WinkBed vs. DreamCloud: Top Similarities

  • Temperature: Both of these are cooling mattresses thanks to gel-infused foam layers and the breathability of the mattress covers and coil base layers.
  • Responsiveness: The DreamCloud and WinkBed are both excellent choices for combination sleepers who need a bouncy mattress to keep them from feeling stuck in the bed.
  • Motion Transfer: Neither mattress isolates motion particularly well, which is especially relevant if you’re a light sleeper who shares the bed with a restless partner. Check out the best mattresses for couples if you sleep with a partner.

WinkBed vs. DreamCloud: Top Differences

  • Comfort Layer: The WinkBed mattress is topped with a 2” foam pillow top, while the DreamCloud features 5” of combined foam layers. This enables you to sink a little deeper into the DreamCloud than the WinkBed.
  • Construction: Only the DreamCloud mattress has a memory foam layer. This layer gives it more of the contouring and slow sink typically associated with memory foam mattresses.
  • Edge support: The reinforced support coils around the perimeter of the WinkBed mattress give it noticeably more edge support than the DreamCloud.
  • Firmness: The DreamCloud is only available in a medium-firm feel, while the WinkBed is available in three firmness options: Softer, Luxury Firm, and Firmer. For this comparison, we’re focusing on the WinkBed Luxury Firm model.

WinkBed vs. DreamCloud: Firmness & Feel Differences

In this section, we’ll help you decide which mattress is a better choice for you depending on its firmness and feel.

What’s the Firmness of the WinkBed & DreamCloud Mattresses?

There’s a WinkBed for everyone—it has four different firmness options: softer, luxury-firm, firmer, and plus. Meanwhile, DreamCloud is a medium-firm mattress.

What Do the WinkBed & DreamCloud Mattresses Feel Like?

WinkBed has a Euro pillow top that makes it softer and more body-conforming. Meanwhile, when you first lie down on the DreamCloud, you feel cushioned by the soft memory foam top layers and the further you sink into the mattress, the more you notice the support of the coil layer.

What’s It Like to Sleep On the WinkBed & DreamCloud Mattresses?

The softer WinkBed is best for side sleepers, who need their shoulders and hips to sink in more to maintain their alignment and prevent pain in those pressure points. If you often overheat while you sleep, the DreamCloud mattress should help you stay cool, providing restful slumber throughout the night.

The WinkBed vs. DreamCloud Mattresses By Body Type

WinkBed Performance By Body Type & Sleeping Position:

Average-weight (130–230 lbs):554
Heavyweight (> 230 lbs): 443

DreamCloud Performance By Body Type & Sleeping Position:

Body Type:BACK SLEEPERSSTOMACH SLEEPERSSIDE SLEEPERS
Lightweight (< 130 lbs): 54
Average-weight (130–230 lbs):544
Heavyweight (> 230 lbs): 433

1 = Very poor, 2 = Not good, 3 = Fair, 4 = Good, 5 = Excellent

Average-Weight Sleepers (130–230 lbs)

Average-weight back sleepers will probably be most comfortable on the luxury-firm or firmer WinkBed while average-weight stomach sleepers will be comfy on the firmer or plus, depending on their firmness preference. Similarly, average-weight side sleepers will enjoy the softer WinkBed which provides great pressure relief.

As a medium-firm mattress with a hybrid design, the DreamCloud should work for average-weight back sleepers. Also, average-weight side sleepers should sink deep enough into the comfort layers to experience contouring around their shoulders and hips on the DreamCloud.

Heavyweight Sleepers (> 230 lbs)

Heavyweight side sleepers might need a little extra firmness to prevent sinking too deep, so the luxury-firm WinkBed is a good option. However, heavyweight side sleepers and stomach sleepers who need lots of pressure relief and hip elevation may not get the support they need from the DreamCloud mattress.

Lightweight Sleepers (< 130 lbs)

Lightweight stomach sleepers should get the pressure relief and lower back support they need on both mattresses. However, we recommend the WinkBed for lightweight back sleepers better due to its wider range of firmness options.

Differences In Mattress Construction

The construction of the WinkBed varies slightly between the models of different firmness levels, but they share the same general structure. The DreamCloud is a hybrid mattress, so it features a mix of memory foam and pocketed coils in its construction.

Cover

The exterior of the WinkBed is made of TENCEL, which is a performance fabric made from eucalyptus wood fibers. The DreamCloud’s mattress cover is soft and plush. It’s made with quilted foam and cashmere, and it looks just like a cloud!

