPERS
Lightweight (< 130 lbs): 5
Average-weight (130–230 lbs):5
Heavyweight (> 230 lbs): 434

1 = Very poor, 2 = Not good, 3 = Fair, 4 = Good, 5 = Excellent

Average-Weight Sleepers (130–230 lbs)

The Leesa excels at supporting and maintaining spine alignment for average-weight back sleepers, and enough support to keep the spine aligned for stomach sleepers. The same with side and combination sleepers, featuring a comfort layer of contouring memory foam that works to cradle the body to prevent motion transfer.

Most average weight back sleepers will be comfortable with either Loom & Leaf firmness level, while keeping the spine aligned and preventing pressure for stomach sleepers. However, this may be too soft for side and combination sleepers who will need more firmness and support.

Heavyweight Sleepers (> 230 lbs)

The Leesa might work for some heavyweight back sleepers, but a firmer mattress ensures heavy sleepers get the support they need, similar to stomach sleepers who need a firmer mattress so their hips stay elevated. For side and combination sleepers, a firmer mattress might be needed to ensure ease of movement.

Heavier back sleepers will likely prefer the firmer Loom and Leaf and stomach sleepers may experience some hip sinkage. For side and combination sleepers, since they move around a lot, better to look for a hybrid mattress

Lightweight Sleepers (< 130 lbs)

Lightweight back sleepers will have that sweet spot of just enough cushioning from The Leesa. For stomach and side sleepers, it provides enough support and comfort layer of contouring memory foam, similar to combination sleepers as the foam layers prevent motion transfer.

Lightweight back and stomach sleepers will be comfortable with either Loom & Leaf, keeping the spine aligned. For side sleepers, you might experience some discomfort around the shoulders similarly with combination sleepers who may feel “stuck” at the mattress.

Differences In Mattress Construction

Leesa’s LSA200 foam is designed to be more breathable than memory foam and The Loom & Leaf uses convoluted foam to reduce heat retention by creating space for warm air.

The Leesa Mattress Materials The Loom and Leaf Mattress Materials
Twill fabric coverQuilted organic cotton cover
Proprietary LSA200 foamGel-infused foam
Memory foamPremium memory foam
Support foamHigh-density support foam

Cover

The Leesa mattress is covered in the brand’s signature gray twill fabric that’s soft and breathable and The Loom & Leaf mattress is constructed with two memory foam comfort layers and stable polyfoam base layers.

Comfort Layers

The Leesa’s LSA200 comfort foam top layer is also designed to be breathable, as well as responsive to changes in your sleeping position and The Loom and Leaf is infused with cooling gel and layered with an extra gel panel above the center third of the foam for enhanced lower back support.

Support Layers

The Leesa’s support foam prevents sagging and improves the durability of the mattress and The Loom and Leaf’s polyfoam base layers for enhanced lower back support.

Leesa vs. Loom and Leaf Mattress Performance Ratings & Differences

For each section, describe how the two mattresses compare. Use the performance scores and commentary from the individual mattress reviews.

Leesa Original Mattress

The Leesa mattress adapts to all sleep positions and most body types. With its cooling foam and additional layers that both hug and support you, it’s no wonder customers love sleeping on their Leesa.

Nerd Score

3.2/5

Loom & Leaf Mattress

The Loom & Leaf by Saatva focused squarely on dethroning Tempur-Pedic as the main name in memory foam mattresses. Of all of the direct-to-consumer mattresses we’ve tried, the Loom & Leaf feels the most like Tempur-Pedic at a fraction of the price.

Nerd Score

4.0/5

Temperature

All-foam mattresses have a reputation as sleeping warmer than hybrid or classic innerspring mattresses because foam density doesn’t allow for as much breathability as spaced-out coils. Leesa and Loom & Leaf both work to counter this tendency by incorporating cooling features.

Motion Transfer

If you share your bed, you’ve probably noticed the disruptive effects of motion transfer. Couples usually prioritize this function, but it also applies to anyone who expects company at night, such as pet owners and parents of young children.

Usually, memory foam excels in this category, but we noticed quite a bit of motion transfer on the Loom & Leaf. The Leesa performed much better, so we recommend it as the better mattress for couples.

Edge Support

Edge support doesn’t cross most mattress shoppers’ minds until they’re sitting (or sinking) on the edge of the bed. It’s worth noting because good edge support also translates into more usable space on the mattress surface.

Some mattresses have dedicated edge support features, but Leesa and Loom & Leaf stick with high-density foam base layers. We found the Loom & Leaf to provide superior edge support, though an average-weight person probably won’t roll off either bed.

Pressure Relief

The amount of pressure relief you need, depends on your sleeping position. Side sleepers need the most, and stomach sleepers need the least. See the best mattresses for side sleepers if you are looking for optimal pressure relief.

Pain Relief

Medium-firm mattresses—like the Leesa and Loom & Leaf—usually provide enough cushion around pressure points to keep sleepers ache-free. However, lightweight side sleepers may not sink deep enough into either mattress to rest comfortably.

Durability

Mixed foam and memory foam mattresses tend to maintain their integrity for around seven years. However, Leesa and Loom & Leaf are both covered by a warranty against defects for at least a decade. It should last for many years if you’re not jumping on the bed or subjecting your mattress to extreme environments.

Our Final Take

In wrapping up this Loom & Leaf vs. Leesa mattress comparison, we can’t say that one mattress is better than the other, but we do recommend each bed to different kinds of sleepers. The Leesa is better for value-minded shoppers who want a versatile all-foam mattress. It’s soft enough for the average side sleeper, and supportive enough for back sleepers. The responsive top layer is ideal for combination sleepers and isolates motion for couples.

The Loom & Leaf is our preferred pick for memory foam lovers who are looking for a classic memory foam feel. It’s also better suited to those who overheat on traditional memory foam, thanks to cooling gel and a breathable construction. The Relaxed Firm option is ideal for back sleepers, and the Firm option is best for stomach sleepers.

Leesa & Loom and Leaf FAQs

How long do Leesa mattresses last?

We expect your Leesa mattress to last around seven years before showing signs of wear and tear. To get as many years of use as possible, it’s important to care for your mattress—keeping it clean and setting it up on a supportive base or bed frame.

Is the Loom & Leaf mattress flippable?

No, the Loom & Leaf is a one-sided mattress, but it’s offered in two different firmness levels: Relaxed Firm and Firm. If you’re interested in a flippable memory foam mattress, check out the Layla mattress.

How is Loom & Leaf less expensive than Tempurpedic?

Since Saatva is the only retailer, there is no additional cost for rent, commission, traditional marketing, and inventory inefficiencies.
