If you’re considering switching from a traditional base to an adjustable one, this review’s for you. In this article, we’ll be taking a close look at the Saatva Adjustable Base, the revamped version of their Lineal bed base series. Boasting “customizable comfort” and wide-ranging mattress compatibility, the Saatva Adjustable Base is quickly becoming a popular bedroom addition. But is it the right bed base for your needs and preferences? Read on to find out.

Is the Saatva Adjustable Base for You?

Who’s Going to Love the Saatva Adjustable Base

  • Light sleepers
  • Those who watch TV or read books before sleeping.
  • People who want a long warranty

Who Should Steer Clear of the Saatva Adjustable Base

  • Budget shoppers: Considering its features, the Saatva Adjustable Base is a bit pricey, so if you’re on a budget, you may want to look elsewhere.
  • Those who want a base with a massage feature: Unfortunately, the standard Saatva base doesn’t have a massage feature. For that, you’d have to buy the Plus model.
  • Those looking to maximize space: Unlike the Plus model, the standard version doesn’t have a wall-hugging design, which isn’t ideal if you want to save bedroom space.

Saatva Adjustable Base: Special Features

Let’s talk more about the features that the Saatva Adjustable Base offers, as well as how well it stacks up against other competitors.

Adjustable Height

One of the highlights of the Saatva Adjustable Base is its customizable height, thanks to adjustable legs that can be set from 13” to 18” at 0.5” increments. This feature lets you tailor your bed’s height according to your needs and preferences for maximum comfort and ease of use. Additionally, the legs can be removed entirely. This makes it compatible with platform bases, which is great if you’re after under-the-bed storage or simply prefer the look of a platform bed. We do have a full guide on how to hide an adjustable bed frame.

Remote Control

You can control the Saatva Adjustable Base via a wireless remote control, allowing you to adjust the elevation of your head and feet with a simple click. This way, you can find the most comfortable sleeping or reading position for you. Another useful feature we like is the built-in flashlight which can be a lifesaver when you want to avoid stubbing your toe on the bed frame during late-night bathroom trips.

However, we do wish the remote came with preset adjustments. While it’s not much of a deal-breaker, being able to save presets would be much more convenient than having to adjust every time manually. But if presets are a must-have for you, we recommend you get the Saatva Adjustable Base Plus, or check out our full list of the best adjustable beds.

Free White Glove Delivery

If you live alone, aren’t particularly handy with tools, or have trouble lifting heavy items, you’ll appreciate the complimentary white glove delivery with the Saatva Adjustable Base. With this, there’s no need to wrestle with tools and instructional manuals. All you have to do is open the door, guide the delivery team to your bedroom, and let the professionals do all the heavy lifting. You can also opt for free foundational removal, in case you need it.

How Much Does the Saatva Adjustable Base Cost?

King$1,74576″ x 80″13″ to 18”

California King$1,74572″ x 84″13″ to 18”

How Do the Policies Measure Up?

Shipping & Unboxing

The Saatva Adjustable Base comes with free white glove delivery across the contiguous U.S., wherein they hand-deliver your bed base to your home and set it up in your bedroom. They can also assist you with removing and disposing of your old foundation or base at no extra charge. However, they don’t dispose of certain types of bases (such as waterbed bases or metal frames), so make sure to ask first whether you’re eligible for this service.

You can pick a delivery schedule that’s most convenient for you, but Saatva does state that they usually have a 9 to 21-day time frame for most orders, depending on your zip code.

Warranty

The Standard version of the Saatva Adjustable base comes with a 10-year limited warranty, while the Plus model gets a longer 25-year warranty. Still, we’re pretty happy since the base model offers a significantly longer warranty period than most adjustable bases around the price range.

For the 1st year, the policy covers any workmanship or material defects, with Saatva shouldering all the costs of transporting and replacing or replacing defective parts. For the rest of the warranty period, the buyer (you) will need to shoulder all service and transportation costs in case of repairs.

Trial Period & Returns

You can’t get the full sense of how a base feels until you’ve tried it, so trial periods are really nice to have with your purchase. Unfortunately, Saatva does not offer a trial period, so make sure you’re 100% sure about getting it before buying. They also don’t allow returns or exchanges.

If you really want to try out the Saatva Adjustable Base before buying, we recommend you contact Saatva to find out where the nearest viewing room to your location is.

Addressing Saatva Adjustable Base Complaints

  • Lack of presets: Having no preset positions on the remote has been a point of contention for some users. However, some do appreciate the flexibility of being able to fine-tune the head and foot positions. Nevertheless, we think it would have been nice to have more options without having to shell out more for the Plus model.
  • Lacking in features: Some customers (including us) wish it came with more features, especially at its price range. Make no mistake, though – we think the Saatva Adjustable Base stands at a good price point. However, when compared to the Plus model, the Standard version really loses out on features.
  • No trial period: We saw a lot of potential buyers changing their minds about purchasing the Saatva Adjustable Base when they found out it didn’t have a trial period. Having a trial period would’ve been really helpful in finding out whether the Saatva Adjustable Base is a good fit or not.

The Nerd’s Take: What’s the Bottom Line?

Overall, we think the Saatva Adjustable Base is a good adjustable base that provides essential features you’d expect, like a solid framework and adjustable head and foot sections for customizable comfort. However, compared to its competitors in the same price range, the Saatva Base is a bit basic in terms of features, especially considering the lack of presets available on the remote control.

Additionally, the absence of a trial period and the fact that it’s not eligible for returns or exchanges is also worth noting. On the brighter side, Saatva compensates for these shortfalls with a generous 10-year warranty and a free white glove delivery service.

FAQs

Is Saatva a good adjustable bed?

Yes, the Saatva Adjustable Base is a solid product from a trusted brand. It’s got everything you’d expect from an adjustable base, such as having adjustable height and positions, a remote control for ease of use, and a quiet motor for undisturbed sleep.

Can you use a Saatva mattress on an adjustable bed frame?

Yes, Saatva designed their adjustable bed frames to be compatible with almost all Saatva mattresses or different sizes. Just to be sure, however, make sure to check the product page to see if your mattress is compatible with the Saatva Adjustable Base.

If you want our recommendations, we have a list of the best mattresses for adjustable bases.

Can I put my regular mattress on my adjustable base?

It depends. You don’t have to purchase a Saatva mattress for the Saatva Adjustable Base. However, certain mattresses aren’t compatible with adjustable bases. Contact your mattress manufacturer or refer to the product manual to determine whether your mattress is compatible or not.

Can you use a box spring with an adjustable base?

No, a box spring is not compatible with an adjustable base. They’re designed to be a flat foundation for a mattress, which means they lack the flexibility required by an adjustable base. We don’t recommend you use box springs with adjustable bases as it can damage them both.

Can a mattress be too thick for an adjustable bed?

Yes, a particularly thick mattress may not be flexible enough for an adjustable bed. We recommend mattresses that are 10” to 12” thick, as thicker mattresses have a hard time bending with an adjustable base’s movements. But just to be sure, contact your mattress manufacturer to see if your mattress is compatible.
