The Tempur-Contour Supreme is the firmest mattress Tempur-Pedic offers, and it’s an ideal choice for back and stomach sleepers with a large budget who enjoy very firm sleeping surfaces.
*Note* This mattress has been discontinued by Tempur-Pedic. It’s still available at some retailers for those interested, but we also provide comparable alternatives below.
Our Verdict: The Tempur-Contour Supreme is the firmest of Tempur-Pedic’s Contour collection, and it’s also the most firm mattress offered by the company. This mattress certainly isn’t for every body type and sleeping position, but it serves those it’s designed for very well.
Back and stomach sleepers who enjoy a firm sleeping surface and heavyweight individuals who need additional support but appreciate the contouring of memory foam should enjoy this mattress. Tempur-Pedic has since discontinued this mattress, but you can still find it at select retailers. We offer comparable alternatives from both Tempur-Pedic and other brands.
The Temper-Contour Supreme, prior to being discontinued by the company, was Tempur-Pedic’s firmest mattress. It offers a supportive and durable sleeping surface for two niche sleeper types: those who love a very firm mattress and those who sleep on their backs or stomachs and are heavyweight.

It also sleeps cooler than most all-foam mattresses, providing some relief for heavyweight individuals who tend to sleep hot at night. The only downside of the Tempur-Contour Supreme is that it may be challenging to find in the size you need, as Tempur-Pedic no longer carries this model. In this mattress review we will cover the highlights and construction of the the Tempur-Contour Supreme to determine if it will support your needs and sleep style.
Third-party retailers like Costco, Amazon and others outlined in this article may have availability if you decide this is the best new mattress for you.

The Tempur-Contour Supreme is an all-foam mattress from Tempur-Pedic, an extra firm mattress from the Contour collection.
The best cooling mattresses have systems that wick away heat from the body and increase airflow. Sometimes memory foam mattresses can trap heat against the body but Tempur-Pedic works to provide a more breathable mattress that circulates air. This Tempur-Pedic mattress includes the signature SmartClimate System, built with an innovative two layer construction that helps you sleep cool. The top layer includes fibers to draw moisture away and the inner cover is cool to the touch.
As an extra-firm mattress, the Tempur-Contour Supreme allows little to no sinking regardless of your bodyweight. The top layer of memory foam is roughly 1” thick, providing some give but not enough for a deep contour. The Tempur-Contour will certainly feel dense and firm but will still provide some of the signature contouring and memory foam comfort that Tempur-Pedic is known for. However, if you’re looking for the deep sinking, deep contouring memory foam feel you’ve experienced on other Tempur-Pedic models, this probably isn’t your best pick.
Tempur material will help distribute weight evenly across the mattress and the supportive base layer will provide edge support, helping couples maximize the space they can sleep on the mattress. However, because the mattress is so firm, it will not be able to comfortably accommodate all sleeping styles and weights.
Lighter couples or side sleepers will not find enough cradling and comfort to softly contour around their bodies. However, the dense and firm structure of the mattress will provide motion isolation. This way partners can change positions without transferring motion to the other person in the bed.

Back Sleepers: Back sleepers who prefer an extra firm surface will love this bed’s even, supportive feel. It distributes bodyweight well across the mattress and you shouldn’t feel any sinking in the hips or shoulders. While this mattress is supportive enough for back sleepers of any body type, it’s best for heavyweight and average weight sleepers, as lightweight back sleepers may not feel any contouring in the low back on this bed.

Stomach Sleepers: Like the best mattresses for stomach sleepers, the Tempur-Pedic Contour Supreme’s extra firm feel will keep your midsection from sinking, which can result in lower back and hip pain. We recommend pairing this mattress with a pillow to prevent added neck strain.
Side Sleepers: If you’re a dedicated side sleeper, we don’t recommend this mattress. Its comfort layer is simply too thin (~1”) to provide the give you need where your body experiences the most pressure: the hips and shoulders. Consider a medium or soft memory foam mattress, depending on your weight and feel preferences.

