The Nectar Classic remains one of the most popular memory foam mattresses on the market—and after testing it firsthand, it’s easy to see why.
My fellow certified sleep science coaches and I have tested over 200 mattresses at Mattress Nerd and recently put the all-foam Nectar through its paces in our Charlotte, NC, sleep studio to see how it measures up to the competition.
What we found is a mattress that strikes a comfortable balance between pressure relief and support, making it especially well-suited for back sleepers who want gentle contouring without feeling stuck in the bed. Throw in its cooling top layer and motion-dampening memory foam, and the Nectar Classic also stands out as a solid option for hot sleepers and couples.

Nerd’s Take on the Nectar Classic Mattress
The all-foam Nectar is a medium-firm mattress that is best for back sleepers, hot sleepers, and couples. It earned above-average scores across the board, most notably in motion isolation, cooling, and responsiveness. The queen-size Nectar also frequently goes on sale for just $649.
That said, the Nectar Classic might be a touch too firm for strict side sleepers, especially those with hip or shoulder pain. Additionally, sleepers with mobility concerns who require a strong surface to bear down on in the morning will likely need something with more reinforced edges.

- Hot sleepers who prefer memory foam should enjoy the Nectar Classic’s cool-to-the-touch feel. The Nectar Classic scored a near-perfect 4.8 out of 5 during testing thanks to its impressive performance on our thermal gun test.
- Back sleepers should appreciate the supportive feel of the Nectar Classic memory foam mattress. During testing, I found that its medium-firm construction relieved tension and kept my spine aligned.
- The Nectar Classic’s motion-dampening memory foam should make it a good fit for couples or people who share their bed with a restless pet.
Who should steer clear:
- Since the Nectar is on the firmer side of things when it comes to memory foam, strict side sleepers or lightweight sleepers with sensitive joints may find that the surface of the mattress is uncomfortable around pressure-prone areas, like the hips and shoulders.
- Sleepers with mobility concerns might find that the corners and edges of the Nectar Classic are not supportive enough to bear down on in the morning.

How The Nectar Classic Scored in Our Testing
The Nectar Classic performed well across the board, scoring at least a 4 out of 5 in most categories and a 4.3 overall. The Nectar earned near-perfect scores in cooling and motion isolation, so it should provide a cool, crisp escape for hot sleepers and effectively dampen motion for sleepers sharing their space with a restless partner. It scored lowest in edge support; however, our mattress testers still found that they could lie along the perimeter without feeling unsteady or falling off.

