At Mattress Nerd, we look at mattress firmness on a scale of 1–10, where a 10 is the firmest possible and a 1 is softer than a whisper. Let’s see how the SweetNight Whisper measures up.
The Whisper is actually a two-for-one in terms of firmness since you can flip the mattress over to switch between the soft side, which scores a 5/10 on the firmness scale, and the firm side, which scores a 6.5/10. Starting with the soft side, this firmness level is true neutral, and it’ll appeal to the average sleeper. And, the firmer side of the bed will work best for back sleepers and stomach sleepers.
What Does the SweetNight Whisper Feel Like?
Depending on which side of the Whisper you’re lying on, you’ll get a very different feel. The firmer side of this bed feels more responsive, bouncy, and lifted, while the softer side is soft, sinking, and doughy.
For temperature, both sides of the bed feel cool to the touch. But, since the Whisper is a memory foam bed, it isn’t super breathable. Lastly, if you’re looking for pressure relief, the firm side of the Whisper feels more supportive than the soft side, but the soft side has more cushioning.

Back Sleepers
What makes the best mattresses for back sleepers? It’s all about providing enough support to the lower back and keeping the natural “S” curve of the spine. With the SweetNight Whisper mattress, lightweight and average-weight back sleepers should be comfortable on either side, while heavyweight back sleepers will prefer the firm side.
Side Sleepers
Side sleepers also need a mattress that keeps their back aligned while also taking pressure off of their shoulders and hips. That said, while SweetNight Whisper does have a soft option, lightweight, average-weight, and heavyweight side sleepers alike will have some issues with pressure relief on this mattress. Overall, this isn’t the best option for side sleepers.

Stomach Sleepers
The best mattresses for stomach sleepers do their job by keeping your hips elevated and from sinking down. For lightweight and average-weight stomach sleepers, the Whisper should work on either side, but heavyweight stomach sleepers will want to opt for the firmer side, or a firmer mattress altogether.
Combination Sleepers
Combination sleepers change positions throughout the night, so they need a responsive bed that will easily let them do that. If that sounds like you, whether you’re a lightweight, average-weight, or heavyweight sleeper, then the firm side of the Whisper will be your best bet. This is because the soft side of the mattress has that classic “quicksand” feel of memory foam, making it hard to move around.

Is the SweetNight Whisper Mattress Cooling?
Although the SweetNight Whisper has cooling gel-infused in its design, and it feels cool to the touch as well, this bed isn’t one of the best cooling mattresses. There isn’t a lot of breathability either. And, like a lot of memory foam mattresses, you’ll feel yourself heat up pretty quickly on this bed.
Edge Support
A mattress with good edge support will let you sit or sleep on its edges without sagging or dumping you onto the floor. Whether you’re a senior needing more support getting out of bed, or you want to spread out on your mattress with a partner, edge support is a major consideration.
In terms of the Whisper mattress, you’ll get solid edge support on either side. And, for an all-foam mattress, that’s definitely a bonus.

Responsiveness
Back to combination sleepers, responsiveness in a mattress is super important for sleepers who want to easily move on their bed. The firm side of the Whisper has good responsiveness and bouncy, but the soft side seriously lacks. So, if you’re a die-hard combination sleeper, you’ll likely be limited to one side of this bed.
Motion Isolation: Is it good for those who share a bed?
If you get woken up by your partner tossing and turning it at night, it might be your mattress’s fault—not theirs. In fact, the best mattresses for couples do a good job of limiting motion transfer, the feeling of unwanted disturbance moving through the mattress.
For the Whisper mattress, you’ll get decent motion isolation on either side, but the firm side comes out on top. That said, the Whisper isn’t particularly motion isolating for a foam mattress.
Noise
Noisy mattresses are usually the result of creaky springs and coils. Fortunately, the SweetNight Whisper has none of these, meaning your all-foam mattress will be pretty much silent.
Pain Relief
For sleepers with back pain, the Whisper’s soft memory foam offers solid pain relief, but sleepers on their sides wanting to ease hip pain or shoulder pain won’t find the Whisper ideal.
Sex
If you plan on doing more than just sleeping on your new mattress, it’s important to consider how responsive, cooling, and quiet it is. Considering the SweetNight Whisper, this bed is quiet and responsive (if you choose the firm side), but temperature control might be a serious issue for some couples.

