Is the Siena Mattress for You?

Who’s Going to Love the Siena Mattress

  • Couples—For those looking to share their next foam bed, the Siena has excellent motion isolation, meaning you won’t feel your partner tossing and turning.
  • Lightweight sleepers—While this bed doesn’t have perfect pressure relief, the Siena’s all-foam design is a great choice for lighter sleepers, regardless of sleeping position.
  • Budget shoppers—At only $500 for a Queen-size bed, the Siena will be at the top of many budget shoppers’ lists for foam mattresses.

Who Should Steer Clear of the Siena Mattress

  • Heavyweight sleepers—For heavier sleepers, the Siena doesn’t offer the most support, nor is it very durable in the long-term. If you’re looking for a more solid all-foam bed, check out the WinkBed mattress.
  • Hot sleepers—If you tend to overheat, foam beds, which trap body heat, may not be ideal for you. And, the Siena mattress is no exception. Instead, for a high-quality cooling foam bed, check out the Nectar Premier Copper.
  • Luxury shoppers—While the Siena mattress is affordable, it isn’t a long-term investment. Check out the DreamCloud Premier for a luxury all-foam bed.

Siena Mattress Firmness and Feel

We’ve covered a few of the ins and outs of the Siena mattress, but now let’s talk more about how this bed actually feels.

Siena Mattress Firmness

At Mattress Nerd, we measure firmness on a scale of 1–10, where a “1” is softer than feathers and a 10 is firmer than bricks. With that in mind, we found that the Siena mattress lands at around 6.5/10 on our firmness scale. This level of firmness falls under medium-firm is ideal for the average sleeper. For lightweight sleepers, however, this level of firmness may be slightly too solid.

What Does the Siena Mattress Feel Like?

In terms of actual feel, the Siena mattress feels on par for a foam bed, with lots of cushioning and pressure relief. However, unlike many other foam beds, the Siena is super lifted and responsive. Instead of sinking down into the bed, this mattress is very easy to stay atop of and move around on.

What Sleeping Position Is Siena Mattress Best For?

Body Type:Back SleepersStomach SleepersSide Sleepers
Lightweight< 130 lbs:554
Average-weight130–230 lbs:544
Heavyweight> 230 lbs:423

1 = Very poor     2 = Not good     3 = Fair     4 = Good     5 = Excellent

Back Sleepers

The best mattresses for back sleepers have balancing lower back support and cushioning down to a science. And, the Siena mattress does too. If you’re a lightweight or average-weight back sleeper, this foam bed is ideal for you. The same goes for heavyweight back sleepers, though they may want slightly more support.

Side Sleepers

In general, side sleepers tend to need the most pressure relief and softness out of any sleeper type. The Siena mattress offers great pressure relief, making it one of the best mattresses for side sleepers who are lightweight or average-weight; however, heavyweight side sleepers will likely want to choose a bed with more support.

Stomach Sleepers

Unlike with side sleepers, the best mattresses for stomach sleepers are plenty firm and offer enough support to keep sleepers’ hips from sinking. The Siena will feel firmest and best for lightweight sleepers and average-weight sleepers. For heavyweight stomach sleepers, however, this bed won’t be firm enough.

Combination Sleepers

Combination sleepers tend to alternate between two or more sleeping positions throughout the night. And, since the Siena mattress works for lightweight and average-weight sleepers of all positions, it’s one of the best mattresses for combination sleepers. However, heavyweight combination sleepers may not get ideal comfort from the Siena, unless they’re primarily back sleepers.

Mattress Performance

Is the Siena Mattress Cooling?

Unfortunately, the best cooling mattresses usually aren’t all foam. This is because polyfoam works by absorbing body heat to soften and contour to the sleeper. Like many other foam beds out there, the Siena mattress isn’t very breathable or cooling.

Edge Support

The best mattresses for seniors have solid edge support which allows for sleepers to sit or lie on the perimeter of their bed without falling off. In this case, the Siena mattress performs decently, but definitely isn’t a top choice.

Responsiveness

While lying on a lot of foam beds can feel like sinking down into quicksand, the Siena mattress is actually unusually firm and responsive. So, if you’re a combination sleeper looking for easy movement, this mattress could be one of the best all-foam beds on the market for you.

Motion Isolation: Is it good for those who share a bed?

The best mattresses for couples have good motion isolation, meaning unwanted movement doesn’t travel through the mattress. This can be a huge deal if you’re an especially light sleeper, or if your partner is a restless sleeper. In this case, the Siena mattress has excellent motion isolation.

Noise

Nothing’s more annoying than a creaky, loud mattress. Fortunately, the Siena mattress, like most all-foam beds, is virtually silent.

