Mold in my mattress is probably the scariest thing I can think of, and it gets even more terrifying for those with a mold allergy. Avoid this fright altogether with the Saatva Latex Hybrid. Naturally sourced latex foam is naturally mold-resistant, dust-mite resistant, and hypoallergenic, and Saatva is packed with it.
The bed contains two layers of latex foam over a bed of zoned steel coils for perfect body alignment. The cover is treated with an antimicrobial called Guardin™, which the brand claims inhibits the growth of mold, mildew, and bacteria—ideal for those with allergies. The materials also work well for back sleepers, stomach sleepers, and hot sleepers.
As for policies, this mattress ships for free, comes with free white glove delivery and old mattress removal, a full-year sleep trial, and a Lifetime warranty.

Latex is a great material because it’s naturally resistant to a lot of allergens. But what if you’re allergic to latex? You shouldn’t get an allergic reaction to latex mattresses, but if you want to be super safe, we suggest the Helix Midnight mattress.
The Helix Midnight mattress is your traditional hybrid bed: it’s made with medium-firm foams for universal comfort and pocketed coils for full body support. The materials are also CertiPUR-US certified, so they contain no harmful chemicals that could trigger allergies, especially the hypoallergenic cover.
The Midnight works best for side sleepers, couples, and just being an all-around great value buy. It works for a wide variety of people and it falls under $1,000 for a Queen. Try this bed out for 100-nights and enjoy free shipping, free returns, and a 10-year warranty.
What our testers say: “Helix gives you the option to choose between two mattress covers, a soft knit cover and a cooling cover—both are hypoallergenic. We tested the soft knit cover and experienced no allergic reactions.” – Loren, Lead Mattress Reviewers

Have you ever seen a dust mite up close? It sends shivers down my spine. Even if you don’t have a dust mite allergy, you should consider the Nolah Natural because…gross. It’s made with, you guessed it, latex foam, which is naturally dust mite resistant.
Not only is this bed hypoallergenic, but it’s made with Zoned Support coils, and organic cotton cover, GOTS certified wool, and cushioning talalay latex. This combo of materials makes it a great option for back sleepers, combo sleepers, and hot sleepers. You can try this bed out for 120 nights and that’s followed by a Lifetime warranty.
What our testers say: “When we cut into Nolah, we noticed the top layer of latex has a medium firmness level that’s soft, yet dense. It’s processed using the Talalay method, which essentially means that it’s more cushioning than synthetically made latex or latex processed using the Dunlop method.” – Rachael, Editor & Mattress Tester

There’s nothing better than the cozy cradle of a memory foam mattress. What’s even better is having a cozy, cradling mattress that won’t cause an allergy flare up. We chose the Layla Foam Mattress.
Layla is a flippable memory foam mattress with a medium-soft side and a medium-firm side. All you have to do is flip to find your perfect feel, so we love this bed for couples and side and back sleepers. But the real star in this mattress is copper. It’s infused in both the cover and the comfort foam layers. The brand claims this creates an antimicrobial sandwich that helps keep bacteria away.
Best yet, this bed falls under $1,000 for a Queen, it ships free, comes with a 120-night sleep trial, and a Lifetime warranty.
What our testers say: “When we unzipped Layla’s cover and took a look at the mattress layers in our lab, we could easily see the shiny copper flecks in this foam level; those are the key to the mattress’s antimicrobial properties. Plus, you can remove and wash the mattress cover.” – Loren, Lead Mattress Tester

