WinkBeds Mattress Reviews

TOP-RATED HYBRID MATTRESSES

WinkBeds Mattress Models

WinkBeds says, “We’re in the wellness industry, not the mattress industry,” because their focus is on helping you sleep well, not just in a mattress with their logo. They handcraft their namesake mattresses (Original, Plus) from organic and sustainable materials. They remove harmful chemicals. They make sure every layer is breathable. Then they slap a Euro-pillow top on the mattress because they want you to see and feel the love in the details.

WinkBeds has introduced another version of the WinkBeds Original, a best seller in 2018, adding a durable latex layer to make the WinkBeds Plus specifically for heavier people. They applied their “sleep well, live well” philosophy to an underrepresented group in the market by making a quality, durable mattress for people who carry more weight. The WinkBeds Plus is the result.

The WinkBeds Original

  • Price Range: Starting at $1049
  • Mattress Type:  Hybrid of foam, latex, and coils
  • Best For: Side, back and stomach sleepers using the right firmness, people with back pain

The WinkBeds Plus

  • Price Range: Starting at $1249
  • Mattress Type:  Hybrid of foam, latex, and coils
  • Best For: Heavier sleepers (+300 lbs), anyone likes a firmer mattress

Which WinkBeds Mattress Is Best for Me?

The two types of WinkBed start at $1000 each before any discounts or sales. That price point is so attractive for a hybrid mattress, especially when you know it uses quality organic and eco-friendly materials and functional design to satisfy many types of sleepers.

Here’s a glimpse into which model fits which sleepers best.

The WinkBed Original mattress is a good fit for:

  • Side sleepers in the Soft or Luxury Firm
  • Back and stomach sleepers on either the Luxury Firm or Firm
  • Sleepers with back pain
  • People who sleep hot
  • People who want to make a long-term commitment to a mattress
  • People who care about the earth

The WinkBed Plus mattress is a good fit for:

  • Sleepers, regardless of preferred position, who weigh more than 300 pounds
  • People who love a firm mattress
  • People who sleep hot
  • People who want to make a long-term commitment to a mattress
  • People who are environmentally conscious

The Best WinkBeds Mattress by Sleeping Position

Let me put it this way: a 100-pound person will lie on a soft mattress and feel fine. A 250-pound person will lie on a soft mattress sink and feel pressure in all the wrong places. Flip that experience if they’re using a firm mattress. Also, your weight is distributed differently depending on your sleep position. It is so hard to make one mattress to suit everyone. Side sleepers need exceptional contouring. Back and stomach sleepers need cradling and support.  That’s why I think it makes sense to chat about how each type of sleeper might feel using these WinkBeds mattresses.

Side Sleepers

RECOMMENDED:  WinkBeds Original in Soft or Luxury Firm

Side sleepers need contouring more urgently than other types of sleepers. They’re sleeping on the curviest and heaviest parts of their bodies—the shoulders and hips. The mattress should follow the body’s curves without fully collapsing under that weight. Side sleepers also need support in between the curves. Normally a hybrid mattress in medium-firm can accomplish both jobs. WinkBeds Originals, in soft and luxury firm (code for “medium-firm”, could work depending on your weight thanks to the cushy foam at the top layers.

Back Sleepers

RECOMMENDED: WinkBeds Original in Luxury Firm or Firm

Sleeping on your back will do your body the most favors, keeping your spine in a natural position and avoiding pressure points that might make you sore come morning. Back sleepers need a bit less contouring than side sleepers but need it through the hips and booty. They need a little more support through the lumbar region so that the spine stays beautifully neutral and straight. Hybrids in medium normally do the trick because the layers closest to the body are soft and curve where they need to curve and the coils down further will support without creating pressure points. Here the luxury firm or firm WinkBeds Orignal should feel like a good choice for back sleepers.

Stomach Sleepers

RECOMMENDED: WinkBeds Original in Luxury Firm or Firm

Stomach sleepers need a mattress to give around their shoulders, chest, and hips. A medium mattress should work, right? Well, the mattress also can’t be too soft lest your hips fall too far forward. If your back arches too far, your spine will not be aligned. Stomach sleepers should focus on firmness and materials like foam and latex that will curve where it needs to and support everywhere else. You get good performance for both with hybrids. The WinkBeds have a zoned, coil layer that gives support in the hips and tummy areas, right where stomach sleepers need it. The luxury firm, for most people, and firm versions, if you carry more weight on your body, with the WinkBeds Original should work for you.

The WinkBed Mattress Construction

The WinkBed Original mattress is a 7-layer hybrid of foam and pocket coils.

  • Layer 1: The cover is a natural, moisture-wicking fabric to keep you cool and dry. The Tencel fabric is made from eucalyptus trees.
  • Layer 2: This 1-inch bit of foam relieves pressure because it bounces. You’ll feel like you can sleep on top of the mattress without sinking.
  • Layer 3: This gel foam limits motion transfer, a help for couples who move a lot during the night.
  • Layer 4: This is the first layer of coils. It’s 2.4-inches of “micro air-spring” coils that are wrapped in gel (not fabric). Coils always enhance air flow and the gel used here keep the mattress and you cooler throughout the night. Remember we fall asleep faster and sleep better in cooler temperatures.
  • Layer 5: This layer is something they call a “lumbar support pad.” It’s a dense cotton layer that supports the lower back. The top comfort layers will curve around your body and this support pad, since it’s firmer, holds you up to keep your spine straight.
  • Layer 6: This second layer of coils is a heavier, more supportive layer. They adapt to the points of your hips and shoulders to relieve pressure while still holding you up.
  • Layer 7: This 2-inch layer of high-density foam holds the entire mattress up. Without this layer, your bed would wear out too quickly. Here in this mattress it also holds up along the edges, which couples need when they use the entire mattress while sleeping together.

