The Helix Luxe mattress line consists of six upgraded versions of each of its standard hybrid mattress models. In addition to creating a taller mattress, the company also includes high-quality features like a premium pillow top, a moisture-wicking TENCEL cover, and zoned lumbar support. Sleepers of all sizes and comfort preferences should be able to find a mattress that provides the right level of support and comfort, placing these Helix models among our top hybrid mattresses.

Key Details About Helix

Helix Sleep is a mattress company that began selling bedding in 2015, and they introduced the Luxe mattresses in 2018. Based in New York, the company has one showroom in the Flat Iron District, but partners with other stores across the country—such as CB2—to provide additional showrooms.

The company is known for its selection of more than 10 hybrid mattresses, each of which is specifically designed for a unique sleeping position and body weight combination. They have six core mattresses: the Sunset, MoonlightMidnightDuskTwilight, and Dawn. Once you decide which of the main models is right for you, you can decide whether you want the standard model or the Luxe model.

Helix is different from other bed-in-a-box mattress brands because of the sleep quiz on HelixSleep.com that uses ergonomic and biomechanic data to help you determine which of their mattress models will work best for your needs.

Helix Sunset Luxe

This mattress is no longer available for purchase. To help you find your next mattress, check out our list of the best mattresses available on the market now.

The Sunset Luxe is the softest model in the Luxe line, and we consider it to be one of the best soft mattresses. Constructed with a memory foam comfort layer, the bed’s medium-soft firmness level is comparable its sister model, the Moonlight Luxe. However, the Sunset Luxe offers more contouring from the memory foam.

The materials and firmness of the Sunset Luxe cause it to closely conform to your body and excel at pressure relief. We recommend it to lightweight and average-weight side sleepers who enjoy a plush feeling mattress. It’s also good for those with joint pain. For more recommendations, check out our best mattresses for side sleepers.

Helix Moonlight Luxe

This mattress is no longer available for purchase. To help you find your next mattress, check out our list of the best mattresses available on the market now.

The Helix Moonlight Luxe has a soft firmness level, just like the Sunset Luxe, earning it a 4.5/10 on our 1–10 mattress firmness scale (where 10 is the most firm). However, the Moonlight Luxe is topped with springy polyfoam, instead of memory foam like the Sunset Luxe.

The polyfoam in the Moonlight Luxe mimics the responsive, supportive feel of latex. As a result, the Moonlight Luxe is a better pick for back sleepers who prefer soft mattresses or who weigh less than 130 lbs. The polyfoam layers work with the ergonomically zoned coils to prevent sagging and encourage spinal alignment, which is great for back sleepers with lumbar pain.

Helix Midnight Luxe

This mattress is no longer available for purchase. To help you find your next mattress, check out our list of the best mattresses available on the market now.

The Helix Midnight Luxe is one of the most popular models in the Luxe collection because it won’t feel too soft or too firm for many sleepers. This quality, in combination with its memory foam comfort layer, helps it appeal to a variety of preferences and provides support for all sleeping positions.

As a hybrid mattress with a memory foam top layer, the Midnight Luxe contours closely to the body and is a better pick for average-weight side sleepers than the line’s other medium-firm mattress, the Dusk Luxe.

The Midnight Luxe also works well for back and stomach sleepers who are average-weight and like the feel of memory foam. All of these qualities place the Midnight Luxe among our best mattresses for side sleepers, and it’s also a great mattress for combination sleepers.

Helix Dusk Luxe

This mattress is no longer available for purchase. To help you find your next mattress, check out our list of the best mattresses available on the market now.

The closest model to the Dusk Luxe mattress is the Midnight Luxe. Both are medium-firm mattresses, but the Dusk Luxe is topped with responsive, latex-like polyfoam instead of memory foam.

If you sleep primarily on your back or stomach, you should feel additional support in the lower back and hips from the Dusk Luxe. The polyfoam will also respond more quickly to your changes in position than slow-moving memory foam.

Another similar Helix mattress is the Helix Plus, which has a slightly firmer feel and extra layers of support for those weighing over 230 lbs.

Helix Twilight Luxe

This mattress is no longer available for purchase. To help you find your next mattress, check out our list of the best mattresses available on the market now.

The Twilight Luxe is one of the firmest mattresses in this lineup, but its top layer of memory foam gives it a slow response to pressure that allows you to sink into the bed for some pressure relief.

