The Mattress Nerd’s Take: The Easy Breather Natural Latex Pillow by Nest Bedding is filled with shredded latex foam and has a medium firmness. It works best for back sleepers and hot sleepers since the materials help it sleep cool. It’s not the best option for budget shoppers or side sleepers with bigger bodies.
Who It’s Good For
- Back sleepers
- Eco-conscious shoppers
- People with allergies
Who It’s Not Good For
- Budget shoppers
- Side sleepers with broad shoulders
- Those who prefer a plush, traditional feel
The cover of the Nest Bedding Easy Breather pillow is made of organic cotton, polyester, and a tiny bit of spandex for stretch. These are breathable materials that allow air to flow more easily. The cover also has a zipper so you can access the inner pouch that’s stuffed with fill. The inner pouch is made of 100 percent knit cotton and has a zipper along the side.
Inside the pillowcase and cotton cover, you’ll find a proprietary blend of shredded latex and polyester fiber. Latex is a naturally durable, cooling, and buoyant material; this means your head will stay elevated and you shouldn’t overheat. The polyester included in the fill helps keep the latex from moving around too much so you get an even distribution.
Mattress Nerd Pillow Scores
Searching for the best pillow is all about the little performance factors that you care about most, like cooling, adjustability, and whether or not the pillow will prevent you from developing neck pain. We assigned each of these performance categories a numerical score and then let you know if the pillow works for your sleep position.
Latex foam is a naturally cool material, so you won’t have to worry about it holding on to heat. Plus, the cover is made from breathable organic cotton, so you should stay cool and dry. See our top picks for best cooling pillows for similar options.
This latex pillow does a great overall job of keeping you supported and aligned. Back sleepers of all sizes should find their heads in neutral alignment—where the neck is in line with the rest of the spine. Stomach sleepers should remove a good amount of fill for a flat, supportive pillow. Side sleepers should be good with the pillow as is.
We knocked off a point because the pillow didn’t come as overstuffed as we’re used to, so heavier side sleepers may have an alignment problem.
The Easy Breather is an adjustable pillow, so you can change its height by adding or removing the latex fill—it’s all up to you. While there’s no perfect pillow, those with adjustable loft levels allow you to get pretty close to perfect for you. We only wish the pillow came with a bag for storing the unused fill.
Quality of Materials: 5/5
The Easy Breather Natural pillow is chalked full of high quality natural and organic materials. The cover is 100 percent organic cotton fabric, and the fill is shredded latex foam. The latex is OEKO-TEX Certified, meaning it’s free from harmful chemicals. The pillow is designed in the USA (California) and manufactured in China.
You can throw this entire pillow into the washing machine and dryer, which is a big win for a clean pillow. Most other pillows are spot clean only, or you can only wash the cover. Since the whole pillow is washable, you don’t need a pillow protector, but Nest Bedding still recommends using one.
You may need to fluff the latex foam fill every once in a while, but latex is a pretty resilient material that resists flattening.
Customer Experience: 4/5
The Nest Easy Breather pillow comes with a 30-night trial period and a two year warranty. The trial period falls a little short of the industry standard (100 nights), but the warranty exceeds it by one year. In addition, Nest Bedding has a great customer service team and a live chat feature on their website.
Total Score: 4.5/5
Side sleepers need a pillow that keeps the neck in line with the spine, which usually requires a mid to high-loft pillow. I would say the Easy Breather pillow comes stuffed to mid-loft, so the average side sleeper should find the support and alignment they’re looking for. However, heavier side sleepers or those with broad shoulders may not find this lofty enough.
I recommend these sleepers check out the best pillows for side sleepers for some higher-loft options.
Back sleepers tend to prefer a mid-loft pillow with contouring under the neck. The Easy Breather is the ideal loft for heavyweight and average-weight back sleepers, but lightweight sleepers may need to remove some fill. Either way, this is one of the best pillows for back sleepers.
The best pillows for stomach sleepers are firm and relatively flat. Anything mid to high-loft will likely throw stomach sleepers’ neck and spine out of alignment. Because the fill already comes in at mid-loft, stomach sleepers don’t have to remove as much fill as other adjustable pillows to get their desired loft.
|Score for Side Sleepers||Score for Stomach Sleepers||Score for Back Sleepers|
- Eco-Friendly: The polyester and latex combination create a natural and organic pillow for those who are more eco-conscious. Latex pillows aren’t the best substitute for feather pillows based on feel, but they are a more sustainable option for those who like the feel of shredded memory foam.
- Machine Washable: You can clean this whole pillow in the washing machine, not just the cover.
- Many Size Options: This Nest Bedding pillow comes in four size options, including Standard size, Queen size, King size, and a version made specifically for side sleepers.
- Durable: Latex takes a really long time to break down, so the Easy Breather should last longer than down pillows, down alternative pillows, and shredded memory foam pillows.
- Adjustable Loft: Zippers along the side of the pillowcase and inner pouch enable you to access the removable fill and adjust it until you get the right amount of neck support for your sleeping position.
- Not overstuffed: Most adjustable foam pillows come overstuffed to accommodate all body types. I would say this is a mid-loft pillow, so it doesn’t work as well for side sleepers who are heavier or who have broad shoulders. These folks need a supportive, high-loft pillow to avoid neck, shoulder, and back pain.
- Pricey: Natural and organic materials usually cost more to make, thus this pillow isn’t exactly a budget friendly item.
- Off-gassing: We typically only hear reports of a “new pillow” odor with memory foam filling, but a few customers complained of an odor coming from the latex foam.

Is a latex pillow breathable?
Usually latex pillows are breathable. A lot of them come with covers made from cotton or bamboo, which are both breathable materials. Solid latex pillows typically have perforated holes poked through them for airflow, and shredded foam pillows provide even more airflow than blocks of latex foam.
Are latex pillows bad for you?
No, latex pillows are not bad for you: quite the opposite, actually. Latex is one of the only bedding materials that can be 100 percent organic. This means itu2019s vegan, natural, and shouldnu2019t cause any harmful health side effects. The manufacturing process even makes it hypoallergenic to latex allergies.
Can the Easy Breather pillow be washed?
Yes, the Easy Breather pillow can be washed. Just remove the outer cover and throw it in the wash with the inner sleeve. Use the gentle cycle and cold water. Then you put it in the dryer on low heat until all of the latex fill is dry.
The Nerd’s Final Take
The Nest Easy Breather Natural Latex pillow works best for back, stomach, and combination sleepers. We recommend it only to petite or average-sized side sleepers. It has tons of breathability and natural cooling features, making it a great option for hot sleepers. The price tag may be high for budget shoppers.
