Our Verdict: Idle Sleep has become known for its selection of flippable mattresses, which include both hybrid and all-foam options. The Idle Sleep All Foam mattress is the brand’s first venture into single-sided, all-foam mattresses. We think the brand has delivered in nearly every area, but the unique cooling and responsive foams, thickness options, and buying experience are what standout the most. The 12” and 14” All Foam beds offer medium and plush firmness settings that suit a wide variety of sleepers for a reasonable price. What We’ll Cover in this Idle Sleep Memory Foam Mattress Review

In the past, Idle Sleep has offered hybrid, all-foam, and airbed mattresses that feature double-sided constructions with one firmness setting on each side. The Idle Sleep Foam Mattress is the brand’s first all-foam offering that isn’t flippable, but it is available in two heights, which correspond with unique firmness settings tailored to various sleeping positions and body types.

Read our Idle Sleep Mattress Review to learn more about the brand’s offerings.

The Idle Sleep All Foam has some advantages over competing memory foam mattresses. For one, the sleep trial (18 months) and warranty (lifetime) are much longer than average. The warranty also covers body indentations as thin as .5”, which is rarely seen in the industry and speaks to the brand’s belief in the durability of its products.

The Idle Sleep All Foam mattress comes in 12” and 14” heights, which correspond with a soft firmness level and a medium to medium-firm firmness level. Both versions have a soft, removable cover, gel-infused foams for adding cooling, a fire-safe barrier for enhanced safety, and varying thicknesses of transition and high-density foam core layers. Both come as bed-in-a-box mattresses.

The Idle and The Idle Plush vary minimally but not insignificantly. The Idle Plush has more luxury and cooling features than The Idle, including thicker comfort layers, better pressure relief, enhanced softness in the cover, and more cooling properties. For other mattresses with a variety of features, see the best luxury mattresses.

Overall, we think either of these mattresses would be an excellent choice for shoppers who enjoy foam mattresses but typically sleep hot on them or enjoy the contours of memory foam but want more responsiveness to the touch. If you need a responsive mattress that makes movement easy, see the best mattress for combination sleepers.

What Type of Mattress is the Idle Sleep Memory Foam Mattress?

Both of the the mattresses in the Idle Sleep Memory Foam line are foam mattresses, but they aren’t made with traditional memory foam. Idle Sleep’s proprietary Buoyancy Foam sets these beds apart.

Made to offer 400% more support, along with rapid responsiveness, in addition to elevated cooling features, this unique type of foam won’t give you the traditional memory foam feel. What it will give you, though, is a supportive yet contouring surface with a little more plushness than a hybrid mattress.

How Well Does the Idle Sleep Memory Foam Regulate Temperature?

Idle Sleep created these mattresses to excel at heat dissipation and cooling. The 12″ option includes unique Air Flow foam that keeps heat moving away from you, while the 14″ option includes gel-infused foam that not only actively cools, but also keeps heat away from you. Additionally, the top cover has more of the brand’s proprietary buoyancy foam incorporated into it to pull heat away. For other mattresses that incorporate cooling features, see the best mattress for hot sleepers.

Idle Sleep Memory Foam Mattress Firmness & Feel

The Idle features a more standard layering of foams in its construction, with a cover followed by a 3” comfort layer, a 2” transition layer, and a 7” high-density foam core. We anticipate that The Idle will fall somewhere in the medium range of firmness settings (between 5.5 and 6.5). This setting range will conform to a noticeable extent for most average weight sleepers.

We anticipate the Idle Plush 14” having a softer, deeper sinking sleeping surface, as is indicated in its name and construction. Two inches of Idle Buoyancy Foam are quilted into the mattress’ ThermoCool fabric cover, which mimics the hug of memory foam but reacts faster so that you don’t feel stuck in the mattress when getting out of bed or changing sleeping positions.

Like The Idle 12”, the Idle Plush has a comfort layer of cooling buoyancy foam and a high-density foam support core, but while the 12” has Air Flow foam in the transition layer, the 14” has gel-infused memory foam, which contributes greatly to the bed’s overall cooling abilities and its soft feel.

Is the Idle Sleep Memory Foam Mattress Good For Couples?

All-foam mattresses are superior at motion isolation because of their movement-absorbing materials. The Idle Sleep mattresses are made with unique Buoyancy Foam that reduces motion and reacts extra quickly to any motion, making them a great mattress for couples.