Back Sleepers
Back sleepers typically require a medium-firm or firmer sleep surface to help them maintain a neutral spinal alignment through the night. Mattresses that promote the natural S-curve with the right balance of sinkage and lift are ideal for sleepers in this category.
The Nectar Classic is a solid option for these sleepers because it is firm enough to keep their hips aligned with the rest of their bodies and prevent them from sinking too far into its foams. During my hands-on assessment of this mattress, I found that its balance of medium-firm support and gentle contouring helped relieve pressure in my lower lumbar region.
Side Sleepers
Unlike back sleepers, side sleepers typically prefer a mattress that is on the softer side for better pressure relief in their hips and shoulders. That said, too much sinkage could cause spinal misalignment and lead to back pain. We typically recommend that side sleepers opt for a softer memory foam or hybrid model for that additional cushioning.
For these reasons, we think the memory foam Nectar should be comfortable for most side sleepers. These sleepers should sink into the foam layers of the Nectar Classic enough to get pressure relief in those key areas while still getting enough lift from its medium-firm construction to prevent discomfort. However, this mattress will feel firmer to sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds, meaning these sleepers may prefer a softer mattress to get the pressure relief they need.
Stomach Sleepers
Stomach sleepers need additional support and elevation around their hips to maintain a neutral position, as they tend to sink in more near their lower lumbar region. These sleepers typically fare better on supportive innerspring and hybrid mattress models, as the individually-wrapped coils in their constructions offer some much-needed lift for spinal alignment.
While the Nectar Classic does not fall into either of those categories, I still believe it could work for lightweight and average-weight stomach sleepers, thanks to its medium-firm feel. Stomach sleepers who prefer memory foam mattresses should get the support they need from this bed. However, stomach sleepers with bigger bodies will likely sink too far into this mattress to be comfortable.
Combination Sleepers
Combination sleepers (or sleepers who frequently change positions at night) need a responsive sleep surface that is easy to maneuver on. Mattresses with innerspring coils in their construction are usually ideal for these sleepers, as those beds typically function as springboards that make it easy for them to change positions with minimal sleep disruptions.
While the Nectar Classic does not feature any springs, my fellow mattress testers and I still found it quite easy to move around on. If you are a combination sleeper who prefers an all-foam bed, the Nectar could be a good fit for you. However, if you find yourself tossing and turning a lot at night, then we would probably recommend something more responsive.
Nectar Classic Performance Breakdown
Firmness and Feel
The firmness and feel of a mattress depend on numerous factors, including weight, preferred sleeping position, and other sleep needs. I tested the Nectar with my fellow mattress testers, and we settled on a firmness level together after averaging our scores. We landed on a 6.5 out of 10 on our firmness scale (which is the industry standard for medium-firm).
When thinking of a memory foam mattress, you might imagine sinking into plush, cloud-like layers. At 6.5 out of 10, the Nectar Classic is firmer than most all-foam mattresses that have that slow-sinking feel. While its foam layers offer gentle contouring and cushioning, you will likely feel more “on top” of this mattress than “inside” of it. If other memory foam beds are mushy pasta, the Nectar Classic is al dente.
Cooling
Cooling is a feature that Nectar prides itself on, and I can see why after testing its flagship mattress. During testing, I used a thermal gun to measure the surface temperature of the Nectar before and after lying on it for five uninterrupted minutes. The temperature of the Nectar bed increased by 5.4 degrees during this time. This result is outstanding, considering memory foam models are notorious for their heat retention, as they have no innerspring coils to facilitate natural airflow and ventilation.
I could feel that it absorbed some heat after lying on it, but overall, it was not noticeable during the test, thanks to the cooling fibers embedded in its cover layer.
Edge Support
Edge support measures the strength of the mattress’s sides and corners. Beds with sturdy perimeters allow you to sit and lie down on the far reaches of the mattress without feeling unsteady or slipping off. This reinforced support should be an appealing feature for couples, sleepers with bigger bodies, or anyone who likes spreading out across the mattress surface.
We awarded the Nectar a score of 3.7 out of 5 in this category. This score is slightly above the average; however, my fellow mattress testers and I found that the Nectar was less supportive while sitting on the corners. If you bear down on the mattress to stand up in the morning, you might want to opt for a firmer model to ensure you get enough support. That said, my colleagues and I were able to lie along the perimeter of the mattress during testing without feeling unstable or falling out of bed.
Ease of Movement
Ease of movement, or responsiveness, is important for individuals who frequently change positions and adjust themselves to get comfortable at night. A snappy, springy surface makes it easy to move around on with minimal disruption.
The Nectar Classic is not as responsive as its hybrid and innerspring counterparts, but we found it surprisingly easy to move around on during testing. I had no trouble tossing, turning, and changing between various sleeping positions on this mattress. I gave it a 4 out of 5 for ease of movement overall.
Motion Isolation
Memory foam mattresses are known for their ability to absorb motion and prevent it from traveling to the other side of the bed. During testing, the all-foam Nectar Classic lived up to those expectations and effectively stopped motion from traveling to my testing partner’s side of the mattress while I tossed and turned on my end of the bed. We settled on an impressive 4.7 out of 5 in this category.
Noise
