Watch our video review of the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow to see how this mattress performed during our extensive testing process. You’ll be able to see our mattress expert, Loren, put this mattress to the test and decide if it performs and meets your expectations.

Casper Wave Hybrid Snow Mattress Firmness & Feel

Casper Wave Hybrid Snow Firmness

We rated the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow a 6/10 on our 1–10 firmness scale, where 1 is super soft and 10 is very firm. This makes the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow a medium-firm mattress, which is one of the most universally comfortable firmnesses.

What Does the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow Mattress Feel Like?

For average-weight sleepers (130–230 lbs), the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow will have a balanced feel that’s both cushioning and supportive. Lightweight sleepers (< 130 lbs) won’t sink as deep into the foam layers, so mattress will feel a little firmer. On the flip side, heavyweight sleepers (>230 lbs) are likely to say this mattress has a medium or medium-soft firmness level. That’s because they’ll sink in more deeply into the top layers of foam.

What Sleeping Position Is Casper Wave Hybrid Snow Mattress Best For?

Body Type: BACK SLEEPERS STOMACH SLEEPERS SIDE SLEEPERS
Lightweight (< 130 lbs):  5 5 2
Average-weight (130–230 lbs): 5 4 4
Heavyweight (> 230 lbs):  3.5 2 5

1 = Very poor, 2 = Not good, 3 = Fair, 4 = Good, 5 = Excellent

Back Sleepers

When shopping for a mattress for back sleepers, the main thing to look for is a mattress that keeps the sleeper’s spine aligned in a natural S curve and a medium-firm bed like the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow is a great pick for that. The coils offer lots of support, as well as the Zoned Support focused under the waist and lower back areas.

The Casper Wave Hybrid Snow will work well for lightweight, average-weight, and some heavyweight back sleepers. To ensure a medium-firm feel, heavyweight back sleepers might want a firmer bed, since they’ll tend to sink in more deeply to their mattress. For more options, see our best mattresses for back sleepers.

Stomach Sleepers

Stomach sleepers need a mattress that will keep their hips elevated and spine aligned to prevent back pain. This usually means a medium-firm to firm mattress. For lightweight to average-weight stomach sleepers, the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow should be firm and supportive enough to maintain their alignment.

Heavyweight stomach sleepers will likely need a firmer mattress to be sure that they are getting the support they need. For more options, see our best mattresses for stomach sleepers.

Side Sleepers

If you sleep on your side, you’ve probably woken up before with aches and pains in your shoulders or hips from sleeping on the wrong kind of mattress. Side sleepers need a bed that will maintain their spinal alignment, as well as provide pressure relief along their joints. Usually that means a softer mattress that contours around the sleeper’s body.

Average-weight and heavyweight side sleepers will probably enjoy the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow, but lightweight sleepers might not sink into the foam layers enough to get any pressure relief. They’ll probably want to find a softer mattress. For more options, see our best mattresses for side sleepers.

Combination Sleepers

Combination sleepers are those who like to change positions throughout the night. If you are a combination sleeper, responsiveness is an important quality to consider. A responsive mattress will be easy to move around on—you won’t feel like you’ve sunk in too deeply to get out.

The Casper Wave Hybrid Snow is a pretty responsive mattress, so it should be easy to move around on, especially for lightweight to average-weight sleepers. Because they’ll sink in a little more, some heavyweight combination sleepers might have more trouble changing positions. For more options, see our best mattresses for combination sleepers.

Casper Wave Hybrid Snow Mattress Performance

Is the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow Mattress Cooling?

With “Snow” in the name of the mattress, cooling is clearly one of the selling points of the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow. They even claim that the Wave Hybrid Snow sleeps up to six degrees cooler than the standard Wave Hybrid. Casper added a lot of features to increase the cooling capabilities of this mattress, including:

  • Cooling gel infused foam
  • Gel lumbar support pods
  • Airscape foam—which is perforated to promote airflow
  • QuickCool cover that’s made with Phase Change Material (material that regulates temperature)

There’s a lot to unpack there with so many cooling features, which Casper refers to all together as “Snow Technology.” Generally, we thought the cooling features worked well and we would definitely recommend this bed for hot sleepers. Still, we only rated it 4/5 for temperature regulation because it wasn’t remarkably cooler than similar hybrid mattresses. To find more options for hot sleepers, check out our best cooling mattresses.

