The recently revamped Helix Midnight Luxe outperforms its predecessor in almost every category, cementing its place as one of the best luxury hybrid mattresses on the market.

My fellow sleep experts and I have tested over 200 mattresses in our Charlotte, NC, sleep studio, including the latest version of the Helix Midnight Luxe. We evaluated its performance across multiple categories, such as pain relief, cooling, and support.

During testing, it impressed us with its best-in-class corner-to-corner support and balanced, pressure-relieving feel. Its cooling and responsiveness were also above-average, making it a great option for couples and combination sleepers.

Read on to see what our certified sleep science coaches and mattress testers had to say about it.

Nerd’s Take on the Helix Midnight Luxe

The recent 2025 revamp of the Helix Midnight Luxe improves upon its predecessor in numerous areas. Our testers were particularly impressed with its robust corner-to-corner support, strong temperature-regulating performance, and side-sleeping pressure relief. Based on our data, we think this mattress is a home run for hot sleepers, couples, and back and side sleepers alike.

That said, we found that its medium-firm construction might be a touch too rigid for sleepers under 130 pounds who struggle with joint pain. Its 120-night sleep trial also left us wanting, especially for a mattress that feels premium across the board.

What Sleeping Position Is the Helix Midnight Luxe Best For?

Average-weight (130–230 lbs):544.5
Heavyweight (> 230 lbs): 534

Back Sleepers

The ideal mattress for back sleepers is one with a medium to medium-firm surface that provides enough support to keep the hips aligned with the rest of the body. It should also gently cushion the lower lumbar region to help relieve pressure.

Our testers praised the Helix Midnight Luxe as a fantastic option for back sleepers across the board, thanks to its robust construction, medium-firm feel, and plush pillow-top layer.

“I love how this mattress felt against my back,” one tester said. “The puffy dough of the pillow top provided contouring and cushioning, while the lower layers gave me extra lift to support my spine.”

Side Sleepers

Similarly, we think side sleepers will also fare well on the Helix Midnight Luxe mattress. The gentle cushioning from its top layer should provide some much-needed pressure relief in pain-prone areas, such as the shoulders and hips.

However, side sleepers under 130 pounds (especially those with sensitive joints) might find that they do not sink enough into the layers of the Midnight Luxe to receive the same pressure relief as average-weight sleepers and those over 230 pounds. These sleepers would benefit from a soft mattress instead.

Stomach Sleepers

Like back sleepers, stomach sleepers also need a mattress that elevates their hips and aligns them with their spines. In most cases, we think the Helix Midnight Luxe is a solid choice for sleepers in this category.

That said, stomach sleepers weighing over 230 pounds will likely sink in more near their hips, which could cause discomfort for some. For these sleepers, I would recommend the more supportive Helix Plus.

Combination Sleepers

Sleepers who frequently change positions at night, or combination sleepers, require a responsive sleep surface. Hybrid mattresses or any mattress with innerspring coils in their construction are usually ideal for these sleepers, as the coils make these beds feel more trampoline-like and easy to maneuver on.

During testing, our sleep experts found that it was still easy to move around on the Helix Midnight Luxe, despite its pillowy cover layer. While the top layer provided some resistance when changing positions, it was not enough to be disruptive.

“It’s not hard to switch positions on this bed, but it’s also not as easy as it is on bouncier mattresses,” said one tester. “I felt like I had sunk slightly into the puffy cheese bread of the pillow top, and I had to push up out of it to get moving.”

Helix Midnight Luxe Performance Breakdown

Firmness and Feel

The firmness of a mattress depends on multiple factors, including the position you prefer to sleep in, your weight, and other needs. During testing, we enlisted a panel of mattress experts of different shapes and sizes to lie on the Helix Midnight Luxe and rate the firmness on a scale of 1 to 10. After averaging their scores, we agreed on a 6.5 out of 10 (or medium-firm).

“The pillow top is definitely providing a bulk of the cushion here,” said mattress tester Livvi DiCicco. “However, I feel like the springs below offer a counterbalance to that softness. Nothing felt out of alignment, either. I would place this right at medium-firm.”

Cooling

If you are someone who typically wakes up covered in sweat, temperature regulation is likely near the top of your priority list when shopping for a mattress. Fortunately for hot sleepers, the Helix Midnight Luxe is a luxurious option that stays crisp and comfortable over time. Our mattress testers gave it a 4.3 out of 5 in the cooling category.

