When shopping for a mattress, it’s important to consider your body type and sleeping position. Mattresses are not a one-size-fits-all product, as different mattresses (and their materials) support all sleepers differently. If you like to shop for mattresses by your sleeping position, here’s a breakdown of how the Joybed mattresses serve side, stomach and back sleepers.
One of the most important factors side sleepers must consider in a mattress is its ability to cradle the hips and shoulders to avoid putting pressure on the joints. Due to the plush cotton and wool layers of the Joybed LXP, we recommend this model for side sleepers. Due to the firmness of the Joybed LX and LXC, those models may not contour and cradle the hips and shoulders as well as the LXP.
Sleeping on the back is by far the best sleeping position. This is because the spine rests in its natural alignment while in the position. Back sleepers fare well on firmer sleeping surfaces because the lower back is prevented from sinking too far into the bed. That’s why we recommend the Joybed LX and LXC models for back sleepers.
Firmness, in this case, medium-firm, also affects how the mattress can cradle the curvier parts of your body so that you’re not feeling pain or discomfort on those pressure points (i.e. your bum). The Joybed LX did well on these tests.
Stomach sleepers need more bounce in a mattress becayse sleeping on the stomach can put strain on the neck, chest, and lower back. Therefore, it’s important for stomach sleepers to find a mattress that keeps their lower back elevated to prevent arching, but also contours to the shoulders, chest, and pelvis which press into the mattress surface while you sleep.
We recommend the LXC for stomach sleepers because your hips won’t sink too far into the bed. Additionally, although the top comfort layer is a little firmer than say foam, it adequately contours to your tummy while simultaneously elevating the pelvis, which keeps the spine in alignment.
Stomach sleepers should sleep very happily on this mattress due to the mix of comfort and support of the LXC.

The Joybed LX is a natural fiber and pocket coil hybrid mattress that is 11 inches thick. It is made of two layers of natural materials and supported by a pocket-coil base, all inside an organic cotton cover.
The Joybed LXC hybrid is made of two separate cotton layers on top and a pocket-coil layer on the bottom. They are all encased in an organic, brushed cotton cover. Overall, the LXC measures 12 inches thick.
The Joybed LXP is the thickest and plushest mattress of the three models measuring 13 inches thick. The LXP consists of five all-natural layers and wrapped in an organic, hand-tufted cotton cover.
The beauty of the Joybed mattresses is that there is a model for every firmness preference out there.
The Joybed LX is considered to be a firm mattress, measuring a 7 out of 10 on the mattress firmness scale. It is the firmest of the three models. The firmer the mattress is, the less able it is to adapt to the curves of the body or respond and settle quickly for sleepers who need to shift at night. Remember, though, that a mattress will feel firmer or softer to people depending on their body weight.
The Joybed LXC is considered a medium mattress, roughly a 6 on the firmness scale. A “6” has the middle of the road feel most people crave, but will feel firmer to lighter folks or softer to heavier people. That’s how mattresses work; they respond differently to depending on your body weight. Keep that in mind when evaluating options. Just remember that the natural materials in the LXC don’t conform like memory foam, so side sleepers may not get the pressure relief they need in the wider areas of their body (i.e., the shoulders).
The Joybed LXP is the plushest of the models, measuring in at 5 on the mattress firmness scale. It’s soft, but not too soft. There will be no “sinking” sensation that memory foam sometimes creates.
You may try any Joybed mattress for 120 nights. If it doesn’t work for you, you will receive a full refund so long as you call to initiate a return by day 120. If you do send it back, you will receive 100% of your money back. There are no return shipping or restocking fees.
However, you should always sleep on a new mattress at least 30 days before making your decision. That’s about how long anyone needs to get used to a new sleep surface.
Joybed offers a 10-year limited warranty for the person who actually purchased the mattress. The warranty covers any defects in materials or workmanship and any body indentations that create sages of 1.5 inches or greater.
However, the fabric and decreasing firmness aren’t covered by the warranty. Additionally, any problems that arise from you using the mattress in a way that wasn’t meant for sleep isn’t covered. Keep in mind the warranty can be voided if you take off the official tags or soil or stain the mattress.
Even if you need to get your mattress repaired or replaced through the warranty, the warranty continues from the day you purchased it. Not all mattress companies continue the warranty once you’ve used it.
Joybed mattresses are delivered compressed in a box and ship for free via UPS to the lower 48 states within 3-5 days of the order being placed. Alaskans and Hawaiians should call Joybed directly for a delivery fee quote.
To set up your new mattress, take it out of the box, put it on your foundation, remove the plastic and wait for it to inflate to full size. It will puff to 90% of its full size within minutes, but it can take about a day for it to achieve 100% fullness. The Joybed mattresses are user-friendly in that you can set them up on any surface including adjustable bases, platforms or the floor.
There may be an odor upon opening, but no chemical off-gassing since there are no synthetic materials at play here. It’s the natural materials that put off a slight smell for some.
Joybed customer service people are available to help with your issues from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. EST Monday through Friday. You can also reach out anytime via email.
We live in a world that is paying more attention to how we use the earth’s resources. You will be pleased with the Joybed series of eco-friendly beds if living green is important to you. In some ways, the Joybeds are throwbacks to the days when beds were filled with straw or feathers. In other ways, they make great use of technological innovations, weaving plant fibers in different ways to create both support and comfort layers in this new-age mattress.
Joybed offers a mattress for every sleeper. It may not cradle your body like memory foam or support your curves like latex, but it offers exceptional support, breathability and durability. Not to mention it is a clean, naturally hypoallergenic bed.
Joybed has a lot to offer at a reasonable price point. Do you want an eco-friendly mattress that does most of the hard work of fancier bed using synthetic materials? If the answer is yes, then Joybed could be a great deal for you.