You should feel a gentle hug around sensitive areas of the body on this mattress, but you’re not going to sink in as deeply as you would on the Sunset Luxe or the Midnight Luxe. Both of those beds also contain memory foam, but they are noticeably softer than the Twilight Luxe.

The ideal sleeper profile for this mattress is back sleepers, stomach sleepers under 230 lbs, and part-time side sleepers who like a firm feel. It also works well for back sleepers who are seeking lower back pain relief, but side sleepers with joint pain should opt for a softer Helix mattress.

Helix Dawn Luxe

This mattress is no longer available for purchase. To help you find your next mattress, check out our list of the best mattresses available on the market now.

The Helix Dawn Luxe has the firmest feel of all the models in the Helix Luxe line. It’s extra firm, and our team ranked it 8/10 on our 1–10 firmness scale.

The combination of firm polyfoam and coils cause it to have a very even and supportive feel when you lie down. These qualities make it best for strict stomach sleepers and back sleepers, and it’s supportive enough for both average-weight and heavyweight sleeper types. Side sleepers and those with joint pain should choose a medium-firm or medium-soft Helix model, like the Midnight Luxe or Sunset Luxe.

Couples who like a firm mattress will enjoy easy movement on the Dawn Luxe, since it’s topped with firm, responsive polyfoam. For more firm mattress recommendations, check out the best mattresses for stomach sleepers.

Here at Mattress Nerd, we classify lightweight sleepers as weighing < 130 lbs, while average-weight sleepers are between 130–230 lbs, and heavyweight sleepers weigh over 230 lbs.

The right Helix Luxe mattress for you depends on your body type, sleeping position, and individual preferences. The softer Sunset Luxe and Moonlight Luxe mattresses tend to work well for lightweight and average-weight body types, especially side sleepers, but they aren’t quite supportive enough for stomach sleepers and most folks with heavier body types.

The medium-firm Midnight Luxe and Dusk Luxe work well for all body types and sleeping positions. They’re firm enough for lightweight back and stomach sleepers, but cushioning enough for average-weight and heavyweight side sleepers.

The Twilight Luxe and Dawn Luxe are best for average-weight and heavyweight folks, particularly back and stomach sleepers. Side sleepers probably won’t get enough pressure relief on these beds, even though the Twilight Luxe is designed for side sleepers who like a firm mattress. The Twilight Luxe and Dawn Luxe also may be uncomfortably firm for folks with lightweight body types.

Other Considerations: Cooling, Back Pain, and Couples

Cooling

If there’s one strength each of the Helix Luxe mattresses share, it’s temperature neutrality. The coil layer promotes strong airflow that allows body heat to escape out of the mattress. Also, the breathable cover and pillow top are designed for temperature regulation.

With that said, the models with polyfoam will likely retain less heat than those with memory foam. Also, the models with thinner foam layers (generally the firm models) are less like to trap heat.

Back Pain

If you struggle with aches and pains, it’s especially important to choose a Helix Luxe model that’s appropriate for your sleeping position and body type. Those with joint pain should opt for a model that contains memory foam, as this material will contour closely to your body’s joints and provide pressure relief and cradling. Those with lower back pain, should choose a firmer mattress that keeps their spine aligned, especially when stomach sleeping.

Couples

All six of the Helix Luxe mattresses have good edge support thanks to a perimeter of reinforced coils. This means that couples can comfortably spread out on a smaller mattress. Also, the pillow top allows every Luxe mattress to have better motion isolation than most hybrid beds. However, the Luxe models that contain memory foam (the Sunset Luxe, Midnight Luxe, and Twilight Luxe) will have the lowest motion transfer.

How Construction Impacts the Feel of the Mattress

Although a quick glance at the chart above may make it seem like the Helix Luxe mattresses are almost identical, they each have a unique feel that’s created primarily by the bed’s overall firmness and the type of foam used in the top comfort layer.

The Helix Luxe beds with Memory Plus Foam top layers are more contouring than those that are topped with Helix Dynamic Foam. But Memory Plus Foam doesn’t have a prototypical memory foam feel. Rather it’s a soft, hugging, neutral foam—similar to polyfoam, but denser and slower to respond.

The beds with Helix Dynamic Foam in the comfort portion feel bouncier, more supportive, and more responsive due to the latex-like nature of this material.

