We will discuss the latest version of the Nolah Evolution mattress and delve into how it performed on all our tests.
The Evolution is Nolah’s best-selling mattress model, and it’s easy to see why. The Nolah Evolution is a premium 15-inch mattress that offers corner-to-corner comfort and support for a broad range of sleepers. The Evolution comes in three firmness levels, and we’ll discuss the Luxury Firm in this review.
My fellow sleep experts and I have tested over 200 mattresses in our Charlotte, NC, sleep studio, including the Nolah Evolution Luxury Firm. Using our research-backed review methodology, we evaluated its performance across multiple categories, such as pain relief, edge support, and cooling.
Our certified sleep science coaches and expert mattress testers were impressed by its pressure-relieving pillow-top layer, breathable construction, and 5-star motion isolation. Based on our tests, the Evolution is ideal for couples, back sleepers, and those prone to overheating.
Read on to see how it performed in all our tests.
The Nolah Evolution Hybrid mattress performed well across the board during testing. Our certified sleep science coaches found it to be a solid choice for couples, hot sleepers, and side sleepers, thanks to its supportive edges, 5-star motion isolation, pressure-relieving foam, and breathable innerspring coils.
That said, this premium model comes with a premium price tag. A queen-sized Nolah Evolution will cost you roughly $2,300 before any discounts, but for those willing to splurge, it will be worth the price of admission.
Financing options are available for this mattress.

Who’s going to love it:
Who should steer clear:
| Body Weight | BACK SLEEPERS | STOMACH SLEEPERS | SIDE SLEEPERS |
| Lightweight (< 130 lbs): | 5 | 5 | 3 |
| Average-weight (130–230 lbs): | 5 | 5 | 4 |
| Heavyweight (> 230 lbs): | 4 | 3 | 4 |

The Nolah Evolution is ideal for back sleepers across the board. The Luxury Firm version of this mattress provides a supportive, medium-firm sleep surface that elevates the hips, fills the lower lumbar region, and keeps the spine in a neutral position.
“The pillow top gave me a little bit of contouring through the lumbar area and absorbed any pressure I might have felt there,” said one tester. “My spine felt as though it was supported and held in its neutral position. There was absolutely zero sinking on this mattress; I felt like I just floated inside the doughy, pillow-top layer.”

Average-weight side sleepers and side sleepers who weigh over 230 pounds should appreciate the plush, pressure-relieving pillow-top layer of the Nolah Evolution. During testing, our in-house team praised the Nolah for its contouring in pressure-prone areas, such as the hips and shoulders. That said, sleepers who weigh 130 pounds or less or have sensitive joints may find the Nolah Evolution a bit too rigid.
“When I curled up on my side, I felt the mattress mold to my curves and absorb any potential pressure in the shoulders and hips,” said one of our product experts. “The soft pillow top cushioned my body like puffy dough, but I could also feel the firmer support beneath.”

Stomach sleepers require a supportive surface to elevate their hips and maintain proper spinal alignment. The durable innerspring coils in the Nolah Evolution provide a much-needed boost for sleepers in this category looking to relieve tension in their lower backs.
During testing, we found that the Nolah Evolution is a great fit for stomach sleepers weighing under 230 pounds. Meanwhile, stomach sleepers who weigh over 230 pounds might find that the Evolution sinks in too much around their lower bodies. We recommend that these sleepers opt for the Firm version of this mattress instead.
Combination sleepers, or people who frequently change sleeping positions at night to get comfortable, require a responsive surface to prevent them from feeling stuck in the mattress layers. Thankfully, the snappy pocketed coils in the Nolah Evolution provide ample bounce for sleepers.
“It was easy to move around and switch positions,” said one tester. “The foamy pillow top slowed down my movements a bit, but overall, the innerspring coils prevented me from feeling too trapped in the doughy cover.”
Mattress feel and firmness depend on multiple factors, including your preferred sleeping position, weight, and specific sleep needs. To gauge firmness, we enlist mattress testers of different shapes and sizes to lie on each model and rate the firmness on a scale of 1 to 10. After averaging their scores, we agreed on a 6.5 out of 10 (medium-firm) for the Nolah Evolution.
“The top of the mattress provided some gentle contouring around my lower back and relieved any pressure I might have felt there,” said one of our in-house experts. “My spine felt supported, but my hips seemed slightly raised above my shoulders. There was no sinking at all, but it didn’t feel too rigid. I would say it lands precisely at medium-firm.”

