Nectar vs. Loom & Leaf Mattress Comparison

These two gel memory foam mattresses, the Nectar and the Loom & Leaf, will accommodate a wide range of sleepers, but depending on your sleep position, one will be better suited than the other. Check out our mattress comparison to help you decide which is the best mattress for you.

Comparing Nectar and Loom & Leaf

The Nectar and the Loom & Leaf are two high-quality gel memory foam mattresses. While both can accommodate a variety of sleeping positions, the Loom & Leaf’s luxury memory foam construction can suit couples and back sleepers well. With two firmness levels, the Loom & Leaf allows sleepers to customize their mattress feel while enjoying the luxury memory foam.

The slightly firmer Loom & Leaf may also accommodate combination sleepers and some lighter stomach sleepers, providing a responsive surface to stay on top of the mattress. The Nectar is a great mattress option for lighter back sleepers as well, along with side sleepers and hot sleepers.

  • Part of the Saatva company, the Loom & Leaf comes at a steeper price point but includes eco-friendly materials and the option of white glove delivery.
  • The Nectar is noticeably softer to the touch despite having similar memory foam construction. The Loom & Leaf is an additional inch thicker.
  • While both are rated medium-firm, their varying feels will accommodate different sleepers better. The Loom & Leaf is better for back and stomach sleepers, and the Nectar is better for side sleepers.

  • Both mattresses incorporate gel memory foam into their construction for cooling and increased airflow. Although the Nectar does sleep warmer than the Loom & Leaf.
  • The Nectar and Loom & Leaf mattresses will have the same slow memory foam feel as sleepers sink into the layers.
  • Both the Nectar and the Loom & Leaf can relieve pressure for side sleepers by cradling the hips and shoulders.

Deciding Between Nectar and Loom & Leaf

Firmness / Feel

At Mattress Nerd, we use a firmness scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the most firm and 1 being the softest. Side sleepers like mattresses on the softer side because they support their hips and shoulders. Meanwhile, back and stomach sleepers prefer a firm option that will support their neck, shoulders, back, hips and legs.

The Nectar rates at 5.5/10, making it ideal for side or back sleepers. The Loom & Leaf comes in two firmness options, Relaxed Firm and Firm, which rate at 5/10 and 7/10 respectfully. The former option is better for side sleepers, while the latter works best for back and stomach sleepers.

Motion Isolation

Couples who share a bed often have trouble with motion transfer, which is when movement travels across the surface of the mattress. This happens when a person changes sleeping positions or gets in and out of bed. A mattress with high motion isolation can avoid this by keeping the movement from traveling. The Nectar offers superior motion isolation, which is why it’s highly recommended for couples.

Edge Support

As we get in and out of bed, the edges of the mattress can sag and deteriorate. A mattress with solid edge support will avoid this deterioration and allow the mattress to maintain its structural firmness. The Nectar is known for its high level of edge support, while the Loom & Leaf does not do as well in this department.

Pressure Relief

Nobody likes waking up with aches and pains, but many people fail to realize that these are often caused by their mattress. That is why many mattress manufacturers have built-in pressure relief features that address pressure points while you sleep. If you’re a lighter to average-weight side or back sleeper, you’ll find that the Nectar offers great pressure relief for your sensitive areas. If you’re a back or stomach sleeper, the Loom & Leaf will avoid triggering your pressure points.

Spine Alignment

Mattresses that keep your spine in its natural “S” curve nice help ensure you won’t wake up with back problems. If you’re a light to average-weight side sleeper or a back sleeper, you’ll get the most spinal alignment out of the Nectar, while average-weight back and stomach sleepers will get better alignment from the Loom & Leaf, as it has a firmer option.

Everyone wants a mattress that will retain its structure and shape for a long time, which means it has a high level of durability. Both mattresses are designed to last for a very long time, but the Nectar mattress’s Forever Warranty means that it should retain its shape for longer.

Sleeping hot is never comfortable. In order to get the best, most refreshing sleep, you’ll want to find a mattress that has integrated cooling technology to keep you refreshed at night. Both of these memory foam mattresses will keep you cooler than most because of the gel-infused top layer and the breathable covers that prevent airflow from being trapped around the sleeper. The Loom & Leaf’s firmer surface may allow heat to dissipate better, versus the softer Nectar.

Nectar vs. Loom & Leaf: We compare the construction of the Nectar (left) with the Loom & Leaf (right).

Nectar Construction

Cover Quilted memory foam cover
Comfort Layer  Gel memory foam
Transitional Layer Adaptive Hi-Core memory foam
Support Layer Stabilizing memory foam
Mattress Thickness  11″

The Nectar’s base layer consists of sturdy memory foam that stabilizes and supports the entire mattress. The next layer up is made of proprietary Adaptive Hi-Core memory foam, which delivers additional support and prevents sinkage. On top of that layer lies 3 inches of gel foam that distributes your body weight evenly and absorbs heat. Finally, the mattress is topped with a soft, airy, quilted memory foam mattress cover, providing a soft sleeping surface.

Loom & Leaf Construction

Cover Breathable organic cotton cover
Comfort Layer  Gel memory foam
Transitional Layer Visco-elastic memory foam
Support Layer High-density support foam
Mattress Thickness  11″

The bottom layer of the Loom & Leaf mattress is made of high-density foam to support the bed and help it retain its shape. Above that lies the transitional layer, consisting of a thick loft pad that provides additional support to the layers on top. Next you’ll find a layer of high-density visco-elastic foam that is naturally cool and body contouring. The foam layer above the transitional layer is made with proprietary cooling gel-infused memory foam, which promotes airflow and cooling. Finally, the mattress is topped with a breathable, organic cotton cover that further encourages cooling and comfort.

Our Final Take

The Nectar and Loom & Leaf come from reputable brands and offer temperature regulation and pressure relief for sleepers to stay supported. For couples and strict side or back sleepers, we find that both beds can support your spine and isolate motion. Stomach sleepers and combination sleepers may find support in the firmer, more balanced Loom & Leaf, and it will be more responsive to your changing positions.

The Nectar’s affordable quality makes it a great choice if you’re looking for the elements of a luxury mattress for a better price. We also find that its softer setting is better for side sleepers. Both mattresses should keep you cooler without sacrificing the feel of memory foam.
