Tempur-Pedic vs. GhostBed Overview

Tempur-Pedic and Ghostbed are two of the most well-known mattress brands on the market. While both of these companies are recognized for creating excellent products, there are many factors that determine which type of bed is best for each individual.

Tempur-Pedic is best for…Ghostbed is best for…
Combination sleepers with heavy framesCouples
People who want hybrid options  Price-conscious shoppers looking for a latex bed
People who want white-glove delivery with lower shipping costsBack sleepers

Who Should Choose the Tempur-Pedic Mattress?

  • Combination sleepers with heavy frame: Heavyweight back sleepers and stomach sleepers will find the Tempur-Pedic both comfortable and supportive.
  • People who want hybrid options: The Tempur-Pedic mattress has different variations like the Tempur-Adapt Mattress and Tempur-ProBreezeMattress.
  • People who want white-glove delivery with lower shipping costs: Better customer service doesn’t have to break the bank with the Tempur-Pedic Mattress.

Who Should Choose the GhostBed Mattress?

  • Couples: Couples need a mattress that works for both partners, absorbs rather than transfers motion, and has good edge support. As a medium-firm, all-foam bed with sturdy edges, the GhostBed has everything we want in a mattress for couples. We even included it on our list of best mattresses for couples.
  • Price-conscious shoppers looking for a latex bed: All-natural latex mattresses cost more than your typical mattress. But by using synthetic latex foam along the top layer, the GhostBed delivers latex’s unique benefits at an affordable cost.
  • Back sleepers: The best mattresses for back sleepers gently contour without sagging, which provides a balanced feel. The GhostBed achieves this feel, thanks to medium-firm comfort layers and a firmer base layer.

Tempur-Pedic vs. GhostBed: Top Similarities

  • Great for Couples: Both the GhostBed and TEMPUR-Adapt do a good job isolating motion, helping couples sleep more soundly.
  • Not Ideal for Most Heavyweight Sleepers (> 230 lbs): The all-foam design of these beds isn’t as supportive as an innerspring or hybrid mattress. The only exception is the hybrid version of the TEMPUR-Adapt, which could adequately support heavyweight side sleepers.
  • Firmness Level: Both beds have a medium-firm feel with memory foam either on top of the mattress (TEMPUR-Adapt) or as the transition layer (GhostBed).

Tempur-Pedic vs. GhostBed: Top Differences

  • Construction: The GhostBed and TEMPUR-Adapt are both three-layer all-foam beds measuring 11”, but the GhostBed has a latex foam top layer and the Adapt is topped with memory foam. The Adapt also comes in a hybrid model.
  • Pressure Relief: The Tempur-Pedic mattress boasts superior pressure-relieving properties. This difference is thanks to the deeply contouring feel of Tempur-ES foam, compared with the surface cushioning of GhostBed’s latex foam.
  • Responsiveness: The GhostBed is more responsive, so it’s easier to switch positions and get out of bed in the morning. The TEMPUR-Adapt has the traditional memory foam cradling feel that’s not the easiest to move around on.

Tempur-Pedic vs. GhostBed Mattress Performance Ratings & Differences

The Tempur-Pedic 3.5/5

With decades of expertise making memory foam beds, it’s hard to not love TEMPUR-Pedic. The TEMPUR-Adapt is the baseline memory foam mattress model they offer and is sure to deliver a return on your investment.

The GhostBed 4.7/5

GhostBed is a medium-firm, affordable latex mattress that suits most sleepers. Featuring cooling gels and excellent responsiveness, this mattress is a great catch-all option.

Temperature

The GhostBed contains one of the coolest comfort layers around, making it nearly as cool as a typical innerspring mattress. The naturally cool latex has breathable holes that keep the surface cooler than the TEMPUR-Adapt and most other all-foam beds. If you love memory foam and also sleep hot, the TEMPUR-Adapt hybrid option is almost as good for hot sleepers as the GhostBed.

Motion Transfer

Memory foam mattresses like the TEMPUR-Adapt provide the best motion isolation—which means you’re less likely to wake up when your partner makes waves on their side of the mattress. While the GhostBed’s minimal motion transfer is good enough for most couples, you’ll probably feel some of your partner’s movements due to the bouncy feel of the latex top layer.

Edge Support

Sturdy edges matter if you and your partner like to spread out or if you sit on your mattress when getting ready. The GhostBed’s edges are more supportive than those of the TEMPUR-Adapt. The latex foam along the GhostBed’s surface is not quite as soft as the Adapt’s memory foam, and latex is a bit grippier, too. With that said, neither mattress has great edge support.

Pressure Relief

The TEMPUR-Adapt boasts the pressure-relieving memory foam that’s made Tempur-Pedic popular for decades. It’s the way that the memory foam responds to body heat by molding to your curves that make the Adapt a good fit for many side sleepers, while the GhostBed’s latex top layer is a touch too firm for these folks.

Pain Relief

Both the TEMPUR-Adapt and the GhostBed are great picks for back sleepers, but the TEMPUR-Adapt is better for side sleepers and the GhostBed for stomach sleepers. This difference is because the Adapt’s top layer has more give, while the GhostBed has a touch more lift and support.

Durability

GhostBed and Tempur-Pedic are mattress companies known for using high-quality materials. In terms of longevity, we expect the GhostBed to last a year or two longer than the TEMPUR-Adapt thanks to the resilience of the GhostBed’s latex layer. This layer is less likely to form body impressions over time than the Adapt’s soft memory foam layer.

Also, the GhostBed’s warranty is twice as long as the Adapt’s, which speaks to how long GhostBed believes its mattresses should last.

Shipping, Returns, & Warranties

Tempur-Pedic

There are several prominent differences when it comes to shipping and returns between Tempur-Pedic and Sleep Number mattresses. Tempur-Pedic beds have a $25 shipping fee, which includes white-glove delivery. You can also request an old mattress removal, which is included in the shipping fee.

Our Final Take

The TEMPUR-Adapt’s luxury memory foam design is better than the GhostBed for side sleepers, people with joint pain, and anyone who loves the hug of memory foam.
