The Mattress Nerd’s Take: The Casper Wave Hybrid Snow is a cooling hybrid mattress with a medium-firm firmness. We loved that it maintained spinal alignment, it’s responsiveness, and edge support. The mattress has great cooling features that work well for most hot sleepers, but may be slightly oversold in the marketing of this bed.
We rated the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow at 6 on our scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is super soft and 10 is very firm. This makes the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow a medium-firm mattress, which is one of the most universally comfortable firmnesses.
However, be sure to consider your size when thinking about mattress firmness. For the average-weight sleeper, who weighs between 130 and 230 pounds, 6/10 will feel accurate. For lightweight sleepers under 130 pounds, the mattress might feel a little firmer because they won’t sink in as deeply. And vice versa, heavyweight sleepers over 230 pounds might find the mattress feeling a little softer, because they’ll sink in more deeply.
With “Snow” in the name of the mattress, cooling is clearly one of the selling points of the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow. Casper added a lot of features to increase the cooling capabilities of this mattress, including their Airscape foam—which is perforated to promote airflow—their QuickCool cover is made with Phase Change Material, cooling gel, and gel pods, and their HeatDelete bands.
There’s a lot to unpack there with so many cooling features, which Casper refers to all together as “Snow Technology.” Generally, we thought the cooling features worked well and we would definitely recommend this bed for hot sleepers. But we only rated it 4 out of 5 for temperature regulation, because it wasn’t remarkably cooler than similar hybrid mattresses. Support is an important factor when choosing a mattress. You want to pick a mattress that offers the kind of support that you need based on your sleeping position, weight, and lifestyle.
One key type of support in mattresses is edge support, which, as the name suggests, is how much support the mattress has around the edges! You can spot poor edge support if you’re sitting or sleeping along the perimeter of the mattress and feel like you’re about to slip off.
The Casper Wave Hybrid Snow has reinforced edges with firm foam which gives it really great edge support. This makes the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow a great option for couples, people with mobility issues, or anyone who likes to sit on the edge of their bed.
When shopping for a mattress for back sleepers, the main thing to look for is a mattress that keeps the sleeper’s spine aligned in a natural S curve and a medium-firm bed like the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow is a great pick for that. The coils offer lots of support, as well as the Zoned Support focused under the waist and lower back areas.
The Casper Wave Hybrid Snow will work well for lightweight, average-weight, and some heavyweight back sleepers. To ensure a medium-firm feel, heavyweight back sleepers might want a firmer bed, since they’ll tend to sink in more deeply to their mattress. For more options, see our best mattresses for back sleepers.
Stomach sleepers need a mattress that will keep their hips elevated and spine aligned to prevent back pain. This usually means a medium-firm to firm mattress. For lightweight to average-weight stomach sleepers, the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow should be firm and supportive enough to maintain their alignment.
Heavyweight stomach sleepers will likely need a firmer mattress to be sure that they are getting the support they need. For more options, see our best mattresses for stomach sleepers.
If you sleep on your side, you’ve probably woken up before with aches and pains in your shoulders or hips from sleeping on the wrong kind of mattress. Side sleepers need a bed that will maintain their spinal alignment, as well as provide pressure relief along their joints. Usually that means a softer mattress that contours around the sleeper’s body.
Average-weight and heavyweight side sleepers will probably enjoy the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow, but lightweight sleepers might not sink into the foam layers enough to get any pressure relief. They’ll probably want to find a softer mattress. For more options, see our best mattresses for side sleepers.
Combination sleepers are those who like to change positions throughout the night. If you are a combination sleeper, responsiveness is an important quality to consider. A responsive mattress will be easy to move around on—you won’t feel like you’ve sunk in too deeply to get out.
The Casper Wave Hybrid Snow is a pretty responsive mattress, so it should be easy to move around on, especially for lightweight to average-weight sleepers. Because they’ll sink in a little more, some heavyweight combination sleepers might have more trouble changing positions. For more options, see our best mattresses for combination sleepers.
|Body Type:||BACK SLEEPERS||STOMACH SLEEPERS||SIDE SLEEPERS|
|Lightweight (< 130 lbs):||5||5||2|
|Average weight (130 – 230 lbs):||5||4||4|
|Heavyweight (> 230 lbs):||3.5||2||5|
1 = Very poor, 2 = Not good, 3 = Fair, 4 = Good, 5 = Excellent
Shopping for a mattress as a couple can be potentially stressful, because you’ve got two people’s needs to consider, instead of just one. And on top of that, you need to consider how the mattress will work for two to share! What’s a mattress shopper to do?
