Your mattress’s firmness is measured on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being the softest and 10 being the most firm. Side sleepers will want a mattress that is on the softer side to cushion their hips and shoulders, but back and stomach sleepers will want a firmer mattress that supports their hips, back, neck and shoulders.. The Brooklyn Aurora comes in three firmness levels (4/10, 5/10, 7/10), so it can accommodate all types of sleepers, but the Casper Original is a 6/10 on the firmness scale, making it a top mattress for back sleepers and side sleepers.
If you share a bed with someone else, you’ll find motion transfer to be one of your biggest issues. As you change positions or get in and out of bed, the motion can travel across the bed and disturb your partner. However, mattresses with adequate motion isolation can prevent this. The encased coils of the Brooklyn Aurora absorb movement and minimize disturbance, and the Casper’s polyfoam layer will prevent motion transfer across the bed. Check out our other suggestions on the best mattress for couples.
Getting in and out of bed can become more difficult over time as the edges of your mattress start to sink. That is why you want a mattress with reinforced edges to maintain their structure for a long time. Both mattresses excel in edge support. The Casper’s base layer provides quality edge support for an all-foam mattress and the Brooklyn Aurora’s base layer reinforces the encased coils above it.
If your mattress doesn’t provide proper pressure relief or support, you can expect to wake up with aches and pains, requiring a mattress for back pain. To protect back sleepers’ pressure points in the neck and back or the shoulders and hips for side sleepers, you need a mattress that cradles those areas. Stomach sleepers need extra support to keep the hips supported, so the Aurora firm option will better suit their needs. The balanced firmness in the Casper should contour around the shoulders and hips.
Keeping your spine aligned while you sleep is incredibly important, not just for comfort, but also for your health. Depending on your sleep position, you’ll want to find a mattress made of the right materials and with the proper firmness level to ensure quality spinal alignment. Side and back sleepers will like the Casper Original Mattress and Brooklyn Aurora soft and medium options, but stomach sleepers will want the firm Brooklyn Aurora to keep their spines aligned at night. See our list on the best mattress for heavy stomach sleepers, for proper spinal and pressure point protection.
Not all mattresses are made the same, and not all of them will retain their shape and structure for a long time. Both the Brooklyn Bedding and Casper mattress options are recognized for having outstanding durability that will ensure they last. The base support foam protects the coils as they compress on the Brooklyn Aurora and the Casper is a strong all-foam bed with a durable base.
The best cooling mattresses are built with cooling and temperature regulation technology to keep sleepers cool throughout the night. As a hybrid mattress that is usually cooler than memory foam, the Brooklyn Aurora also has added TitanCool technology that actively draws heat away from the body. However, the perforated foam in the Casper will also prevent heat from being trapped against the sleeper. Both mattresses will keep you cool at night, but for extra hot sleepers, we recommend the Brooklyn Aurora.

The Brooklyn Aurora Hybrid’s top layer is made of proprietary Copper Gel Energex foam, which provides extra bounce and airflow compared to traditional memory foam. The next layer consists of TitanFlex foam that adjusts and responds to your body shape.
Underneath the TitanFlex foam is more sturdy and responsive memory foam that further contours to your body. The fourth layer consists of individually wrapped pocket coils that help promote motion isolation while encouraging airflow. Finally, the base layer of the mattress is made of high-density foam to ensure your mattress retains its shape and structure for a long time. The coils should create a bouncier surface for sleepers to change positions, making the Aurora a better mattress for combination sleepers.
The Casper Original Mattress is topped with a layer of open-cell memory foam to promote airflow and to keep you comfortable. The next layer is made of responsive memory foam that contours to your body and offers support. The following Zoned Support layer is slightly firmer near your hips and back, but softer around your shoulders, giving your body the support it needs. The final base layer of the mattress consists of several inches of support foam to keep the mattress from sagging, and allows it to keep its shape and structure.