Helix Mattress Warranty, Shipping, and Sleep Trial & Returns

Shipping

Helix Luxe mattresses ship free to the U.S. and for $250 to Canada. The Luxe mattress should arrive as a bed-in-a-box within five to 14 business days after placing an order. Helix Sleep does not offer white glove delivery at this time, so customers will need to unbox the bed themselves.

After unboxing, the bed will need to air out in a well-ventilated room for about 24 hours. This will help any off-gassing odor dissipate and give the mattress space to expand to its full size. When testing our Luxe mattresses, we needed two people for the unboxing and set up process.

Sleep Trial & Returns

Helix offers a 100-night sleep trial period with all Helix Luxe mattresses, which begins the day the bed is delivered. A 30-night break-in period is required, so you’ll need to sleep on the mattress for at least 30 nights prior to initiating a return with Helix.

Helix will send you a free firm or soft mattress topper if you don’t like the feel of the mattress, or you can initiate a return and arrange for a mattress pickup with Helix Sleep. Once the return is complete, you’ll receive a full refund.

Warranty

The Helix Luxe mattresses are backed by a 15-year warranty. The Helix mattress warranty covers sagging and indentations in the surface that are 1” or deeper. It also covers physical defects that cause the materials to split or crack and manufacturing defects in the mattress cover.

If you find a defect, you must ship it to Helix Sleep at your own expense. If Helix Sleep confirms the defect, they will reimburse you for shipping fees, then repair or replace the mattress and ship it to your address for no additional charge.

Addressing Helix Luxe Mattress Complaints

Poor Delivery Expectations

A handful of Helix customers complained about how long it took to receive their new mattress. Supply chain issues can affect your bed’s delivery time, but we understand that waiting up to two weeks for a mattress can be frustrating.

Keep in mind that supply chain issues—whether related to the holidays or major world events—typically affect all mattress suppliers, not just one. Also, Helix mattresses are made-to-order, so it makes sense that they take a little more time to be delivered.

Too Soft for Stomach Sleepers

The Helix Luxe line of mattresses includes many firmness levels, two of which are firm enough for most stomach sleepers: the Helix Twilight Luxe and Helix Dawn Luxe. If a stomach sleeper purchases a too-soft Helix model, then they may experience discomfort or even develop lower back pain.

We recommend taking the sleep quiz on Helixsleep.com to find out which mattress best aligns with your needs, especially since the quiz asks for the sleeper’s weight and height. Heavyweight stomach sleepers will want to explore the Helix Plus, which is specifically designed for the big and tall.

Helix FAQs

Are the Helix Luxe mattresses worth it?

If you have a higher-than-average mattress budget, then the Helix Luxe mattress line is worth your consideration. Not only are the Luxe mattresses offered in every firmness level, but you can choose whether you want the close contouring of memory foam or the springy buoyancy of polyfoam. Whichever you choose, you also get a support layer of resilient coils and a comfy pillow top with cooling materials. The Helix Luxe line is relatively affordable compared with other luxury online mattresses. Helix also offers an industry-standard 100-night trial period and longer-than-average 15-year warranty.

What’s the difference between the Helix Luxe and the standard Helix line?

It can be helpful to think of each Helix Luxe mattress as a more luxurious, upgraded version of its standard Helix counterpart. So while you’re still getting a comfy, durable mattress when you buy, for example, the standard Helix Sunset, you get high-end additions with the Helix Sunset Luxe. The four primary differences between the standard and Luxe models are the price, construction, coils, and pillow top. All Luxe models are more expensive than the Helix standard models by roughly $600 to $700. The standard models have four layers and measure 12″ tall, while the Luxe mattresses by Helix have six layers and measure 14″ tall. The Helix Luxe beds also have a special feature for spinal support: high-grade, zoned support lumbar coils. These are softer at the head and shoulders, yet have a firmer feel around the torso for lumbar support. Lastly, every Helix Luxe mattress contains a quilted pillow top that provides added comfort and pressure relief for all sleeper types.

How long do Helix mattresses last?

Based on the construction of the Helix Luxe mattress models and the average lifespan of similar hybrid beds, we expect the Helix Luxe mattresses to have better-than-average durability. You can expect a lifespan of roughly seven to 10 years. Also, the Luxe line is covered by a 15-year warranty.
