DreamCloud Premier Rest Mattress Firmness and Feel

DreamCloud Premier Rest Mattress Firmness

We rated this mattress at 4.5/10 on our firmness scale, with 1 being the softest and 10 being the firmest. This means the DreamCloud Premier Rest has a softer firmness level, making it ideal for side sleepers and combination sleepers. Stomach sleepers might prefer a more firm feel—find more options in our roundup of best firm mattresses.

What Does the DreamCloud Premier Rest Mattress Feel Like?

The DreamCloud Premier Rest is a hybrid mattress that delivers both softness and support. With several layers of foam and a layer of innerspring coils intended to provide support, this mattress should deliver for lightweight to average-weight side and back sleepers. Heavyweight sleepers and stomach sleepers will probably sink too deep to get quality support from the DreamCloud PremierRest.

Which Sleeping Position Is the DreamCloud Premier Mattress Rest Best For?

Body Type:BACK SLEEPERSSTOMACH SLEEPERSSIDE SLEEPERS
Lightweight (< 130 lbs): 524
Average weight (130 – 230 lbs):414
Heavyweight (> 230 lbs): 314

1 = Very poor, 2 = Not good, 3 = Fair, 4 = Good, 5 = Excellent

Back Sleepers

The DreamCloud Premier Rest can help back sleepers’ maintain spinal alignment throughout the night. This is a good mattress for lightweight and average-weight back sleepers, especially those who prefer a slightly softer feel. But heavyweight back sleepers might want a firmer mattress to ensure they will be well supported. For other mattresses options, see the best mattresses for back sleepers.

Stomach Sleepers

For lightweight, average-weight, and heavyweight stomach sleepers, the DreamCloud Premier Rest will likely be too soft and not supportive enough to keep the lower back aligned throughout the night, which can lead to back pain. See our ranking of best mattresses for stomach sleepers for more supportive options.

Side Sleepers

The DreamCloud Premier Rest is a soft mattress, making it an good choice for lightweight and average-weight side sleepers. The pillow top and memory foam are helpful for cushioning your hips and shoulders while you sleep, though we did notice some pressure buildup near those areas.

Heavyweight side sleepers or sleepers with more sensitive joints might want a more pressure-relieving mattress. Explore other mattress options in our ranking of best mattresses for side sleepers.

Combination Sleepers

The Premier is a good option for lightweight and average-weight combination sleepers who switch between sleeping on their side and sleeping on their back. It’s soft enough for side sleepers, but provides enough support to keep the spine aligned while sleeping on your back.

We found moving around on the DreamCloud Premier Rest to be very easy and comfortable, even though it is quite soft. This means your sleep will be less disrupted as you change sleeping positions during the night.

The DreamCloud Premier Rest may not be the best option for heavyweight combination sleepers, as heavier body types tend to sink deeper into the mattress. To find firmer options, see our ranking of best mattresses for combination sleepers.

DreamCloud Premier Rest Mattress Performance

Is The DreamCloud Premier Rest Mattress Cooling?

The DreamCloud Premier Rest’s gel memory foam and layer of individually wrapped coils are designed to circulate airflow within this hybrid mattress and keep you cool and comfortable as you sleep.

However some body heat is still trapped by the thick foam layer above the coils, reducing the cooling effect. So, we rated the mattress’s temperature control at 3/5. The coils do help with airflow, but not as effectively as other mattresses. If you sleep hot, you might want to consider a more cooling mattress.

Edge Support

One of the great pros for seniors and those with mobility issues is the edge support, which can ensure that getting in and out of the bed is easy to do. The Premier Rest offers average edge support—we felt stable along the edges, but sunk down a few inches into the soft foams.

Responsiveness

Responsiveness, also known as “ease of movement,” is how well a mattress moves with you or allows you to change positions at night. The coils inside the DreamCloud Premier Rest Mattress really add extra bounce to the mattress, which helps propel you into the next sleeping position.

Motion Isolation: Is it good for those who share a bed?

The DreamCloud Premier Rest is a great option to bring cloud-like luxury to your sleeping experience. One of the benefits of a plush mattress is excellent motion isolation. The Premier Rest has soft, absorbent memory foam layers, which help you get interruption-free sleep—even if your partner tosses and turns.

Noise

Though there are responsive coils in this mattress, they are virtually silent, thanks to the abundance of foam layers above them.

Pain Relief

If your joints have become more sensitive due to exercise, a pre-existing condition, or just age, the DreamCloud Premier Rest may not work well for you. The mattress didn’t offer the best pressure relief in our tests, so it could lead to frustration with joint pain.