Comfort Layers

This quilted pillow top makes the WinkBed cushioning and supportive, while the gel-infused HyperSoft foam in the pillow top is designed not to retain heat like traditional memory foam. The DreamCloud’s top layer is made with gel-infused foam, which helps to both relieve pressure and keep you cool throughout the night.

Support Layers

The WinkBed’s support layer of coils provides targeted back support that helps to keep you comfortable and correctly aligned. The support layer of the DreamCloud is made up of individually wrapped coils, and these coils not only provide support and reduce motion transfer but also allow airflow within the mattress.

WinkBed vs. DreamCloud Mattress Performance Ratings & Differences

The WinkBed 4.5/5

The WinkBed is a solid mid-range hybrid mattress. With some great features like temperature regulation, strong edge support, and responsive materials. Having a variety of firmnesses to choose from, the WinkBed will work well for a wide variety of sleepers.

The DreamCloud 4.4/5

The DreamCloud is a luxury hybrid bed that features a cashmere cover and gel-infused foam. It rates highly in motion isolation, temperature regulation, responsiveness, and every other category we rated it on.

Temperature

The DreamCloud and WinkBed both have breathable coil layers and stay nice and cool since there’s lots of room for warm air to escape through the coil layers and out of the mattress.

Motion Transfer

Typically, innerspring and hybrid mattresses don’t do a great job of isolating motion, and that’s true for both the WinkBed and DreamCloud. They’re each quite bouncy, but the 5 ” tall foam layer on top of the DreamCloud dampens motion a little better than the WinkBed’s pillow top.

Edge Support

Both of these mattresses reinforce the coils around their perimeters, but we felt more supported on the sides of the WinkBed. That means you can plan to stretch out across the whole mattress surface without worrying about rolling off the edge of the bed.

Pressure Relief

Both of these mattresses are on the firmer side, so they provide enough pressure relief for back sleepers and for lightweight stomach sleepers. If you’re looking for a softer mattress, remember that the WinkBed is offered in three different firmness options with varying levels of pressure relief.

Pain Relief

The firmer WinkBed options are great for those with back pain, especially lower back pain, since they keep your hips lifted in alignment with your shoulders. The DreamCloud could be a good mattress for back or stomach sleepers under 230 lbs who experience lower back pain. The DreamCloud is firm and supportive enough to keep these folks’ hips lifted in alignment with their shoulders, which takes the strain off of the lower back.

Durability

Hybrid mattresses with high-quality materials last between five to eight years, depending on the frequency of use. We estimate that the DreamCloud and WinkBed will both last about this long, and both come with Lifetime warranties that protect against defects for as long as the original owner retains ownership of the bed.

Shipping, Returns, & Warranties

WinkBed

WinkBeds offers free shipping to customers in the contiguous U.S., and Alaska or Hawaii for a flat rate of $199. WinkBeds gives mattress customers a 120-night in-home sleep trial. You must keep your new bed for at least 30 days to let it break in, but can return it after that for a full refund. WinkBeds’ Lifetime warranty period is more generous than most other mattress brands, but the covered defects aren’t as extensive.

DreamCloud

The DreamCloud brand offers free shipping and provides white glove delivery for an extra $149. Customers receive a 365-night trial period, plus free returns after 30 days. If you decide to return the mattress, a DreamCloud Sleep Concierge will work with you to arrange for the donation or disposal of the used mattress. The mattress is also covered by a Lifetime warranty. After year 10 of the warranty, DreamCloud may opt to repair and recover your mattress instead of replacing it.

Our Final Take

The WinkBed and DreamCloud mattress have similar constructions, but you’ll like the WinkBed if you want the firmness, buoyancy, and breathability of a traditional innerspring mattress. The DreamCloud is a better bet if you’re looking for the stability and support of an innerspring system, but with a little extra cushion up top.

They’re both great options for back sleepers and hot sleepers. If you’re a stomach sleeper, go with the Firmer version of the WinkBed. If you’re a side sleeper, the Softer WinkBed is a good bet.

All of their materials are American-sourced, and WinkBeds are designed with CertiPUR-US certified foams in all their mattresses to ensure that their products are high-quality.

Is the DreamCloud mattress worth the cost?

Yes, the DreamCloud is worth the cost, but it depends on the sleeper. You’ll need to consider your size, sleeping position, budget, desired feel, and other factors, such as if you sleep with a partner. Overall, the DreamCloud is a great mattress for couples, back sleepers, and hot sleepers.

What’s the lifespan of a DreamCloud mattress?

The DreamCloud mattress is made with both foam and coils, so while it should last you at least seven years, you may notice indentations forming in the foam layers around that time.
