Is the Tulo Lavender Mattress for You?

Who’s Going to Love the Tulo Lavender Mattress

  • Budget shoppers—For sleepers looking to save a buck, it’s worth noting that you can score a Queen-sized Tulo Lavender for about $400, which is several hundred dollars cheaper than average.
  • Back sleepers—Back sleepers sleep best on mattresses that have a balance of support and cushioning. And, with a medium-firm feel, the Tulo Lavender is a great choice for back sleepers of all sizes.
  • Combination sleeping couples—It’s rare to find a foam bed that’s bouncy enough for combination sleepers (those who toss and turn) and motion-isolating enough for light sleeping couples. So, if that sounds like you, be sure to keep the Tulo Lavender in mind.

Who Should Steer Clear of the Tulo Lavender Mattress

  • Heavier stomach sleepers—Stomach sleepers need the most firmness and support under their hips to keep the back aligned. However, the Tulo Lavender doesn’t offer much hip support for stomach sleepers over 130 lbs. For a more supportive foam bed, take a look at the Nolah mattress.
  • Sleepers needing pressure relief—Side sleepers tend to need the most pressure relief in their shoulders. Unfortunately, the Tulo Lavender lacks cushioning in this area. For a more pressure-relieving foam bed, check out the Nectar mattress.
  • Hot sleepers—Like a lot of foam mattresses, the Tulo Lavender doesn’t have the best ventilation or temperature control, which can be a red flag for hot sleepers. For a cooler foam bed, check out the Nectar Premier Copper.

Tulo Lavender Mattress Firmness and Feel

Tulo Lavender Mattress Firmness

Here at Mattress Nerd, we measure mattress firmness on a simple scale of 1–10,  where a “1” is softer than lavender and a “10” is maximum firmness. With this scale in mind, we found that the Tulo Lavender has a firmness level of 6/10. In other words, this mattress has a medium-firm feel which is ideal for the average sleeper, but may be a bit too soft for heavier sleepers.

What Does the Tulo Lavender Mattress Feel Like?

If you’re a fan of the classic, “sinking” feel of memory foam, then the Tulo Lavender is right up your alley. This mattress is doughy and cushioning, and its top layer gradually hugs around your body as you sleep. However, one major plus of this mattress is that, unlike your typical memory foam bed, it’s super easy to move around on.

What Sleeping Position Is Tulo Lavender Mattress Best For?

Body Type:Back SleepersStomach SleepersSide Sleepers
Lightweight< 130 lbs:543
Average-weight130–230 lbs:533
Heavyweight> 230 lbs:523

1 = Very poor     2 = Not good     3 = Fair     4 = Good     5 = Excellent

Back Sleepers

The best mattresses for back sleepers tend to have a middle-of-the-road feel, meaning that they’re both firm and cushioning in the right places. Fortunately for back sleepers, the Tulo Lavender’s balanced, medium-firm feel is a great fit for lightweight, average-weight, and heavyweight sleepers.

Side Sleepers

Side sleepers tend to need the most softness and pressure relief out of any kind of sleeper. This is because side sleepers have key pressure points on their shoulders and hips. That said, despite being a cushioning foam bed, the Tulo Lavender lacks pressure relief in the shoulders. So, whether you’re a lightweight, average-weight, or heavyweight sleeper, this bed isn’t one of the best mattresses for side sleepers.

Stomach Sleepers

The best mattresses for stomach sleepers are firm more than anything else. However, the Tulo Lavender isn’t super solid, even for an all-foam mattress. So, while lightweight stomach sleepers can get decent support on this bed, average-weight and heavyweight stomach sleepers will find themselves needing a more firm mattress.

Combination Sleepers

Like many of the best mattresses for combination sleepers, the Tulo Lavender has above-average responsiveness. For lightweight and average-weight combination sleepers, this means easy movement between sleeping positions. However, heavyweight combination sleepers may want to opt for a more solid bed.

Tulo Lavender Mattress Performance

Is the Tulo Lavender Mattress Cooling?

The Tulo Lavender just doesn’t make the cut for the best cooling mattresses. While it doesn’t have terrible temperature control, this bed is essentially just two layers of foam that absorb more body heat than most hot sleepers will be comfortable with.

Edge Support

The best mattresses for seniors, sleepers with mobility concerns, or sleepers who just like lying near the edge of their mattresses all have strong edge support. This is key for preventing warping and sagging at the perimeter of the bed. However, the Tulo Lavender’s softer, sinking feel doesn’t offer a ton of support for sleepers over 130 lbs.

