Best Brentwood Home Mattress by Sleeping Position

I take the time to talk about sleep position here because of how important it can be to determining the quality of your sleep. It’s not just your body type and the firmness of the mattress that hinders or helps you sleep. How you place your body on the bed also matters. It would be impossible for every mattress to feel good to every type of sleeper with every type of body demanding every level of firmness under the sun. So here we take a moment to discuss how each Brentwood mattress works for side, stomach and back sleepers.

Side Sleepers

RECOMMENDED: Take your pick of the Brentwood Home models

If you sleep on your side, you should look for a mattress that balances pressure relief, contour, firmness, and lower back support. Your hips and shoulders carry much of your weight while you sleep on your side, so the mattress must curve around them without losing support and creating stress on your torso or other joints. Different materials working together can accomplish all of that, which is why hybrid mattresses work so well for side sleepers. Also, and not for nothing, mattress companies know that building medium to medium-firm mattresses will cover a wide range of the population since most people do sleep, at least some, on their sides. These models don’t stray too far from medium on either end of the firmness spectrum. And four of the five are hybrids. They’re also the hybrids are very thick mattresses, at least 12 inches each. As a result, side sleepers in every weight class should be OK on the hybrids.

Back Sleepers

RECOMMENDED: Crystal Cove, Ojai, 11-inch Cypress Bamboo Gel

You do your bones and joints and muscles a huge favor if you sleep on your back. That’s because sleeping on your back is the least harmful to your body. Your spine rests in a neutral position and the mattress has gentle curves to accommodate, instead of the more weighty and wide hips and shoulders. Still, don’t ignore proper support either. Your neck and spine will always need that. Shoot for a model in the medium to medium-firm range for average-weighted people and medium-firm to anyone carrying more weight on their body. You need your spine to keep its beautiful and functional, curved shape at all times. The medium-firm versions like the gentle firm side of the Crystal Cove, the 11-inch Cypress Bamboo Gel and the Ojai, are all good choices.

Stomach Sleepers

RECOMMENDED: Crystal Cove, Ojai, 11-inch Cypress Bamboo Gel

Again, medium-firm mattresses are normally a good fit for stomach sleepers. Stomach sleepers can find mattress shopping a little more of a challenge since it’s tough on the body to sleep face down. That puts all your weight on your chest, stomach and hips. You’ll need a mattress with an adaptive top layer to accommodate those body parts. But it can’t be too soft since, if your hips sink too far, your spine will get thrown out of alignment. You know that is a recipe for a sore back and hips. Hybrid mattresses like the Crystal Cove and Ojai, and a medium-firm Cypress Bamboo Gel have enough contouring and support to help most stomach sleepers.

Brentwood Cedar Natural Luxe Mattress Construction

The Brentwood Cedar Natural Luxe mattress has a 3-inch quilted and removable topper on top of the actual 12-inch mattress section made of organic wool, latex, innerspring coils and coconut husks.

  • Layer 1: This is the topper. It is an organic cotton cover is hand-tufted to a hydrated natural fire barrier made of hydrated silica sand, Joma wool to wick moisture and keep air flowing. Then there’s a section of Dunlop latex for bounce. Just writing that exhausted me. That’s just the topper. There is so much going on here.
  • Layer 2: The top of the mattress, under another section of organic fabric and cotton batting, is 1 inch of Alpaca wool. It’s naturally hypoallergenic and flame resistant while adding even more of a plush feel at the top of the entire model.
  • Layer 3: The wool from above cuddles with 1.5 inches of articulated and zoned organic Dunlop latex in what I’ll call the comfort layer. “Articulated” in this case means it’s cut, at the top, like a row of teeth. “Zoned” means there are three different densities that will contour to your legs, lower back and shoulders in turn, because they all weigh differently. That helps keep your spine straight.
  • Layer 4: The support layer is a thick, 8-inch section of wrapped coils. This layer helps make the body contouring more precise, since the coils can move independently to your body. The coils are thicker in the lumbar region to support the curve of your spine, while also giving the mattress strong edge support and isolating motion.
  • Layer 5: Holding everything up is an additional ½ inch layer made of coconut husks. The completely organic section, which is also antimicrobial, gives a strong base to the whole unit while promoting air flow.

Brentwood Oceano Mattress Construction

The Brentwood Oceano mattress is constructed with

  • Layer 1: The cover is made of Tencel fabric, which is made of fibers from eucalyptus trees. That cover is quilted with thick Joma wool to create a plush Euro-pillow top. The fabric cover releases heat. The wool layer wicks moisture and is naturally flame-resistant.
  • Layer 2: This 2-inch layer of gel memory foam is for cooling and pressure relief.
  • Layer 3: This is a 2.5-inch section of recycled steel microcoils. “Micro” in the sense that the coils are made of a thinner, finer gauge of springs for a more gentle contouring and support at the top of the mattress.
  • Layer 4: This is 2-inches of Serene Cool Air Luxe Foam™ for more pressure relief and cooling.
  • Layer 5: The support layer is a 4.5-inch section of individually wrapped coils, a thicker gauge than the microcoils. It is really five zones that adapt to your shoulders, back and legs as needed. Even the coils along the edges are reinforced for better edge support.

