The Leesa is a 10” tall, mixed-foam mattress with a medium-firm firmness setting (6/10 on our firmness scale, with 10 being the firmest). It’s a mattress that, unlike many memory foam mattresses, won’t give you any sort of “stuck” sensation. It’s well-suited for lightweight sleepers, people who like a body-hugging cradle without too much sinking, and strict side sleepers who need plushness at the hips and shoulders.

The Legend is one of Leesa’s medium-firm hybrid mattresses, and it’s also the tallest model from the brand (12” tall). Though the Leesa Hybrid has a similar firmness rating, the Leesa Legend feels somewhat softer thanks to the materials in its comfort layer, which compress directly where weight is applied to create a gentle, pain-relieving hug without excessive sinkage. It has a microcoil support layer, which will prevent stomach sleepers’ midsections from sinking too deeply. Finally, it has a pocketed coil base layer, which increases mobility for combination sleepers and airflow for hot sleepers.

The Leesa Hybrid is a medium-firm hybrid mattress with a slightly less deluxe construction than the Leesa Legend. The Leesa Hybrid has an accommodating feel with bounce like an innerspring mattress, and it’s more affordable than the Legend, so it’s a good choice for guest bedrooms, people on a budget, and couples with different sleeping styles and body types.

The Studio is Leesa’s most cost-friendly option. It’s a three-layer memory foam mattress with a medium-firm feel, so although it offers contouring to alleviate uncomfortable pressure points, it doesn’t lack support to keep the spine aligned. The comfort layer isn’t thick, especially compared to the Leesa Original foam bed, so it’s best for people who don’t have much need for targeted pain relief or want a luxury foam feel. If you need additional pressure relief,  check out the best mattresses for side sleepers.

Leesa Mattress Brand by Sleep Style

Leesa Original Leesa Legend Leesa Hybrid Leesa Studio
Side Sleeper Lightweight
Average-weight
Heavyweight
Back Sleeper Lightweight
Average-weight
Heavyweight
Stomach Sleeper Lightweight
Average-weight
Heavyweight

Here at Mattress Nerd, we classify lightweight sleepers as weighing < 130 lbs., while average-weight sleepers are between 130-230 lbs., and heavyweight sleepers weigh over 230 lbs.

As you can see from the chart above, the Leesa Hybrid is the most universally appealing mattress of the four that the brand offers. As a hybrid bed with a medium-firm feel, it offers just enough support and bounce for combination, back, and stomach sleepers, while its polyfoam and memory foam comfort layers add some pressure relief at the hips and shoulders for side sleepers.

The Leesa Legend, which can be considered a premium version of the Leesa Hybrid, works for nearly the exact subset of sleeper types but has more targeted support for the spine thanks to the microcoil comfort layer. Both models have exceptional cooling. Of the two foam options, the Leesa Studio is ideal for value shoppers. But the Leesa Original’s signature combination of soft pressure relief and full body support is ideal for lightweight and average-weight back and side sleepers who love all-foam beds.

Other Considerations: Cooling, Back Pain, and Couples

All-foam mattresses inevitably trap some heat, so if you’re looking for the best cooling mattress from Leesa, we recommend the Leesa Hybrid or the Leesa Legend (both use coils) for improved airflow. That being said, the Leesa Original and the Leesa Studio have breathable covers and open-celled foams that may prevent some body heat retention and help people sleep temperature-neutral.

If you’re shopping with a partner, motion isolation and edge support may be top of mind in your decision. The Leesa Original has the lowest motion transfer rate of the four, and the Studio does a fair job as well. The Leesa Hybrid and the Leesa Legend have coils and high-density foams that make them bouncier and more responsive, so you’re likely to feel movement across the bed at night. The beds with coils, the Hybrid and the Legend, will have the best edge-to-edge stability and support.

