The Brooklyn Bedding Signature mattress is an affordable hybrid mattress that’s available in soft, medium, and firm options. The Helix Midnight is also a hybrid mattress, though it comes with only one firmness level—medium-firm.
The Signature has the broadest appeal, thanks to multiple firmness options. We consider the soft version the best mattress for side sleepers in this comparison. The medium version of the Signature works for side and back sleepers, and the firm version is the best mattress for stomach sleepers in this comparison. The Helix Midnight is compatible with side sleeping and back sleeping, particularly for those with lightweight (<130 lbs) and average-weight (130–230 lbs) body types.
Comparing the Brooklyn Signature & Helix Midnight Mattresses
Key Differences
- Upgrades: The Helix Midnight can be purchased in a Luxe model, which includes a quilted pillow top cover, an extra layer of gel memory foam, and a longer warranty. The Brooklyn Bedding Signature does not have optional upgrades.
- Price: Though the Signature and Helix Midnight have great price points for high-quality hybrids, if you’re trying to squeeze the most out of your dollars, you’ll want to go with the Brooklyn Bedding Signature. It’s almost always less expensive, particularly after discounts are applied.
- Edge Support: Even though edge support is often overlooked, it’s a valuable mattress feature. We felt better supported along the edges of the Helix Midnight, meaning it’s a better option for those who want to maximize their available sleeping surface.
Key Similarities
- Construction: The Helix Midnight and Brooklyn Signature have almost identical designs with 12” profiles. They each feature around 4” of comfort foams atop 8” of pocketed coils. This gives them both a good balance of cushioning and support.
- Breathability: With 8” of coils, the Midnight and Signature both allow plenty of room for airflow, which keeps the bulk of the mattresses from retaining uncomfortable levels of heat.

Who is the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Mattress Best For…
- Value shoppers: The Signature is made with high-quality materials and has excellent performance relative to its pricing. We even consider it one of the best mattresses for the money.
- All sleeping positions: The Signature comes in three firmness levels, so you can find a firmness setting that feels good regardless of your sleeping position and body type.
- Combination sleepers: If you change positions while sleeping, the Signature is responsive enough to prevent you from feeling “stuck” in one place, which is often a complaint of memory foam mattresses. Also see our best mattresses for combination sleepers for more beds that rate high for responsiveness.
Not Best For…
- Memory foam fans: If you love memory foam, you might miss the viscous, sinking sand feel in this neutral foam bed.
- Plush mattress lovers: While the Signature is offered in a soft version, it’s closer to a true medium than soft. Those who want an especially plush mattress should consider our roundup of best soft mattresses.

Who is the Helix Midnight Mattress Best For
- Back sleepers: The best mattresses for back sleepers have enough structure to keep the spine in a neutral position and enough cushion for comfort. The foam-and-coil construction of the Helix Midnight achieves this comfort-support balance.
- Hot sleepers: The Helix Midnight has excellent temperature control, thanks to coils and a breathable cover. People who sleep very hot can upgrade to the Luxe version of the Midnight, which will include even more cooling features.
- Couples: Couples, and anyone who shares their bed, will appreciate how the memory foam top layer reduces motion transfer, despite a coil base layer.
Not Best For…
- Innerspring mattress shoppers: While the Helix Midnight has a coil base layer, the foam comfort layers prevent it from having the classic firm, bouncy feel of a traditional innerspring mattress.
- Those who want firmness options: The Midnight comes in only one firmness level, so it’s only a fit for shoppers who know they want a medium-firm mattress.

Brooklyn Bedding Signature vs. Helix Sleep Performance Differences
Firmness / Feel
As far as feel, the Helix Midnight and medium Brooklyn Signature are close. The main difference is in the top layer of foam. Since the Helix is topped with a modified memory foam, it’s more conforming, meaning it fills in the curves of your body. The Signature feels more like your standard foam cushion.
For firmness, the Midnight is a 6/10 on our firmness scale (with 10 being as firm as possible). The Signature has a range of firmness levels: the soft is about 4/10 (or medium-soft), the medium is 6/10 (or medium-firm), and the firm is 8/10. Our Brooklyn Signature mattress review is for the medium version.
Motion Isolation
Most hybrid and innerspring beds have relatively high motion transfer levels when compared to all-foam mattresses. Since the Helix Midnight and the Brooklyn Bedding Signature are hybrid beds, they’ll have some motion transfer. However, the memory foam layer on top of the Midnight does a better job of absorbing motion, so it’s a better choice for sleepers who want motion isolation.

