Amerisleep Mattress Reviews

Don’t let the clinical names of the Amerisleep models––the “AS1” all the way to “AS5”––scare you . This line of mattresses is designed to include a firmness level and a pressure support that works for almost every type of sleeper.

Since 2007, Amerisleep has  worked to find eco-conscious ways to manufacture foam mattresses that customers can sleep on comfortably and safely. They’ve created five memory foam mattress models and three hybrid models, all of which are made with eco-friendly, plant-based materials and manufactured in the USA.

The Amerisleep AS mattress line consists of a wide selection of memory-foam and hybrid mattress models that are constructed with similar materials but differ in thickness, firmness and feel. The Amerisleep line ranges from firm to plush. In fact, we’d venture to say Amerisleep offers a mattress for every type of sleeper. While the all-foam models might not work for those who sleep exceptionally hot––and we’d never recommend the soft AS5 for a back or stomach sleeper––the sheer variety of the Amerisleep line is worth exploring.

Amerisleep Mattress Models

The AS1

Who is the AS1 Best For?

  • Back sleepers
  • Stomach sleepers
  • Those looking for a great firm mattress

Price Range$849-$1,599

What makes the AS1 Mattress Stand Out?

The firmest and least expensive of the Amerisleep mattresses, the AS1 is a great choice for sleepers who prefer a supportive sleep surface.

The AS1 mattress is the firmest of the Amerisleep models. Though some Amerisleep models are available in hybrid versions as well as in an all-foam construction, the AS1 is only available in an all-foam version. Because it includes so many layers of foam, it may not be the best for those who sleep exceptionally hot and need a heat-dissipating bed. Still, the firmness level of the AS1 will be enough to keep the hips elevated and achieve spinal alignment for many stomach sleepers.

The AS2

Who is the AS2 Mattress Best For?

  • Back sleepers
  • Stomach sleepers
  • Those who tend to sleep hot

Price Range: $999-$2498

What makes the AS2 Mattress Stand Out?

Still firm but slightly softer than the AS1, the AS2 is a medium-firm foam mattress that’s a great option for back and stomach sleepers.

The AS2 mattress is just a bit less firm than the AS1. Its medium-firm feel is still great for back and stomach sleepers and, unlike the firmest AS1, the AS2 is available in a hybrid version that includes individually-pocketed coils designed for targeted support.

Because the back and torso area is typically the heaviest part of the body, the AS2 hybrid coils offer more support in that area. Both the all-foam and the hybrid AS2 include Bio-Pur foam that is responsive, breathable and made with plant-based oils. Still, the hybrid version of the AS2 will be the best for hot sleepers.

The AS3

Who is the AS3 Mattress Best For?

  • Side sleepers
  • Combination sleepers who change sleep positions
  • Couples

Price Range$1,099-$2,698

What makes the AS3 Mattress Stand Out?

The AS3 model, available in an all-foam and hybrid version, has medium firmness level that will work for side and combination sleepers, couples who need great motion isolation to sleep peacefully throughout the night. On the other hand, the individually-wrapped coils in the AS3 hybrid are much better than foam at ensuring breathability and airflow.

The AS4

Who is the AS4 Mattress Best For?

  • Hot sleepers who still want an all-foam bed
  • Side sleepers
  • Those looking for a softer mattress

Price Range: $1,399-$2,698

What makes the AS4 Mattress Stand Out?

The AS4 is Amerisleep’s flagship model. The all-foam bed has a medium-soft feel that is best for side sleepers and anyone who likes a softer mattress.

Though the AS4 won’t work for stomach sleepers who need the support of a firmer mattress, it’s great for those who want an all-foam bed that cradles delicate pressure points. Amerisleep has designed this bed with Bio-Pur foam in the top comfort layer and a HIVE transition layer underneath, which offers zoned support for the head, back and legs while allowing the hips and shoulders more soft comfort. Because of the high-quality pressure relief of this mattress, we especially recommend the AS4 for side sleepers suffering from arthritis.

The AS5

Who is the AS5 Mattress Best For?

  • Those looking for a luxuriously soft bed
  • Side sleepers
  • Lightweight combination sleepers

Price Range: $1,799-$4,098

What makes the AS4 Mattress Stand Out?

The most expensive and luxurious of the Amerisleep mattress line, the AS5 is a premium, plush memory foam mattress that side sleepers will love.

If you’re looking for a soft bed with a luxury feel, this 14” tall mattress will fit the bill. Compared to the rest of the Amerisleep line, this bed is the tallest and most expensive. It certainly won’t work for back sleepers or stomach sleepers who need a firmer bed for all-night comfort, but the AS5 is the holy grail for side sleepers. Lightweight combination sleepers will get the support they need from the AS5, but we’re a little less certain that average-size and plus-size combination sleepers will find enough spinal support in the AS5.

Stomach Sleeper Lightweight

Here at Mattress Nerd, we classify lightweight sleepers as weighing < 130 lbs., while average-weight sleepers are between 130-230 lbs. and heavyweight sleepers weigh over 230 lbs.