During testing, we used a thermal gun to measure the Helix Midnight Luxe’s surface temperature before and after resting on it for 5 minutes. After lying on it for 5 uninterrupted minutes, the temperature only increased by 7 degrees, placing it among our best cooling mattresses.

“The surface of the Helix Midnight Luxe feels cool to the touch,” said one of our mattress experts. “I didn’t notice it heating beneath me while I lay there. When I felt where I had lain after I got up, it didn’t feel much different than before I lay on it.”

Cooling – 4.3

Edge Support

Edge support describes the strength of the sides and corners of a mattress. A mattress with a sturdy perimeter enables you to use the entire surface of the bed without feeling unsupported or falling off. Edge support matters most for couples, sleepers with bigger bodies, and those with mobility concerns who need a strong surface to bear down on.

The Helix Midnight Luxe earned a near-perfect 4.8 out of 5 in this category, thanks to its durable construction and seemingly unbendable perimeter.

“When I was lying on the edge of the bed, I didn’t feel unsupported or at risk of tumbling off,” said one of our certified sleep science coaches. “I think you could sleep at the far edges of this bed without worrying about the sides sagging or crumbling.”

Edge Support – 4.8

Ease of Movement

Responsiveness, or ease of movement, is vital if you are someone who frequently tosses, turns, and changes positions at night. A buoyant sleep surface will allow you to move around without exerting too much effort, which is essential for uninterrupted rest.

Like many other hybrid mattresses, the Helix Midnight Luxe mattress is fairly responsive and easy to move on. Our testers noticed some sinkage from the pillow-top layer, but agreed that it did not significantly detract from the responsiveness, and awarded it a 4 out of 5 in this category.

“Despite the doughy top, this mattress has some bounce to it,” one tester said. “I don’t think most typical combination sleepers will notice anything once they are asleep. The material of the top layer is a little bit soft and slippery, which can make it difficult to move around on, but sheets should help with this.”

Ease of Movement – 4

Motion Isolation

Mattresses with memory foam in their construction are typically better at isolating motion and preventing it from rippling across the surface of the bed. Meanwhile, innerspring coils can often make a bed feel more bouncy, but as a result, they transfer more motion from side to side.

Since the Helix Midnight Luxe has the best of both worlds, we were curious to see how it would handle motion transfer. Fortunately, most sleepers should be able to sleep without hiccups on this model, even if they have a restless partner.

During testing, we had two mattress experts team up and lie on the bed together. One tester lay motionless and blindfolded on one side, while the other tossed and turned and got out of bed on the other. Despite some minor movements, our motionless tester noted very few movements coming from the other side of the bed, and awarded the Helix a 4 out of 5 in this category.

“I could feel Livvi shifting positions beside me,” she said. “Her movements were mostly softened, but not completely isolated. I didn’t feel her getting in or out of bed, so the mattress does absorb quite a bit of motion.”

Motion Isolation – 4

Noise

Our mattress experts praised the Helix Midnight Luxe for its noiselessness. The innerspring coils did not creak or squeak during testing.

“I didn’t hear a peep from the mattress when I moved around on it or scrunched it into TV mode on the base,” one tester said.

Noise – 5

Pain Relief

side sleeping on the helix midnight luxe mattress 2 1

Our mattress experts awarded the Helix Midnight Luxe a 4.2 out of 5 in the pain relief category for its impressive performance in the back and side sleeping positions. During testing, they praised the luxurious pillow top for its ability to contour their hips, shoulders, and lower lumbar region across both positions.

“The pillowy cover layer cushioned my shoulder and hip when I lay in a side-sleeping position,” one tester said. “I felt the surface of the Midnight Luxe fill in the gap at my hip in a way that was really comfortable.”

Most sleepers experiencing tension in these areas should find relief on the Midnight Luxe. However, side sleepers under 130 pounds and those with particularly sensitive joints may find it slightly too rigid for comfort.

Pain Relief – 4.2

Sex

Couples looking for the best mattress for sex will want something with a bouncy surface. The Helix Midnight Luxe is a good mattress for sex due to its responsive innerspring coils that prevent sleepers from feeling trapped in the foam layers. While its pillow-top layer might provide some sinkage, we believe its responsiveness is enough to overcome any potential awkward pauses or disruptions.

Off-Gassing

The Helix Midnight Luxe takes roughly 24 hours to off-gas and lose its chemical odor. Bed-in-a-box models typically take about a day to lose the “new mattress smell” because of the compression methods used to pack the bed.

