What’s the Firmness Of the Nectar & Puffy Lux Hybrid Mattresses?
When it comes to choosing a mattress, it’s important to consider its firmness level as it greatly impacts your overall sleeping experience. Choosing a mattress with a firmness level that fits your sleeping position will help you get a good night’s sleep and may even help prevent any body aches or pains from happening.
At Mattress Nerd, we rate mattress firmness using a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being as soft as a feather and 10 being as firm as a tabletop. We gave Nectar a rating of 6/10 or a medium-firm rating, while the Puffy Lux gets 5/10 or a medium rating.
What Do the Nectar & Puffy Lux Hybrid Mattresses Feel Like?
Despite being an all-foam mattress, the Nectar provides a very balanced feel thanks to its sturdy construction. Lying down on it, we felt a slight sink minus the feeling of being stuck in the mattress. In fact, we felt like we were lying “on” top of the mattress instead of “in” it. The top layer also felt cool to the touch because of its cooling gel-infused memory foam top layer.
On the other hand, the Puffy Lux Hybrid feels very soft and plush. When we first lay down, we sank into its soft foam top layers but immediately felt supported by the coil layer underneath. The Puffy Lux also sleeps cool thanks to its Cooling Cloud Foam and pocketed coil system, which promotes airflow and dissipates excess heat.
What’s It Like to Sleep On the Nectar & Puffy Lux Hybrid Mattresses?
Out of the sleeping positions, we think that the Nectar is most suited to back sleepers thanks to its soft yet supportive foam layers. Some stomach sleepers may also fare well on the Nectar mattress, but those on the heavier side will probably feel like it’s too soft. Similarly, side sleepers (especially lightweight and heavyweight sleepers) probably won’t get enough comfort and support needed.
The Puffy Lux Hybrid works for different sleeping positions, but we recommend it most to strict side sleepers who want a soft yet supportive cradling for their hips and shoulders. It may also be a good match for some lightweight and average-weight back sleepers, but heavier sleepers and stomach sleepers won’t get enough support from the Puffy Lux since it will feel too soft and sinking.

Average-Weight Sleepers (130–230 lbs)
Average-weight back sleepers will sleep comfortably on both mattresses, but we think the Puffy Lux Hybrid feels a bit more comfy and supportive because of its coil support system. The same goes for side sleepers – both mattresses can accommodate average-weight side sleepers well but again, the softer Puffy Lux may feel comfier than the Nectar mattress. For combination sleepers, we also recommend the Puffy Lux Hybrid because of its responsive coil layers.
We don’t really recommend either mattress for average-weight stomach sleepers, though, since both mattresses are too soft to support and keep the hips lifted.
Heavyweight Sleepers (> 230 lbs)
We don’t recommend either mattress for heavyweight sleepers of any sleeping position. We think that heavyweight sleepers will sink too far into the mattress to the point where it feels uncomfortable. Heavyweight sleepers won’t also get the support they need to maintain a healthy spinal alignment. Instead, we recommend firmer and more supportive mattress options like the ones in our best mattress for heavy people list.
Lightweight Sleepers (< 130 lbs)
When it comes to lightweight back and side sleepers, the optimal pick would be the Puffy Lux because of its plush foam layers and supportive coil layers. It brings a good balance of support and comfort, making it a good option for lightweight sleepers in general. But when it comes to accommodating stomach sleepers, we feel like the firmer Nectar mattress is slightly better than the Puffy Lux Hybrid. For combination sleepers, they should have no problems choosing either mattress.

Temperature
If you sweat easily and want a night of long, uninterrupted sleep, you’ll want a mattress that sleeps cool. Fortunately, both mattresses have cooling features that make them a good choice for hot sleepers.
Most all-foam mattresses tend to sleep hot, but the Nectar mattress counters this by infusing cooling gel into its memory foam top layers. However, after a while, we did notice that there was heat build-up in certain areas. Puffy Lux performs better than Nectar in this aspect because of its naturally cooling hybrid construction and open-cell foam layers that promote cooling.
Motion Transfer
Do you sleep with a partner or a pet in bed? If you said yes, then you probably know the pains of waking up in the middle of the night as your co-sleeper tosses and turns in bed. If this is something important to you, you need a mattress with low motion transfer.
Compared to Puffy Lux, the Nectar mattress is better at handling motion transfer. Through our testing, we felt less movement on the Nectar compared to Puffy Lux. This is expected since most hybrid mattresses aren’t known for good motion isolation because of their bouncy coil support systems.
Edge Support
Edge support is the ability of a mattress to hold up its sides. A mattress with good edge support will allow you to maximize your mattress space and enable you to get on and off the bed more easily.
In terms of edge support, we’d have to give more points to Nectar. Lying down or sitting on its sides felt very sturdy and balanced, which probably means it has good edge support. We felt a slight sink when we sat on it, but you probably won’t fall off. As for the Puffy Lux Hybrid, we felt that it only had average edge support. There’s noticeable sinkage and sagging, especially when we sat on it. However, we don’t think you’ll fall off if you lie down on its sides, so no need to worry.
Pressure Relief
Pressure relief refers to a mattress’s ability to relieve tension off pressure points.
Generally, we think that the Nectar mattress does a good job of relieving pressure specifically for average-weight sleepers (<230 lbs). Its body-contouring foam layers closely contour the body’s natural curves. The Puffy Lux Hybrid is also a great choice for pressure relief since its plush foam comfort system excels at cushioning the body.
Pain Relief
Pain relief is related to pressure relief. If there’s a consistent build-up of pressure in a certain part, that part will likely develop pain and aches. So if you’re suffering from body pain or joint pain, you should get a mattress with excellent pain relief.
Since both mattresses offer great pressure relief, they also provide great pain relief. Based on our tests, both mattresses offered decent pressure relief but only for specific types of sleepers.
Both mattresses can offer decent pressure relief for lightweight to average-weight sleepers. However, both mattresses struggle to relieve back pain since they’re too soft to provide enough support. Instead, we think that both are more suited to those with shoulder pain and joint pain.
When it comes to heavyweight sleepers, we don’t recommend either mattress option. Both mattresses can’t accommodate sleepers above 230 lbs since they struggle in providing enough support and cushion.

The original Nectar and Puffy Lux Hybrid are both fantastic mattress options, especially for lightweight and average-weight sleepers. However, both mattresses have certain features that are best suited to certain types of sleepers.
If you’re an average-weight sleeper, a hot sleeper, or co-sleeping with someone, we highly recommend the original Nectar mattress for its supportive medium-firm foam, cooling gel-infused layer, and excellent motion isolation. But if you’re a lightweight sleeper, a combination sleeper, or someone who prioritizes responsiveness, you should go for the Puffy Lux Hybrid.
