The Mattress Nerd’s Take: The Beautyrest Harmony Lux Hybrid is a firm hybrid mattress with a classic, hotel bed feel. It’s great for heavier sleepers and for back and stomach sleepers because of the support it offers. It has standout edge support and temperature control, thanks to some cooling upgrades like gel foam and a cool-to-the-touch cover.
The Beautyrest Harmony Lux Hybrid is a firm mattress. When we tested the Beautyrest Harmony Lux Hybrid, we thought it had a very classic hotel-bed feel. We rated it at 7 on a scale from 1 to 10, with 1 being super soft and 10 being extremely firm.
The way you feel the firmness changes depending on your size, so for lightweight sleepers, who are under 130 pounds, it will feel a little firmer. For heavyweight sleepers, who are over 230 pounds, it will feel slightly softer. If firm mattresses aren’t your thing, check out our best soft mattresses.
Two things that don’t mix: sweat and sleep. If you’re a hot sleeper, you understand the struggle of waking up at night because you’re overheating. Fortunately, the Beautyrest Harmony Lux Hybrid is a great cooling mattress.
Being a hybrid bed, this mattress sleeps cooler because there is more room for airflow between the coils. But it’s even cooler thanks to gel memory foam and even a layer of foam with diamond particles embedded in it, which are supposed to pull heat away from your body.
We also thought the SEAQUAL fabric cover felt cool to the touch, which made the bed feel even cooler over all. If you’re interested in more options for hot sleepers, see our best cooling mattresses.
With the Beautyrest Harmony Lux Hybrid, you also have the option to add on a $300 or $500 cooling upgrade, which are versions of the bed with medium and ultra plush feels, respectively, and enhanced cooling features.
Do you feel supported in your current relationship…with your mattress? Because you should. If your current mattress just ain’t it, the Beautyrest Harmony Lux Hybrid might be able to give you the support you need to get your best sleep.
This mattress offers a lot of support, thanks to the coil design. We saw great spinal alignment in our testers on this bed and saw it conform well around the sleeper.
The edge support, which is the ability of the perimeter of the bed to bear weight, is really solid on the Beautyrest Harmony Lux Hybrid. It held up our testers nicely when they sat or lay along the edge of the bed, so they didn’t slip off.
That extra support on the edge can be a great indicator of the durability of a mattress. If you think the Beautyrest Harmony Lux Hybrid can offer you the support you need, you can also be confident that it’ll be able to provide that support for a long time.
Back sleepers are the easiest position to please—they could be happy sleeping on a plank of wood! Just kidding, but it really doesn’t take much to make a bed work for sleeping on your back. All you need for the best mattress for back sleepers is to be sure your spinal alignment is maintained and that there’s little pressure build up.
Being a firm and supportive mattress, the Beautyrest Harmony Lux Hybrid should work for lightweight, average-weight, and heavyweight back sleepers. Depending on preference, some lightweight sleepers might find it too firm and some heavyweight sleepers might find it too soft, but overall this is a mattress that’ll be comfortable for all back sleepers.
If you sleep on your stomach, you’ve probably experienced lower back pain after sleeping on the wrong kind of mattress. To prevent that pain, you need to be sure your hips are properly elevated, which keeps your lower back from bowing down and out of alignment.
A firm, supportive mattress is best for stomach sleepers, so the Beautyrest Harmony Lux Hybrid is a great pick for lightweight, average-weight, and heavyweight stomach sleepers.
Side sleepers’ greatest plague is pressure build up in sensitive pressure points like shoulders and hips. Contouring can help prevent that pain, which the Beautyrest Harmony Lux Hybrid provides. The other big factor for side sleepers is spinal alignment, which this mattress does a great job with.
All together, that makes the Beautyrest Harmony Lux Hybrid a great bed for heavyweight side sleepers and some average-weight side sleepers. Because of the firmness, lightweight side sleepers won’t sink in enough to get that contouring effect. For more options, see our best mattresses for side sleepers.
Combination sleepers can’t be tied down to just one sleeping position, and because of that, they need a responsive mattress that will allow them to change between sleeping positions with ease. The Beautyrest Harmony Lux Hybrid is bouncy and easy to move on, making it a great choice for lightweight, average-weight, and heavyweight combination sleepers.
Be sure to consider your primary positions as a combination sleeper, though. For example, if you are lightweight and switch between back and side, the Beautyrest Harmony Lux Hybrid might not be the best pick since it’s a bit firm for lightweight side sleepers. To find more options, see our best mattresses for combination sleepers.

If you sleep with a partner, it’s important to consider how a mattress will function for two. The biggest consideration here is motion isolation. Motion isolation means exactly what it says: stopping motion at the source—isolating it—so that it doesn’t spread to the other partner and wake them up.
The Beautyrest Harmony Lux Hybrid isolates motion decently well. We saw some motion transfer across the bed when we tested it, so you won’t feel like you’re experiencing a mini-earthquake every time your partner turns over or gets up in the night, but you might feel a little movement. The motion isolation is pretty good for a hybrid bed, as innerspring mattresses are generally worse at isolating motion than all-foam beds.