For better options, shop mattresses that are designed to address back pain and shoulder pain.

Sex

The ease of movement on this mattress makes it a great mattress for sex. You shouldn’t feel stuck with any physical activity on this bed, though you may notice a little heat retention under the sheets.

Off-Gassing

Off-gassing is the chemical-like smell you may notice after unboxing a mattress. The smell comes from packaged foam, but it isn’t harmful and should dissipate after airing out the mattress. The DreamCloud Premier Rest had a noticeable off-gassing smell, so I definitely suggest letting this bed air out in a ventilated room for a few hours or days.

Durability

The DreamCloud has a foundation of steel coils, which will help it to maintain its shape and integrity over time. You may notice permanent body impressions in the memory foam top layers over time, but these shouldn’t interfere with your quality of sleep.

If you do encounter any issues with your DreamCloud Premier Rest, the Lifetime warranty may entitle you to free repairs or a replacement mattress.

DreamCloud Premier Rest Mattress Construction: What’s It Made Of?

The DreamCloud Premier Rest is a hybrid mattress with an impressive 16″ height. It’s made of comfort foams and coils wrapped in a Cashmere cover. DreamCloud uses CertiPUR-US certified foams that meet health and environmental standards for content, emissions, and durability.

Layer #1—Cashmere-Blend Cover: This plush, cashmere-cover adds an extra element of luxury to the mattress. It’s really soft to the touch, though you’ll still want to use sheets.

Layer #2—Pillow Top: Underneath the cashmere cover is 1” of memory foam and 1″ of soft polyfoam that give the mattress a fluffy, cloud-like feel when you first lie down.

Layer #3—Foam Comfort Layer: Another 2.5″ of soft foam offers contouring around pressure points, which is helpful for side sleepers.

Layer #4—Foam Support Layer: 2″ of firmer support foam add resistance and provide a buffer from the support coil layer below.

Layer #5—Targeted-Support Coil Layer: This layer is made up of 8.5″ of pocketed coils, which add extra support, bounce, and airflow through the mattress.

Layer #6—Foam Base Layer: This bottom layer is 1” of supportive foam that ensures the mattress stays stable.

How Do the Policies Measure Up?

Shipping & Unboxing

The DreamCloud Premier Rest is delivered compressed and rolled into a box. The mattress ships in seven to 14 business days and takes another two to five business days for delivery. Shipping is free in the U.S., except for Hawaii and Alaska. DreamCloud offers white glove delivery for $149. The service includes set up of your new mattress and old mattress removal.

Unboxing the DreamCloud Premier Rest was pretty easy for our team—the mattress basically unboxed itself—though it’s heavy (110 lbs for a Queen size). The whole process took about a minute for two people. There was an off-gassing odor, but it was gone after a couple of hours.

Warranty

The DreamCloud Premier Rest comes with a Lifetime warranty that covers repairs or a replacement mattress, but only if the mattress is defective, not damaged after being used. The warranty applies for the duration of the original purchaser’s ownership.

Trial Period & Returns

DreamCloud offers a 365-night trial period, starting from the day the mattress is delivered. This gives you a full year to decide if the mattress is right for you—much longer than the standard 100-night trial period many other mattress companies offer. If you decide to return the mattress, DreamCloud will send you a full refund.

Returning the DreamCloud Premier Rest is free, and DreamCloud will coordinate the removal of your mattress to be donated or properly disposed of. If you decide to return your DreamCloud Premier Rest, all you have to do is contact DreamCloud customer service to start the process.

Addressing DreamCloud Premier Rest Mattress Complaints

Not Very Firm

DreamCloud rates the Premier Rest as “luxury firm,” but we found it to be much softer than anticipated. For heavyweight sleepers, stomach sleepers, or sleepers who prefer a firm mattress, the Premier Rest is likely to be too soft. Instead, consider the original DreamCloud or DreamCloud Premier.

Weak Pressure Relief

Pressure relief was our lowest rated category for the DreamCloud Premier Rest, only 2.5/5. This means that we felt significant pressure build up in our hips and shoulders. While we think this mattress will work well for side sleepers in general, those who are heavier or who have sensitive joints might not find the comfort they need with the DreamCloud Premier Rest.

Luxury Price

As a luxury mattress, the DreamCloud Premier Rest is pricier than many other mattresses in the bed-in-a-box market. For budget shoppers, there are more affordable options available.

