Simmons Beautyrest Mattress Reviews

Simmons Beautyrest has the retail heft to provide options for all types of sleepers. The company that had its start in 1870 sells 49 different models, including two full new lines, in 2019. Beautyrest is also known for making thick mattresses using quality materials, even at different price points. Beautyrest is also known for tweaking designs and renaming them for new rollouts. It can get confusing, the company never stops the work of trying to build a better sleep surface.

When you see the name Simmons Beautyrest, you know you are dealing with a major player in the mattress industry. The company put out its shingle in 1870.  They’re the folks who first came up with queen- and king-sized beds. They hold 85 different patents on design innovations that others seek to emulate. Their beds were even on the Titanic!

Simmons Beautyrest Overview

Simmons knows well the business of helping people get restorative and consistent sleep. You can buy these mattresses online. You can find them all over the world. Or you can find a nearby Simmons Beautyrest store and actually put your body on one of the mattresses before you buy. And that’s why Beautyrest employees can confidently say they are in the business of helping people “Be More Awake.”

The mattress giant has enough manufacturing weight to deliver multiple lines of mattresses, with multiple price points, design features, and firmness levels. Each line within the brand also offers a specific advantage to the sleeper—cooling, supportive, affordable, durable.

This 2019 Beautyrest mattress review alone will shine a light on 49 different Beautyrest offerings. New for 2019 are new models within the Beautyrest Black Collection and complete new rollouts with a more budget-friendly Beautyrest Silver line and a more versatile and durable Beautyrest Hybrid line.

Be advised. You can find Beautyrest mattresses throughout the retail and online marketplace, but models are often sold under different names depending on where you actually shop. We will also sort that out for you as we review all that is new at Beautyrest for 2019.

Buckle up. Here comes a ton of good information

Beautyrest Collections

Simmons Beautyrest offers five luxury mattress collections. Each of which contains a number of models that vary in price, firmness, and type. See our overview of each Beautyrest collection and what makes it stand out.

Beautyrest Black

Your Collection for Cooling

With the Beautyrest Black collection, Beautyrest raised the stakes on their Platinum line for 2019. This 23-model line gets its name from the four-pronged BLACKICE™ 4.0 technology it uses to keep sleepers cooler. This is the main selling point for the Black line. This line includes some of the most expensive and luxurious mattresses within the brand, but what you get is the best choice for hot sleepers that Beautyrest can make.

The Black mattresses include a distinctive and luxurious, quilted charcoal gray cover on most models and come in five different iterations to appeal to a range of needs and tastes. The 12 mattresses in the K, C, and L lines are new to Beautyrest and the Black line in 2019. The K-line is the most expensive. The C-line is a mid-range priced option. The L-line is the equivalent of the Black line base model. There are also full memory foam and hybrid versions.

Keep in mind that when you’re shopping Beautyrest in different physical locations, you could be looking at different model names, different return/repair policies, different levels of customer service and different pricing and sales depending on the store. (FYI—We feel that US-Mattress.com does a great job with those intangibles.)

Mattress Nerd’s Top Picks from the Beautyrest Black Collection

Let’s take a look at the construction of one mattress in the K, C and L classes in the Black line. This will give you a taste of what features are available.

K-Class Ultra Plush Pillowtop

One thing you notice right away with the Black line is how very thick the mattresses are. This top of the line, ultra-plush pillowtop version in the K-Line is a whopping 18 inches thick. There will create some shopping issues if you try to find sheets on the open market. Beautyrest does sell their own versions, too.

The top two layers under the thick pillow top make up the BLACKICE 4.0 Technology. “Black” to match the line name. “Ice” to indicate this is a cooling technology. And “4.0” to show that there are four features that work together to keep you cool on this hybrid mattress. The coil layer is also naturally cooling since it encourages airflow. The next layer is meant to give you “luxury pressure relief” using Technoluxe foams. It’s all about pressure relief for your hips and shoulders at this layer. There’s enough give to alleviate pressure here. A fourth section includes the pocketed coils. When each is wrapped individually, the sleeper gets a customized and durable support surface. Not hard like a rock, but adaptive and supportive at the same time.

C-Class Plush Pillowtop

This medium-range option in the C-Class has all the same technology as the K-Class, but the topmost foams come in different widths for a 16-inch profile. This mattress is 16 inches in width and still includes a nice, plush pillowtop. The cooling technology remains intact. Underneath the pressure relief layer is a touch thinner so the mattress is a very slightly firmer option than the high-end K-Class. There is also one additional foam layer that doesn’t increase the width of the mattress but does allow good pressure relief.