Edge Support

One key type of support in mattresses is edge support, which, as the name suggests, is how much support the mattress has around the edges. You can spot poor edge support if you’re sitting or sleeping along the perimeter of the mattress and feel like you’re about to slip off.

The Casper Wave Hybrid Snow has reinforced edges with firm foam which gives it really great edge support. This makes the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow a great option for couples, people with mobility issues, or anyone who likes to sit on the edge of their bed.

Responsiveness

The Wave Hybrid Snow offers above average responsiveness, meaning it adjusts to your movements faster than the average mattress. Sleepers who toss and turn while they sleep shouldn’t feel “stuck” in this mattress.

Motion Isolation: Is it good for those who share a bed?

Motion transfer is important for couples because you want a mattress that can prevent your partner’s movements from waking you up at night. A mattress that can isolate motion at the source will prevent the motion from your partner from transferring to you, and ultimately waking you up. The Casper Wave Hybrid Snow has decent motion isolation, so it should work for couples. But if you’re a light sleeper you might want something a little better.

For more options, check out the best mattresses for couples.

Noise

We didn’t notice any noise coming from our Casper Wave Hybrid Snow mattress. If you hear any squeaking, check your bed frame to make sure its secure.

Pain Relief

If you deal with pain in your joints or back, it’s important to have a mattress that helps with these issues instead of making them worse. The Casper Wave Hybrid Snow has a few features that make it a good mattress for back pain, primarily the extra lower back support from the gel pods (for more info on those, see the section in this review on mattress construction). Also, it provides really good pressure relief for our average-weight and heavyweight testers, which can help prevent pain in sensitive joints like shoulders and hips.

Sex

The Casper Wave Hybrid Snow is a good mattress for sex because you’ll should stay cool and be able to move around easily on the mattress surface

Off-Gassing

We noticed a slight “new mattress smell” when we unboxed our Casper Wave Hybrid Snow. It was gone within 24 hours, and it wasn’t so strong that we were bothered by the smell. Casper uses CertiPUR-US certified foams, which are made with no harmful chemicals, so the off-gassing odor is non-toxic.

Durability

A medium-firm hybrid mattress like the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow should last you upwards of eight years, possibly even a full decade. If you notice any permanent body impressions forming, you could be eligible for a warranty claim.

Casper Wave Hybrid Snow Construction: What’s It’s Made Of?

The Casper Wave Hybrid Snow is made with a combination of foam and coils. It incorporates several features intended to prevent sleepers from overheating, such as perforated foam, gel foam, and HeatDelete bands, which are designed to direct heat away from the body. Additionally, it uses Zoned Support to maintain spinal alignment.

Layer #1—QuickCool Cover: The first layer of the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow is the QuickCool Cover, which is made with Phase Change Material that adapts to your body temperature throughout the night. The cover is thick and feels cool to the touch.

Layer #2—Comfort Layer: There’s a thin layer of gel-infused Airscape breathable foam, which is perforated to allow for more airflow within the mattress. The gel helps to prevent heat from being trapped in the mattress.

Layer #3—Support Layer: The third is another layer of perforated Airscape foam that includes six HeatDelete bands on top of the foam, which are designed to direct heat away from your body.

Layer #4—Zoned Support Foam Layer: This layer is also made with Airscape foam, but the foam is divided into three areas of Zoned Support to improve spinal alignment. The Zoned Support is softer under the shoulders and firmer around the hips, waist, and lower back to provide the right kind of support to different parts of your body.

Layer #5—Zoned Support Gel Pod Layer: Between the foam layers and the coils is a layer of gel pods, which are also zoned to provide support under the waist and lower back. These pods are also designed to keep your spine aligned.

Layer #6—Pocketed Coil Support Layer: The final layer of the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow is a layer of pocketed coils, which provide support and promote airflow within the mattress.

How Do the Policies Measure Up?

Shipping & Unboxing

Casper ships for free in the United States and Canada, but additional shipping fees do apply to Hawaii and Alaska. Their mattresses generally arrive within three to nine business days. Casper also offers an in-home delivery and set up for an additional $149 fee. If you opt for this, Casper will send a delivery team to set up your new mattress and remove your old one.