Pain Relief

While the Siena mattress offers excellent back pain relief for lightweight and average-weight sleepers, the bed doesn’t provide support for heavier sleepers. So, this mattress isn’t one of the best mattresses for hip pain

Sex

The Siena mattress is quiet and responsive, but it isn’t cooling. So, we’re giving this bed a two out of three for sex. But, if you and your partner especially prioritize keeping cool, this mattress may not be the right choice for you.

Off-Gassing

Since the Siena is a bed-in-a-box mattress, you’ll likely notice some off-gassing as the bed expands. However, this odor is totally harmless and should clear within a few hours to a few days.

Durability

Because the Siena mattress is a budget all-foam bed, it doesn’t have the best durability. So, compared to the average mattress lifespan of about seven years, you can expect this bed to last about five.

Siena Mattress Construction: What’s it made of?

The Siena mattress is a 10” tall all-foam bed that features several layers of comfort and supportive polyfoam situated above a high-density foam foundation layer.

siena mattress construction

Mattress Cover: The first layer of the Siena bed is a poly-blend mattress top that’s designed to draw away body heat and moisture.

Memory Foam Comfort Layer: Below the mattress cover is a 2.5 inches of gel memory foam that contours to the body while providing a lifted feeling.

Supportive Memory Foam: Getting deeper into this bed, the next layer is two inches of supportive and transitional memory foam. This layer offers a layer of softness that keeps the sleeper elevated above the firm foundations of the mattress.

Foundational Foam: Finally, at the bottom of the Siena mattress is a sturdy layer of high-density foam that measures in at 5.5 inches. In addition to providing durability for the mattress, this layer also makes the overall feeling of the bed much firmer.

How Do the Policies Measure Up?

Shipping & Unboxing

If you’re looking to get a Siena mattress of your own, you’ll receive free shipping on your order anywhere in the contiguous United States, and your mattress should ship within 1–3 business days. After that, the bed will arrive at your doorstep in a box.

Warranty

The Siena mattress comes with a 10-year warranty which protects against manufacturer defects. This warranty, however, does not cover any misuse or damage caused by the buyer.

Trial Period & Returns

The Siena mattress comes with a 180-night sleep trial, which means you’ll have half a year to test out your bed before committing. If you don’t like it, you can send your Siena back for a full refund. However, the company does require that you keep your bed for at least a month to fully test it out.

Addressing Siena Mattress Complaints

Too Firm

Several Siena mattress buyers have complained that the bed feels much too firm for their liking. While we did find this bed to be a great fit for a variety of sleepers in the Nerd Lab, we also found the Siena mattress to be on the firmer side for an all-foam bed. So, if you prefer a super soft, sinking memory foam mattress, the Siena may not be ideal for you.

Back Pain

A few Siena mattress owners have also complained that their bed was causing them back pain. However, we found that, even for heavier sleepers, the Siena is an all-around winner for back sleepers. But, if you’re a heavier stomach sleeper, there can definitely be some back issues around the lack of hip support on this bed.

Between these two all-foam beds, the Siena is the much more affordable mattress, and it’s the better choice for lighter sleepers and sleepers wanting more responsiveness, or ease of movement. On the other hand, though more expensive, the Casper is a much more durable and luxurious mattress; plus it has better motion isolation for couples and temperature regulation too.

Comparing the all-foam Siena to the all-foam Nectar, the Siena is a better fit for lightweight sleepers of all positions, and it’s more affordable too. However, the Nectar offers better motion isolation for couples and edge support for seniors. Lastly, the Nectar will be more comfortable for those who prefer a traditional memory foam feel, while the Siena is slightly cooler.

The biggest differences between these two foam beds are that the Siena is much cheaper than the Purple, and the Purple is much cooler than the Siena. On top of this, the Siena offers better support for heavier sleepers and motion isolation for couples. However, the Purple is a bit more responsive and firm too.

Siena Mattress FAQs

How Long For the Siena Mattress To Expand?

Your Siena mattress will arrive at your doorstep as a bed in a box. Once you’ve begun to unpackage it, your Siena should take about three hours to fully expand. During this time, you may also notice off-gassing, or the new mattress smell, as your bed expands.

How Firm is the Siena Mattress?

The Siena mattress is a medium-firm bed, but it is definitely much firmer than the typical all-foam mattress. Nonetheless, this bed is great for lightweight sleepers, regardless of whether they’re stomach, back, side, or combination sleepers. For heavier sleepers, however, this bed does lack support.

Is the Siena Mattress Toxic?

No. This mattress is made entirely from different layers of foam, all of which have been CertiPUR-US-certified. This certification means that the Siena mattress contains no harmful chemicals in its foam construction and that no toxic emissions or gasses will come out of the bed.

The Nerd’s Take: What’s the Bottom Line?

The Siena mattress is a budget, all-foam bed that’s a great choice for lighter sleepers. However, this bed lacks the proper support for heavier sleepers and isn’t very cooling. Overall, we recommend this mattress for couples and combination sleepers, but not luxury shoppers or hot sleepers.