When picking a mattress as a couple, consider you and your partner’s size and sleeping positions, but you’ll also want to consider motion transfer, edge support, and responsiveness.
Motion transfer is important for couples because you want a mattress that can prevent your partner’s movements from waking you up at night. A mattress that can isolate motion at the source will prevent the motion from your partner from transferring to you, and ultimately waking you up. The Casper Wave Hybrid Snow has decent motion isolation, so it should work for couples. But if you’re a light sleeper you might want something a little better.
Edge support is also important for couples, so you can sleep all the way to the edge of your bed without feeling like you’re going to fall off. Especially if you have a Full or Queen size bed, you might want room to spread out from your partner, and the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow’s good edge support will allow you to do that.
Finally, a responsive bed will be a good mattress for sex because you’ll be able to move around easily on the bed, and the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow does well there, too. For more information, check out our best mattresses for couples.
As you age, you might be dealing with pain in your joints or back, or dealing with mobility issues. It’s important to have a mattress that helps with these issues, instead of making them worse.
The Casper Wave Hybrid Snow has a few features that make it a good mattress for seniors. It has really great edge support, which makes getting in and out of bed easier, as well as allowing you to sleep on the edge of your bed without feeling like you’re going to fall out. It’s also responsive, which makes moving around on the bed easier for those with mobility issues.
Additionally, the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow showed really good pressure relief in our tests, which can help prevent pain in sensitive joints like shoulders and hips.
The Casper Wave Hybrid Snow is made with a combination of foam and coils. As a part of Casper’s Snow cooling collection, it also features several features intended to prevent sleepers from overheating, such as perforated foam, gel foam, and HeatDelete bands, which are designed to direct heat away from the body. Additionally, it uses Zoned Support to maintain spinal alignment.
Layer #1: QuickCool Cover: The first layer of the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow is the QuickCool Cover, which is made with Phase Change Material that adapts to your body temperature throughout the night. The cover is thick and feels cool to the touch.
Layer #2: Comfort Layer: There’s a thin layer of gel-infused Airscape breathable foam, which is perforated to allow for more airflow within the mattress. The gel helps to prevent heat from being trapped in the mattress.
Layer #3: Support Layer: The third is another layer of perforated Airscape foam, but also features six HeatDelete bands on top of the foam, which are designed to direct heat away from your body.
Layer #4: Zoned Support Foam Layer: This layer is also made with Airscape foam, but the foam is divided into three areas of Zoned Support to improve spinal alignment. The Zoned Support is softer under the shoulders and firmer around the hips, wasit, and lower back to provide the right kind of support to different parts of your body.
Layer #5: Zoned Support Gel Pod Layer: Between the foam layers and the coils is a layer of gel pods, which are also zoned to provide support under the waist and lower back. These pods are also designed to keep your spine aligned.
Layer #6: Pocketed Coil Support Layer: The final layer of the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow is a layer of pocketed coils, which provide support and promote airflow within the mattress.

Casper ships for free in the United States and Canada, but additional shipping fees do apply to Hawaii and Alaska. Their mattresses generally arrive within three to nine business days.
Casper also offers an in-home delivery and set up for an additional $149 fee. If you opt for this, Casper will send a delivery team to set up your new mattress and remove your old one.
The Casper Wave Hybrid Snow arrives compressed in a box. All you have to do is take it out, roll it onto your base, and cut off the plastic. It took our team about two minutes and 30 seconds to unbox, so overall a pretty simple unboxing experience.
Casper offers a 10-year limited warranty on their mattresses. What that means is that if you have any defects in your mattress, Casper will replace or repair your mattress, as long as you’ve been taking care of it properly and the mattress is still in the ownership of the original purchaser. To learn more about Casper’s warranty policies, check out our Casper mattress warranty breakdown.
Buying a mattress online might be nerve-wracking: what if you don’t like it? Luckily, most online mattress brands offer a sleep trial period, which essentially means that you have a period to test the mattress out after buying it, during which you can return it if you decide you don’t like it.
Casper offers a 100-night sleep trial period, so you have 100 days to return it after it’s delivered, free of charge. If you decide to return, Casper will remove your mattress and offer you a full refund, as well.
