Sleeps Hot

For some people, sleeping hot is an issue that keeps them from having a nice, peaceful rest. Fortunately, most mattress manufacturers have stayed ahead of this problem and started designing mattresses that wick away heat and moisture so that hot sleepers can rest sweat-free. However, there may still be some problems for certain sleepers.

One recent complaint comes from a customer who says that their Helix mattress actively sleeps hot instead of delivering a cool night of sleep like the brand suggests. This customer believes that the lack of cooling ability is a result of Helix’s low price point and states that “you pay for what you get.”

Verdict
  • The Helix mattress is designed with several cooling features, but it may not be the best fit for extraordinarily hot sleepers.

There are several reasons why a mattress might seem to sleep hot for certain people. Memory foam mattresses tend to cause some sinkage and may provide a “hugging” sensation, which can trap heat around the body. Plus, some people naturally have a higher body temperature than others. Overall, the Helix mattress line is designed to sleep cool due to the lack of sinkage up top, the hybrid design with individually wrapped coils providing airflow through the bed, and the cover’s Soft Touch Design for extra breathability. It should work well for most people sleeping with air conditioning.

Solution
  • For extra-hot sleepers, we recommend adding the Helix Ultra-Cool Mattress Pad, a topper that features cooling phase- change material that absorbs heat.

Causes Backaches

Whether you sleep on your back, stomach, side or a combination of all three, it’s important that your mattress properly supports your body type and doesn’t cause spinal misalignment. Some people wake up with back pain, and sometimes that’s because they’re sleeping on a worn-out mattress that might be too soft for them.

One complaint about the Helix line of mattresses comes from someone waking up with back pain every morning. There is a potential chance this could be attributed to the mattress construction and design, but we think there are other reasons behind this issue.

Verdict
  • Each Helix mattress is designed for proper spine alignment and pressure relief in certain individuals. If you choose the correct model for your body type and sleep position, sleeping on this mattress should not cause new back pain or exacerbate chronic pain. If a sleeper experiences back pain while sleeping on a Helix mattress, it might be because they’ve selected a Helix mattress that doesn’t work best with their sleep style.

There are two primary reasons why someone may wake up with a backache. First, it’s possible that the mattress they’ve chosen is too soft or too firm. For instance, stomach sleepers need a firm mattress to support their hips and keep them from dipping too far out of alignment, causing pain. Sleeping with poor spinal alignment is similar to sitting in your chair while slouching: It can cause significant back pain and neck pain over time.

Another factor that can contribute to morning backaches is a lack of pressure relief, which can aggravate pressure points such as the hips or shoulders. Helix incorporates pressure-relieving foam into its mattresses to help prevent this from happening, but if you pick the wrong mattress, you might experience pain. Side sleepers, especially, need to choose a mattress with enough softness to cradle delicate pressure points like the shoulders and elbows. The Helix Moonlight model is a good choice for side sleepers.

Solution
  • Since Helix offers numerous mattresses, we recommend taking the free sleep quiz on Helixsleep.com to determine which option is best for you. In this quiz, you can indicate that you experience back pain, which will help narrow down your selection to a mattress that will ease the aches. If you’re not satisfied with the bed but don’t want to return it, you can request either a firm or soft mattress topper from Helix at no additional cost to adjust the firmness level.

Delivery Does not Meet Expectations

Helix Sleep has locations all over the United States, which allows it to ship mattresses anywhere within the country (and to certain Canadian provinces). After placing an order, customers can expect to receive the new mattress in approximately three to 15 business days. The entire time, you can keep track of your parcel via a tracking number because it ships with FedEx Ground. For an additional fee, you can have a delivery team set up the new Helix mattress and take away an old mattress.

There have been a few complaints regarding the Helix Sleep delivery process. We’ve read reports that customers are unhappy with the three-to-15-day delivery window because they find it too unpredictable. Others say it takes too long to receive the mattress. Some folks are also unsatisfied that a signature is not required for delivery and that FedEx will leave the mattress at the front door.

Verdict
  • We also find that three to 15 days is a fairly large window that can be frustrating when it comes to delivery, but given the made-to-order nature of each Helix mattress, it’s understandable.

Helix Sleep is proud to provide free delivery to all United States residents. Since each mattress is specially made to order, the turnaround time for a new mattress can be lengthy, which is why the company states that it can take between three to 15 business days. Helix also works with FedEx to conveniently deliver mattresses and per the FedEx Ground policy, they will leave the mattress at the door if nobody is home. This means you do not have to take time out of your day and wait at home for the delivery.

Solution
  • If you are unhappy with the standard delivery option, you can purchase white glove delivery, as well as arrange for the removal of your old mattress. In-home delivery means that delivery personnel will bring your mattress inside, unwrap it, set it up, and then remove and dispose of your old mattress. Still, you will need to be home to accept the delivery and allow the team into your house.

Too Soft for Stomach Sleepers

Our bodies require a certain amount of support in order to ensure spinal alignment. The neck, shoulders, back, hips and legs must be level on the mattress throughout the night in order to keep the spine in alignment. Stomach sleepers need additional support for their hips, which can tend to sink into the mattress. That is why stomach sleepers often require a medium-firm to firm mattress that will offer the right support.

One complaint we’ve seen is that the Helix mattresses are too soft for stomach sleepers. These same complaints indicate two major factors: The sleeper gets a better night’s rest on their back, and the mattress is lacking in firmness.

Verdict
  • The Helix line of mattresses includes many models, two of which are firm enough for most stomach sleepers: the Helix Twilight and the Helix Dawn. If a stomach sleeper purchases a too-soft Helix model, then the specific mattress may not be the right fit.

A soft mattress can cause the hips to sink, leading to spinal misalignment while stomach sleeping. However, even if you choose a mattress with a high firmness level, there may still be problems for stomach sleepers if they are heavier. That’s why it’s best to choose a hybrid or fully innerspring mattress that will provide enough bounce and response to keep your hips elevated and supported.

Solution
  • We recommend taking the sleep quiz on Helixsleep.com to find out which mattress will best suit stomach sleepers, especially since the quiz will ask for the sleeper’s weight and height. After all, both of those factors can have a significant impact on someone’s sleep experience. Heavyweight stomach sleepers will want to explore the Helix Plus, specifically designed for the big and tall.

Helix offers 14 different high-grade hybrid mattresses, each with their own unique design and construction, which allows them to accommodate a wide variety of sleepers and sleep positions. The standard mattress line can be broken down into three main categories: soft, medium and firm beds. Depending on your sleeping position and your preference in feel, you are likely to find a mattress in the Helix line that will best suit your needs.

All of the standard Helix models include the following: a DuraDense Foam layer for extra support and durability, a layer of individually wrapped coils for great motion isolation and edge support, and a breathable Soft Touch Design cover to keep hot sleepers cool all night. Depending on which model you choose, there will be some added features in the construction, such as pressure-relieving Memory Plus Foam, ergonomic Helix Dynamic Foam and body-cushioning polyfoam. The Helix Midnight, Helix Sunset, Helix Twilight and many more models make up the Helix line of mattresses.

In addition to the standard and Luxe lines, the Helix Plus mattress is made for sleepers with a higher BMI. And the Birch Mattress, which is made of 100% natural and organic Birch wool, is extremely plush and cool.

Finally, all of the standard models come with an available Helix LUXE model upgrade, which includes a premium quilted top, zoned lumbar support and a more breathable Tencel cover.
