How Does the Amerisleep Organica Mattress Feel?

Firmness

Firmness is a key factor in choosing the right mattress. Here at Mattress Nerd, we rate firmness on a scale from 1 to 10, with 1 being super-duper soft and 10 being firmer than firm. We rated the Amerisleep Organica at 6.5/10, which is medium-firm. This is also sometimes called luxury-firm or the universal comfort level.

Medium-firm mattresses will be comfortable for a wide range of sleepers. It’ll feel like a true medium-firm for average-weight sleepers, who weigh between 130 to 230 pounds. For lightweight sleepers, under 130 pounds, it’ll feel a little firmer, and for heavyweight sleepers, over 230 pounds, it’ll feel a little softer. This is just because of how deeply you sink into your mattress based on your weight.

Temperature

Temperature regulation can be the difference between a restful night of sleep and waking in a hot sweat, unable to fall back asleep. So if you’re a hot sleeper, someone whose body temperature runs especially warm while they sleep, you’ll definitely want to pay attention to how your mattress regulates temperature.

The Amerisleep Organica is a really good cooling mattress, primarily due to it’s latex and innerspring coil construction. Latex is a naturally cooling material and having coils in the bed allows more room for airflow, which prevents overheating. There are also some perforations in the top layer that allow for even more airflow.

Support

Nobody’s got your back like your mattress, so make sure you pick a good one! To protect your back, you want to pick a mattress that has the right kind of support for you. This can vary from person to person based on your size, sleeping position, and lifestyle, but everyone should look for a bed that maintains their spinal alignment and relieves pressure.

Another important support consideration is edge support, which is essentially how the perimeter of the bed bears weight. If you like to sit or sleep along the edge of your bed, strong edge support is important. The Amerisleep Organica has very sturdy edge support, which is also an indicator of durability.

Back Sleepers

Back sleepers are the easiest to please of the different sleeping positions. If you sleep on your back, all you need is a supportive mattress that will maintain your spinal alignment. The Amerisleep Organica is a very supportive mattress, because of its latex and coil construction, so it should work well for lightweight, average-weight, and heavyweight sleepers alike. For more options, see our best mattresses for back sleepers.

Stomach Sleepers

If you sleep primarily on your stomach, you will want a mattress that is firm and supportive enough to keep your hips elevated and maintain your spinal alignment. The Amerisleep Organica should be good for lightweight to average-weight stomach sleepers because it is medium-firm and very supportive, but heavyweight stomach sleepers will want something firmer. For more options, see our best mattresses for stomach sleepers.

Side Sleepers

The best mattress for side sleepers is one that will cushion and relieve pressure on their sensitive joints, as well as maintain their spinal alignment. For average-weight to heavyweight side sleepers, the Amerisleep Organica should be okay. It didn’t have the best pressure relief, so if you have sensitive joints it might not work. For lightweight side sleepers, the Amerisleep Organica is likely too firm.

Combination Sleepers

Combination sleepers are those who change between positions throughout the night. Aside from considering which positions they switch between primarily, combination sleepers want to consider how responsive a bed is.

Because of the bouncy nature of latex, the Amerisleep Organica is a very responsive mattress, so it’ll be very easy for lightweight, average-weight, and heavyweight combination sleepers to switch up their position. For more options, see our best mattresses for combination sleepers.

Body Type: BACK SLEEPERS STOMACH SLEEPERS SIDE SLEEPERS
Lightweight (< 130 lbs):  5 5 2
Average weight (130 – 230 lbs): 5 5 3
Heavyweight (> 230 lbs):  5 3 3

1 = Very poor, 2 = Not good, 3 = Fair, 4 = Good, 5 = Excellent

Does It Fit Your Lifestyle?

Couples

If you sleep with a partner, there are a few things you’ll want to consider when shopping for a mattress. You want to think about you and your partner’s sleeping positions and size, but it’s also important to consider motion isolation, edge support, and responsiveness to pick a good mattress for couples.

Motion isolation refers to how well a mattress can trap motion at the source, instead of letting it spread across the mattress. Good motion isolation can prevent your partner’s motions from waking you up at night. The Amerisleep Organica has good motion isolation, especially considering it has coils in its construction.

Edge support is important for couples so that you can use the entire surface of your bed without feeling like you’re going to fall off the edge. The Amerisleep Organica has really good edge support, so if you sleep on a smaller mattress, like a Full or Queen size, or if you just need some space from your partner, this mattress will work really well for you.

