DreamCloud vs. TEMPUR-Cloud Hybrid: Firmness & Feel Differences

In this section, we’ll be talking about how DreamCloud stacks up against TEMPUR-Cloud in terms of firmness, feel, and overall sleep experience.

What’s the Firmness Of the DreamCloud & TEMPUR-Cloud Hybrid Mattresses?

To know if you’re compatible with a mattress, one of the first things you should consider is its firmness level. Getting a mattress with a firmness level that’s not a good fit for your sleeping position may cause unwanted body pains and aches.

According to our firmness scale of 1-10 (with 1 being the softest and 10 being the firmest), the DreamCloud Original scores a medium-firm rating of 6.5/10. While we also rated the TEMPUR-Cloud as a medium-firm mattress, we think it’s slightly softer than the DreamCloud with a score of 6/10.

What Do the DreamCloud & TEMPUR-Cloud Hybrid Mattresses Feel Like?

Sleeping on the DreamCloud feels like you’re sleeping on top of it rather than “in” it. At first, you may feel like you’re sinking into the soft memory foam layers. But later on, you’ll feel the support and slight lift from its supportive coil layers. It’s also quite cool to the touch, probably because of its gel-infused memory foam top layers.

Meanwhile, the TEMPUR-Cloud is closer to the traditional memory foam feel. Lying down on top of it, you feel a slight sinking and hugging feel. However, since it’s a hybrid mattress, its coil layer keeps you lifted and supported. We also found the TEMPUR-Cloud cool to sleep on, though not as much as the DreamCloud Original.

What’s It Like to Sleep On the DreamCloud & Tempur-Cloud Hybrid Mattresses?

Because of its medium-firm hybrid construction, the DreamCloud is a very good match for most back sleepers because they get a good combination of comfort and support. Stomach sleepers will also fare well with the mattress, but those on the heavier side may feel like it hugs and sinks around the hips too much. On the other hand, average to heavyweight side sleepers will feel comfier while lighter sleepers may feel like it’s a bit too firm and stiff. DreamCloud is also a good fit for combination sleepers because of its responsive coil system.

The TEMPUR-Cloud is a great mattress option for back, side, and combination because it provides great lumbar support, body-contouring features, and a responsive coil layer. It’s also a solid mattress for most stomach sleepers, but heavier folks will likely feel that it lacks a bit of hip support

Body Type:BACK SLEEPERSSTOMACH SLEEPERSSIDE SLEEPERS
Lightweight (< 130 lbs): 554
Average-weight (130–230 lbs):534
Heavyweight (> 230 lbs): 433

1 = Very poor, 2 = Not good, 3 = Fair, 4 = Good, 5 = Excellent

Average-Weight Sleepers (130–230 lbs)

Both mattresses should be able to make average-weight back sleepers feel comfy and supported. Side sleepers will probably sleep well on both, but the slightly softer TEMPUR-Cloud should offer more comfort. Oppositely, the firmer DreamCloud will probably offer better hip support for stomach sleepers than the TEMPUR-Cloud. Since both mattresses have responsive coil layers, we think combination sleepers will have no trouble picking either mattress.

Heavyweight Sleepers (> 230 lbs)

Both the DreamCloud Original and TEMPUR-Cloud can accommodate some heavyweight back sleepers, but some may experience excess sinkage and should look for a firmer mattress. Similarly, both mattresses will probably be too soft for most stomach sleepers which will probably be uncomfortable due to excess sinking around the hip area.

Both mattresses may also be able to provide enough support for heavyweight side sleepers, but we still recommend the slightly firmer DreamCloud for better comfort. As for heavy combination sleepers, we think they should look for more supportive and responsive mattresses, like our picks in our list of the best mattresses for combination sleepers.

Lightweight Sleepers (< 130 lbs)

Both mattresses offer a medium-firm feel that, when coupled with soft memory foam layers and a supportive coil system, make them great options for lightweight back and stomach sleepers. However, side sleepers are better off with the softer TEMPUR-Cloud mattress since we feel like they won’t sink deep enough to feel comfortable in the DreamCloud mattress. Similarly, we also think that the TEMPUR-Cloud offers better comfort and responsiveness for combination sleepers.

