Who Should Choose the WinkBed Mattress?

  • Combination sleepers: Those who change sleeping positions throughout the night should achieve enough kick-back (responsiveness) from the spring coils to move around easily on the mattress surface.
  • Back sleepers: Laying on your back on the Winkbed will provide plenty of support without compromising on cushioning comfort.
  • Hot sleepers: Those who prefer a cool mattress will benefit from the WinkBed’s innerspring base layer that enables plenty of airflow.

Who Should Choose the Nectar Mattress?

  • Side sleepers under 230 lbs: The Nectar mattress provides enough sinkage for true pressure point relief around the hips and shoulders.
  • Lightweight and average-weight back sleepers: These particular weight groups and sleeping position should experience lots of pressure relief for their hips and enough support to prevent their spines from arching out of alignment.
  • Budget sleepers: Those on a tight budget will appreciate how Nectar keeps their pricing accessible to the average consumer; you won’t pay a fortune for a Queen size.

WinkBed vs. Nectar: Top Similarities

  • Firmness: The Nectar and WinkBed mattresses both have a medium-firm feel that balances comfort and support.
  • Temperature: Both mattresses feature gel-infused comfort foams that work to neutralize the temperature of the sleeping surface.

WinkBed vs. Nectar: Top Differences

  • Feel: The WinkBed mattress has a springy feel that’s typical of traditional innerspring mattresses, whereas the Nectar has the slow sinking feeling associated with contouring memory foam. As a result, you’ll sleep more “on” the WinkBed and more “in” the Nectar. Check out the best innerspring mattresses for similar options.
  • Construction: The WinkBed has a more breathable construction, which enables it to filter body heat out of the mattress more quickly than the Nectar.
  • Motion transfer: All-foam mattresses like the Nectar tend to have much better motion isolation than hybrid or innerspring mattresses like the WinkBed. Foam simply does a better job of neutralizing movement, whereas coils absorb motion and then release it.
  • Firmness Level Options: You can shop three different firmness options from WinkBeds, including the Softer, Luxury Firm, and Firmer versions (in this comparison we’re referencing the Luxury Firm model). The Nectar mattress is only available in a medium-firm firmness level.

WinkBed vs. Nectar: Firmness & Feel Differences

The WinkBed and Nectar mattresses both have a medium-firm, we’ll expound on that in this section.

What’s the Firmness of the WinkBed & Nectar Mattresses?

The WinkBed mattress has four different firmness options: softer, luxury-firm, firmer, and plus—there’s a WinkBed for everyone and it ultimately comes down to your preferred firmness. On the other hand, the Nectar mattress only comes in one option—a medium-firm level.

What Do the WinkBed & Nectar Mattresses Feel Like?

The WinkBed is made of coil so it has a bouncy and responsive feel, you could also expect some motion transfer while laying down with a partner. Nectar added stabilizing measures in its construction to balance the hugging feel of memory foam without feeling stuck in the mattress.

What’s It Like to Sleep On the WinkBed & Nectar Mattresses?

The luxury-firm WinkBed mattress is the most versatile and will work for the average sleeper. The Nectar is a great mattress for side sleepers because of the pressure-relieving foam under the shoulders and hips.

Heavyweight (> 230 lbs): 23

Average-Weight Sleepers (130–230 lbs)

Average-weight stomach sleepers will be comfortable on the WinkBed firmer or plus, depending on their firmness preference. Side sleepers will experience great pressure relief on the WinkBed. Similarly, the Nectar mattress will be enjoyed by average-weight side sleepers, as they should sink into contouring layers designed for optimal spinal alignment.

Stomach sleepers probably won’t get the support they need on the Nectar mattress.

Heavyweight Sleepers (> 230 lbs)

Heavyweight side sleepers on the WinkBed might need a little extra firmness to prevent sinking too deep, so the luxury firm is a good option. Heavyweight side and stomach sleepers might not find the support they will need in the Nectar.

Lightweight Sleepers (< 130 lbs)

Lightweight back sleepers will probably be most comfortable on the luxury firm or firmer WinkBed. While lightweight combination sleepers should be able to find comfort in the layers of Nectar’s memory foam.

