Nectar Premier Copper Hybrid Mattress Firmness and Feel

Nectar Premier Copper Hybrid Mattress Firmness

Here in the Nerd Lab, we like to measure firmness on a very scientific scale of 1–10, where a 1 is softer than air and a 10 is firmer than actual copper. With that, the Nectar Premier Copper Hybrid comes in at a 5/10 on our firmness scale.

This middle-of-the-road firmness level will feel plenty soft for the average sleeper, with some lightweight sleepers preferring an even softer bed and some heavyweight sleepers preferring more firmness.

What Does the Nectar Premier Copper Hybrid Feel Like?

Since the Nectar Premier Copper is a hybrid bed, meaning it’s made from both memory foam and pocketed coils, this mattress has an initial bounce to it followed by the classic memory foam “sink” once you’ve settled in. For heavier sleepers, however, this bed won’t feel as initially bouncy or responsive because it’s on the softer side for hybrid beds.

Moving on to the Copper Hybrid’s temperature control, this bed feels cool at first thanks to the copper-infused mattress top, and it stays cool with the bed’s breathable support coils.

What Sleeping Position Is The Nectar Premier Copper Hybrid Mattress Best For?

Average-weight130–230 lbs:534
Heavyweight> 230 lbs:525

Back Sleepers

The best mattresses for back sleepers work their magic by supporting and cushioning the lower back and keeping the natural “S” curve of the spine. In this case, Nectar’s Copper Hybrid offers great back relief for lightweight, average-weight, and heavyweight sleepers alike.

Side Sleepers

Moving on to side sleepers, they need a bed that has plenty of softness and relief to keep pressure off of their hips and shoulders. With this Nectar Hybrid, heavyweight sleepers get the best balance of support and pressure relief, while average-weight and especially lightweight sleepers may have trouble sinking down enough.

Stomach Sleepers

The best mattresses for stomach sleepers offer enough firmness to keep the hips from sinking down into the mattress and throwing spine alignment off. If you’re a lightweight stomach sleeper, the Nectar Copper Hybrid should have you covered, but average-weight and heavyweight sleepers will want more firmness underneath them.

Combination Sleepers

Combination sleepers like to switch up their sleeping position throughout the night, so they need a bed that will let them do just that. If that sounds like you, then you’re in luck. The Nectar Copper Hybrid has outstanding responsiveness, especially for lightweight and average-weight sleepers. However, heavyweight sleepers may find themselves sinking down too far into the bed.

Nectar Premier Copper Hybrid Mattress Performance

Is the Nectar Premier Copper Hybrid Mattress Cooling?

What makes the Nectar Copper Hybrid one of the best cooling mattresses is its temperature regulating, copper-infused top layer and its breathable support layer of pocketed coils. Overall, if you tend to overheat and sweat during the night, this Nectar bed is a great hybrid option.

Edge Support

Mattresses with good edge support will hold your weight as you sit or sleep near the very edge of your bed. For seniors with limited mobility and for couples who like to spread out, this extra durability and soldiness is especially important. That said, this Nectar’s edge support is pretty average—you shouldn’t have any issues, but it’s not the best.

Responsiveness

Since the Nectar Premier Copper Hybrid has bouncy pocketed coils in its support layers, this bed feels pretty responsive and has some bounce. For combination sleepers and couples, this is pretty good news; however, heavier sleepers may find the bed too soft to move across it easily.

Motion Isolation: Is it good for those who share a bed?

While hybrid beds are usually pretty responsive, like this Nectar mattress, they can also lack in motion isolation, also like this Nectar. This is because while pocketed coils are bouncy, they also transfer motion throughout the bed. So, if you’re sick of feeling your partner’s every toss and turn on your current bed, the Nectar Copper Hybrid probably won’t be the answer to your prayers.