L-Class Extra Firm

This is the firmest option in the Black line, thanks to a thinner profile overall and two sections of firmer foam above the wrapped coil layer. The L-Class mattresses are also cheaper than the other two classes above it, but you still get the cooling technology and the best foams Beautyrest.

Beautyrest Platinum

A Collection for Cooling, Support, and Help with Back Pain

You should pay close attention to the Platinum Line of the Beautyrest Collection if you have problems with your back. These mattresses are built with added features to support the lower back and keep your spine aligned. As an added bonus these mattresses get their name from the platinum used as a cooling feature. Beautyrest bets that the combination of temperature control and support will give you the best quality of sleep—smarter and more restorative.

Beautyrest uses four layers to assure the back support in the Platinum mattresses has the right mix of support and pressure relief—Backcare 3X, Geltouch Foam and Beautyrest Gel Memory foam on top of the 1000 density pocket coil system at its base.

These mattresses are a step below the Black mattresses in terms of price, but you get a lot of intelligent design for the price.

Platinum Haven Pines Luxury Firm Pillow Top

The eight different layers make up the most expensive option in the pressure-relieving line known as the Platinum class in the Beautyrest brand. Three layers at the top comprise the cooling layer with Airfeel Foam, Aircool Foam, and the Infinicool Surface. That last layer keeps the top of the mattress cool. There is also a micro coil layer, an additional thin coil layer specifically for your back, to adapt to your body and its movements and enhance airflow. Right beneath that is a gel foam layer for more comfort and support.

Beneath that is the proprietary Beautyrest gel foam for contouring to your body curves. This layer sits on top of the individually wrapped coil layer, which is a godsend for anyone who needs the support or just prefers the feel of coils.

Platinum Spring Grove Plush Pillow Top

This is the best performing option amongst the Platinum’s offerings. It comes in at a thick 15 inches of thickness. It’s amazing that Beautyrest mattresses are so thick. You pay similar prices for these mattresses and often get 5 or more inches of layers that were designed for your comfort. Like the Black Line, the Spring Grove Luxury Firm Pillowtop has additional cooling and back support elements. The AirFeel foam is specifically made with an open cell structure that maximizes airflow to keep the entire works cool as you sleep.

Beautyrest Hybrid Collection

Highest-Rated Beautyrest Options and Combo Sleeper’s Dream

The Beautyrest Hybrid line is new for 2019 and focuses on just one thing—a better conforming mattress. It’s the first time Beautyrest has put together a hybrid-exclusive line under its banner. Beautyrest jumps into business with eight different models that combination sleepers should find quite useful.

The Hybrid line offers what Beautyrest believes to be the world’s best support system:

  • The 1000 Series Beautyrest Pocketed Coil  Technology limits motion transfer so sleepers can lie down without being disturbed and gives extra support in the lower back where the back curves most noticeably.
  • They put a ContourFit-Design into the mattress surface that lets sleepers sink more readily into the memory foams to relieve pressure more efficiently.
  • Each model also includes a cooling feature. InfiniCool, a cool-to-the-touch fabric; InfiniCool-Plus, two cool-to-the-touch layers, and InfiniCool MAX, which joins the virtues of InfiniCool-Plus with a layer of RightTemp Memory Foam that is supposed to pull heat away from the body as you sleep.
  • The coil layer is made of micro coils, smaller to better adapt to how the sleeper moves throughout the night without causing a lot of noise.

The Beautyrest Hybrid line puts all of that innovation together to offer better pressure relief for your hips and shoulders without compromising the support you need for the lower back and neck. It’s a balancing act that the Beautyrest Hybrids pull off with technology and consistent use of quality materials.

Hybrid BR800 X-10

We’ve looked at a few pricey options here with Beautyrest. It’s time to look at the other end of the spectrum. The Hybrid line features a solid budget option, as well as the lone bed-in-a-box with the BR800 X-10. You may want to turn to a mattress like this a very friendly priced hybrid option ($699+) with the medium-firm feel that manufacturers the world over are trying to replicate. The three-layer design has a comfort layer, a conforming layer and a support layer of coils. Nothing crazy fancy at 10-inches wide, but still a popular design for people who need a good mattress at a price that won’t break the bank.