Idle Memory Foam Mattress by Sleeping Positions

Back Stomach Side Combination
Foam core provides even support throughout the mattress

Plush option may cause sinking in the hips and shoulders

Proprietary foams provide pressure relief without a stuck feeling

Thicker comfort layers in the Plush version provide even more pressure relief for people with aches in the hips and shoulders

Heavyweight sleepers may sink too much in this position

Foam core provides even support throughout the mattress

Plush option may cause sinking in the hips

More responsive feel makes changing positions easier

Both models eliminate motion transfer well

Firmness settings may not accommodate heavyweight combination sleepers in all positions

Back Sleepers

The 12” version of the Idle Sleep All Foam provides nice support for average weight back sleepers, and the 14” version of the All Foam bed should work for lightweight back sleepers. Both models will distribute these weights evenly across the mattress, thanks to their durable and supportive cores, and back sleepers will experience some low lumbar contouring and softness from the top layers of Buoyancy foam. For similar mattresses, the best mattress for back sleepers.

Side Sleepers

Lightweight, petite, and average weight side sleepers who like deep contouring should select the Plush version of the Idle Sleep Foam Mattress. The thicker comfort layers will allow for more give in the hips and shoulders. If you prefer a more balanced feel to your mattress and are average weight, we recommend the 12” version. This bed is too soft for heavyweight side sleepers. For mattresses that contour around pressure points, see the best mattress for side sleepers.

Stomach Sleepers

Stomach sleepers in the lightweight and average weight categories should also fare well on the 12” and 14” version of this mattress, respectively. The majority of a stomach sleeper’s bodyweight rests in the torso throughout the night, and the Idle Sleep All Foam should provide nice support for this area while keeping the hips elevated to prevent low back pain. Heavyweight stomach sleepers will experience sinking hips on this mattress and should look for a firmer option. For a firmer and more supportive option, see our pick for the best mattress for heavy stomach sleepers.

Combination Sleepers

If you change positions throughout the night, the Idle Sleep All Foam can work well for you. While the bed offers nice contouring and pressure relief, its comfort and transitional layers have more bounce than memory foam mattresses, making it easier for combination sleepers to change positions without feeling “stuck” in the materials. Choose your mattress height and firmness based on your body type and the sleeping position you spend the majority of the night in.

Idle Sleep Memory Foam Mattress Construction

The Idle is the 12” all-foam model by Idle and features a soft, smooth, washable cover that can be easily removed with the zipper. This is followed by Idle’s cotton fire barrier and a 3” layer of Idle Gel-Infused Buoyancy Foam. This comfort layer foam provides contouring, more bounce than memory foam, and helps sleepers stay cool.

The transition layer of the mattress features 2” of Air Flow foam, which is perforated to aid in cooling and provides additional pressure relief. The support layer of this model is 7” of high-density foam.

The Idle Plush has a similar construction to the 12” model but has additional luxury features for more comfort and cooling. It features a quilted cover with 1” of Buoyancy foam sewn in and two comfort layers. The first comfort layer is 2” of Gel-Infused Buoyancy Foam, and the second layer is 3” of Idle Gel-Infused Memory Foam.

Together, these thicker comfort layers contribute to the bed’s plush feel and prevent the sleeper from sinking into the base layer beneath them. The core of the mattress is 8” of high-density foam, which provides durability, stability, and motion isolation for the bed. The Idle Plush measures 14” tall.

Our Idle Sleep Memory Foam Review

Nerd Score: 4.7/5

The Idle Mattress has a lot to offer, from its product policies to its thoughtful construction, for an all foam bed. The 18-month trial period and Lifetime warranty policies are even more generous than those of popular competing mattress companies like Nectar Sleep and Casper.

The Idle Sleep’s proprietary foams also make it stand out from the crowd. Sleepers who enjoy the pressure relief of memory foam but either sleep hot on it or wish it were more bouncy may find the best of both worlds in this mattress.

The Idle Foam combines cooling, gel-infused foams with Idle Sleep’s Buoyancy Foam for “400% more support than regular memory foam” and a more responsive feel. Not to mention, you’ll choose from two heights and firmness levels, meaning there’s something for every lightweight and average weight sleeper in this mattress.

FAQs

Will My Idle Mattress Have Off-Gassing?

Idle mattresses are made with premium materials. They are rolled for shipment close to when they are shipped, which means the mattresses have little to no off-gassing.

Which Firmness Should I Choose?

The Medium firmness option is the most popular choice amongst sleepers. It provides support for the back, hips and shoulders, while still giving cushioning to high-pressure areas. If you have specific concerns though, like shoulder or hip pain, a lower or higher firmness might be more suitable.

Do I Need a Boxspring?

Idle mattresses can be put on any flat surface, including a boxspring, foundation, slats, or an adjustable base.