Noise

Lastly, one other downside of a hybrid bed is that its coils can be noisy and creaky. If this is a major concern for you, don’t worry—the Nectar Copper Hybrid is quiet. This is thanks to the bed’s multiple layers of soft foam and a transition layer between you and the coils.

Pain Relief

Memory foam is known for offering great pain relief, and this Nectar, although a hybrid, is mostly made of foam. If you struggle with back pain, especially, the Nectar Hybrid’s pressure-relieving foam and support layers should be a great fit.

Sex

What makes the best mattresses for sex? Usually, they’re cooling, quiet, and responsive. And, coincidentally, the Nectar Premier Copper Hybrid is all of these things. So, although this bed’s not great for sleeping with your partner per se, it’s still great for sleeping with your partner.

Off-Gassing

Unboxing your new mattress can come with a lot of unexpected, chemically odors—this is called off-gassing. With the Nectar Copper Hybrid, you should get only minimal odors, if any. And don’t worry, this bed doesn’t smell like pennies.

Durability

Lastly, you can learn a lot about a mattress’s durability by its materials, height, and edge support. In this case, the Nectar has solid edge support, pocketed coils, and is 14” tall, all of which bode well for its durability.

Nectar Premier Copper Hybrid Mattress Construction: What’s it made of?

The Nectar Premier Copper Hybrid’s combination of supportive foam and pocketed coils offers a soft but responsive feel. Also, along with the breathable coil layer, the top layer of this bed is infused with copper, helping you stay cool throughout the night. Lastly, the Premier Copper Hybrid includes several layers of support foam that take pressure off of the body.

nectar premier copper hybrid construction

Layer #1: Quilted Copper Cover:

The mattress cover of the Nectar Premier Copper Hybrid is, you guessed it, infused with copper which regulates body temperature and helps you sleep cooler. Additionally, the Copper Hybrid’s cover has an antimicrobial finish.

Layer #2: Plush Memory Foam:

Below Nectar’s cover is a layer of contouring and soft memory foam that’s two inches thick. For sleepers needing pressure relief, this memory foam is great for molding to any body type and reducing pressure points.

Layer #3: Support Memory Foam:

Getting deeper into this mattress, next up is a layer of firmer, supportive memory foam. This section of the bed is also two inches thick, and it provides more lift and bounce for combination and back sleepers.

Layer #4: Foam Transition Layer:

Right above this Nectar’s coils is an inch thick layer of transition foam. Unlike the softer layers above, this transition foam works by adding extra snap to the bed’s bouncy coils while lifting your body off of the innersprings.

Layer #5: Innerspring Coil Support Layer:

Finally, this layer is what makes the Nectar Premier Copper Hybrid, well, a hybrid. With eight inches of pocketed coils, sleepers can enjoy a breathable bed that responds well to movement.

Layer #6: Foam Base Layer:

And last, but not least, is the Nectar’s base layer of super sturdy foam. While you don’t sleep on this layer, it works by supporting the innersprings (and the entire bed) above, which boosts durability.

Addressing Nectar Premier Copper Mattress Complaints

Too Soft

One of the top complaints from Nectar buyers is that the Premier Copper Hybrid is way too soft. Specifically, for stomach sleepers and heavier sleepers, customers complain that they end up sinking too far down into the bed and that they’re not getting proper support.

Based on our tests in the Nerd Lab, this could definitely be the case for heavyweight and even average-weight stomach sleepers. This Nectar bed only has a medium firmness, so sleepers who prioritize firmness and hip support, may want to look for other options.

Too Firm

Oddly enough, the second most common complaint from consumers was that this bed was way too firm. Although the Nectar only has a medium firmness, side sleepers have complained that they’re waking up with hip and shoulder pain, along with some stiffness.

If you’re a lightweight side sleeper, the Nectar Premier Copper Hybrid probably won’t be the best bed for you, since it’s geared more toward back sleepers. Specifically, if you’re a smaller side sleeper, you’ll likely find you can’t sink down very far into this bed.
