The Mattress Nerd’s Take: The Casper Comfy mattress topper is a great option for side sleepers, memory foam lovers, and those with aches and pains who are looking to make an uncomfortable feeling bed into a dreamy one! Three inches of perforated foam keeps air flowing, so no body heat gets trapped, and all you’re left with is a doughy, impressionable surface to sink your body into.

Who is the Casper Comfy Mattress Topper Good For?

Who It’s Not Good For?

  • Those who don’t want to dramatically change the feel of their bed
  • Stomach sleepers
  • Budget shoppers

Materials and Construction: What’s It Made of?

Cover

The Casper Comfy mattress topper cover is made of a polyester blend with small amounts of recycled cotton, rayon, and spandex.

Foam

The insert of the Casper Comfy mattress topper is two types of polyurethane foams aka memory foam. The top layer is Casper’s proprietary “premium foam”, which is plush and responsive. Below it is a durable base layer of foam that’s stabilizing and supportive.

The foam has perforations, which Casper called “AirScape”, throughout in order to prevent body heat retention— which can happen with memory foam. This will help with breathability.

What does the Casper Comfy Mattress Topper Feel Like?

The Casper Comfy mattress topper is three inches thick of memory foam, which is tall and soft enough to drastically change the overall feel of your mattress. The mix of plush top foam and stabilizing bottom foam gives a nice balance of body contouring and support. If you are a side sleeper or you want to relieve back pain and stiffness, this topper would do a great job relieving pressure or cushioning the shoulders and hips.

Expect a soft, doughy, impressionable surface overall. Memory foam is also a great material for isolating motion, so if you sleep with a partner, this topper will be a great addition to your bed.

Mattress Nerd Mattress Topper Scores

At Mattress Nerd, we rate products on a scale from one to five, with five being the best. Each product gets tested across six categories, which measures quality of materials, cooling capabilities, whether or not it’ll keep your spine aligned, and more.

Temperature Control: 3/5

In terms of cooling capabilities, the Casper Comfy features an “AirScape” design, which is Casper’s fancy way of saying the memory foam has perforations, or tiny holes, that encourage air flow and prevent body heat from getting retained. When I tested this topper out for myself, I didn’t notice much heat retention. However, keep in mind that I’m not someone who gets super hot while I sleep. All that considered, memory foam does have a tendency to trap heat in general, so although it’s nice to know there’s this added feature for breathability, I don’t think it would be enough for a very hot sleeper to feel comfortable.

For more hot sleeper friendly options, check out our Best Cooling Mattress Toppers page.

Alignment: 3.5/5

Spinal alignment will be great for side sleepers and light weight back sleepers on the Casper Comfy mattress topper. However, it will be too soft for stomach sleepers and heavyweight body types, who may sink into the surface, which could throw the spine out of alignment.

Motion Isolation: 5/5

Typical of memory foam, it stifles motion very well. So if you sleep with a partner who tends to move around a lot at night, you shouldn’t get woken up by their movements while sleeping with this option.

Quality of Materials: 4/5

Overall, the Casper Comfy is made with high quality materials. The cover and foam features a blend of materials like recycled polyester and cotton, and CertiPUR-US® certified polyurethane foam. Casper claims the foam is made without “ozone-depleting chemicals and phthalates” and have been tested for low VOC emissions. This is all important when dealing with foam, because if you’re not cognizant of it’s sourcing or manufacturing, can contain chemicals. The cover is also removable and machine washable which adds to its quality and durability. A zipper allows you to remove the cover from the foam and wash it for easy maintenance, a feature that is not guaranteed on other topper models.

Care: 4.5/5

The cover of the Casper Comfy mattress topper is removable and machine washable. You cannot wash the inner foam or you risk damaging it. This is nice for regular maintenance or if you happen to spill and stain it, you can easily wash it. Not all mattress topper covers are machine washable, if they even come with one at all, so this is a nice feature.

Customer Experience: 4.5/5

When it comes to policies and customer experience, expect free shipping to the continental United States and Canada, a 30-night sleep trial, and a 5-year limited warranty— which all aligns with the typical industry standard for mattress toppers. Casper customer service is available by phone, via chat on their website, or by visiting the brand’s brick and mortar store.

Total Score: 4.1/5

Pros/Cons

Pros

  • Pain relief: The body contouring and pressure reliving foams will provide support to your lower back, hips, and shoulders, which will subside aches and pains.
  • Easy care: Not all mattress toppers can be washed, but it’s nice to see the cover of the Casper Comfy is machine washable for easy maintenance.
  • Perforated foam: This feature helps with airflow and will prevent body heat from getting retained within the foam.

Cons

  • May not be cooling enough for hot sleepers: If you are a very hot sleeper, the perforations in the foam may not be enough to keep you cool throughout the night. If you are a hot sleeper, I’d recommend looking into a topper that features either cooling gel foam, copper, or latex— which are all more likely to regulate body temperature.
  • Not best for stomach sleepers: The three inches of memory foam will be too soft for stomach sleepers. Most likely, your hips will sink into the foam and throw your spine out of alignment.
  • Pricey: This topper retails for well over $100, which isn’t in everyone’s budget. That being said, be sure to check our links for the most up to date pricing and best promotion currently running. Casper is good about running sales regularly, so don’t be shy… click the link and take a look.

Casper Mattress Topper FAQs

What are mattress toppers used for?

Typically, you’d get a mattress topper if your bed started feeling uncomfortable. This could be because it’s too firm, or your mattress is nearing the end of its lifespan and you want to use a topper as a “band-aid” to extend your use. Mattress toppers are great for softening the overall feel of your mattress, they can also provide nice pressure relief if you experience back pain. Depending on the material of your mattress topper, it can also provide additional benefits like responsiveness, cooling, or support!

Is the Casper mattress topper a pillow-top topper?

No, a pillow-top mattress topper is typically much softer because it’s stuffed with down or down alternative materials. The Casper mattress topper is made from polyurethane foams, which gives an impressionable, body contouring feel, rather than soft and plush like feathers.

Is the foam in the Casper mattress topper CertiPUR-US certified?

Yes! All Casper foams are CertiPUR-US certified, meaning they meet rigorous standards for emissions and performance.

The Nerd’s Final Take

Overall, the Casper Comfy mattress topper is a great addition to any mattress, especially if you’re a side sleeper or you’re looking for relief from back or shoulder pain. It’ll also work for couples looking to stifle motion and stay undisturbed by each other’s movements while sleeping. Because of its plush, impressionable feel, it’ll change a firm mattress to a medium-soft one, providing nice body contouring and support.

However, it’ll be too soft for stomach sleepers or heavyweight body types who are likely to sink too far into the foams to maintain proper spinal alignment— which could lead to back pain. Although the price point is a bit expensive, the Casper mattress topper is less pricey than models from competitors, which can retail for sometimes over $400.