Finally, responsiveness is important for a good mattress for sex. Responsiveness will allow you to move around easily on top of your mattress and being made with naturally-bouncy latex, the Amerisleep Organica is very responsive.

Eco-conscious Shoppers

Many people look for organic mattresses to ensure they are sleeping on healthy and safe materials or to try to shop more sustainably. The Amerisleep Organica is marketed as an organic mattress, so how does it stack up?

The cover is made with GOTS certified organic cotton, which is naturally breathable. The mattress also uses wool, which is a natural fiber, and natural Talalay latex. These materials will be beneficial to anyone with allergies and sensitivities, except for those with latex allergies. Amerisleep recommends that you do not sleep on the Amerisleep Organica if you are allergic to latex.

How Do the Policies Measure Up?

Shipping & Unboxing

Amerisleep offers free shipping within the contiguous United States. Mattresses should ship within five to seven business days with FedEx, and once shipped, should be delivered within seven days. Unfortunately, Amerisleep does not ship to Hawaii, Alaska, or other countries. However, if you live in one of these places and still want to purchase one of their beds, Amerisleep will ship it to a freight forwarder if the customer arranges it.

Amerisleep currently does not offer white glove delivery service, which some brands offer to set up your mattress and haul away your old one.

The Amerisleep Organica mattress arrives compressed in a box. All you have to do is open the box, unroll the mattress, and cut open the packaging. It took our team about two minutes to unbox the mattress, and it was pretty simple. But be aware that this mattress is pretty heavy, so be sure to grab a friend to help you with set up.

Warranty

Having a warranty on your mattress can give you some peace of mind that you’ll be able to have your mattress fixed if any issues with it arise. Amerisleep offers a 20-year warranty that’s split into two 10 year periods.

The first 10 years are a full-replacement warranty. During this period, if there are any defects in the mattress, such as cracks or a faulty zipper, Amerisleep will replace or repair your mattress.

The second 10 years are a prorated warranty, which means that if there are any defects, Amerisleep will replace the mattress for 50 percent of the original purchase price. You’d also be responsible for shipping costs on the replacement.

The total 20 year period starts from the date of purchase and is only valid if the mattress is owned by the original purchaser. To learn more about what’s covered and what isn’t, check out our Amerisleep warranty breakdown.

Trial Period & Returns

If you’re thinking, “I can barely buy clothes online without trying them on. How am I supposed to buy a mattress without ever testing it out?”, don’t worry. That’s what a sleep trial is for! Most online mattress brands offer a sleep trial period that allows you to test your new mattress out at home, by actually sleeping on it, so you can decide if it’s right for you.

Amerisleep offers a 100-night sleep trial period that begins the day your mattress arrives. They require you to sleep on the mattress for at least 30 nights before returning, but after that point, you can return your mattress at any time during those 100 nights. The reason they ask you to try it for 30 days is because it can take time to adjust to a new mattress, especially if you’ve been sleeping on a bad one.

If you decide to return your Amerisleep Organica, all you have to do is contact Amerisleep, and they will refund your purchase. They’ll also coordinate the removal of your mattress, and if you want, they’ll donate your mattress to a local charity so it doesn’t go to waste.

  • Cooling: Latex is a cooling material, and the innerspring coils will promote airflow within the mattress.
  • Natural Materials: The latex, wool, and cotton in the Amerisleep Organica are all natural, which is great for eco-conscious shoppers or people with allergies.

Complaints

  • Just Okay Pressure Relief: We rated the pressure relief on this bed at 3/5, which is good but not the best for side sleepers or who have sensitive joints.
  • Price: The Amerisleep Organica has a fairly high price tag, so it’s not the best option for budget shoppers.
  • Not Recommended for Latex Allergies: This is fairly niche, but if you have a latex allergy, Amerisleep does not recommend sleeping on this bed in case of an allergic reaction. This is also an important consideration if you put the mattress in a guest bedroom or child’s bedroom.

What’s the Bottom Line?

The Amerisleep Organica is a medium-firm, supportive mattress with a latex and coil construction. It’s a great mattress for back sleepers and some stomach sleepers, but not the best for side sleepers who need pressure relief.

It’s a good mattress for couples, because of its strong edge support, motion isolation, and responsiveness. The Amerisleep Organica is also a good bed for eco-conscious shoppers and sleepers with allergies who want natural materials in their mattress. Hot sleepers will also enjoy the Amerisleep Organica for the latex’s naturally cooling effects.
