Saatva and Nectar are both household names in the mattress market—but there are big differences between these two mattress brands. The Saatva mattress is a hybrid pillow top mattress with luxurious features—and a price tag to match, while the Nectar is a more budget-friendly all-foam bed. Based on our testing process, we’ll break down the differences between these two beds, so you can find the right mattress for your best sleep.

Saatva vs. Nectar Overview

The Saatva is a luxury hybrid innerspring mattress built with eco-friendly and high quality memory foam and durable steel coils and topped with a euro pillow top. The Nectar mattress is a more affordable option built with contouring gel memory foam layers

Who Should Choose the Saatva Mattress?

  • Stomach sleepers: The Saatva mattress is built with a reinforced lumbar support system and two firmer firmness level options that will keep stomach sleepers to all sizes from sinking too far into the bed.
  • Hot sleepers: Two layers of breathable coils and a moisture wicking cover help keep this hybrid mattress temperature neutral throughout the night.
  • Heavyweight sleepers: This bed’s more sturdy firmness options and durable innerspring coils prevent sinkage to help sleepers with more body weight comfortable.

Who Should Choose the Nectar Mattress?

  • Side sleepers: The Nectar mattress’s adaptive hi core memory foam provides a balance of support and contouring comfort that keep back and joint pain at bay for side sleepers.
  • People who suffer from joint pain: Layers of memory foam contour and cushion around pressure points to help keep pressure off of your back and joints.
  • Lightweight and petite sleepers: The Nectar bed’s plush soft support will provide pressure relief and support for lightweight and petite sleepers.

Saatva vs. Nectar: Top Similarities

  • Both the Saatva and Nectar come in medium-firm firmness options. Saatva, however, calls their medium firm bed a “luxury firm” mattress and also comes in plush and firm options.
  • Saatva and Nectar offer Lifetime warranties with your new mattress purchase, making each bed a good investment.
  • Saatva and Nectar beds provide a balance of pressure relief and stable support, making them good picks for lightweight and average sleepers.

Saatva vs. Nectar: Top Differences

  • The Saatva mattress is a luxury bed with a high-end price tag to match. The Nectar mattress provides many similar benefits at a more affordable price.
  • The Saatva is a hybrid bed and is built with two springy and supportive layers of innerspring coils, while the Nectar is an entirely memory foam bed
  • While Saatva bed’s pillow top provides a plush sleeping surface, the Nectar bed’s multiple layers of foam give your body a deeper hug as you sleep.

Saatva vs. Nectar: Firmness & Feel Differences

Although both of these beds have a softer feel than a traditional innerspring bed, they each provide a unique sensation and level of support.

What’s the Firmness of the Saatva & Nectar Mattresses?

The Saatva mattress comes in plush (3/10), luxury firm (6/10) and firm (8/10) firmness level options. The plush mattress will suit lightweight and average-weight side sleepers, while back and stomach sleepers of all body types will likely prefer the firmer mattress options. Heavyweight sleepers may find the firm option the most comfortable because the bed’s firm support will keep them propped up comfortably on the surface of the bed.

The Nectar only comes in one firmness level option—medium firm (6/10). This middle-of-the-road firmness level will provide enough support for lightweight and average-weight sleepers, but heavyweight sleepers may prefer a firmer surface and feel like they are sinking too far for comfort into this memory foam bed.

What Do the Saatva & Nectar Mattresses Feel Like?

The Saatva’s pillow top gently cradles your curves, while the sturdy coil layers underneath keep your body supported to prevent sinkage for sleepers of all body types.

Those who want a deeper contouring feel will prefer the Nectar mattress, which has a soft, doughy feel that hugs you as you lie on the bed. Lightweight and average-weight sleepers will likely be able to move comfortably on the surface of this bed, but heavyweight sleepers may feel stuck.

What’s It Like to Sleep On the Saatva & Nectar Mattresses?

The Saatva’s durable and responsive innerspring layers allow this bed to support sleepers of all body types and respond to your movements throughout the night. The Nectar bed’s support level is better suited for lightweight and average-weight sleepers, but its foam layers provide deep contouring that will be preferable for side sleepers and sleepers who need extra pressure relief.

Average-weight (130–230 lbs):425
Heavyweight (> 230 lbs): 223

1 = Very poor, 2 = Not good, 3 = Fair, 4 = Good, 5 = Excellent

Average-Weight Sleepers (130–230 lbs)

The Saatva mattress provides a balance of comfort and firm support for average-weight back and stomach sleepers, but may not have enough cushion to prevent side-sleepers from waking up with sore hips and shoulders. This bed’s springy coils will allow combination sleepers to switch sleep positions with ease.

