Our Verdict: The all-foam Bear Pro is an upgraded, premium version of the Original Bear Mattress. It has a medium, accommodating firmness setting, strong marks for couples and co-sleepers, and a price point that’s just above the Bear Original bed but below Bear’s hybrid mattress. The Bear Pro is an excellent all-foam mattress choice for individuals and couples who want a neutral foam feel, great comfort and high-quality construction and the active recovery benefits of a Celliant-blend cover.
Bear offers three mattresses in what can be considered “good,” “better” and “best” tiers with regard to pricing, design and performance. The Bear Pro is the company’s offering in the middle of the pack: it’s a foam mattress with a medium-firm firmness setting (about 6/10 on the firmness scale), a few more features than the Bear Original, a feel and support system that’s suitable for anyone who isn’t heavyweight, and a moderate price point.
In this Bear mattress review, we’ll cover everything you need to know about the Bear Pro mattress to determine whether this all-foam bed is right for you. Keep reading to learn about the Bear Pro’s construction, highlights, pricing and performance as well as details about Bear’s policies.
May Not be Best For…
|✅ All sleeping positions
✅Lightweight and average weight sleepers
✅ Athletes and regular exercisers
✅ Sleepers who like a balance between contouring and responsiveness
|❌ Heavyweight sleepers
❌ Sleepers who like a traditional memory foam feel
The Bear Pro mattress is an all-foam mattress with a four-layer design that incorporates a handful of premium features like Celliant technology, gel memory foam and responsive transition foam. While the Bear flagship mattress has an all-foam feel with a truly contouring hug and the Bear Hybrid has a luxury hotel mattress feel with little bounce, the Bear Pro is squarely between the two. It combines cradling and contouring with a touch of softness that makes it appropriate for sleepers of all positions and most sizes with the exception of heavyweight sleepers.
All-foam mattresses are known for retaining more body heat than innerspring and hybrid mattresses, but the Bear Pro incorporates just enough cooling properties to help you sleep temperature neutral. While we can’t say it’s one of the best mattresses out there for people who sleep really hot, we don’t have anything negative to say about the Bear Pro here.
The copper-infused foam in the comfort layer and the breathable Celliant fabric cover help regulate temperature by promoting airflow through the top layers. Its firmness level (6/10) also helps it stay cool, as firmer mattresses tend to trap less heat than softer ones. It’s one of the most temperature neutral foam mattresses out there, in our opinion. If you’re looking for an option that will actively cool you throughout the night, check out our list of the best cooling mattresses for hot sleepers.
The Bear Pro has a firm yet soft neutral foam feel. It balances support and conforming, which is partially why it can support both lightweight and averageweight body types and provide comfort in every sleeping position.
Lying on this bed, you’ll notice that it has quite a bit of pressure relief, but when you get up it will snap quickly back into its shape. Think of it like a soft, airy gel memory foam bed that has a little more spring and bounce than, say, a Tempurpedic.
The Bear’s thick foam construction helps it earn great ratings with regard to motion isolation and noise reduction: perfect for couples sleeping in the same bed. Most foam mattresses excel in limiting motion transfer, but the Bear Pro is great at both motion isolation and responsiveness. If you sleep with another person and are worried about this, you probably won’t have any trouble with the Bear Pro. Because the Bear Pro works for multiple sleeping positions and delivers motion isolation, it is a great mattress for couples and could serve as a better mattress for sex than other memory foam comparisons.
|✅ Dense base and transitional layer help keep the hips and shoulders elevated
❌ Top comfort layers will contour nicely around the neck and spine
|✅ Two-layer comfort section contours around the hips and shoulders for proper spinal alignment
❌ May not be soft enough for side sleepers who like a plush feel
|✅ Medium-firm feel supports the torso to prevent low back pain and maintain spinal alignment
❌ Not supportive enough for heavyweight stomach sleepers
|✅ Slightly more responsive feel makes changing positions easier
✅ Works great for all primary sleeping positions
❌ Not supportive enough for heavyweight combo sleepers
Back Sleepers: Back sleepers usually need a mattress that’s medium-firm or firm, and the Bear Pro checks that box. Its firmer base and transitional layer will help keep the hips and shoulders from sinking in this position, while the soft foam layers on the top will hug the neck and low back. But if you’re on the heavier side, it might be best to consider a firmer mattress. If you aren’t sure the Bear Pro is right for you, see our picks for the best mattress for back sleepers.
Stomach Sleepers: For stomach sleepers, body weight is the most important thing to take into account when considering the Bear Pro. Some heavy and average weight sleepers may find that their hips sink throughout the night, which can cause low back pain. Lightweight sleepers should feel completely supported on this bed in this position, and most average weight sleepers should be too. However, if you sleep on your stomach and have struggled with back pain on medium-firm beds in the past, we recommend a firmer mattress and our list on the best mattress for stomach sleepers.
Side Sleepers: Most side sleepers should feel comfortable on this mattress. The top two comfort layers will provide contouring around the hips and shoulders to prevent painful pressure points, while the thick foam base keeps the spine aligned. That being said, if you’re a lightweight side sleeper who likes to sink deeply into a foam bed, this mattress might not provide enough flexibility. We think average weight side sleepers will really love the bed’s neutral foam feel and combination of responsiveness and softness. For similar mattresses, see best mattresses for side sleepers.
Combination Sleepers: Combination sleepers will love the Bear Pro’s mix of responsiveness and soft comfort. Its top layers cradle your pressure points in any position, and the bouncier-than-average feel of these same layers prevent you from ever feeling “stuck” in the mattress. It’s a great pick for combination sleepers who aren’t heavyweight and like to switch positions throughout the night.
The Bear Pro is Bear’s upgraded foam mattress. It measures 12” tall and feels like a comfortable, soft foam bed.
Cover: The mattress cover is a removable, Celliant cover that’s designed to wick heat from the sleeper’s body and reflect it back as infrared energy. Covers with this design are said to improve muscle recovery, help people sleep deeply and regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer: The Bear Pro has two comfort layers. The first is a 1” top layer of copper-infused foam, which is antimicrobial and helps draw heat away from the body. This is followed by a 1.5” gel memory foam layer, which further prevents heat retention, promotes cooling during sleep and provides pressure relief and contouring.
Transition Layer: The Bear has a responsive transition foam of polyfoam, which prevents sleepers from feeling the dense support core underneath.
Support Layer: The core of the Bear Pro is a layer of high-density support foam, which serves as a base layer for the upper layers of the mattress. This durable bottom layer is about 7” thick.