Durability

To evaluate a mattress’s durability, my fellow mattress testers and I look at its materials and edge support to estimate its lifespan. In most scenarios, a mattress with innerspring coils and reinforced edge support scores better in this category because they are more resistant to premature sagging.

Thanks to its premium materials and near-perfect edge support, I anticipate that the Helix Midnight Luxe will last 10 years or more, especially with proper use and rotation.

Helix Midnight Luxe Construction Layers

The Helix Midnight Luxe is a tall 13.5-inch hybrid mattress fully equipped with reinforced innerspring coils, pressure-relieving memory foam, and a cradling pillow-top cover layer. Learn more about its individual layers below.

Cover

The Helix Midnight Luxe features a plush Tencel cover. Tencel is a material derived from Eucalyptus that feels crisp and breathable. Helix also offers an optional GlacioTex cover for a longer-lasting cooling feel. The plush cover layer of the mattress is also quilted with gel-infused memory foam to provide additional cushioning.

Comfort Layer

Beneath the cover, you will find a high-density memory foam layer that slowly responds to pressure. This layer offers a balance between contouring and support.

Transition Layer

A thin transitional layer of memory foam that helps ease the sleeper into the coil layer beneath it.

Support Later

The support layer of the Helix Midnight Luxe consists of pocketed coils zoned for support. In other words, their firmness fluctuates depending on which body part they are supporting.

Base Layer

A thinner base layer of dense memory foam rests at the base of the mattress to help give it shape.

How Do the Policies Measure Up?

Warranty

mattress nerd helix midnight luxe 04 1

Helix’s limited lifetime warranty covers mattresses purchased directly from Helix or an authorized retailer and applies only to the original owner in the U.S. or Canada. The coverage lasts for as long as the original purchaser owns the mattress, but it is not transferable (so be sure to save your receipt).

For the first 10 years, coverage is non-prorated, meaning Helix will repair or replace a qualifying defective mattress at no cost. From year 11 onward, Helix offers replacement at a prorated rate.

The warranty covers manufacturing defects, including visible indentations greater than 1.5 inches (when used on a proper foundation), cracks or splits in the foam or springs, and defects in the mattress cover assembly. It does not cover normal softening, changes in comfort preference after the 120-night trial, or damage from misuse, stains, or improper support.

To file a claim, the original purchaser must provide proof of purchase and photos of the defect. If approved, Helix will either repair or replace the mattress (or cover), though removing the mattress cover yourself will void the warranty.

Trial Period & Returns

Helix offers 120 nights to test your new mattress. If you are unsatisfied with your purchase, Helix will organize an exchange for a mattress of greater or equal value, or facilitate a free return.

Customer Service

The Helix website features a user-friendly chat tool that is simple to use and well-organized. When I tried it, it quickly provided me a thorough list of helpful FAQs, and it also gave me the option to connect with a live customer service representative for more personalized support. Alternatives to Consider

Before you purchase the Helix Midnight Luxe, see how it stacks up against some of the competition below.

Helix Midnight Luxe vs. Titan Plus Core

Titan designs their mattress with bigger bodies in mind. The hybrid construction of the Plus Core is firmer than the Midnight Luxe at 7.5 out of 10 on our firmness scale. The Titan is a great, supportive option for sleepers weighing 230 pounds or more. However, average-weight sleepers and those under 130 pounds will fare better on the Helix Midnight Luxe, thanks to the cushioning provided by its cover layer.

Helix Midnight Luxe vs. Nectar

The Nectar Classic mattress is a medium-firm all-foam model that excelled in our back-sleeping pressure relief and cooling categories during testing. If you prefer the feel of a traditional memory foam mattress over hybrid beds, this mattress offers comparable support to the Helix Midnight Luxe. That said, our testers agree that the Helix Midnight Luxe offers better contouring and cushioning for side sleepers.

Helix Midnight Luxe vs. Saatva Classic

The Saatva Classic has a traditional innerspring mattress feel, thanks to its two layers of pocketed coils. Like the Helix Midnight Luxe, it features a Euro top layer for added cushioning and contouring. The Saatva Classic outperforms the Midnight Luxe for stomach sleepers, thanks to its robust support for the hips and lower lumbar region. However, side sleepers will almost certainly feel more comfortable on the softer Helix Midnight Luxe.
