Emma CliMax Mattress Firmness and Feel

Emma CliMax Mattress Firmness

At Mattress Nerd, we like to measure firmness on a simple scale of 1–10, where a 1 is softer than sleeping on a cloud, and a 10 is like sleeping on bricks. With that in mind, we’re giving the Emma CliMax a 6.5/10.

This falls into the medium-firm range of mattresses, making it a great fit for most sleepers. That said, some lightweight side sleepers may find this too firm, and some heavyweight stomach sleepers may need more firmness.

What Does the Emma CliMax Feel Like?

This mattress may be pretty firm, but that doesn’t mean it’s hard. Since it has a hybrid construction of foam and coils, you’ll feel cushioned and cradled, but also lifted, when you lie on it. Also, this mattress has great airflow in between its layers, keeping you cool the whole while you’re on this bed.

What Sleeping Position Is Emma CliMax Mattress Best For?

Body Type:Back SleepersStomach SleepersSide Sleepers
Lightweight< 130 lbs:553.5
Average-weight130–230 lbs:554
Heavyweight> 230 lbs:544

1 = Very poor     2 = Not good     3 = Fair     4 = Good     5 = Excellent

Back Sleepers

The best mattresses for back sleepers cushion the lower back and maintain the natural “S” curve of the spine. In this case, the Emma CliMax’s adaptive foam layers have plenty of firmness and support for lightweight, average-weight, and heavyweight back sleepers.

Side Sleepers

Side sleepers tend to need more cushioning since they’re more susceptible to unwanting pressure build-ups along the hips and shoulders. For the Emma CliMax, average-weight and heavyweight side sleepers shouldn’t have any problems, but lightweight side sleepers may find this mattress too firm to sink into.

Stomach Sleepers

For stomach sleepers, the more firmness the better. Since the Emma CliMax is pretty firm itself, lightweight and average-weight stomach sleepers should have plenty of solidness, but heavyweight stomach sleepers may want a little extra firmness.

Combination Sleepers

They’re a little harder to pin down, but the best mattresses for combination sleepers are responsive and lifting, making it easier for sleepers to move around and change their position on. And the Emma CliMax is one of the most responsive beds out there, making it a top choice for lightweight, average-weight, and heavyweight combination sleepers.

Emma CliMax Mattress Performance

Is the Emma CliMax Mattress Cooling?

The best cooling mattresses work by allowing airflow through the layers of the bed, which wicks away unwanted moisture and heat. In this instance, the Emma CliMax’s breathable hybrid design does exactly this, as air can easily move between this bed’s foam layers and supportive coils.

Edge Support

Edge support is how well your bed can hold weight around its perimeter, something that’s especially important for seniors and sleepers who like to use their whole mattress. Regardless, the CliMax offers stellar edge support, keeping the bed durable and solid.

Responsiveness

Going back to combination sleepers, the Emma CliMax is one of the most responsive hybrid beds out there. For sleepers who like to toss and turn or move around, this bed couldn’t get any better.

Motion Isolation: Is it good for those who share a bed?

Whether you share your bed with a partner or a pet, unwanted movement can wake everyone up. So, if looking to avoid this, then a bed with good motion isolation is a must-have. With the Emma CliMax, you’ll get decent motion isolation, but nothing out of the ordinary.

Noise

A creaky bed can be a serious annoyance if you’re a light sleeper or plan on sharing your mattress. Fortunately, the Emma CliMax is quiet and squeak-free.

Pain Relief

The Emma CliMax’s contouring foam layers are great for sleepers who need pressure relief; however, due to this bed’s firmness, we wouldn’t necessarily recommend it for lightweight side sleepers with hip pain.

Sex

The best mattresses for sex are quiet, responsive, and cooling. With that in mind, this mattress has everything you (and your partner) could ask for.

Off-Gassing

Off-gassing, or the “new mattress smell”, occurs when you unpackage a bed-in-a-box mattress. With the Emma CliMax, you’ll probably notice this odor for a couple days, but rest assured that’s totally safe and nontoxic.

Durability

Finally, the Emma CliMax is a bed that’s built to last. Thanks to its supportive coils and reinforced edges, you can expect to enjoy this mattress well past the average seven-year lifespan of a bed.

Emma CliMax Mattress Construction: What’s it made of?

The Emma CliMax is a durable hybrid bed that’s 11.5” inches tall. It features several layers of contouring and high-density support foam, plus pocketed coils and a breathable mattress cover—all vegan, too.

emma climax construction

Pillow Top Cover: The top layer of the Emma CliMax mattress is a moisture-wicking and breathable cover that’s easy to wash. Best of all, it regulates body temperature throughout the night as well.

Foam Comfort Layer: Below the mattress cover is a layer of cooling and motion isolating foam. This open-celled foam improves airflow and dissipates heat, while absorbing any unwanted motion on top of the bed.

Foam Transition Layer: This layer of visco-elastic memory foam breathable too, and it’s adaptive to a variety of pressure points on the body, taking pressure off of the shoulders, hips, and back.

Pocketed Coils: Below that, a layer of individually-pocketed coils improve airflow into the mattress and give it some serious bounce, helping sleepers of all weights stay lifted and supported on this hybrid bed. Also, along these pocketed coils is a section of reinforced foam, which strengthens edge support.

High-Density Foam: Finally, this mattress sits on a thick layer of high-density foam that holds sturdy over time for even the heaviest of sleepers.

How Do the Policies Measure Up?

Shipping & Unboxing

The company offers free shipping on the Emma CliMax mattress. Also, the Emma CliMax is a bed-in-a-box mattress, meaning you’ll have to let it expand before you can sleep on it. Overall, the unboxing process is relatively easy and off-gassing is minimal.

Warranty

Your Emma CliMax mattress comes with a 10-year warranty that will protect your bed against any manufacturing defects. If any are detected, the company will arrange for a replacement.

Trial Period & Returns

The Emma CliMax comes with a generous 365-night trial period, during which you can return your mattress at any time for a full refund. The only stipulation is that the company asks that you try out the bed for 21 nights before deciding it isn’t right for you.

If you do decide not to keep your Emma CliMax mattress, you can ship it back for free, and, if you’re in California, they can collect your mattress at your house for free as well.

Addressing Emma CliMax Mattress Complaints

  • Lack of Hip Support—a few buyers cited that the Emma CliMax had a lack of support for stomach sleepers, especially in the hips. We found in our own tests that the Emma CliMax offers solid hip support for most sleepers, but heavier sleepers may need a firmer bed.
  • Too Hot—some Emma CliMax buyers complained that the bed was too hot and that they were sweating excessively while sleeping on it. Although we didn’t find this bed to be the coolest on the market, it definitely offers above-average temperature regulation. That said, foam, as a material, is known for retaining and trapping heat, and the Emma CliMax does have several layers of foam in its construction.