Sleepers prone to overheating typically fare better on hybrid mattresses because their innerspring coils facilitate airflow, allowing heat to escape throughout the night. Fortunately, the Nolah Evolution showed above-average temperature-regulating abilities during testing, earning a 4.3 out of 5 in the cooling category.
Our in-house testers used a thermal gun to measure the Nolah Evolution surface temperature before and after resting on it for 5 minutes. After this test, the temperature increased by less than 10 degrees, which places it among other best-in-class cooling mattresses.
Sosha Lewis, certified sleep science coach and proud Nolah Evolution owner, praised its temperature-regulation capabilities.
“One of the main reasons we bought the Nolah is because my husband is such a hot sleeper,” Sosha said. “The organic cotton feels incredibly comfortable and cool to the touch.”

A mattress with strong edges and corners allows sleepers to use the entire surface without feeling unsupported. Couples and individuals with mobility concerns who need a strong surface to bear down on can benefit from a mattress with a reinforced perimeter.
The Nolah Evolution earned a near-perfect 4.6 out of 5 in this category, thanks to its thick construction and fortified sides.
“I felt very supported lying on the edge of this bed,” one mattress tester said. “It didn’t feel like I would roll off or that I was lying on the edge. It was very comfortable overall!”

Ease of movement (or responsiveness) is an essential consideration for combination sleepers. Sleepers who constantly toss, turn, and change positions benefit from a buoyant surface that allows them to make these adjustments without putting in too much effort.
Hybrid mattresses are known for having responsive surfaces that are easy to maneuver on, and the Nolah is no different. Despite some sinkage from its plush, pillowy cover layer, our testers agreed that this mattress should be easy for even the most restless sleepers to get comfortable on and awarded it a 4 out of 5 in this category.
“I found it fairly easy to switch to every position,” said mattress tester Sosha Lewis. “However, the soft pillow top does provide some resistance. Those with limited mobility or even lower back pain may find that the resistance is more than they would like, but for the vast majority of people, I think this bed will be easy to switch positions.”

Motion isolation refers to a mattress model’s ability to trap motion to one side of the bed and prevent it from traveling across the surface. This feature is essential for couples with partners who are easily disturbed by movement.
Like many other mattresses with memory foam, the Nolah Evolution excels in this category, earning a perfect 5-star score for motion isolation.
According to mattress tester Sosha Lewis, its perfect motion isolation was the deciding factor when she and her husband purchased the Evolution.
“I bought the Nolah Evolution because I needed a bed to combat my husband’s flipping and flopping,” Sosha said. “This bed’s motion isolation is incredible, especially for a hybrid. The foam does an excellent job of absorbing the motion.”
Looking for a silent mattress that doesn’t creak when you get in and out of bed for a late-night trip to the bathroom? With the Nolah Evolution, you’re in luck. Our testers gave it a perfect 5-star score in the noise category.
“I noticed a very slight noise around the edges when pushing on them, but nothing in the center of the mattress,” said one tester.