Comparing Different DreamCloud Mattresses

DreamCloud Premier Rest vs. Original DreamCloud

Like the DreamCloud Premier Rest, the original DreamCloud is a hybrid mattress, but it has 2″ less foam on top, giving it a firmer feel. Back and stomach sleepers should go with the original DreamCloud, while side sleepers and back sleepers who like soft mattresses should choose the Premier Rest.

The original DreamCloud is the least expensive mattress is the DreamCloud collection, so it’s better for budget shoppers. Both beds come with free shipping, free returns, a 365-night trial period, and Lifetime warranty for the original owner.

DreamCloud Premier Rest vs. DreamCloud Premier

The DreamCloud Premier is the mid-range mattress offered by the DreamCloud brand. It’s built similarly to the DreamCloud Premier Rest, but with one less foam layer and a firmer feel. Despite having a higher firmness level, the Premier offers better pressure relief than the Premier Rest, so it’s better for those with hip or shoulder pain.

The Premier is the better pick for stomach sleepers and back sleepers who prefer a more supportive feel (including those with heavier body types). You’ll pay less for the Premier, but both beds have DreamCloud’s 365-night trial period and Lifetime warranty.

Comparing DreamCloud to the Competition

DreamCloud Premier Rest vs. Helix Midnight

The Helix Midnight is a hybrid mattress like the DreamCloud Premier Rest, but it’s medium-firm (not medium-soft) and features only 3″ of foam instead of 5″.  The Midnight is even better than the Premier Rest for side sleepers, but not for back or stomach sleepers. Both mattresses have strong motion isolation and good edge support, making them great options for couples.

The Helix Midnight comes with only a 10-year warranty and a 100-night trial period, compared with DreamCloud’s Lifetime warranty and 365-night sleep trial period. However, you’ll pay considerably less for the Midnight.

DreamCloud Premier Rest vs. Saatva Classic

The Saatva Classic is an innerspring mattress with a pillow top offered in three firmness levels: Plush Soft, Luxury Firm, and Firm. These customizable options make the Saatva better than the DreamCloud Premier Rest for stomach sleepers, heavyweight sleepers, and anyone who needs the support of a firmer mattress.

We also found the Saatva to be a better choice for hot sleepers, giving it a perfect 5/5 score for temperature control. We recommend the Premier Rest to couples, since it isolates motion better between the two.

Pricewise, the Saatva is more affordable and comes with free white glove delivery, though it has only a 180-night trial period and 15-year warranty (both still longer than the industry standards).

DreamCloud Premier Rest vs. Purple

The Purple is a unique mattress, constructed of foam and a Hyper-Elastic Polymer  grid, which creates a “floating” sensation. Much like the DreamCloud Premier Rest, we think the Purple mattress is well suited for back sleepers. We rate the Purple to be firmer, at 6.5/10, but the Purple Smart Grid helps the mattress to strategically conform to your body, as well as relieve pressure.

Neither the Purple nor the DreamCloud Premier Rest are strong options for stomach sleepers and those with heavyweight body types. But, we did find the Purple to be a better choice for hot sleepers than the Premier Rest, thanks to its grid that helps air flow through the mattress to keep you cool.

Additionally, the Purple mattress comes in at a much lower price point than the DreamCloud Premier Rest, making it a better option for budget shoppers. The Purple trial period is 100-nights, and the warranty is 10-years.

DreamCloud Premier Rest Mattress FAQs

Is the DreamCloud Premier Rest worth the extra money?

What separates the DreamCloud Premier Rest from the other DreamCloud mattresses is its quilted, cashmere-covered pillow top. It is much softer than the original DreamCloud mattress, so if you are looking for a more plush mattress, the DreamCloud Premier Rest might be worth it for you.

How long does a DreamCloud Premier Rest mattress last?

DreamCloud mattresses are designed to last seven to 10 years, which is the standard for mattresses. But if your mattress is damaged through normal use during the course of your ownership, DreamCloud's Lifetime Warranty will replace or repair the mattress at no additional cost to you.

The Nerd’s Take: What’s the Bottom Line?

The DreamCloud Premier Rest is a luxury hybrid mattress that aims to be plush and cloud-like, but still supportive. It features a quilted pillow top and offers great motion isolation, responsiveness, and durability. This mattress felt softer than promised—good for lightweight to average-weight back or side sleepers.

It’s pricy, so think twice if you weigh more than 230 lbs, are prone to joint pain, easily overheat at night, or have a mattress budget under $2,000.
