Saatva vs. TEMPUR-Cloud Hybrid Overview

The Saatva mattress is an eco-friendly hybrid bed built with a euro-top pillow cover, a comfort layer of responsive foam and two layers of supportive innerspring coils. The TEMPUR-Cloud Hybrid mattress is built with a single coil support layer and thick foam layers that provide a feel more similar to a traditional memory foam bed.

Who Should Choose the Saatva Mattress?

  • Hot sleepers: Both of these hybrid mattresses sleep cool, but the Saatva is built with ultra-breathable materials such as organic cotton and wool to make this bed one of the most breathable hybrid options on the market.
  • Combination sleepers: If you tend to toss and turn, the Saatva will quickly respond to your movements to keep you supported in every sleeping position.
  • Senior citizens: The Saatva provides pressure relief to sore joints, but also provides reinforced edge support and a sturdy surface to help you get in and out of bed more easily.

Who Should Choose the TEMPUR-Cloud Hybrid Mattress?

  • Those who need deep pressure relief: This hybrid mattress is built with plush layers that hug your curves and sore spots as you lay on the mattress.
  • Back sleepers: Back sleepers of every body type will get the support they need from the TEMPUR-Cloud mattress.
  • Couples: The Tempur-Pedic’s top foam layers absorb your movements so you won’t disturb your partner if you toss and turn or get in and out of bed.

Saatva vs. TEMPUR-Cloud Hybrid: Top Similarities

  • Hybrid construction: Both of these beds combine layers of foam and innerspring coils to provide a blend of sturdy support and pressure relief.
  • Price: The Saatva is slightly less expensive than the hybrid Tempur-Pedic model—but neither of these beds are budget-friendly.
  • Durability: The hybrid construction of these mattresses makes them more durable than most beds made of a single material.

Saatva vs. TEMPUR-Cloud Hybrid: Top Differences

  • Firmness options: The Saatva comes in three firmness level options: soft, luxury-firm, and firm. The TEMPUR-Cloud only comes in one medium-firm firmness option that is comparable to the luxury-firm Saatva bed.
  • Pressure relief: Both of these beds are built with memory foam, but the Tempur-Pedic provides deeper pressure relief to help ease or prevent aches and pains.
  • Edge support: While the Tempurpedic sinks slightly at the edges, the sides of the Saatva mattress are reinforced to stay sturdy when you sit sleep or sit on the edge of the bed.

Saatva vs. TEMPUR-Cloud Hybrid: Firmness & Feel Differences

The Saatva comes in three firmness options (soft, luxury-firm, and firm) and has a balanced, supportive feel. The TEMPUR-Cloud is medium firm and feels plush and liquid to the touch.

What’s the Firmness Of the Saatva vs. TEMPUR-Cloud Hybrid Mattresses?

We measure firmness on a scale of 1-10, where 1 is the softest mattress and 10 would be like sleeping on a wooden plank. The Saatva comes in 3 firmness options across the firmness scale—soft, which measures at a 3/10, luxury-firm, which is 6.5/10, and firm, which lands at a 8/10. Lighter-weight sleepers and side sleepers will prefer the soft or luxury-firm mattress, while heavyweight, back and stomach sleepers will get the support they need on the luxury-firm or firm models. Average-weight sleepers could be comfortable on any of the three options depending on sleeping position and preference.

The TEMPUR-Cloud Hybrid is a medium-firm mattress, which is about a 6.5/10 on the firmness level scale. This middle-of-the-road firmness level suits most sleepers, but heavyweight sleepers and stomach sleepers may prefer a bed with a firmer level of support to prevent sinkage.

What Do the Saatva vs. TEMPUR-Cloud Hybrid Mattresses Feel Like?

The Saatva feels more like a traditional innerspring mattress than a memory foam bed. This bed is bouncy and responsive so it can help keep your body propped up so you feel as if you are gently floating on top of the mattress. The mattress also has reinforced edge support so you won’t feel like you’re going to slip off the side if you lay by the end of the bed.

The Tempur-Pedic bed is soft and cloud-like. When you lay on the surface of the bed, the soft comfort layers will deeply cradle your curves while the supportive coils underneath prevent uncomfortable sinkage.

What’s It Like to Sleep On the Saatva & TEMPUR-Cloud Hybrid?

When you first lay down on the Saatva mattress, you’ll first feel the euro-pillow topper and comfort layer give slightly around the curves of your body while the bouncy support layers underneath provide pushback to keep you positioned on the top of the mattress.

Although the TEMPUR-Cloud Hybrid bed won’t provide the same deep sinkage as Tempur-Pedic’s all-foam models, the bed still provides the brand’s signature memory foam feel. You’ll feel extra give around the areas that are pressed against the mattress, such as the hips, shoulders, and knees, to keep these pressure points comfortable throughout the night. This hybrid bed will sleep cool enough for the average sleeper, but the bed’s foam layers can trap heat. If you live in a warmer climate or are prone to night sweats, this bed may not work for you.

Heavyweight (> 230 lbs): 533

1 = Very poor, 2 = Not good, 3 = Fair, 4 = Good, 5 = Excellent

Average-Weight Sleepers (130–230 lbs)

Both of these beds have excellent support and pressure relief for average-weight sleepers of all positions. The Saatva had a slight edge over the TEMPUR-Cloud in its performance with stomach sleepers and combination sleepers—but if you weigh between 130-230 lbs, you won’t go wrong with either of these beds.

Heavyweight Sleepers (> 230 lbs)

The luxury firm or firm models of the Saatva mattress will keep heavyweight side and back sleepers comfortable. The dual layers of innerspring coils keep heavyweight sleepers in those positions propped up on top of the bed but stomach sleepers won’t get the support they need to prevent sinkage. See the best mattresses for stomach sleepers.