Combination Sleepers: Combination sleepers sleep in more than one position throughout the night, so the best mattresses for combination sleepers should choose a mattress that’s comfortable in the positions they shift to most often. We don’t recommend this bed for most combination sleepers because it’s simply too firm to provide contouring in the side sleeping position.
It also has a relatively unresponsive surface, which may make changing positions more difficult throughout the night. If you’re a combination sleeper who spends the majority of time on your back or stomach and enjoy a very firm feel, this bed could work for you.
The Tempur-Contour Supreme is 11.5” tall. It has a removable, washable EasyRefresh top cover. The cover is designed with Tempur-Pedic’s SmartClimate System and includes a top cover to draw moisture away and an inner cover to provide cooling comfort. The stretch knit design of the cover is very thin, which helps keep the bed breathable and allows the top layers of the mattress to conform to the body more easily.
The top foam layer of the mattress is 1.2” of TEMPUR-HD comfort foam, a firm tempur material that is durable, relatively contouring for its firmness setting, and reduces motion transfer. Back support is provided through the support layer, which is a solid piece of polyfoam. This base layer promotes durability, reduces motion transfer for couples and is fully adjustable base friendly.

Tempur-Pedic mattresses are shipped free and come with White Glove Delivery, which means the company will deliver the mattress, set it up inside your home and remove your old mattress and box spring. White Glove Delivery is only available in the contiguous United States. If you live in Hawaii or Alaska, you’ll be asked to pay a $600 surcharge for delivery. Most orders are delivered within two weeks, and expedited shipping is available for an added fee.
Tempur-Pedic offers a 90-night sleep trial with the purchase of any mattress, which allows you to test the mattress and determine if it’s the right fit for your body and space. If you decide you don’t want your mattress, you can return it after a 30 night break-in period.
This Tempur-Pedic mattress is backed by the company’s 10-year limited warranty. This warranty covers defects with a full replacement. Using a base or bed frame that isn’t suitable for the mattress can void the warranty.
The Contour Supreme is no longer available directly through Tempur-Pedic, but some third-party retailers still sell this mattress in select sizes. These include Amazon.com, Costco and Sears. We recommend calling local brick-and-mortar mattress stores to check availability.
The Saatva is a modern innerspring mattress that comes in three firmness settings (4/10, 6/10, 7.5/10) and two heights (11.5”, 14.5”). The Firm setting in the 11.5” height is most similar to the Tempur-Contour Supreme, offering a modest amount of contouring and sufficient support for heavyweight back and stomach sleepers.
Similar to Tempur-Pedic, Saatva offers free White Glove Delivery with mattress purchase to all customers in the contiguous U.S. The mattress is backed by a 120-night sleep trial and a 15-year warranty, yet it costs less than the Tempur-Pedic Contour Supreme.

Shoppers who are drawn to Tempur-Pedic for its well-known soft, deep contouring feel, (which is lacking in the Supreme) may consider the more affordable Puffy Mattress. Released in 2017, the Puffy Mattress is Puffy’s flagship product and is an all-foam mattress in a medium firmness level that offers excellent pressure relief.
Lightweight sleepers, side sleepers, and sleepers who enjoy the feeling of sleeping “in” their mattress rather than “on” it will love the bed’s cradling feel, which hugs the body like you’d expect memory foam to while providing support for the spine through a polyfoam base layer. It’s backed by a 101-night sleep trial, comes with free shipping and is a good value. All sizes are sold for less than $1,400, and the brand frequently offers discount codes and promotions through its website.

Heavyweight sleepers who need support but still find the Tempur-Pedic Contour Supreme too firm for their preferences should consider the DreamCloud. Designed for larger body types, the DreamCloud is a medium-firm hybrid mattress made from innerspring coils, high-density foam, and foam comfort layers.

The pocketed coils at the center of the DreamCloud will provide just as much support as the Contour Supreme while allowing more airflow for hot sleepers, and it mimics the feel of the Supreme by not having the “hugging” sensation found in most memory foam mattresses.
You’ll find yourself sleeping “on” this mattress regardless of your weight, but the top layer has a plush feel to offer comfort and balance out the firmness of the firmer layers underneath. The DreamCloud is more affordable than the Tempur-Pedic and comes with generous product policies, including a 365-night sleep trial, a Lifetime warranty and free shipping anywhere in the United States.

The Tempur-Contour Supreme is designed for a specific sleeper type. It’s Tempur-Pedic’s answer to sleepers who are looking for the best mattress that’s very firm and breathable yet won’t make you feel like you’re sleeping on cement.
Its comfort layer is thin enough to allow sleepers’ bodies to come into contact with the firm center of the mattress almost immediately while giving just enough contour to make the experience comfortable and healthy for the spine. If you’re a pure back sleeper or side sleeper, love firm beds, and have a sizable budget for a new mattress, you may find just what you’re looking for in the Tempur-Contour.
