At Mattress Nerd, we love to run each mattress we receive through a variety of tests in our sleep lab. To learn more about how we do just that, check out our mattress reviews. In this review, we’ve taken a look at the DreamCloud Premier and the Avocado Green. Both of these hybrid mattresses are versatile, especially if you pay extra for the Avocado’s pillow topper, but you will pay luxury prices for this performance range and quality.

DreamCloud Premier vs. Avocado Green Overview

The DreamCloud Premier is a luxury hybrid mattress that will prove to be a winner for most sleepers, no matter your weight or preferred sleeping position. The Avocado Green, also a hybrid, has a long list of organic certifications and awards for using natural latex, wool, and cotton materials. Out of the box, it’s a great match for back and stomach sleepers but is a bit too firm for side sleepers. You’ll be better off spending additional money on the pillow top model.

Who Should Choose the DreamCloud Premier Mattress?

  • Back Sleepers of All Sizes: The DreamCloud Premier’s plush top and supportive coils create that balanced feel that is ideal for back sleepers, no matter your weight.
  • Side Sleepers over 130 lbs: With 5.5″ of different types of foam atop the coils, side sleepers should feel nice pressure relief in your hips and shoulders.
  • Shoppers Who Prefer Memory Foam: With thicker steel coils around the perimeter, the DreamCloud Premier gives you the edge support you need and the plush, hug-like feel that you love.

Who Should Choose the Avocado Green Mattress?

  • Hot Sleepers: The Avocado’s materials can do an excellent job of keeping you cool at night. The organic latex rubber foam and wool wick heat away even better than synthetic foams. And mattresses with coils are known for increased airflow.
  • Shoppers Who Prefer Organic: Avocado mattresses are made from organic latex, wool, and cotton and have received certifications for meeting rigorous, third-party emissions standards relating to chemical exposure and pollutants.
  • Couples: Temperature, movement, and surface area are key attributes to evaluate if you share the bed. The Avocado checks these boxes, making it a good choice if you sleep with a partner, pet, or child.

DreamCloud Premier vs. Avocado Green: Top Similarities

  • Edge Support: Both hybrid mattresses have a coil base with a reinforced perimeter for superior edge support. This is great if you need to get on and off slowly or simply like to tie your shoes on the edge of your bed.
  • Versatility for Combination Sleepers: The DreamCloud Premier scores above average for almost every size and type of sleeper and, if you purchase the pillow top cover, the Avocado likewise performs well for just about anyone. This versatility is especially helpful if you toss and turn at night.
  • 365-night Sleep Trial Period: When you enter the luxury price range, it’s nice to know that you have one year to truly decide if your mattress purchase is a good investment.

DreamCloud Premier vs. Avocado Green: Top Differences

  • Materials: While the construction is similar (foam atop coils), the materials of the DreamCloud Premier and Avocado are very different. DreamCloud uses CertiPUR-US certified foam, but the Avocado boasts certified organic latex, wool, and cotton, earning it the GREENGUARD certification, among others.
  • Price: The DreamCloud Premier comes at a premium price, whereas the Avocado starts at the mid-range price of $1400. Side sleepers and those who need more cushion will likely want to spend the extra money for the pillow top, which puts these two mattresses much closer in price.
  • Mattress Height: The 14″ DreamCloud Premier is a thicker mattress than the standard Avocado which has an 11″ profile. But if you add the extra 2″ pillow top to the Avocado, the two are similar in height.

DreamCloud Premier vs. Avocado Green: Firmness & Feel Differences

At Mattress Nerd, we assign a firmness level to the mattresses we review. On a scale of 1 to 10, a rating of 1 means the mattress is super soft. Check out our mattress firmness guide for more info.

What’s the Firmness Of the DreamCloud Premier & Avocado Green Mattresses?