The TEMPUR-Cloud is one of the best mattresses on the market for back sleepers over 230 lbs, but side, stomach, and combination sleepers should steer clear. Heavyweight sleepers who don’t sleep on their backs may sink too far into the bed—which could cause you to sleep in an unhealthy spinal alignment and wake up with aches and pains.

Lightweight Sleepers (< 130 lbs)

The Saatva mattress performed extremely well for back and stomach sleepers under 130 lbs, but side sleepers couldn’t sink deeply enough into the bed’s comfort layers to get the relief they need and could feel some pressure on the hips and shoulders. The Saatva could work for combination sleepers—as long as you don’t often end up on your side.

The TEMPUR-Cloud, on the other hand, scored extremely well across all sleeping positions for lightweight sleepers. This bed contours to lightweight bodies but allows them to move with ease so you won’t feel “stuck” in the bed.

Differences In Mattress Construction

The Saatva mattress comes in two height options—11.5″ and 14.5″—and is built with a combination of memory foam, polyurethane foam, and two sets of coil layers. The TEMPUR-Cloud measures 10″ tall and is built with a single layer of innerspring coils that is topped with soft memory foam layers.

The Saatva mattress comes wrapped in an organic cotton cover that is quilted with a luxe anti-microbial Euro-style pillow topper. The TEMPUR-Cloud mattress comes with a stretchy, breathable, and waterproof cover that is designed to stay cool to the touch.

Comfort Layers

The Saatva has a single memory foam layer between the cover and the support layers. This layer offers moderate contouring pressure relief and ergonomic lumbar support. The TEMPUR-Cloud Hybrid also has a layer of pressure-relieving foam—but the Tempur-Pedic foam is more plush and provides deeper contouring than that of the Saatva.

Support Layers

The Saatva has two innerspring support layers at the base of the bed, with added lumbar wire support in between the two sets of coils. These coils are bouncy and responsive, and provide extra sturdiness to the bed without making it feel too firm or uncomfortable. The Saatva is also built with reinforced edge support that adds extra durability and stability.

The TEMPUR-Cloud mattress is supported by a layer of durable high-density foam stacked on top of a layer of over 1,000 innerspring coils.

Saatva vs. TEMPUR-Cloud Hybrid Mattress Performance Ratings & Differences

Although both beds have a temperature-neutral hybrid construction, the Saatva is slightly more temperature-regulating than the TEMPUR-Cloud. The Saatva is built with two innerspring coil layers, which provide extra airflow to move body heat away from the mattress. Also, the Saatva comes wrapped in a breathable cover made of New Zealand wool and organic cotton, which provide extra cooling and moisture-wicking as you sleep.

Motion Transfer

The Saatva and the Tempur-Pedic mattress are built with memory foam layers, which typically do a great job at preventing motion transfer. The TEMPUR-Cloud, however, muffles more movement than the Saatva. The Saatva has two layers of innerspring coils, which can pick up vibrations from your movements and make them ripple across the bed. The TEMPUR-Cloud’s multiple thick foam layers help absorb any vibrations from the movements you or your partner make as you toss and turn so they don’t make their way to the other side of the mattress.

Edge Support

Because of the mattress’s soft foam layers, you may feel a slight sinking feeling if you sit or lay near the side of the Tempur-Pedic bed. The Saatva mattress, however, was designed with reinforced edge support that grips you as you perch on the end of the bed so you don’t have to worry about sagging or slipping if you sit near the side.

Pressure Relief

If you tend to have pain in your shoulders or hips, the TEMPUR-Cloud mattress is more likely to give you the pressure relief you need. Tempur-Pedic’s thick foam layers cradle your body and contour along your curves to relieve stress from your joints as you sleep.

Pain Relief

The Saatva’s three firmness level options and responsive innerspring support layers do an excellent job of supporting a healthy spinal alinement for virtually all body types. This bed is also ultra-durable, which will reduce the chances of sagging—and you developing aches and pains—over time. The only type of sleepers that might not be supported by the Saatva are stomach sleepers over 230 pounds, who may need a firmer bed to keep the lower back propped up in a healthy position.

The Tempur-Pedic’s deep and plush pressure-relieving layers make it a better choice for those who suffer from joint pain. This mattress’s comfort layers provide extra give and cushioning around the tender areas of your body that press into the mattress.

Thanks to their hybrid construction, both of these beds have above-average durability. The Saatva’s superior edge support will make it last a little longer compared to the TEMPUR-Cloud—but both mattresses are built to hold up over time.

Saatva & TEMPUR-Cloud FAQs

Do the Saatva or TEMPUR-Cloud mattresses need to be flipped?

The Saatva and TEMPUR-Cloud are one-sided mattresses. You shouldn’t flip these mattresses or you won’t benefit from the soft comfort layers built into the top of the mattress. You can, however, rotate your mattress every 6 months to help distribute the wear and prevent the beds from breaking down over time.

Which mattress is softer?

The TEMPUR-Cloud mattress is a medium-firm mattress, which measures in at a 6.5/10 on a firmness scale where 10 is the firmest option. The Saatva has a soft option that is a 3/10 on the firmness scale. The Saatva also comes in luxury firm (6/10) and firm (8/10) options.

Do the Saatva or Tempur-Pedic mattresses sleep hot?

Both of these mattresses sleep cool despite the fact that they are built with memory foam. Both of these hybrid beds are built with innerspring coils layers that allow air to flow through the bed and prevent your body heat from getting trapped in the mattress. Since the Saatva is built with two coil layers, it sleeps slightly cooler than the TEMPUR-Cloud.