Off-Gassing
Unboxing a new mattress often comes with a “new mattress smell” that can linger for days. With the Whisper mattress, however, you can rest assured this bed doesn’t have any odors.
Durability
Durability is the SweetNight Whisper’s biggest shortcoming. After you unbox this bed, it takes a long time to expand to its full size, and, since this is a memory foam bed, you won’t get the same sturdiness or reinforcement as an innerspring bed.

The SweetNight Whisper is a two-side, flippable memory foam mattress that comes in either eight inches, 10 inches, or 12 inches. This bed contains several layers of breathable fabric, high-density memory foam, cooling gel infused memory foam, and pressure-relieving support foam.
Layer #1: Mattress Cover: The top mattress layer of the SweetNight Whisper (on the soft side) is a seamless and cooling fabric that is designed to wick away moisture and heat from the body. Although this bed isn’t super breathable, the top layer does feel cool to the touch.
Layer #2: Pressure-Relieving Foam: Below the cover is the first layer of memory foam. This layer gives the softer side of the Whisper mattress its sinking and plush feel, and its soft design helps to distribute weight and keep pressure away from your back and sides
Layer #3: Cooling Gel Memory Foam: Moving down, the next comfort layer of the Whisper mattress is made of gel-infused foam. This foam is designed to draw heat away from your body since memory foam mattresses often absorb and trap heat.
Layer #4: High Density Support Foam: For the soft side of the mattress, this layer is the support layer. For the firmer side; however, this would be the first comfort layer. Either way, this is the firmest layer of the Whisper bed, and it adds more durability and fitness to this mattress, regardless of how you flip it.

How Do the Policies Measure Up?
Shipping & Unboxing
If you decide to try out the SweetNight Whisper mattress, it will ship to you anyways in the United States (excluding Alaska and Hawaii), and it will cost more to ship through FedEx and UPS if you live in a more remote location.
Furthermore, the Whisper should ship to you within one business day of placing your order, and it should arrive at your house within another three to five business days.
Warranty
Once you’ve purchased your Whisper bed, it’ll come with a 10-year Limited Warranty that covers any manufacturing defects, damages to the mattress prior to its shipping, and any indentations over 1.5”. However, this warranty does not cover standard wear and tear. Also, be sure to keep your SweetNight bed on a proper surface, since the Limited Warranty does not cover sagging from misuse either.
Trial Period & Returns
If you’ve bought the SweetNight mattress but aren’t sure you want to keep it, you can test out the bed for 100 nights. During those 100 nights, you can return your Whisper bed at any time for a full refund.
Addressing SweetNight Whisper Mattress Complaints
Lack of pressure relief
Several buyers of the SweetNight Whisper have complained about feeling unwanted pressure while on this bed, and even some pain. Specifically, several lightweight side sleepers have cited pain in their hips and and shoulders.
In the Nerd Lab, we also found a similar issue with lighter sleepers experiencing a pressure build-up on the Whisper, even on the soft side. Overall, although this bed is soft enough for side sleepers, pressure may still be an issue for lighter sleepers.
Poor temperature control
Also, some customers complained that the SweetNight Whisper slept uncomfortably hot. They also described that the mattress would continue to heat up throughout the night. During our own tests in the Nerd Lab, we also found the SweetNight lacked cooling, which is typical of a foam mattress, despite its cooling gel-infused foam comfort layers.

SweetNight claims that the Whisper mattress is ready to sleep on within six hours of unboxing it; however, the company also recommends waiting 72 hours for the bed to fully expand and complete its off-gassing. We also found that this mattress takes longer than usual to fully expand.
Is the SweetNight Whisper Mattress Non-Toxic?
Yes. The company states that their Whisper mattress is eco-friendly in addition to being OEKO-TEX and CertiPUR-US-certified, meaning it contains no environmentally unsafe or unhealthy chemicals. For shoppers concerned about off-gassing, the Whisper is emission-free, and any off-gassing should dissipate within three days of unboxing.
What Frame Should I Use For the Whisper Mattress?