Differences In Mattress Construction

The DreamCloud Original is a 14” hybrid mattress, while the TEMPUR-Cloud is a slightly smaller hybrid mattress at 10”. Let’s take a closer look at how the DreamCloud Original and TEMPUR-Cloud differ in terms of mattress construction.

The DreamCloud’s cover is made from a cashmere-blend fabric and quilted foam to simulate a soft, cloudy feel, while the TEMPUR-Cloud’s is crafted from a stretchy and breathable material that wicks away moisture and regulates body temperature.

Comfort Layers

DreamCloud’s support layer is made from gel-infused foam that prioritizes pressure relief and temperature regulation to keep you cool and fresh at night. TEMPUR-Cloud’s comfort layer is made with soft memory foam with a slightly firmer support layer underneath that’s designed for body contouring.

DreamCloud vs. TEMPUR-Cloud Hybrid Mattress Performance Ratings & Differences

Temperature

If you’re a hot sleeper, you’re going to want to look for a mattress that wicks away heat and moisture for a comfy night’s sleep.

Luckily, both the DreamCloud and TEMPUR-Cloud mattresses offer breathable coil systems that promote airflow and keep the mattress cool. Furthermore, the DreamCloud has a gel-infused memory foam layer that’s cool to the touch and doesn’t retain as much heat as other memory foams.

Motion Transfer

If you’re sharing your bed with someone, you’ll want to have a mattress with low motion transfer. A mattress with low motion transfer means that you or your partner won’t be disturbed as much when one of you decides to get up or shift around in the middle of the night.

Despite having coil systems and foam layers, both DreamCloud and TEMPUR-Cloud offer excellent motion isolation, which means that you won’t feel your partner’s movements that much. Knowing this, we definitely think that both mattresses are great mattress choices for couples and co-sleepers.

Edge Support

Edge support in a mattress measures how well the edges of your mattress hold up whenever someone sits or lies down on them. If the sleeper is a senior or someone needs assistance getting in and out of bed, you’re going to want to find a mattress with excellent edge support.

Between the two, the DreamCloud Original is the clear winner. When we sat on its edges, we didn’t feel like we were going to slip off. Lying down, we were able to spread out over the mattress without much issue on the sides. However, the same can’t be said for TEMPUR-Cloud. When we sat on its sides, we quickly noticed that the edges sagged pretty easily.

Pressure Relief

Pressure relief is a mattress’s ability to relieve tension from your body’s pressure points. A mattress with great pressure-relieving capabilities will prevent any body pains and aches from occurring.

After some testing, both DreamCloud and TEMPUR-Cloud scored great when it came to pressure relief around the back and shoulder areas. They both have deeply contouring and cushioning comfort layers that help relieve the pressure. However, for those needing pressure relief around the hips, we don’t really recommend either mattress. Our pressure maps showed that was a considerable build-up of pressure around the hips.

Pain Relief

If you’ve ever woken up feeling sore all over, there’s a chance you need to look for a better mattress. Pain relief is directly tied to pressure relief – when there’s more pressure build-up, the higher chances of developing pains.

As we discussed above, both mattresses are great at relieving pressure on the back, making them great options for those suffering from back pain. This is largely due to their medium-firmness and supportive foam layers. However, if you’re experiencing hip or joint pain, we think that both mattresses will likely feel too firm and stiff to be comfortable.

Durability

Owing to their hybrid mattress construction, we can say that both DreamCloud and TEMPUR-Cloud are more durable than most mattresses. However, we think DreamCloud has the upper hand when it comes to durability because of its strong edge support and better warranty policy. DreamCloud offers Lifetime warranty, while TEMPUR-Cloud only offers a 10-year warranty.

Our Final Take

The DreamCloud and TEMPUR-Cloud Hybrid mattresses are fantastic options for sleepers looking for a hybrid mattress. Both mattresses can accommodate most sleeping positions, but if you’re a hot sleeper or share the bed with someone, we highly recommend the DreamCloud mattress for its cooling gel-infused foam layers and excellent motion isolation. If you’re a strict side sleeper and/or prefer the feel of traditional memory foam, then we think you should go for the slightly softer yet still supportive Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Cloud mattress.