Both of these mattresses are medium-firm with the DreamCloud Premier scoring 6.5/10 and the Avocado a 7/10. How this feels to you will depend on a few things. For example, the heavier you are, the further you sink into a mattress’ top comfort layers and get to the base. The lighter you are, the more you rest on top of the comfort layer.

As a result, lightweight and average-weight sleepers will experience the DreamCloud Premier as a very balanced mattress that cushions and supports a healthy spine, though lightweight side sleepers might prefer a softer mattress. If you are over 230 lbs, you’ll feel supported on your back and sides, but might want a firmer mattress to keep your hips elevated if you primarily sleep on your front.

The Avocado is robust in that its firmness accommodates back and stomach sleepers of any size. Side sleepers will need more cushion for your hips and shoulders, which you can find in a mattress topper or the pillow top version of this mattress.

What Do the DreamCloud Premier & Avocado Green Mattresses Feel Like?

Both mattresses made our list of best pillow top mattresses, best hybrid and best eco-friendly respectively. This tells you that DreamCloud Premier’s cashmere euro pillow top and Avocado Green’s organic cotton top and wool ticking contour nicely to your body. The DreamCloud Premier’s transition foam and coil layers add a little bounce, keeping you lifted on top of the mattress. The Avocado’s latex material also creates some responsiveness which makes it easy to change sleeping positions without waking.

What’s It Like to Sleep On the DreamCloud Premier & Avocado Green Mattresses?

Back and stomach sleepers are usually the easiest to please. You need support to keep your spine’s natural curve, as well as cushion to relieve slight pressure in your tailbone or hips. Both mattresses performed in a superior manner, with the DreamCloud making our list of best mattresses for stomach sleepers.

Thanks to the DreamCloud Premier’s euro pillow top and memory foam comfort layer, side sleepers weighing more than 130 lbs will enjoy time on their side. On the other hand, the Avocado is too firm for you unless you add the pillow top at an additional cost.

Average-Weight Sleepers (130–230 lbs)

If you’re in the market for a luxury mattress, the DreamCloud is likely to exceed expectations for those in this category, no matter your preferred sleeping position. It provides a noteworthy balance of cushion and stability that is worth the cost. For those interested in the organic Avocado Green, you’ll be pleased with the mattress’ performance for back and stomach sleepers, but it probably won’t provide enough cushion if you sleep on your side or toss and turn, changing sleeping positions.

Heavyweight Sleepers (> 230 lbs)

Our testers observed above-average support for heavyweight back sleepers on the DreamCloud Premier, as well as superior cushion if you prefer your side. Stomach sleepers will also find adequate support to keep your spine and neck aligned. The Avocado Green, without the pillow top, is a great match for those weighing over 230 lbs who sleep on your back or front. Be sure to add the pillow top if you roll to your side at all.

Lightweight Sleepers (< 130 lbs)

Side sleepers in this category might find the DreamCloud Premier too firm, missing out on the cradling of the top layers. But back and stomach sleepers should have no complaints with the stellar support and cushion for your heavier parts. The Avocado is a similar, satisfactory solution for lightweight back and stomach sleepers. Side sleepers—again, you’ll really want to add the pillow top.

Differences In Mattress Construction

While both the DreamCloud Premier and Avocado Green are hybrid mattresses, they’re made from different materials. Out of the box, the DreamCloud is a thicker mattress, measuring 14″ compared to the Avocado’s 11″. You can change this by upgrading to the additional 2″ firm or plush pillow top model of the Avocado for extra contour and pressure relief.

Cover

The DreamCloud Premier has a cover made from a luxurious Mongolian cashmere blend that makes the mattress surface super soft. The Avocado Green, not to be outshone, has a cotton top with needle-tufted organic wool that acts as a natural fire barrier.

Comfort Layers

A more traditional hybrid, the DreamCloud Premier’s comfort layer is several types of foam that provide that cushion and pressure relief it’s known for. Starting with a euro top of high-loft memory foam and soft foam, the comfort layer then serves up contouring memory foam for pressure relief. The Avocado Green’s comfort layer is comprised of 2″ of Dunlop latex rubber foam, which is naturally antimicrobial and cooler than synthetic memory foam.