Cover

The exterior of the WinkBed is made of TENCEL, which is a performance fabric made from eucalyptus wood fiber designed to keep you cool and dry as you sleep by absorbing moisture. The Nectar bed’s plush top cover is soft to the touch; sleepers should find the cover to be breathable for better sleep.

Comfort Layers

The WinkBed has a quilted pillow top which makes the WinkBed cushioning and supportive. While the Nectar’s top memory foam layer is infused with cooling gel that neutralizes excess body heat.

Support Layers

The WinkBed’s support layer utilizes a coil system which helps to promote airflow in the mattress, which is one of the benefits of a hybrid mattress compared to traditional memory foam mattresses. The Nectar’s support layer helps stabilize the layers above while enhancing edge support and adds durability.

WinkBed vs. Nectar Mattress Performance Ratings & Differences

The WinkBed 4.5/5

The WinkBed is a solid mid-range hybrid mattress. With some great features like temperature regulation, strong edge support, and responsive materials. Having a variety of firmnesses to choose from, the WinkBed will work well for a wide variety of sleepers.

The Nectar 3.7/5

The Nectar is a value memory foam mattress that excels at providing pressure relief and minimizing motion transfer. The medium-firm feel is ideal for cradling pressure points. Plus, it comes with a yearlong trial period and a Lifetime warranty.

Temperature

Memory foam is notorious for retaining body heat and making hot sleepers feel stifled, but Nectar works against that tendency by adding cooling gel to their two top layers. Still, our team thinks the WinkBed mattress sleeps much cooler. The breathable innerspring layer allows for hot air to cycle out of the mattress, rather than pooling beneath the sleeper.

Motion Transfer

Foam absorbs motion a lot better than coils, so predictably, the Nectar reduces motion transfer a lot better than the WinkBed. See the best mattresses for couples for mattresses that isolate motion well.

Edge Support

The reinforced coil perimeter around the WinkBed provides the best edge support of the two, but we were also impressed with how supported we felt along the sides of the Nectar.

Pressure Relief

Considering that both of these mattresses are medium-firm, you might assume that they share the same amount of pressure relief. We didn’t find that to be the case. The top layers of foam on the Nectar allow you to sink into the mattress without feeling push-back from coils, like those in the WinkBed. Accordingly, we recommend the Nectar as one of the best mattresses for side sleepers.

Pain Relief

The firmer WinkBed options are great for those with back pain, especially lower back pain since they keep your hips lifted in alignment with your shoulders. If you experience a lot of pain in your shoulders or hips, the Nectar is a good option—it offers enough pressure relief to cushion average-weight side sleepers.

Durability

Innerspring mattresses typically wear out faster than memory foam mattresses, so we think the Nectar is the more durable mattress of these two. On the other hand, memory foam doesn’t tend to wear out for seven to 10 years. Fortunately, both the WinkBed and the Nectar offer Lifetime warranties for the original owners of their mattresses.

Shipping, Returns, & Warranties

WinkBed

WinkBed offers free shipping in the U.S. After 30 days, you can request a free return and full refund or a $49 mattress exchange that includes an additional 60-night sleep trial. WinkBeds customers also receive a Lifetime warranty that protects against manufacturing defects.

Nectar

Nectar provides free shipping in the contiguous U.S. They have one of the longest trial periods we’ve seen in the online mattress industry—365 nights, or a full calendar year—plus free returns and a full refund after at least 30 days. The Nectar Lifetime warranty enables you to claim a free replacement mattress during your first 10 years of ownership and free replacements or repairs after 10 years.

Our Final Take

Overall, we feel confident recommending both mattresses to back sleepers, but the three firmness options available for the WinkBed suit a wide range of sleeping positions. Stomach sleepers should choose the Firmer version and side sleepers should opt for the Softer version. We also favor the WinkBed for combination sleepers and those who run hot at night.

The Nectar is a better choice for side sleepers who want the conforming feel of memory foam and a more balanced medium-firm feel. It’s also our choice for couples who want strong motion isolation. If pricing is a consideration for you, you’ll save with the Nectar. Remember, both mattress companies offer Lifetime warranties, free shipping, and free returns.