The Casper Wave Hybrid Snow arrives compressed in a box. All you have to do is take it out, roll it onto your base, and cut off the plastic. It took our team about two minutes and 30 seconds to unbox, so overall a pretty simple unboxing experience.

Warranty

Casper offers a 10-year limited warranty to original owners of Casper mattresses. If your mattress develops manufacturing defects that are covered by the warranty, Casper will replace or repair your mattress, as long as you’ve been taking care of it properly.

Trial Period & Returns

Buying a mattress online can be nerve-wracking…what if you don’t like it? Luckily, most online mattress brands offer a sleep trial period, which essentially means that you have a period to test the mattress out after buying it, during which you can return it if you decide you don’t like it.

Casper offers a 100-night sleep trial period, so you have 100 days to return it after it’s delivered, free of charge. If you decide to return, Casper will remove your mattress and offer you a full refund, as well.

100 nights is one of the shorter sleep trial periods currently offered in the bed-in-a-box market, but it should be a sufficient amount of time to decide. Be sure to give your mattress a few weeks at least before deciding if you want to return or not. It can take about 30 days to fully adjust to a new mattress

Addressing Casper Wave Hybrid Snow Complaints

  • Expensive: This mattress is pretty pricey, so it’s probably out of the budget range of many shoppers. It’s considered a luxury mattress, so if you have a tight budget, look into one of Casper’s lower cost beds, like the Casper Hybrid.
  • Not as Cooling as Promised: Yes, the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow is a cooling mattress that will definitely work for hot sleepers. But it didn’t quite deliver on the cooling to the level that the name suggests, and performed similarly to other mattresses we’ve tested.

Comparing Different Casper Mattresses

Casper Wave Hybrid Snow vs. Casper Nova Hybrid

Casper Wave Hybrid Snow Mattress is Best For: Casper Nova Hybrid Mattress is Best For:
Side Sleepers > 130 lbs Those Who Prefer A Soft Mattress
Hot Sleepers Couples Concerned About Motion Transfer
Back Sleepers < 230 lbs Side & Back Sleepers < 230 lbs

The Casper Nova Hybrid is another hybrid mattress from the Casper brand. It’s similar to the standard Casper Wave Hybrid mattress (without the Snow technology), but it’s cheaper and has a softer feel than the Wave Hybrid Snow. Both mattresses incorporate Zoned Support and cooling features like perforated foam.

We recommend both beds to side and back sleepers, but neither is quite firm enough for the average stomach sleeper. The Nova Hybrid isolations motion better, so we recommend it to couples, but the Wave Hybrid Snow stays cooler, which may also appeal to couples.

Casper Wave Hybrid Snow vs. Casper Original

Casper Wave Hybrid Snow Mattress is Best For: Casper Original Mattress is Best For:
Hot Sleepers Couples Concerned About Motion Transfer
Those With Back Pain Budget-Conscious Shoppers
Combination Sleepers Back Sleepers

The Casper Original mattress is the all-foam bed that made Casper famous in the bed-in-a-box market. The Casper Original uses Airscape foam and Zoned Support to maintain spinal alignment. It’s less responsive, being a foam mattress, but that foam also gives it superior motion isolation capabilities.

If you’re a hot sleeper, the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow will probably be a better bet than the original Casper, because even with cooling features like the Airscape foam, memory foam mattresses tend to sleep hotter than hybrid beds. But the Casper Original is significantly cheaper than the Wave Hybrid Snow, so it’s better for those on a budget.

See our full Casper Original Mattress Review to learn more.

Casper Wave Hybrid Snow vs. Casper Element

Casper Wave Hybrid Snow Mattress is Best For: Casper Element Mattress is Best For:
Back & Side Sleepers Back Sleepers
Luxury Mattress Shoppers Shoppers On A Tight Budget
Hot Sleepers Teens & College Students

The Casper Element is the budget-friendly option, with the Queen size costing only $595. The Casper Element is an all-foam bed with just two layers: one layer of Airscape foam and a durable base foam layer. It’s thinner than the other Casper mattresses, at only 8.5” tall.