Back pain is no fun to deal with, so it’s important to make sure your mattress is helping prevent it, not make it worse. If you deal with back pain, it’s important to have a mattress that is supportive, maintains your spinal alignment, and relieves pressure.
The Beautyrest Harmony Lux Hybrid has really great spinal alignment and is supportive. The pressure relief is pretty good, but not the best we’ve ever seen. If you’re a lightweight side sleeper, you might need something with a little more cushioning in the comfort layers, but this should be a good bed overall to help with back pain for most sleepers.

The Beautyrest Harmony Lux Hybrid is made with memory foam and innerspring coils. The memory foam features a gel infusion, a cooling technology that prevents heat from trapping in the foam the way it does in traditional memory foam mattresses.
Layer #1: ContourFit Design Construction: The top layer of this mattress is Beautyrest’s signature ContourFit Design construction, which is a surface that adapts to your body and relieves pressure. The cover over this layer is made with SEAQUAL, a sustainable fabric made with upcycled marine plastic.
Layer #2: Beautyrest Gel Memory Foam: This layer is 1” of gel-infused memory foam. The gel prevents heat from being trapped in the foam, creating a cooler sleep environment.
Layer #3:Beautyrest Gel Memory Foam: This layer is another 1” of gel-infused memory foam.
Layer #4: Medium Comfort Foam: The third layer with 2” of foam provides extra comfort before the support layer.
Layer #5: Precision Support System: The bottom layer of the mattress is the support layer, made with dual strand T2 Pocketed Coil Technology. Pocketed coils can help to reduce the spread of motion, as compared to interlocking springs, and they also promote airflow within the mattress.

Beautyrest offers a 100-night sleep trial, which is the standard for the mattress industry. During those 100 nights, you can test the Beautyrest Harmony Lux Hybrid by actually sleeping on it. The Beautyrest Harmony Lux Hybrid is a good mattress, but that can all depend on what you need from a mattress. If you’re a heavier sleeper or if you need a firmer surface, such as if you’re a stomach or back sleeper, this firm hybrid bed could work for you.
Nope, you don’t need a boxspring with your Beautyrest Harmony Lux Hybrid. You only need a boxspring if you use a metal bed frame without a support base. Otherwise, any platform bed, slatted base, adjustable base, or other supportive base should work just fine.
No, you shouldn’t flip your Beautyrest Harmony Lux Hybrid mattress. If you flip it, the layers will be in the wrong order and you’ll be sleeping on coils instead of the comfort layers.
The Beautyrest Black is a luxury hybrid mattress with a medium-firmness. It features a cool-to-the-touch sleep surface and GelTouch Foam that is great for pressure relief and cooling. The bed also has reinforced edges, giving it rock solid edge support.
This bed from the Beautyrest Harmony Lux Carbon series is an extra firm hybrid mattress. It’s a great pick for hot sleepers and back sleepers.
The Beautyrest Harmony Lux Diamond is a hybrid mattress in Beautyrest’s Diamond Series with two options: a classic top mattress or a pillow top mattress. The mattress height is 14.75” and has a SEAQUAL cover. The mattress uses a variety of different foams in the comfort layers, including InfiniCool Lux, RightTemp Wave foam, and Micro Diamond Memory Foam. It’s a great mattress for hot sleepers, thanks to its cooling technologies.
The TEMPUR-Cloud is the first bed-in-a-box from the classic brand Tempur-Pedic. It has the classic Tempur-Pedic memory foam feel and is great for stomach and back sleepers, because it’s a dense foam bed. The TEMPUR-Cloud also has excellent motion isolation, which is great for couples. However, it does sleep pretty warm, so hot sleepers should look for something cooler.
The Serta Perfect sleeper is a classic innerspring mattress. It’s a firmer bed, but it’s individually wrapped coils contour around your body more than traditional interlocking coils, so you get additional support around your hips and shoulders. It’s not the best for side sleepers because of the firmness, but it could be a great bed for heavier sleepers because of the durability of the coils.
The Saatva Classic mattress is a luxury hybrid mattress that comes in three different firmnesses: plush soft, luxury firm, and firm. This is great for a wide variety of sleepers, because you can pick the firmness that will suit your needs best. The Saatva Classic has a lot of great features, including stellar edge support and temperature regulation. And like Beautyrest, Saatva offers complimentary white glove delivery.
The Beautyrest Harmony Lux Hybrid is a classic, hotel-like bed that offers some nice cooling upgrades. Simmons Beautyrest is a long-standing mattress company, so it’s no surprise to see such a classic-style mattress from the brand. It excels in edge support and responsiveness, as well as showing great spinal alignment.
Beautyrest offers shorter trial periods and warranties than many other brands, but this bed is also extremely durable and made with very high-quality materials. Additionally, it comes with an added perk of free white glove delivery. If you want a soft, plush mattress, this bed probably isn’t for you. But if you want something firm and supportive, the Beautyrest Harmony Lux Hybrid is a great option.