The Nolah Evolution mattress earned a strong 4.4 out of 5 in the pain relief category, thanks to its impressive pressure-relieving foam layers. Our panel of mattress testers was especially pleased with its performance for back sleepers, but most side sleepers should also fare well on the Nolah Evolution.
“There is not too much sinkage on my back,” said one of our mattress testers. “I feel a lot of relief around my neck because of how aligned I am. I feel like I’m melting into this mattress, it’s great!”
That said, we want to note that sleepers under 130 pounds with existing shoulder and hip pain might experience pressure buildup on the Nolah Evolution.
Like many of the best mattresses for sex, the Nolah Evolution has a responsive surface and strong edge support, making it ideal for sexually active couples. Some couples may find that the pillow-top layer adds minor resistance, but the responsiveness of its innerspring coils should be enough to mitigate any disruptions.
The Nolah Evolution will likely take a full 24 hours to off-gas and expel any chemical smell. In most cases, beds-in-a-box take a full day or two to completely discard the “new mattress smell” due to the
Because the Nolah Evolution is constructed with premium materials and has near-perfect edge support, we believe that it will last 10 years or more. The reinforced perimeter should prevent it from sagging prematurely, and with proper use and rotation, sleepers will likely not need a new mattress for a long time.
Whenever a new mattress enters our lab, we cut it open and get a close look at what is inside. We cut open every mattress to verify that every layer the brand says is there is actually there.
The 15-inch Nolah Evolution hybrid mattress contains multiple layers of foam along with an innerspring coil support system. This USA-made bed also comes with a GREENGUARD Gold certification, ensuring the quality and safety of the materials.
Learn more about each layer below.

The cooling cover layer of the Nolah Evolution contains breathable organic cotton and proprietary ArcticTex fibers. These fibers help dissipate heat and wick away moisture.
The plush 2-inch Euro topper has breathable foam and high-thermal conductivity materials. These materials prevent heat from getting trapped. An additional 4-inch AirBreath border gusset facilitates further cooling and airflow.
The comfort layer uses Nolah’s AirFoam, a more breathable alternative to memory foam. The AirFoam has visible punches to provide flexibility at the shoulders and firmer support at the lower back.
The transition level consists of a 1-inch layer of memory foam that helps prevent motion transfer.
A zoned support layer with 8 inches of pocketed coils provides stability. Their firmness fluctuates depending on where the sleeper’s body needs more lift. The final layer is a 1-inch base layer of memory foam.
All Nolah mattresses ship free via FedEx from its Arizona factory. The mattress will arrive at your home in a compact box. Nolah only ships to the 48 contiguous states at this time.
Nolah’s limited lifetime warranty covers mattresses purchased new from its website or an authorized retailer by the original owner. It protects against manufacturing defects for as long as the original purchaser owns the mattress.
For the first 10 years, coverage is non-prorated, meaning Nolah will repair or replace a defective mattress at no cost. From year 11 onward, replacements are prorated, with the owner paying a percentage of the current retail price based on the amount of time they’ve had the mattress.
The warranty specifically covers visible indentations greater than 1.5 inches (not caused by improper support), physical flaws, and manufacturing defects in the mattress cover. It does not cover normal softening, comfort preferences after the 120-night trial, damage from misuse (stains, burns, etc.), or damage from improper foundations.
The 120-night trial begins the day your Nolah Evolution mattress is delivered and requires you to try it for at least 30 nights. If you choose to return it between nights 30 and 120, you’ll receive a full refund minus a $99 flat fee for pickup and transportation.
You must request a return by email, after which Nolah will arrange a third-party pickup. Nolah processes your refund after you send in the pickup receipt.

Similar to the Nolah Evolution 15, the Saatva features memory foam, coils, and a Euro top layer. During testing, we found that the Saatva was firmer than the Nolah at 7.5 out of 10 on our scale. This bed also comes in three firmness options, and we tested the Luxury Firm model. While both models provide ample pressure relief and support in the back-sleeping position, the Saatva has a slight edge for stomach sleepers, thanks to its firmness level.
Sleepers looking for a softer surface might prefer the Nectar Classic Hybrid over the Nolah, as it lands at a 6 out of 10 on our firmness scale. The Nectar also holds a slight edge over the Nolah Evolution in the cooling category. That said, we think the Nolah Evolution is a better fit for back and stomach sleepers, thanks to its supportive, medium-firm construction.
The Nolah Original 10-inch mattress is an all-foam model that is ideal for anyone seeking a high-quality budget option. A queen-sized Nolah Original is a fraction of the price of the Evolution and often goes on sale for just under $1,000. Our mattress testers praised the Nolah Original’s performance in the motion isolation, edge support, and cooling categories. However, the Evolution provided better pain relief across all sleeping positions.