Back sleepers and side sleepers will likely find the Nectar mattress to be supportive enough to keep them comfortable throughout the night, but average-weight stomach sleepers probably won’t get the support they need on the Nectar mattress. The Nectar’s foam layers are responsive, but combination sleepers might prefer an innerspring bed to make moving around at light a little easier.

Heavyweight Sleepers (> 230 lbs)

Heavyweight side, back, and stomach sleepers will likely find that the Saatva bed provides ample support from the bed’s multiple innerspring coil layers and reinforced lumbar support feature. Side sleepers may want to opt for the luxury firm option or add an extra plush mattress topper to get the pressure relief they need. The innerspring coil construction will also allow combination sleepers to toss and turn with ease.

The Nectar mattress may not provide enough support for the lower back and spine in sleepers over 230 lbs, but sleepers with more body weight find this bed comfortable if they like a deep, sinking feeling as they lie on their mattress.

Lightweight Sleepers (< 130 lbs)

The Saatva mattress provides more than enough support for lightweight sleepers. Back and stomach sleepers will likely get great night’s sleep on the luxury firm model of this bed, but side sleepers would benefit from the plush firmness level to add a little cushion around the hips and shoulders. Combination sleepers will also be able to move around easily.

The Nectar’s medium firm support level will provide enough stability to support lightweight sleepers in virtually every sleeping position. This bed’s responsive foam will also allow lightweight combination sleepers to move around without feeling stuck in the bed.

Differences In Mattress Construction

The Saatva bed comes in two height options—14.5” or 11.5″— and is built with two coil layers, two foam layers, added lumbar support and edge support. The Nectar bed has a height of 12” and is built with three foam layers and two mattress covers—one on the bottom of the bed to prevent slippage and one on the surface.

Cover

The Saatva mattress comes wrapped in an organic cotton, antimicrobial cover that comes with a euro-style pillow top built in for extra plush comfort. The Nectar mattress is topped with a breathable quilted poly-blend foam top layer.

Comfort Layers

The Saatva is built with a memory foam lumbar support layer, a polyfoam layer that provides pressure relief with firm support where you need it most to keep your spine healthy. The Nectar comfort layer, on the other hand, provides plush soft comfort and is infused with gel beads to add breathability to this memory foam bed.

Support Layers

The Saatva is built with several support layers: active wire lumbar support, which helps keep your midsection propped up, an edge support system to keep the sides of the bed sturdy and durable, and a layer of durably and responsive coils.

The Nectar mattress is built with both a dynamic support foam layer and a dense foam base layer that both respond to your movements and provide gentle pushback to this memory foam mattress.

Saatva & Nectar Mattress Performance Ratings & Differences

Temperature

The Saatva mattress will sleep cooler than the Nectar because of its hybrid construction—the multiple layers of innerspring coils facilitate airflow throughout the bed, and the bed’s breathable cotton cover helps wick away moisture. Saatva is temperature neutral because of two foam layers and breathable cover.

The Nectar mattress’s gel memory foam layers help it sleep cooler than the average all-foam, but this bed still holds more heat than the typical hybrid or innerspring mattress. For more cooling options, see our picks for the best cooling mattresses.

Motion Transfer

Both beds are built with foam that help absorb vibrations that happen when you move to prevent you from disturbing your partner if you move around at night, but the the Nectar bed’s multiple layers of thick memory foam do a stronger job at muffling movements and provide better motion isolation for those that sleep with a partner or pet.

Edge Support

Both beds have solid edge support, but the Saatva is built with extra edge reinforcement that adds extra durability and allows you to sprawl across the full surface of the bed without any sinking sensations near the sides.

Pressure Relief

The Saatva mattress is built with a foam layer and pillow top that provide adequate pressure relief for the average sleeper, but the Nectar mattress has plush foam layers that go above and beyond to provide deep contouring comfort and cradle your pressure points as you sleep.

Pain Relief

The Saatva mattress is one of the best mattresses for back pain—it is built with multiple coil layers that adjust to your natural curves while keeping you propped up in a healthy posture throughout the night. The Saatva’s pillow top keeps the bed comfy while still providing a firm level of support for a healthy back. The Nectar’s pressure relieving qualities may help those with joint pain, but heavier sleepers may experience sinkage that could cause an achy back.

Durability

Both the Saatva and Nectar beds are backed by Lifetime warranties, but the Saatva’s hybrid construction will help it last longer over time. Customer reviews report that the foam in the Nectar starts losing its supportive edge within seven to 10 years, while the Saatva lasts over 10 years.