If you struggle with back pain, it’s key to choose a mattress that’s appropriate for your body type and sleeping position. Once you know what firmness level is best for you, you can choose a mattress style from there. In general, back pain sufferers like plush beds with thick comfort foam layers that will hug the tender areas along the spine without promoting unhealthy spinal alignment, and the Leesa Original is an excellent option for this. Check out the best mattresses for back pain for more information.

Its thin-yet-soft comfort layers and firmer feel create a nice floating sensation that suits a wide variety of sleeper types. What Sets it Apart Plush yet durable and supportive feel Premium materials and luxury design Universally comfortable Low cost

How Construction Impacts the Feel of the Mattress

The Studio mattress is the most “basic” of the four beds, with a no-frills design and a feel that isn’t too firm or too soft. Simply put, it will feel similar to a hospital bed; it doesn’t have any special features for added comfort or spinal alignment, but it’s also not a poorly made mattress. On the other end of the spectrum is the bouncy and pressure-relieving Leesa Legend, which is the premium option the brand offers.

The Leesa Legend and the Leesa Hybrid have very similar constructions, but the Legend adds microcoils and plusher foam layers that make it more supportive, durable, and comfortable for most folks. People who like the hybrid design but want to save money will do well with the Leesa Hybrid.

Lastly, there’s the Leesa Original. You’ll notice that LSA200, a proprietary Leesa foam, is on top of a layer of memory foam in its construction. This order is what makes the Leesa feel plush yet supportive; the LSA200 foam is more responsive and dense than memory foam, preventing excessive sinkage, but sleepers still get the hug and contour from the memory foam layer beneath it. This quality makes the Leesa Original a great choice for people who like memory foam beds but don’t want to feel stuck in their mattress.

Leesa Mattress Warranty, Shipping, Sleep Trial & Returns

Leesa ships all its mattresses free via FedEx ground to all 50 states. Using the FedEx Delivery Manager, you can request a delivery date, reroute to a different address, and receive delivery alerts. Deliveries typically take one to five business days. Shipping to Canada is also available.

The beds all come with a 100-night sleep trial period, giving you a little more than three months to test out the Leesa mattress you purchase at home. If you decide you don’t like the bed or it isn’t the right fit for your body during the 100-night trial (after sleeping on it for at least 30 nights), Leesa will coordinate pickup and donate your mattress, then issue a full refund. In some cases, self-donation is also available.

All Leesa mattresses are covered by a 10-year warranty. For 10 years after you purchase your mattress, Leesa will repair or replace it if a defect is discovered. The limited warranty covers deterioration of the mattress resulting in indentations greater than 1” deep, physical flaws in craftsmanship that cause permanent damage to the memory foam, and any physical flaw in the craftsmanship of the cover, including the seams and zipper. Shipping and transportation costs associated with repairs and replacements are the purchaser’s responsibility. A proper support layer, like a box spring or bed frame, must be used in order for the warranty to remain valid.

Leesa FAQs

How much do Leesa mattresses cost?

Leesa mattresses cost as little as $499 for a Twin size and up to $2,599 for a California King, depending on the mattress type you choose. The brand also offers periodic sales to celebrate holidays, so keep an eye on our Leesa coupons page.

Are Leesa mattresses good?

Leesa mattresses feature high-quality components and are made in the U.S. The brand offers multiple bed options, including low-cost foam beds, plush foam beds, versatile hybrids, and a premium hybrid. Leesa also donates one mattress to a family in need for every 10 mattresses sold.

Where does Leesa donate mattresses?

Leesa partners with local and national giving partners to provide beds for their communities. As of April 2021, Leesa has donated more than 37,000 mattresses through more than 1,000 partners. We see these social impact programs often enough with bed-in-a-box mattress brands, but Leesa’s is certainly impactful.

Do any of the Leesa mattresses have off-gassing smells?

Beds with memory foam are typically associated with off-gassing odors, but any odor from the foam layers should dissipate within 48 hours of unboxing the mattress. Be sure to keep the mattress in a well ventilated room to allow the off-gassing smell to dissipate.
