If you’re considering an all-foam mattress, don’t miss this review of the luxury Amerisleep AS3. It promises relief for active individuals and a balanced feel, but how does it stack up?
Our Verdict: The Amerisleep AS3 is the company’s best selling model that was designed to accommodate all sleeping positions, weights, and lifestyles. Thanks to the Celliant cover that helps promote recovery, it’s specifically attractive to active people. It also minimizes motion transfer, making it a great option for couples who like a medium-firm foam mattress.

Amerisleep is a popular bed-in-a-box company that’s based in the U.S. and was established in 2007. The mattress brand offers five different models that vary in firmness setting and style (all-foam and hybrid). In this review, I’m focusing on the Amerisleep AS3, one of the brand’s most popular mattresses.
The AS3 is one of Amerisleep’s memory foam mattresses. It’s medium in firmness and is constructed with a memory foam comfort layer, a transitional layer of high-density polyfoam, and a support layer of high-density polyfoam. The AS3 also comes in a hybrid version that features a pocketed coil support layer instead of foam. Both models are 12 inches thick.
Both styles of the AS3 have many benefits, including close conforming, motion isolation for couples, and great durability. The bed’s cover also sets it apart from the crowd. It’s made from a blend of Celliant fabric, polyester, and spandex. The Celliant helps promote recovery via increased tissue oxygenation and circulation, body temperature regulation, and pain alleviation.
The AS3 and AS3 hybrid both cradle the body and make it feel like you’re sleeping “in” the mattress rather than “on” it. Both versions of the mattress are best for people who are lightweight or average weight, and we’ll explain why in our review below.
As a luxury mattress, the Amerisleep AS3 has many qualities that help it stand out from the crowd. These are the highlights I think are most important to consider:
Celliant Blend Cover Promotes Recovery
Versatile Firmness that’s Comfortable and Supportive
Accommodates all Sleeping Positions/Styles
Back | Stomach | Side |
✅Great support in hips and lower back
✅Little to no sagging for lightweight to average weight sleepers
|
✅Adequate support for light and average weight
❌Heavy sleepers will have pressure on lower back and hips |
✅Cushioning in the hips & shoulders
❌ Heavier sleepers could experience too much sinking |
Back Sleepers
Back sleepers need support in their hips and shoulders to prevent sagging, and the AS3’s dense transitional and support layer prevents this. Those in the lightweight category will experience no sagging at all, and average weight sleepers may experience slight sagging on the memory foam version.
We don’t recommend the AS3 hybrid or AS3 all-foam for heavyweight back sleepers, but average weight sleepers who feel uncomfortable on the all-foam version should find adequate support from the spring support system in the hybrid version. For other mattresses that are supportive and may work for larger back sleepers, check out our best mattresses for back sleepers.
Stomach Sleepers
My review of the Amerisleep AS3 for stomach sleepers is very similar to my review for back sleepers. If you’re lightweight, you’ll sleep just fine and feel supported on either version of the AS3. If you’re average weight, you may want to consider the hybrid AS3, whose coil system can discourage sagging around the lower back and hips.
I don’t recommend the AS3 hybrid or AS3 all-foam for heavyweight stomach sleepers, as the bed simply isn’t constructed to support individuals or couples of that size. If you are a stomach sleeper that needs the hips lifted and spine supported, see our picks on the best mattress for stomach sleepers.
Side Sleepers
Side sleepers in the average weight and lightweight categories will find adequate cushioning for the hips and shoulders in this bed. The top layer of memory foam cradles the body to relieve pressure points, while the high-density polyfoam transitional layer and support layer prevents the spine from sagging too much in any area.
The result is the feeling of sleeping “in” the mattress without sinking too much. Keep in mind that the Amerifoam AS3 hybrid version may be slightly more responsive, but I think it has a very similar feel to the Amerifoam AS3 all-foam mattress because they share the same top memory foam layer.

The Amerisleep AS3 mattress has a medium-firmness level, which corresponds to 5.5 on a scale of 1 to 10. Beds with a medium feel tend to be highly versatile, balancing a mix of pressure-relieving conforming with support. The AS3 is no exception to this rule.
The AS3 all-foam mattress and the AS3 hybrid mattress share the 5.5 firmness level and therefore have a similar feel. Their memory foam comfort layers are identical in height and materials. However, the pocketed coil base layer in the hybrid version makes the AS3 hybrid a little more responsive (bouncy) and supportive than the AS3 all-foam bed. Both mattresses will feel more like you’re sleeping “in” them rather than “on” them. The best mattress for combination sleepers or heavier sleepers may be a firmer mattress with additional support layers or coils to keep spines aligned.
The Amerisleep AS3 all-foam bed is a luxury mattress that’s constructed with pressure-relieving, high-quality memory foam, and dense, supportive base materials. The foams are encased in a Celliant blend cover that’s designed to promote recovery for active individuals. Keep in mind that the AS3 hybrid has a layer of pocketed coils in place of the polyfoam bottom layer described below.
All AS3 beds ship free to the contiguous U.S. and typically arrive within 3 to 5 business days. Amerisleep beds ship as a bed-in-a-box, which means they’ll be compressed and rolled when they arrive at your home.
After the mandatory 30-night break-in period, you can return your AS3 mattress for a full refund. If you opt for this, the company will arrange a courier to pick up the mattress from your home. You’ll also have the option to exchange the mattress for a firmer or softer Amerisleep model.
The AS3 comes with Amerisleep’s 100-night sleep trial, which allows sleepers to test out the bed and decide if it’s right for them. A 30-night break-in period is required, which means that you must wait at least 30 nights before qualifying for a free return or exchange.
Amerisleep will cover all costs associated with returning your mattress during this trial period, and you’ll receive a full refund if you decide it isn’t the right fit. Keep in mind that if you select the wrong size mattress, you won’t be eligible for a return or exchange.
The AS3 and AS3 Hybrid come with a 20-year warranty. This warranty is partially prorated, which means that coverage is non-prorated during the first 10 years. Non-prorated warranties allow sleepers to have the bed replaced at no extra cost.
During the last 10 years of the warranty, you’ll be required to pay 50% of the original mattress price if you find a defect. The warranty covers sagging, indentations, and other defects, but it’s only eligible if you have proper foundational support.
Amerisleep beds are available on the Amerisleep website and on Amazon.com. Amerisleep also operates brick-and-mortar stores in Texas, Colorado, Oregon, and Arizona.

Mattress Nerd is giving the Amerisleep AS3 a 4.7/5. Overall, I really like the thoughtfulness that was put into the Amerisleep AS3 construction, and I think the fact that it’s the company’s best selling model speaks to its versatility and ability to suit all sleeping styles and most body types. The Celliant cover is a great plus for active individuals and athletes. Like most all-foam beds, it’s also a great pick for couples who need to limit motion transfer.
The only downside to this bed is that it’s in the higher price range for an all-foam model. There are hundreds of other high-performing memory foam beds on the market that are much more affordable, but if you’re not concerned about price and want a high-quality memory foam bed that’s been rated well by thousands of other customers, the Amerisleep AS3 may be the right option for you.