If you are tired of your mattress creaking, squeaking, or making noise that makes it challenging for you to fall asleep, the Nectar should be an excellent replacement for you. I didn’t notice any noise when moving around. I don’t think there’s any chance this bed will start making noise soon, so my colleague and I gave it a perfect 5 out of 5.
Pain Relief
The Nectar Classic performed well in the pain relief category during testing, especially for back sleeping. While resting on my back on this mattress, I felt perfectly aligned and noticed the tension actively leaving my lower lumbar area. My fellow mattress expressed the same sentiment and praised it for its performance in this area.
That said, side sleeping was a different story. While our average-weight and heavier mattress testers appreciated the gentle contouring of the Nectar Classic, some of our lightweight colleagues didn’t sink enough into the mattress to get cushioning around their joints, which took away from its overall score. Overall, we gave it a solid 3.8 out of 5 in this category.
Sex
The best mattresses for sex are usually models that are responsive and have a decent amount of bounce, thanks to their innerspring constructions. Based on my experience with the Nectar Classic, I don’t think it is as bouncy as latex mattresses or hybrid models, so it is easier to move around on without feeling stuck compared to other memory foam models. If you and your partner must have a memory foam mattress, then you will be able to maneuver just fine on the all-foam Nectar.
Its exceptional noise score and solid edge support score also contribute to its performance in this department. Overall, we gave it a sex score of 4.2 out of 5.
Off-Gassing
After unboxing the Nectar Classic, it should take about 24 hours for it to off-gas and fully lose any chemical odor. This off-gassing period is not uncommon for bed-in-a-box models due to the compression methods manufacturers use during the packing process.
Durability
When assessing a mattress’s durability, we review its materials and edge support to gauge its longevity. Generally speaking, mattresses with innerspring coils and reinforced memory foams score better in this category because they are less likely to sag prematurely. Edge support is another good indicator of durability.
With proper use, I believe the Nectar Classic should last 10 years or more, thanks to its dense foam base layer, sturdy edge support, and medium-firm construction.
Nectar Mattress Construction Layers
The Nectar is a 12-inch memory foam mattress designed to deliver a balanced mix of pressure relief and support. Its layered construction combines contouring foams on top with a dense support core underneath, helping the bed maintain its shape and stability over time. Learn more about each layer below.
Cover
The top layer of the all-foam Nectar is soft and cool to the touch. This cover helps draw heat away from the body, promoting a cooler sleep surface.
Comfort Layer
Just beneath the cover is a 1-inch layer of memory foam that gently contours to your body, helping with pressure relief.
Transition Layer
The transition layer is another 3-inch foam layer with a slightly firmer feel. This layer provides improved responsiveness, preventing you from sinking too deeply into the bed and losing support.
Base
At the bottom is an 8-inch support layer of dense foam that reinforces the mattress’s structure, enhances overall stability, and helps limit motion transfer across the bed.
How Do the Policies Measure Up?
Shipping & Unboxing
Nectar offers free shipping via FedEx for all mattress orders within the contiguous United States. They also ship to Alaska and Hawaii, but charge a $150 non-refundable shipping fee per large item.
Warranty
The Nectar Forever Warranty is a lifetime warranty that protects you against manufacturing defects for as long as you own the mattress. It covers issues, like deep sagging (greater than 1.5 inches), foam cracking or breakdown, and similar defects (as long as the bed is used properly on a supportive base).
For the first 10 years, Nectar will replace a defective mattress for free. After 10 years, they’ll repair or replace it with only minimal shipping costs in some cases. Normal wear, comfort preference, stains, or damage from misuse aren’t covered, and the warranty applies only to the original owner.
Trial Period & Returns
Nectar offers a generous 365-night sleep trial, giving you a full year to try out the mattress in your own home. You’ll need to sleep on it for at least 30 nights before starting a return, but after that, you can request a return at any point up until the 365th day from delivery.
If you decide to return the mattress, Nectar won’t charge a return fee. The mattress must be clean and free of stains or damage so Nectar can donate it. Once your return is approved, you’ll receive a full refund to your original payment method. However, shipping, discounts, or free promotional items aren’t refunded. Exchanges work the same way as returns, and you’re limited to one exchange per mattress unless there’s a manufacturing defect.

Nectar makes it fairly easy to get help when you need it. I was initially connected to a chatbot when using their chat option. After requesting a live agent, it took less than 2 minutes for me to connect to a person. The brand offers multiple ways to get in touch, including live chat on its website, email support, and a customer service phone line, so you’re not locked into just one option.

The DreamCloud Original is a hybrid mattress with memory foam and innerspring coils in its construction. During testing, we found that DreamCloud and Nectar performed similarly in many categories, but the DreamCloud had much better edge support overall. If you’re someone who needs a strong surface to bear down on to stand up in the morning, or someone who uses the edges and corners of the bed to tie their shoes, the DreamCloud is the better buy.

Like the Nectar Classic, the Nectar Premier is a memory foam mattress with no innerspring coils in its construction. The Premier is the upgraded version of Nectar’s flagship mattress, and for the most part, it outperformed the base model during testing. If the all-foam construction of the Nectar Classic appeals to you, but you prefer something with better pressure relief for side sleeping, the Nectar Premier is likely the better choice. That said, it isn’t as responsive as the medium-firm Classic, so it might be more challenging to change positions if you frequently toss and turn at night.

Unfortunately, Nectar’s white-glove delivery is temporarily unavailable. As a result, Nectar Sleep will not remove your old mattress from your home.
