Nectar vs Ghostbed Mattress Comparison

The GhostBed and the Nectar are two foam mattresses designed to accommodate varying sleep personalities with constructions unique to those needs. Find out if the more balanced feel of the GhostBed or the sinking memory foam feel of the Nectar is better suited for you.

Comparing Nectar & GhostBed Mattress

At the Mattress Nerd we know that not all memory foam mattresses are the same. When deciding between the Nectar and the GhostBed, it’s important to consider your sleeping positions and desired firmness. The Ghostbed incorporates memory foam and aerated latex into its construction, providing a surface for hot sleepers to sleep cool.

The combination of these two materials creates a balanced feel, for back, stomach and most combination sleepers to stay on top of the mattress.  On the other hand, Nectar is better suited for side or back sleepers who want to sink into memory foam layers, receiving pressure relief and cooling from the gel memory foam layer.

  • The Ghostbed’s balanced memory foam and latex construction better suits stomach sleepers and back sleepers, while Nectar’s softer gel memory foam construction will provide pressure relief for side sleepers.
  • The Nectar will provide better motion isolation in its thicker memory foam layers than the Ghostbed.
  • The Ghostbed will not sink like memory foam, giving the mattresses two different feels despite similar construction.

  • Both mattresses accommodate back sleepers.
  • Both mattresses will help hot sleepers stay cooler through layers of cooling gel memory foam.
  • Both mattresses have similar polyfoam base layers and will have similar edge support when a sleeper site or lays down on the edges.

Deciding Between Nectar & GhostBed

Firmness / Feel

At the Mattress Nerd, we rate mattress firmness on a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is the softest and 10 is the most firm. Side sleepers need softer mattresses for contouring around their hips and shoulders, but stomach and back sleepers typically go for the higher firmness levels.

Both back and stomach sleepers need to keep their spines and hips aligned on the mattress without sinking, to avoid back pain. The GhostBed is slightly firmer, – it’s around a 6.5/10 on our firmness scale– making it ideal for back and stomach sleepers. The Nectar is a little less firm, allowing back and side sleepers to find comfort.

Motion Isolation

Motion isolation is almost a necessity for any couple that shares a mattress. When we shift positions in our sleep or when we get in and out of bed, the motion can transfer across the surface of the mattress, potentially disturbing our partner. Motion isolation prevents this from happening, so that you and your partner can have a relaxing night’s sleep.

Both mattresses will provide a good night’s sleep for couples, but the denser memory foam layers of the Nectar will isolate motion better compared to the latex of the DreamCloud. To learn more about the differences in construction, check out our Latex vs Memory Foam article.

Edge Support

Edge support refers to the level of firmness around the perimeter of your mattress. Some mattresses are reinforced around the edges so that they do not sag after years of getting in and out of bed. We find the Nectar to have less support than the Ghostbed, which can be common in memory foam mattresses.
Because of the Ghostbed’s supportive structure, we think it would be a great option for couples who want to maximize their space on the mattress and sleep on the edges.

Pressure Relief

Certain materials and firmness levels offer varying levels of pressure relief for sleepers, depending on your sleeping position. While shopping for a mattress, you want a pressure relieving design that will prevent you from waking up with neck or back pain.

Both mattresses have their strengths when it comes to pressure relief, but ultimately, it’s dependent on your sleeping position. The Nectar is better for side or back sleepers, while the GhostBed is ideal for back and stomach sleepers. The designated contouring layers will adapt to your body shape and cradle pressure points.

Spine Alignment

No matter what kind of sleeper you are, you want a mattress that will promote healthy spinal alignment. Otherwise, you can develop major back problems further down the road. Once again, we look at sleeping positions to determine which bed delivers the best spinal alignment. The Nectar will keep back and side sleepers’ spines aligned, and the GhostBed will help stomach and back sleepers with spinal alignment.

A good mattress is one that will last a long time without losing its structural integrity. Both mattresses are designed to last, with warranties ranging from several years to a lifetime.

If you’re tired of overheating at night, you’ll want to pick a mattress built with breathability and integrated cooling technology to wick away body heat and prevent heat from being trapped against your body. . Nectar and GhostBed combat the typical hot memory foam feel by integrating breathable latex in the Ghostbed and gel memory foam in both for temperature regulation.

Our Final Take: Nectar vs GhostBed

Foam mattresses are quickly evolving to continue to isolate motion for couples while improving cooling technologies to help all body types sleep cool. The GhostBed mattress is designed to accommodate back and stomach sleepers, hot sleepers and combination sleepers. If you’re a side sleeper who also tends to sleep hot or if you desire pressure relief on your hips and shoulders, we recommend the Nectar mattress. If you are a strict back sleeper and share your bed with someone else, either option may work for you.