Beautyrest Silver Collection

Your Go-To Durable Choice that’s Great for Heavier People and Couples

Consider Beautyrest Silver your introduction to Beautyrest. It is the baseline, the entry-level, a starter kit. They want to give you great value along with the Beautyrest name. Turn to the Silver mattresses for more economical options when you start shopping the Beautyrest brand. The brand has put their effort and resources into enhancing the durability, conforming and cooling features of the Silver line mattresses. These mattresses will serve heavier people and couples very well since they are wall-to-wall durable. When a mattress is strong from edge to edge, that’s also great for couples who need to use the entire surface of the mattress.

The 2019 models were built to be 15 percent more durable than previous versions by virtue of a pocket-coil system. Also, the “silver” in the line name refers to how they use actual silver in their DualCool or Dual Cool Plus layers to help release heat from the mattress while you sleep. Also, some models include a memory foam layer that responds to support your back and body curves in any position.

Silver BRS900-C

The layers in the Silver line mattresses are a little different than other lines because this is more of a budget option. The calling card for the BRS900-C is that it is a very durable mattress for couples and heavyset sleepers. The BRS900-C has DualCool Plus technology that will keep the mattress both cool and dry with a moisture-wicking fabric at the top of the mattress. But it’s also undercut with ridges that create separation between layers and allow air to push through and heat to escape. The second layer is ventilated memory foam—ventilated for better airflow and memory foam to conform to the curves of your body. The bottom support layer is the 900 Series of Beautyrest Pocketed Coil Technology. The coils are each wrapped individually, so they can adapt to movement and the contours of the body. Adaptable is key here. The ability to adjust to the body also allows this mattress to limit motion transfer. Couples need that type of feature so they’re not disturbed during rest.

Beautyrest Original Collection

The Luxury Line that Screams “Affordable”

This Original collection of Beautyrest mattresses is the most economical within the brand—perfect for guest rooms, dorm rooms, etc. Anywhere you need an occasional surface, you can find an Original Beautyrest mattress to match your needs. The Original collection only includes one class of mattress, but five options that vary by firmness and can come without a pillowtop.

The Original models rely on what the company touts as the “World’s Premier Sleep System” with their original Pocketed Coil Springs. The coils are wrapped separately to adapt to each body curve separately. Any coil bed will also do well to isolate motion so couples sleep more soundly and have good airflow throughout that layer. It’s a natural way to stay cooler in bed.

You’re not sacrificing everything for the sake of a good price. These models include four different types of foams, with or without cooling gel, to relieve pressure throughout your body. Also, there is a specific gel memory foam to provide good lumbar support (of the curve in the lower back in some models.) And at the very top of these mattresses, there is an antimicrobial layer that will keep you cool and dry while you sleep and keep the mattress clean and dry from day to day throughout its life cycle. The Original line of mattresses sets a standard for the rest. There’s plenty to like.

Original BR800 Plush Eurotop

In this original, baseline group of mattresses, you’ll find the lone Eurotop option. It won’t break the bank but it does give you the feel of a much more expensive mattress with a Eurotop that runs flush with the mattress edges. More importantly, the gel memory foam layer near the top of the mattress has a separate zone of foam specifically designed to support the lower back. If you’re a back or side sleeper, that is important. The design should ensure that your back is supported and cradled at the same time.

Beautyrest Buying Experience

Beautyrest Trial-Period

Beautyrest mattresses come with a 10-year warranty. If you buy from the company there is no trial period. Other retailers may offer a trial period. If that’s important to you, check with places like US-Mattress, Sears, Macy’s or Amazon to see if they offer you some time to test drive the mattress. Here at Mattress Nerd, we will always suggest you sleep on any new mattress for 30 days. That’s how long it takes for you to get used to the feel of a new mattress and to know if it really does enhance your sleep.

If you purchase from a retailer who is not Simmons Beautyrest, your terms will vary from retailer to retailer. If you purchase from a Beautyrest store, the limited warranty varies by item purchased and only covers manufacturing defects for the original buyer.

The Beautyrest warranty does not include:

  • Change in firmness preference
  • Normal wear and tear
  • Any mattress used without a strong enough foundation
  • Any mattress used on an adjustable foundation
  • Any claims made from overseas

Shipping and Delivery

The sheer breadth of buying options—online, brick-and-mortar Beautyrest locations and other mattress sellers—all over the world makes it hard to nail down when your mattress will arrive. Shipping and delivery times will vary from online retailer to an online retailer and from store to store. They may offer home delivery. Please ask the store about their shipping policies.

Some retailers may offer financing for your Beautyrest mattress. Again, many choices, many options, many sellers. Ask the people who sell you the mattress if they have a payment plan.