A hypoallergenic mattress is a bed made with materials that are resistant to common allergens that usually live in mattresses, such as dust mites, mold, and bacteria. These beds typically feature natural and organic materials, like latex foam, and are treated with an antimicrobial for a cleaner, hypoallergenic sleep surface.
This buyer’s guide will go over exactly what you should look for in a mattress if you suffer from allergies.
The type of mattress you choose will not only affect your level of comfort and support, but whether the materials inside may affect your allergies. In this section, I’ll go over common types of mattresses and if they’re a good investment for folks that are sensitive to allergens.
Memory foam mattresses are entirely made of foam—from the comfort layers to the support layers. All-foam mattresses are great for those who sleep with a partner because motion doesn’t easily travel across the mattress; they also help relieve pressure for those with aches and pains. Since these beds tend to be pretty dense, they don’t often hold on to allergens, such as dust mites, but they aren’t completely resistant, so we suggest a mattress protector.
Memory foam beds are also a good alternative for those with a latex allergy. We recommend finding a memory foam bed with copper infusions or a hypoallergenic cover to be extra safe.
Mattresses may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of latex, but latex beds are the perfect option for folks with common allergies and are the only beds that can be 100 percent natural and organic. Latex foam is made from the sap of rubber trees, creating a material that is naturally cooling, pressure relieving—and more importantly—resistant to dust mites, mold, and other common allergens.
Buyer beware: Mattresses made with synthetic latex foam are not hypoallergenic as they don’t contain the same properties as naturally derived latex foam. Synthetic latex is cheaper, but you don’t reap all of the benefits.
For a list of our favorite latex beds, check out the best latex mattresses.
Hybrid mattresses typically combine a foam comfort layer and a pocketed coil support core to create a “best of both worlds” mattress—the bounce and support of an innerspring bed with the motion isolating and pressure relieving properties of foam.
When it comes to people with allergies, we recommend going with a latex hybrid bed over a memory foam hybrid due to the naturally hypoallergenic properties. Hybrid mattresses also tend to have covers treated with antimicrobials and are usually built to resist the buildup of mold, mildew, and moisture in the coil layer.
Think about the mattress you slept on growing up, it more than likely was an innerspring bed. These mattresses are less common today and use thin comfort layers over a bed of interconnected, open coils. Innerspring mattresses are not going to be best for allergies: The comfort layers commonly used in innerspring mattresses can be a home for dust mites.
Any brand can claim their mattress is hypoallergenic, but the best way to tell is to check for official certifications. These organizations independently test mattress materials for harmful chemicals, sustainable sourcing, and to make sure they’re actually organic when they claim to be.
Here at Mattress Nerd, we’ve tested and reviewed hundreds of mattresses, and we’ve found that most Queen-sized beds range anywhere from $500 to $3,500 dollars. We consider anything $500 or below to be a cheap mattress, $1,000 or below to be an affordable mattress, and anything over $2,000 to be a luxury buy.
Many quality, hypoallergenic mattresses fall between $1,000 and $2,000 for a Queen, so you can expect to pay about that much. That doesn’t mean there aren’t exceptions, like the DreamFoam Latex, which falls under $1,000 for a Queen.
Now, let’s talk bedding. To keep your bed a mostly “allergen-free zone,” here are our recommendations for mattress accessories.
The best pillows for allergies are made of latex, and if you have a latex or feather allergy, try out a down-alternative pillow. These pillows are filled with fibers with a similar feel to down, but none of the feathers. Ensure you are cleaning your pillow often to keep away dust mites, pollen, or anything else that can live in your bedding. Here’s our guide on how to wash pillows.
Check out my recommendations for the best pillows for allergies.
The Brooklyn Bedding Talalay Latex Pillow is a latex pillow available in high and low loft.
The Nest Bedding Easy Breather Natural Latex pillow works best for back, stomach, and combination sleepers. We recommend it only to petite or average-sized side sleepers. It has tons of breathability and natural cooling features, making it a great option for hot sleepers. The price tag may be high for budget shoppers.
You’ll have a few more options when it comes to sheets. Bamboo and silk sheets are naturally dust mite resistant, but must be laundered delicately. Cotton and tencel sheets are breathable and moisture-wicking, giving bacteria less of a chance to make a home there. Here are my recommendations.
The Cozy Earth bamboo sheets are the softest sheets I’ve ever felt. They’re made entirely from organic and hypoallergenic bamboo viscose, which gives the sheets their silky, airy, and luxurious feel

Sleeping with allergies can be easy on the right mattress. A bed made of latex helps with dust mite, mold, and mildew allergies. A memory foam mattress of memory foam hybrid is a great option for anyone with latex allergies. Make sure you wrap your bed in a mattress protector and keep your bedding clean for an allergen-free bedroom space.
We think the Nolah Natural is the best mattress for a dust mite allergy—it uses organic latex foam, which is naturally dust mite resistant, and breathable organic cotton in the cover. We still suggest using a mattress protector with any bed to reduce the chance of dust mites building up in your bed.
Foam mattresses are a better choice for people who are allergic to latex. Though latex used in mattresses is washed and surrounded by a mattress cover, some people would rather be safe than sorry. A memory foam mattress provides the pressure relief of latex with better motion isolating abilities.
If you’ve had your mattress for a few years, it could be the culprit of your allergy flare-ups. We sleep on our beds night after night, shedding dead skin cells as our mattresses collect them and attract dust mites. Your mattress could be causing your allergies if you sleep with your pet; mattresses collect pet dander as well as mold, mildew, and bacteria over time.
Thus, we suggest getting a new mattress every seven to 10 years at the least.