One hundred nights is one of the shorter sleep trial periods currently offered in the bed-in-a-box market, but it should be a sufficient amount of time to decide. Be sure to give your mattress a few weeks at least before deciding if you want to return or not. It can take about 30 days to fully adjust to a new mattress.
The Casper Wave Hybrid Snow has a lot of great features that make it worth purchasing, but obviously the cooling features are the biggest selling point. We thought the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow did well with temperature regulation and will definitely keep you cool, but we didn’t think it was overwhelmingly cooler than similar mattresses.
Snow Technology is the name Casper gives to the number of cooling features they’ve incorporated into the cooling collection of mattresses, the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow and the Casper Nova Hybrid Snow.
Casper says their hybrid mattresses should last eight to 10 years and given the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow’s durability, we’d say that’s probably accurate. You can get to that 10 year mark by putting your mattress on a supportive bed frame, adding a mattress protector, and caring for it well.
The Casper Nova Hybrid is another hybrid mattress from the Capser brand. Like the Casper Wave Hybrid, it’s available with or without the Snow Technology features. But both Casper Nova Hybrid and the Nova Hybrid Snow mattresses are cheaper than the Wave Hybrid models, so it’s a little more budget-friendly.
This mattress has a plusher, softer top than the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow, but still features the cooling Airscape perforated foam. It also uses zoned support in the third layer to maintain spinal alignment.
The Casper Original mattress is the all-foam bed that made Casper famous in the bed-in-a-box market. The Casper Original uses Airscape foam for some cooling effects and Zoned Support to maintain spinal alignment. It’s less responsive, being a foam mattress, but that foam also gives it superior motion isolation capabilities.
If you’re a hot sleeper, the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow will probably be a better bet than the original Casper, because even with cooling features like the Airscape foam, memory foam mattresses tend to sleep hotter than hybrid beds. But the Casper Original is significantly cheaper than the hybrid beds, so it’s a really great budget option.
The Casper Element is the budget-friendly option, with the Queen size costing only $595. The Casper Element is an all-foam bed with just two layers: one layer of Airscape foam and a durable base foam layer. It’s thinner than the other Casper mattresses, at only 8.5” tall.
This mattress is a great option for anyone on a budget, or if you need a mattress for a guest bedroom or college apartment. If you’re looking for something more supportive and with cooling features, the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow will definitely be a better choice.
The Purple Hybrid mattress is one of the more unique hybrid mattresses. It’s made with foam and coils, but also a polymer grid that gives Purple mattresses their signature “floating” feel. The Purple Hybrid is a little firmer than the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow, so it’s not as good for side sleepers, but stomach, back, and combination sleepers will probably like it.
The Purple Hybrid is a good mattress for hot sleepers, because the polymer grid promotes airflow, preventing body heat from being trapped in the mattress.
The Helix Midnight is a hybrid mattress made with memory foam, polyfoam, and individually wrapped coils. It’s a medium-firm mattress that is great for lightweight to average-weight side and back sleepers. It also has some good cooling features and great edge support. There’s also a Luxe version that’s 2” taller and features a pillow top layer.
However it’s not the most responsive, so for combination sleepers the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow will probably be better. But the Helix Midnight is significantly less expensive, so it’s a better budget choice.
The Avocado Green mattress is an all natural hybrid mattress, made with latex and coils. It features an organic cotton mattress cover, as well. The Avocado Green mattress is firmer than the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow, at 7 out of 10. Latex and coils together make this a very supportive mattress, so it’s great for back and stomach sleepers, but it’s probably too firm for most side sleepers.
The latex and coil combo also makes the Avocado Green a good mattress for hot sleepers because both of these are cooling materials. If you’re looking for an organic mattress or for extra support, the Avocado Green mattress is a great option. But if you prefer the feel of foam over latex, the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow will work better.
The Casper Wave Hybrid Snow has a lot of great qualities that will ensure a good night’s sleep: solid edge support, responsiveness, pressure relief, and cooling. The cooling features weren’t as effective as Casper promised, especially considering the higher price for the Snow version, but it’s still on the better end of cooling mattresses and will definitely work for hot sleepers.
It’s high price means the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow isn’t a good choice for budget shoppers, but being a medium-firm bed, it’ll be comfortable for a wide range of sleepers. We particularly liked how well it maintained spinal alignment and the feeling of sleeping on top of the bed, instead of in it.