The WinkBed Plus Mattress Construction

The WinkBed Plus mattress is a three-barreled hybrid of foam, latex, and coils. It differs from the original thanks to a high-density latex layer right above the lumbar support pad, which replaces the micro-coils. It helps heavier users get the responsiveness and bounce they need without wearing down too fast.

  • Layer 1: The cover is a natural, moisture-wicking fabric to keep you cool and dry. The Tencel fabric is made from eucalyptus trees.
  • Layer 2: This 1-inch bit of foam relieves pressure with buoyancy, so you feel like you stay on top of the mattress without sinking.
  • Layer 3: This premium gel foam limits motion transfer. That’s a good feature for couples who move a lot during the night.
  • Layer 4: Here is the difference between the original and Plus designs—this 2.5 inch, 7-zone layer of latex. The zones react to the different parts of your body to keep your spine straight. Also, latex naturally supports more weight without losing buoyancy and responsiveness. This is a great addition for people who carry more weight on their bodies and can’t afford to get swallowed up by the foam in any model.
  • Layer 5: This is something they call a “lumbar support pad.” It’s a dense cotton layer that supports the lower back. So the top layers will curve around your body and this layer, since it’s firmer, holds you up so the spine stays straight.
  • Layer 6:  These tempered steel coils are individually wrapped into three zones. They are reinforced in 246 different spots to push back against your body where it’s heavier, relieving pressure on other parts and keeping the spine aligned.
  • Layer 7: At the base is a dense 2-inch layer of high-ILD foam that strengthens the entire unit all along the perimeter of the mattress where couples need it most.

The WinkBeds Buying Experience

WinkBeds Trial Period

WinkBeds gives you 120 days to road test their mattresses, one of the best trial periods in the mattress industry. You need at least 30 to break in the mattress, so 120 days is a generous amount of time to make an educated decision. If you don’t like it, just call the company before the 120th day. They’ll work with you to set up an exchange or free return, “No questions asked.” You’ll get a full refund of whatever you paid for the mattress itself. If you’re exchanging the mattress, you’ll pay $49 to help offset whatever state and/or local recycling fees exist. But here’s the cool part if you’re exchanging a mattress: WinkBeds will pick up the unwanted version and drop off the new one on the same day so you’re never without something to sleep on.

WinkBeds Mattress Warranty

WinkBeds offers a lifetime limited warranty on all of their mattresses for the original owner. If any of the covered issues crop up with your mattress, WinkBeds will replace the mattress in the same size for free.

The warranty covers:

  • Problems due to material defects, e.g. an inexplicably cracked layer of foam
  • Problems due to workmanship errors, e.g. seams coming undone or a zipper malfunction
  • Visible sags measuring more than 1 ½ inch

The warranty does not cover:

  • A decrease in firmness due to normal use
  • A change in comfort preference
  • Normal wear and tear
  • Any damage resulting from using the wrong foundation
  • Any damage resulting from abusing the mattress
  • Any damage resulting from commercial use of the mattress (like a vacation rental)
  • Sags in the foam of less than 1 inch

However, WinkBeds also gives you a one-time-only, 50-percent off replacement guarantee “for any reason.” This means that if you ever just want a new WinkBeds mattress down the line, something firmer or softer, or you’re just ready for a new unit, you can by paying just 50 percent of whatever the current retail price of that size mattress is. You’ll also pay $99 for white-glove shipping and handling and $60 to haul away the older mattress. You can only do that once, but it’s a unique perk and, frankly, kind of a steal.

WinkBeds Shipping and Delivery

WinkBeds mattresses ship for free and will arrive 7-14 after you order it. It takes 3-5 days to make the bed to order, so patience is a virtue here. WinkBeds delivers to the contiguous United States only. Another thing unique to WinkBeds: their mattresses will ship in a box that is the full size of the mattress itself. It won’t be compressed like most other bed-in-a-box confections. It’s ready to go and at full size once you free it from the box.

Financing

You can get 0% to 29.9% APR financing with Bread depending on the health of your credit score. If you choose Bread financing at checkout, they’ll instantly check your credit. It’s a process they call a “soft check” and doesn’t affect your credit score at all.

Availability

The WinkBeds mattresses are only available for purchase online on the company website. However, you can look at the actual mattresses at three different showrooms—The SleePare Showroom in New York City, and the Sleep Sherpa showrooms in the Twin Cities of Minnesota, and Chicago.

Conclusion

You’re a person that craves comfort and quality. You’re a person that can afford that quality and comfort but refuse to overpay for bells and whistles. You want something that is luxurious and built to last. Those are the characteristics of a WinkBeds mattress.