Of course, choosing the perfect mattress is a subjective experience, and a mattress may sound perfect on paper until you spend a few nights sleeping on it for yourself. But the Amerisleep line is designed to suit back, stomach, side and combination sleepers alike with the AS1 to AS5 models. Heavy people and stomach sleepers should love the firm AS1 and AS2, while side sleepers will find soft and cradling comfort in the AS4 and AS5. The AS3 offers “in between” firmness that’s great for combination sleepers who spend time in every position throughout the night.

Other Considerations: Cooling, Back Pain and Couples

If you’re looking for a mattress that offers the ultimate cooling comfort, the Amerisleep hybrid models will work much better for you than the all-foam beds from Amerisleep. Even though the all-foam models are made with cooling and responsive Bio-Pur foam, the individually wrapped coils in the Amerisleep hybrids offer optimal airflow. The AS2, AS3 and AS5 are all offered in hybrid models, so we’d recommend choosing one of the three if you sleep hot

If you sleep with a partner who tosses and turns at night, you know firsthand the importance of great motion isolation in a mattress. The all-foam versions of the Amerisleep mattresses will be the best at achieving motion isolation, although the hybrid versions won’t be bad at motion isolation either. Fortunately, every model in the Amerisleep line is available in an all-foam construction for optimal motion isolation: and a more restful night.

Back pain isn’t fun: And all too often, it’s caused by an inferior mattress. The most important consideration for back pain is to find a mattress that supports spinal alignment and keeps your back in its natural curve all night long. If you’re a side sleeper, choose a softer version of the Amerisleep mattress that allows your hips and shoulders to sink into the bed. If you’re a back sleeper, you’ll need a firmer bed to keep your hips from sinking in too far.

How Construction Impacts The Feel of the Mattress

The Amerisleep line of mattresses comes in five firmness levels in an attempt to appeal to every type of sleep position. With so many options, they really do have something workable for most sleepers on the hunt for a new sleep experience. Because every version of the Amerisleep mattress uses Bio-Pur foam instead of traditional memory foam, the beds should feel responsive and allow for easy movement. The hybrid versions of the Amerisleep beds earn top marks in durability because of the metal coils used in their construction, but each bed is protected by a 20-year warranty.

Amerisleep Mattress Warranty, Shipping & Sleep Trial & Returns

Warranty

For all its mattresses, Amerisleep offers a 20-year warranty that covers issues arising from how the mattress was built or the materials used to build it. The warranty only protects the original buyer of the Amerisleep mattress, not those who purchased it secondhand. It covers visible sagging in the mattress greater than ¾ inch, but not normal wear and tear.

Be sure to use a strong, flat foundation like a slatted bed frame to maintain warranty coverage. If you choose to use a box spring with your Amerisleep mattress, you’ll have to use a .75” piece of moisture-resistant plywood between the mattress and box spring In order to comply with the terms of the warranty.

If you have to make a warranty claim within the first 10 years, your entire purchase will be covered and Amerisleep will either repair or replace the mattress for free. However, Amerisleep switches to a prorated warranty for the last 10 years of coverage. If something goes awry with the mattress in the second 10 years, you’ll have to pay 50 percent of the original purchase price to replace the mattress. You’ll also pay for the shipping both ways.

Shipping and Setup

Amerisleep mattresses are compressed into eco-friendly boxes and shipped completely free to addresses within the lower 48 states. They ship in about 3-5 working days via FedEx with curbside delivery. You’ll need to let your new mattress expand for at least 4-6 hours before sleeping in it, and it could take up to 24 hours to fully re-inflate.

Amerisleep mattresses are available to purchase online on the company website, on Amazon, and at retail stores in select cities in Arizona, Oregon, Colorado, and Texas.

Sleep Trial and Returns

All Amerisleep mattresses come with a 100-night trial period. If you decide the mattress isn’t for you during that trial, you can exchange it for a different Amerisleep model or ask for a full refund.

If you choose to return or exchange the bed, Amerisleep will arrange a time to fetch the mattress from you. Amerisleep asks that you sleep in your new bed for at least 30 days before asking for a return. Here at Mattress Nerd, we agree with that policy. After all, it takes about 30 days for your body to adjust to a new sleep surface.

Amerisleep FAQs

Does Amerisleep offer financing for mattress purchases?

At this point, Amerisleep doesn’t offer financing for mattress purchases. They accept most debit and credit cards as well as bank transfers.

Can Amerisleep mattresses be placed on a box spring?

Yes, all Amerisleep mattresses can be placed on a box spring. Still, the company recommends placing a .75” piece of moisture-resistant plywood between the box spring and mattress. You run the risk of voiding the warranty if you use a box spring without the piece of plywood for extra support.

How long does it take for Amerisleep mattresses to be delivered?

Amerisleep says that it typically takes 3 to 5 business days to ship each mattress. It should arrive at your doorstep after another 1 to 5 days.