Edge Support
With hybrid bases and high-quality foams, the Signature and Midnight both exhibit a noticeable measure of support around their perimeters. We gave the Midnight better edge support scores, which is important if you’re concerned about sinkage around the edges.
Pressure Relief
Regardless of your body type or sleeping position, certain parts of your body will come into more contact with your mattress than other parts. A mattress with ample pressure point relief can prevent morning aches.
Soft mattresses and memory foam mattresses typically have the best pressure relief, so we recommend the softest Brooklyn Bedding Signature if you struggle with chronic aches and pains, but keep in mind that you’ll need to ensure that these beds are supportive enough for your body type and most frequent sleeping position. If you’re looking for a distinctly contouring mattress feel, you’ll like the Helix Midnight.
Spine Alignment
Proper spine alignment can reduce strain on your muscles, relieve pain, and allow you to sleep better. Think of it as having good posture while you’re sleeping. The right mattress for you will promote the natural curvature of your spine in your sleeping position of choice. Weight is also a factor in what bed will promote spine alignment for you.
The Helix Midnight has a blend of cushion and support that will keep most lightweight and average-weight sleepers adequately supported. For the Brooklyn Bedding Signature, lightweight individuals should start with the soft option, average-weight sleepers may do best with the medium, and plus-size sleepers should consider the firm option.
Durability
The coils, high-density foams, and quality materials used in the Signature and the Helix Midnight should help them hold up for seven to 10 years. This is on par with the estimated lifespan of the best hybrid mattresses.
Cooling / Temperature
You can’t go wrong with either mattress if you’re concerned about temperature. The Helix Midnight has a breathable cover, and you can upgrade to the Luxe version for added cooling features if you sleep particularly hot.
The Brooklyn Bedding Signature has gel infused into the foam layer, which draws heat away from the body. In both beds, coils at the base layer will allow for ample airflow throughout the mattress. Hot sleepers can also check out our list of best cooling mattresses.

Comfort Layer | 1.5” TitanFlex Foam |
Transitional Layer | 1” VariFlex Foam |
Support Layer | 8″ Ascension Coils & 0.25″ Flex Base |
Mattress Thickness | 12” |
The cover of the Brooklyn Signature is made with cotton and quilted with 1” of polyfoam for added pressure relief. The top layer is 1.5” of Brooklyn Bedding’s proprietary TitanFlex polyfoam. It’s infused with gel for added cooling, and has a feel that’s reminiscent of both memory foam and latex—it has a latex-like bounce, but closely contours to your body like memory foam.
The transition layer is VariFlex foam (previously Energex foam), which provides a buffer between the sleeper’s body and the pocketed coil support core. The coils are 8” tall and are individually wrapped, which improves motion isolation. At the base of the bed is 0.25” of high-density polyfoam, which adds reinforcement for the layers above it.

The Helix Midnight has two top layers of foam followed by 8” of pocketed coils. For reference, pocketed coils are individual coils that are wrapped in a fabric sleeve to enable them to provide more refined support and motion isolation. The foams include a patented version of memory foam that has a medium firmness and a layer of transition foam that keeps you from feeling the coils. The whole mattress is encased in a polyester cover.

Shipping and Returns
Brooklyn Bedding:
The Brooklyn Bedding Signature is made to order in Phoenix, Arizona and shipped for free in the contiguous U.S. via FedEx Ground. Shipping to Alaska or Hawaii starts at $125 per mattress. Shipping to Canada is available via DHL and starts at $250 per mattress. As a bed-in-a-box mattress, the Signature ships rolled and compressed in a box. Mattresses typically ship five to eight business days after an order is placed.
Brooklyn Bedding offers a 120-night sleep trial for the Signature. There’s a mandatory 30-night break-in period, and the sleep trial begins when the mattress is delivered. If you decide you don’t like the bed after 30 nights, you can initiate a return for a full refund or exchange it.
If you keep it, it’s covered by a 10-year warranty. From the date of purchase, Brooklyn Bedding will repair or replace mattresses with defects. Defects include deterioration in the cell structure of the foam, splitting and cracking of the material, impressions greater than 1”, and sagging if the mattress is continuously supported by a foundation.
For more info, check out Brooklyn Bedding’s Warranty Page.
Helix:
All Helix mattresses ship free to all 50 states. If you live in Canada, there’s a $250 fee for delivery. The mattresses are rolled and compressed in a cardboard box before shipping. They typically arrive within seven business days via UPS Ground. A signature isn’t required for delivery, so there’s no need to be home when the package arrives.
Helix offers a 100-night sleep trial for all its mattresses, but it requires a 30-night break-in period. This means that you can’t return your mattress until 30 nights have passed. If you’re not satisfied with your mattress, you can request a new comfort layer at no extra cost, or return it for a full refund. The return policy states that returned mattresses will be recycled or donated to charity.
If you keep your Helix Midnight mattress, it’s covered by a 10-year warranty (the Midnight Luxe warranty is 15 years). Helix will repair or replace the mattress if a defect is detected. Covered defects include indentations greater than 1”, physical defects that cause the material to split or crack, and manufacturing flaws in the cover. Normal off-gassing is not covered.
Note: Mattresses purchased through Amazon may have a different trial period and return policy.

Our Final Take
At the end of the day, the Brooklyn Bedding Signature and Helix Midnight mattresses aren’t all that dissimilar, but they have a few key differences that will help you choose between the two.
The Helix Midnight is the obvious choice for memory foam lovers. It also has a medium-firmness that strikes a good balance between soft and firm. Couples may prefer the Midnight for it’s excellent motion isolation.
If you want to have multiple firmness options, the Brooklyn Bedding Signature is a better pick for you. The firm Signature is the only mattress in this comparison that we recommend to stomach sleepers, and the soft Signature is the best choice for side sleepers and those with joint pain. Either mattress works well for most back sleepers.