Brentwood Crystal Cove Mattress Construction

The Brentwood Crystal Cove mattress is a three-layer hybrid model that was designed to be flippable. One side is natural latex and the other is organic cotton and it’s all wrapped in a gorgeously quilted, cotton cover.

  • Layer 1: When the luxury plush layer is on top, it’s 2 inches of pressure-relieving, memory foam infused with activated charcoal. The charcoal is supposed to enhance the recovery process by purifying the body and releasing heat.
  • Layer 2: Under that is a 1-inch layer of CertiPUR-US flow foam. It conforms to the body, relieving pressure and mostly just making you comfortable.
  • Layer 3: This is the 8-inch, five-zone, individually wrapped coil layer in the middle that acts as the support layer whichever side you sleep on.
  • Layer 4: This is 2 inches natural Dunlop latex. Medium firm feel

Brentwood Cypress Bamboo Gel Mattress Construction

The Brentwood Cypress Bamboo Gel mattress is made of several layers of foam. It comes in an 11-inch a medium-firm and a 13-inch medium.

  • Layer 1: The removable cover is quilted with a breathable cellulose made of bamboo and organic wool for naturally cooling and moisture wicking.
  • Layer 2: This comfort layer has 2.5 inches of gel memory foam in the 11-inch version and 3.5 for the 13-inch. The foam relieves pressure, distributes your weight, isolates motion and feels cool thanks to the gel.
  • Layer 3: In both versions, there is a 2-inch layer of a non-toxic, Airlux foam. “Air” means it is constructed to allow air to flow through and keep you and the mattress cooler.
  • Layer 4: The support layer is 6.5 inches of base foam in the 11-inch mattress and 7.5 in the 13-inch.

Brentwood Ojai Mattress Construction

The Brentwood Ojai mattress is a hybrid made of layers of memory foam, latex and pocket coils.

  • Layer 1: The cover is made of a stretch Tencel fabric that breathes and is soft like silk. It’s hand-tufted (no chemical adhesives!) to organic wool for a nice plush at the very top of the mattress where it touches your skin.
  • Layer 2: The comfort layer is 1.5 inches of CertiPUR-US Certified “Flo Foam” that contours and relieves pressure.
  • Layer 3: Another part of the comfort layer is 1.5 inches of cooling gel memory foam that also relieves pressure on your shoulders and hips and isolates motion for undisturbed sleep with a partner.
  • Layer 4: The last part of the comfort layer is 1 Inch of natural latex that has bounce so you don’t feel stuck inside the mattress.
  • Layer 5: The support layer is 8 inches of individually wrapped base coils that are zoned to properly support the hips, back and shoulders without feeling too hard. There are also stronger coils along the edges so the entire surface can be used for sleep.
  • Layer 6: There is also an additional 1-inch slab of natural latex at the bottom for additional support.

The Brentwood Home Buying Experience

Brentwood Trial Period

Brentwood gives you an entire year to test-drive its mattress. They ask that you try it for at least 30 days before returning it. Most people need that long to adapt to a new mattress anyway. If the mattress doesn’t work for you, alert the Brentwood people via web chat or phone call. They pay refunds only after the mattress is received and inspected, or your donation to a charity is verified. The company wants to recycle it or donate it if at all possible. All returns are free.

Brentwood Mattress Warranty

Brentwood Home offers a 25-year limited warranty to original owners only for faulty workmanship or defects in materials. Don’t tear off the Law Tag, the one we’re all tempted to tear off. Just leave it there or you’ll invalidate the warranty.

In the first 10 years, Brentwood will repair or replace a damaged mattress without charge, though you’ll pay for shipping and have to arrange all of the transportation to and from Brentwood. Over the last 15 years, they will prorate your payment based on how many years you’ve already used the mattress.

The warranty covers visible sags greater than 2 inches that didn’t result from you abusing the mattress or using a poor foundation. The warranty does not cover normal wear and tear or change in comfort preference either.

Shipping and Delivery

Brentwood ships free to all lower 48 states. The mattresses are compressed into boxes for shipping. They take 3-5 days to construct and will arrive roughly 1-2 weeks after you order it. You can pay extra for White Glove or curbside delivery service, but that will add two weeks to your delivery time.

 Financing

You can finance any Brentwood purchase over 3, 6 or 12 months at 0% APR with Affirm. Choose the financing option at checkout and Affirm will do a “soft” credit check on you, that will not affect your credit score, to see if you’re eligible.

teamed up to provide a range of financing options on your order.

Availability

The Brentwood mattresses are currently only available online at the company website, although you can find older Brentwood Home models at Costco.

Conclusion

In summary, if you are looking for a quality mattress at an economical price point, Brentwood may be the brand for you.

The Brentwood Home line of mattresses offers a comprehensive lineup of environmentally safe hybrids and one all-foam model. Because of the plush, comfort details at the top of each mattress and the thick profile (12 inches at the thinnest), by and large, the Brentwood mattresses manage to be good options for most sleep positions regardless of the weight of the sleeper. In other words, they’re soft enough at the top for light-weight people and thick enough that even heavier sleepers won’t engage the support layer and can rest comfortably.

The mattresses, except the pricey Cedar Luxe version which is the most expensive, come in the middle price range. Brentwood Home has produced mattresses for people who care about wisely using the earth’s resources. You should see them a great long-term investment that will support you as you sleep and make you feel good about the earth.