Support Layers

DreamCloud doesn’t want you to feel the coils, just their stellar support, so the Premier has a foam transition layer atop the individually-wrapped coils. Lastly, there’s a small support foam at the base to reduce motion.

The Avocado Green mattress has a zoned steel coil layer, which means it has different types of coils for the middle third of the mattress compared to the perimeter. This provides extra support for your heavier body parts. The mattress base then has a 1″ slab of the Dunlop latex for durability and motion isolation.

DreamCloud Premier vs. Avocado Green Mattress Performance Ratings & Differences

Temperature

While the Premier model of the DreamCloud lineup doesn’t have gel-infused memory foam, the coil layer still provides better temperature control than traditional memory foam. That’s why it made our list of the best cooling mattresses in the luxury category. The moisture-wicking properties of the natural latex and wool Avocado Green mattress plus its coils below also draw excess heat away from your body.

Motion Transfer

The Avocado’s unique coil system isolates motion a bit better than the DreamCloud Premier. Its individual coil columns in five different zones help movement stay at its source—great news if you share the bed with a partner. But certainly don’t overlook the DreamCloud Premier. With its versatility, excellent support, and decent motion isolation, we even put it on our list of best mattresses for couples.

Edge Support

You shouldn’t have any complaints with the DreamCloud Premier or the Avocado when it comes to edge support. With reinforced perimeters, both mattresses felt stable to our testers when lying or sitting on the edge. This helps increase usable surface area and is a must for seniors who need to get on and off the mattress slowly.

Pressure Relief

With a soft euro pillow top, the DreamCloud Premier disperses pressure quite well in areas like your hips, shoulders, lower back, and tailbone. Side sleepers weighing more than 130 lbs will find the cushy comfort needed in these spots. Lightweight sleepers will need a softer bed in order to receive this benefit.

The Avocado Green is a firm bed that is very supportive, but not very plush. While the 2″ comfort layer is fine for back and stomach sleepers, side sleepers will almost certainly need to purchase a quality mattress topper, or upgrade to the pillow top for an extra 2″ of cushion.

Pain Relief

Back sleepers will find relief from the DreamCloud Premier’s combination of contour and support, making it among the best mattresses for hip pain. Keeping your spine’s natural “S” curve is key to relieving back pain and the DreamCloud excels at this, so it also made our list of best mattresses for back sleepers.

The Avocado Green also has a construction that maintains healthy spinal alignment, so it shouldn’t cause you to wake up with back pain in the morning.

Durability

Needle-tufting is an old technique (dating from the 17th century) where the ribbons are pulled all the way through the material in a bunch of places. The Avocado Green mattress has 32 spots where this occurs, making it more durable than the adhesives used in other brands.

Both the DreamCloud Premier and Avocado Green are high-quality mattresses that should easily last 7 to 10 years.

Shipping, Returns, & Warranties

DreamCloud Premier

Like most mattresses available online, DreamCloud ships free in the U.S., with a small fee for Alaska and Hawaii. You also get a generous 365-night sleep trial period. And with a Lifetime warranty, there’s not a lot of risk in trying this luxury mattress.

Avocado

Similar to DreamCloud, Avocado offers free shipping in the U.S. (adding a surcharge for AK and HI). It also gives customers a 365-night sleep trial period to determine satisfaction. And their Lifetime warranty isn’t pro-rated for the first 10 years, which is a nice perk.

Our Final Take

While there’s certainly no perfect mattress out there, the DreamCloud Premier gets close with superior performance in many areas, plus the versatility of support and cushion makes it a good fit for almost everyone. But if you sleep warmly or wake easily from movement, the Avocado Green better meets your needs. And the company is definitely paving the way with its eco-friendly manufacturing practices and materials. And if you add cushion, the Avocado Green matches an even broader group of sleepers.