Responsiveness

A responsive bed is a bed that you can move around on easily. And, with the Tulo Lavender, you can get all the benefits of a responsive bed—without having to compromise on the hugging softness of a classic foam mattress.

Motion Isolation: Is it good for those who share a bed?

The best mattresses for couples usually have good motion isolation. Simply put, they absorb unwanted movement (like your partner tossing and turning) that could disturb your sleep. In this case, the Tulo Lavender is a great choice for couples who want a bed that’s responsive but not overly springy.

Noise

The Tulo Lavender’s design is all-foam, meaning there’s no squeaky coils or springs that could make any noise.

Pain Relief

For back sleepers, the Tulo Lavender mattress offers good pain relief across the board, thanks to the bed’s medium-firm and cushioned feel. However, for side sleepers, this bed lacks the necessary pressure relief to make it one of the best mattresses for shoulder pain.

Sex

Overall, the Tulo Lavender is quiet and pretty responsive, despite not being the coolest bed on the market. So, we’re giving it a two out of three here.

Off-Gassing

Off-gassing is the “new car smell” that comes with unpackaging a new bed-in-a-box mattress. With that said, we wouldn’t recommend this Tulo bed to anyone who isn’t a fan of lavender.

Durability

Despite being a soft, all-foam bed, the Tulo Lavender has above-average durability, meaning you can expect to enjoy this bed without sagging for well past the average lifespan of a mattress—about seven years.

Tulo Lavender Mattress Construction: What’s it made of?

The Tulo Lavender is a 10” tall, all-foam mattress with a medium-firm feel that features a simple construction of two foam layers (a base layer and a comfort layer) infused with lavender.

Soft Knit Cover: The top layer of this Tulo mattress is a knit fabric mattress cover that’s designed to provide extra breathability and temperature control.

Lavender Infused Memory Foam—3”: Below the Tulo Lavender’s knit mattress cover is a comfort layer made of soft, pressure-relieving memory foam. Plus, this layer is where the Tulo Lavender gets its namesake since it’s infused with a lavender scent.

Foam Base—7”: The base layer of this mattress is seven inches of firm memory foam that provide a sturdy and supportive foundation. However, you can also opt for a thinner base layer for your Tulo Lavender.

How Do the Policies Measure Up?

Shipping & Unboxing

The Tulo Lavender mattress comes with free shipping right to your front door in a box; however, Tulo does not provide mattress removal for your old bed.

Warranty

Once you’ve purchased your Tulo Lavender, you’ll be entitled to a 10-year limited warranty that covers indentations deeper than 1.5” and any manufacturing defects. However, this warranty does not cover damage to the mattress resulting from accidents or misuse on the buyer’s end.

Trial Period & Returns

If you’d like to test out the Tulo Lavender before purchasing it, you’ll receive a 120-night sleep trial with your bed. During this window, you can return your bed at any time and for any reason for a full refund.

Addressing Tulo Lavender Mattress Complaints

Too Firm

Several Tulo Lavender mattress buyers have complained that the bed felt too firm or solid. While, in the Nerd Lab, we found that this bed had only a medium-firm feel, we did also find that many side sleepers would not get ideal pressure relief for their shoulders on the Lavender.

Strong Odor

Also, some sleepers have complained that the Tulo Lavender smelled too strongly of lavender. When testing this bed out, we definitely noticed a strong lavender odor, so we would not recommend this mattress for anyone who is sensitive to the smell of lavender.

Tulo Lavender Mattress FAQs

How Long Before You Can Sleep on a Tulo Mattress?

Since the Tulo Lavender is a bed-in-a-box mattress, you’ll want to wait for the bed to expand and for it to finish off-gassing as well. Since this all-foam bed has a particularly strong lavender odor, you may want to wait as long as 48 hours before sleeping on it.

Are Tulo Mattresses Hot?

It depends. While the Tulo Lavender has about average temperature control for an all-foam bed, this mattress definitely isn’t a top choice for sleepers who regularly overheat while they’re sleeping. This is because the Lavender’s all-foam design absorbs and retains body heat throughout the night.

Does the Tulo Lavender Come With a Frame?

No. If you purchase your Tulo Lavender through Mattress Firm, you’ll have to buy a frame for your bed separately. In addition to this, Mattress Firm also recommends that you compare your bed frame with the Lavender’s warranty information to make sure your mattress will be covered.

The Nerd’s Take: What’s the Bottom Line?

The Tulo Lavender is a budget-friendly, all-foam mattress that’s ideal for back sleepers and provides an excellent balance of responsiveness and motion isolation, all with a medium-firm feel. That said, this bed doesn’t have the best temperature control and isn’t a great choice for those who don’t like a strong lavender odor.