This mattress is a great option for anyone on a budget, or if you need a mattress for a guest bedroom or college apartment. If you’re looking for something more supportive and with cooling features, the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow will definitely be a better choice.

See our full Casper Element Mattress Review to learn more.

Comparing Casper to the Competition

Casper Wave Hybrid Snow vs. Purple Hybrid

Casper Wave Hybrid Snow Mattress is Best For: Purple Hybrid Mattress is Best For:
Hot Sleepers Combination Sleepers
Those With Joint Pain Back Sleepers
Back & Side Sleepers Stomach Sleepers

The Purple Hybrid mattress is one of the more unique hybrid mattresses. It’s made with foam and coils, but also a polymer grid that gives Purple mattresses their signature “floating” feel. The Purple Hybrid is a little firmer than the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow, so it’s not as good for side sleepers, but stomach, back, and combination sleepers will probably like it.

Like the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow, the Purple Hybrid is also good mattress for hot sleepers, because the polymer grid promotes airflow, preventing body heat from being trapped in the mattress.

See our full Purple Hybrid Mattress Review to learn more.

Casper Wave Hybrid Snow vs. Helix Midnight

Casper Wave Hybrid Snow Mattress is Best For: Helix Midnight Mattress is Best For:
Hot Sleepers Side Sleepers
Those With Joint Pain Back & Stomach Sleepers < 230 lbs
Luxury Shoppers Value Shoppers

The Helix Midnight is a hybrid mattress made with memory foam, polyfoam, and individually wrapped coils. It’s a medium-firm mattress that’s great for lightweight to average-weight sleepers who prefer any sleeping position. However, the Midnight isn’t the most responsive mattress, so for combination sleepers, the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow will probably be better.

The Midnight has some good cooling features and great edge support. There’s also a Luxe version that’s 2” taller and features a pillow top layer. Lastly, the Helix Midnight is significantly less expensive, so it’s a better budget choice.

See our full Helix Midnight Mattress Review to learn more.

Casper Wave Hybrid Snow vs. Avocado Green

Casper Wave Hybrid Snow Mattress is Best For: Avocado Green Mattress is Best For:
Hot Sleepers Eco-Conscious Shoppers
Those Who Like the “Hug” Of Foam Combination Sleepers
Back & Side Sleepers Back & Stomach Sleepers

The Avocado Green is an all-natural hybrid mattress made with latex, coils, and an organic cotton cover. The Avocado Green is firmer than the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow, with a firmness of 7/10. Latex and coils together make this a very supportive mattress, so it’s great for back and stomach sleepers, but it’s probably too firm for most side sleepers

The latex and coil combo also makes the Avocado Green a good mattress for hot sleepers because both of these are cooling materials. If you’re looking for an organic mattress or for extra support, the Avocado Green mattress is a great option. If you prefer the cushioning “hug” of foam, the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow will work better.

Casper Wave Hybrid Snow Mattress FAQs

Is the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow worth it?

The Casper Wave Hybrid Snow mattress's biggest selling point is its advanced cooling features. We think the Snow does well with temperature regulation and will definitely keep you cool, but we don't think it's overwhelmingly cooler than similar mattresses. For hot sleepers who like memory foam, it's worth the cost.

What is Casper Snow Technology?

Snow Technology is the name Casper gives to the number of cooling features they've incorporated into the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow. They range from gel-infused foams to breathable coils, gel pods, phase change materials in the cover, and cooling bands above one of the foam layers.

How many years does a Casper mattress last?

Casper says their hybrid mattresses should last eight to 10 years and given the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow's durability, we'd say that's probably accurate. You can get to that 10 year mark by putting your mattress on a supportive bed frame, adding a mattress protector, and caring for it well.

What’s the Bottom Line?

The Casper Wave Hybrid Snow has a lot of standout qualities: great edge support, responsiveness, pressure relief, and cooling, to name a few. We weren’t as impressed with the cooling features, but it’s still on the higher end of cooling mattresses and should work for the average hot sleeper.

It’s high price means the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow isn’t a good choice for budget shoppers, but being a medium-firm bed, it’ll be comfortable for a wide range of sleepers. We particularly liked how well it maintained spinal alignment and how it felt supportive while providing excellent pressure relief.
