Casper Mattress Warranty Breakdown

Learn what’s really covered in Casper's mattress warranty and how the warranty stacks up against other mattress brands.

Casper Sleep is a popular U.S.-based mattress and bedding company that’s well known for its bed-in-a-box mattresses. They’ve become one of the most popular brands with online mattress shoppers by providing options for every sleeping position and body type, a range of price points, and generous product policies that include a long trial period and ten years of warranty coverage.

Casper offers three mattresses: the Wave Hybrid, Nova Hybrid, Casper Original and the Casper Element. The Casper Original is a memory foam mattress with excellent pressure relief and motion isolation, and we think it’s one of the best memory foam mattresses. The Wave mattress is a luxury hybrid mattress with thick layers of foam to cradle and relieve pressure points. The Nova is a soft hybrid mattress with a lower price point than the Wave and more breathability, edge support, and foam layers than the Original Casper. The Element is Casper’s simple, budget-friendly memory foam option.

In this article, we explore the Casper 10-year warranty to help you sift through the fine print and understand exactly the kind of protection to expect when you buy a new Casper mattress.

Casper Mattress Warranty Overview

All three Casper mattresses are covered by a 10-year limited warranty. As with all mattress warranties, the terms give you specific legal rights regarding your Casper-manufactured mattress. Ten years is the typical length of warranty coverage in the mattress industry, so Casper is right on par with the norm.

Warranty coverage for your mattress will begin on the date you purchase the bed. Repairs and replacements are covered for models deemed defective during the coverage period. Still, you’ll be responsible for the shipping fees required to deliver the repaired Casper mattress or its replacement back to your home. You’ll also have to cover the difference in price if you decide to upgrade to a more expensive model instead.

Warranty coverage is dependent upon whether the owner has a proper foundation to support the mattress. The Casper limited warranty also isn’t transferable. This simply means that if you sell the bed during the 10 year coverage period, the warranty won’t remain valid for the person you sell it to.

How Long Does Casper’s Warranty Period Last?

The Casper warranty period lasts exactly 10 years. Following conventional mattress wisdom, Casper acknowledges that you should replace your old mattress once every decade. From our understanding, Casper’s warranty  doesn’t seem to eliminate protection for certain parts of the bed or issues with the mattress at any point throughout the warranty coverage period.

What is covered by the Casper Warranty?

Deterioration Causing Indentations of Greater than 1”

The limited 10-year warranty covers any visible indentations in the mattress that measure more than 1” deep and occur during normal usage. To receive coverage, you’ll also need to ensure that the indentation and sagging isn’t the result of the use of an improper, unsupportive foundation. Plush beds with soft foam layers tend to collapse slowly over time, so be mindful of this when you first receive your Casper mattress and examine your bed closely for any pre-existing indentations.

One reviewer on ConsumerAffairs.com noted that, while her mattress remained comfortable for the first five months of ownership, it became too soft for her liking over time. Casper did not replace or repair her mattress because  it considers changes in softness different from visible indentations.

Any Physical Flaw in the Mattress Causing the Foam to Split or Crack

Casper’s warranty also offers coverage for physical flaws that cause the foam layers to split or crack. Keep in mind that this type of damage will be difficult to see or feel unless it is significant and can be detected through the mattress cover.

Manufacturing Defects in the Mattress Cover Zipper

If your mattress’ zipper is faulty or cannot zip or unzip because of a manufacturing defect, Casper will replace or repair the mattress within the warranty period. Casper recommends spot cleaning the cover, so removing the cover should only happen if absolutely necessary. It’s unclear how Casper would determine whether a zipper issue was caused by the owner or is a defect due to workmanship.

What the Casper Warranty Does Not Cover

Mattresses Used With an Incompatible Foundation System

Casper’s mattresses are designed to work best on a firm, solid surface, so Casper warranties may be voided if your mattress is not used on a structurally capable, supportive bed frame, box spring with slats, or platform bed that can support the weight of the mattress.

Mattresses Not Purchased Directly Through Casper or Its Authorized Retailers

You’ll need to buy your Casper mattress directly through Casper or from one of its authorized retailers to receive warranty coverage. Previously owned mattresses do not come with Casper’s 10-year warranty.

Sagging and Body Impressions Measuring Less than 1” Deep

Mattress indentations less than 1” deep aren’t covered by Casper. If you file a claim about an indentation, you’ll need to prove that your indentation is visible, more than 1” deep, and not caused by the use of an improper foundation or adjustable bed base. 

Physical Damage, Such as Burns and Stains

Casper does not cover cuts, tears, burns, liquid damage, stains, or any other physical defect to the mattress or cover material; they are all considered physical abuse or damage. Comfort Issues Arising from Normal Wear and Tear

An increase in the softness of the foam in a mattress, whether all-foam or hybrid in design, is normal with time. Casper does not cover change in softness with its warranty. Casper recommends properly caring for your mattress throughout its lifetime by rotating it 180 degrees seasonally for even wear and using a waterproof mattress protector.  A mattress topper can also mitigate the feeling of sagging in the top layer toward the end of your mattress’ lifespan.

Wear and Tear of the Mattress Cover

Issues related to the mattress cover, such as physical abuse or damage, including burns, stains, and tears to the cover material, aren’t covered by the warranty. 

Things that Would Void the Warranty

  • Failing to provide the proper foundation for the mattress.
  • Products used in a manner deemed incompatible with the design.
  • Trade Customers, who receive a three-year warranty period instead.
  • Purchasing the mattress secondhand

Filing A Warranty Claim with Casper

To file a warranty claim with Casper, you’ll need to have proof of purchase (your original Casper receipt), your order number, and a telephone or electronic device with email.

Contact Casper’s Customer Experience Team – You can call +1-800-498-0003 or email support@casper.com to get your claim started. Let them know what the issue is, who you are, and that you want to file a claim. 

Ship Your Mattress to Casper – From here, Casper will coordinate the return of your mattress back to Casper for inspection. Casper will cover shipping costs required to return the mattress. 

Provide Evidence of a Defect – During this time, you’ll also need to send evidence of a defect and any claims to Casper’s designated address. Their email address is listed above and their physical address is listed on their warranty page.

Repairs and Replacements – If Casper deems your claim valid, they will repair or replace your mattress. If you wish to replace your mattress with a more expensive mattress by Casper, you’ll need to pay the difference between the original and the new one. Once Casper repairs or replaces your mattress, Casper will ship the mattress back to you, but you’ll be responsible for the shipping fees.

What should I do if I have a warranty claim?

If you have a warranty claim, find your original purchase receipt, gather evidence of the defect (for example, photos or a video), and contact Casper’s customer support team via email or phone. 

If I purchase the Casper somewhere other than Casper.com, do I receive warranty coverage?

Casper only protects Casper mattresses purchased through Casper.com and any of its authorized retailers, which include Target, Amazon, and Casper retail stores.

My Casper feels softer and more uncomfortable over time. Does Casper cover this?

While Casper’s warranty offers coverage for defects like sagging in excess of one inch, the warranty doesn’t cover changes in softness over time or discomfort related to personal firmness preferences.
