Anyone researching memory foam mattresses is likely to run across Loom & Leaf by Saatva and the GhostBed. But while both are made with memory foam, that’s really where the similarities end. In this comparison, we’re going over all the details you need to know about the Loom & Leaf and GhostBed mattresses.
The Loom & Leaf is made with premium memory foam to deliver the signature contouring feel of this material. It’s available in two firmness options. The GhostBed combines comfort layers of memory foam and latex for a medium feel that has more bounce and support than all-foam options.
Loom & Leaf is best for… | GhostBed is best for… |
Side sleepers | Hot sleepers |
Couples | Sleepers with back pain |
Sleepers who like the hugged feel of memory foam | Back sleepers |
Both mattresses are made with memory foam, but they have a different feel.
The Loom & Leaf is available with a relaxed firm or firm feel. The Relaxed Firm is about a 6 on a 1 to 10 firmness scale, which should be universally comfortable for lightweight, average-weight, and heavyweight sleepers. The firm option is about an 8, which will feel quite firm to all sleepers, especially those in the lightweight range.
The GhostBed is only available in one firmness. It’s a medium-firm feel, around a 6 on the firmness scale. Lightweight and average-weight sleepers should find it feels supported, but soft. Heavyweight sleepers will sink in more deeply, so it’ll have a softer feel.
The Loom & Leaf has a true memory foam feel in both firmness levels, but it’s more pronounced in the relaxed firm option. The GhostBed mattress has memory foam too, but the latex layer below doesn’t have the same hugged sensation. You’ll feel like you’re sleeping “on” it as opposed to “in” it.
Side and back sleepers will find the relaxed firm Loom & Leaf will keep them nicely cushioned and supported. The firmer option is best suited to stomach and back sleepers, so it works well for combination sleepers who flip from back to front. It’ll feel firm, but comfortable.
The GhostBed is a good option for back and stomach sleepers because of its strong support layers–they’ll find it comfortably firm and a little bouncy. Side sleepers may find they want a mattress with greater pressure relief and more contouring in the shoulders and hips. Combination sleepers will need to consider whether they spend much time on their sides before purchasing.
Loom & Leaf Performance By Body Type & Sleeping Position:
Body Type: | BACK SLEEPERS | STOMACH SLEEPERS | SIDE SLEEPERS |
Lightweight (< 130 lbs): | 5 | 5 | 3 |
Average-weight (130–230 lbs): | 5 | 5 | 4 |
Heavyweight (> 230 lbs): | 4 | 3 | 4 |
GhostBed Performance By Body Type & Sleeping Position:
Body Type: | BACK SLEEPERS | STOMACH SLEEPERS | SIDE SLEEPERS |
Lightweight (< 130 lbs): | 4 | 4 | 2 |
Average-weight (130–230 lbs): | 4 | 4 | 3 |
Heavyweight (> 230 lbs): | 2 | 3 | 2 |
Average-weight back and stomach sleepers should sleep quite comfortably on the Loom & Leaf in either firmness. Side and side sleepers in this weight range should also have the support and cushioning they need, though the relaxed firm feel is probably the better pick.
On the GhostBed, back and stomach sleepers should likewise be nicely supported. Side sleepers may want to explore a plusher mattress, and combination sleepers should keep that in mind as well.
Heavyweight back sleepers should get the support they need for a good night’s sleep with the firmer model. Stomach sleepers, however, will likely find their hips sink too deeply to maintain spinal alignment. Side and combination sleepers in this weight range will sink in enough to be cradled nicely.
The GhostBed likely won’t have the support back sleepers in this weight range need to keep the hips lifted, and the same is true of stomach sleepers. Side sleepers will likely want to explore a plusher mattress.
The Loom & Leaf in the relaxed firm model is a great mattress for lightweight back and stomach sleepers. Side sleepers in this weight range, however, will probably find it lacks contouring in the shoulders. Combination sleepers who sleep on their sides should also consider a softer mattress.
The GhostBed isn’t the best fit for heavyweight sleepers in general. Back and stomach sleepers won’t get the hip support they need, and side sleepers will likely find that they sink in beyond the comfort layers.
The Loom & Leaf mattress is 12 inches tall, with six layers of memory, comfort, and support foams. The GhostBed is 11 inches tall. It’s made with three layers, including latex, memory foam, and high-density support foam.
Loom & Leaf Mattress Materials | GhostBed Mattress Materials |

Gel foam | Synthetic latex |

The Loom & Leaf is wrapped in an organic cotton cover that’s quilted with foam. The GhostBed has a soft viscose fabric that helps wick away moisture and heat.
The comfort layers in the Loom & Leaf are made with premium memory foam. In the GhostBed, a layer of perforated synthetic latex is positioned above a gel-infused layer of memory foam for pressure relief.
Both support layers in the Loom & Leaf are made with high-density foams. The same is true in the GhostBed.

The Loom & Leaf has some cooling features, like gel-infused and perforated foams, but it doesn’t have the breathability of a hybrid mattress.
The GhostBed is a memory foam mattress too, though it does sleep cooler than the Loom & Leaf. However, if you sleep warm, you may want to look for mattresses that are specifically designed for hot sleepers.
Couples will find excellent motion isolation on the Loom & Leaf, thanks to its memory foam construction. The latex layer on the GhostBed makes it a little more responsive and a touch bouncier.
Edge support can be tricky on memory foam mattresses, and the Loom & Leaf is just okay in this regard. On the GhostBed, the latex helps add a little durability, which means slightly better edge support.
The premium foams in the Loom & Leaf are contouring for good pressure relief. But the GhostBed doesn’t relieve pressure as well, especially for side sleepers, in spite of the memory foam and latex layers.
The Loom & Leaf mattress should help those with lower back pain up to about 230 pounds because the foams are supportive enough to maintain neutral spinal alignment.
The same is true with the GhostBed. While it doesn’t get high marks for pressure relief, its supportive foams make it a good pick if you’re looking to relieve back pain.
The Loom & Leaf mattress is made with premium foams, so you can expect it to last somewhere between 8 and 10 years. Memory foam can be prone to forming body impressions, but remember that this mattress does have a lifetime warranty.
The GhostBed has a slightly shorter lifespan, likely between 7 and 8 years.
Saatva ships its Loom & Leaf mattress with white glove service, which means it will be set up in a room of your choosing. It has a 365-night trial period and a lifetime warranty.
The GhostBed is shipped compressed, rolled, and tucked into a big box. It ships free to the 48 contiguous states. It has a 101-night trial window, with a 20-year warranty.

The Loom & Leaf’s traditional memory foam feel and range of firmess options makes it a good option for a pretty broad range of sleepers. With its superior motion isolation, it works well for couples, but it may not be ideal for those who sleep hot.
The GhostBed is a more affordable memory foam mattress with several cooling features. The latex layer means this has a more responsive feel, so couples can expect some motion transfer.
With its memory foam comfort layers and high-density foams below, the GhostBed is similar to other bed-in-a-box models like the Casper Original and the Tuft & Needle Original mattress. They all have a similar medium-firm feel, which is a nice balance of supportive but comfortable, with a gently hugged sensation.
A company called Nature’s Sleep makes GhostBed. The company manufactures other mattresses, as well as bedding products like toppers and foundations. Nature’s Sleep CEO, Mark Werner started the company to invent a more supportive mattress and offer people an alternative to mattress shopping in high-pressure showrooms.
In its firmer option, the Loom & Leaf should accommodate heavy sleepers up to 230 pounds. The softer option, what the company calls relaxed firm, will likely be too plush. However, there are probably better options out there for heavyweight sleepers, especially for those who like to sleep on their stomachs.
