Nectar Lush Mattress Review

Nerd Score: 4.8/5

Our Verdict: The Nectar Lush is an all-foam, upgraded version of the original Nectar Mattress. It excels in pressure relief, minimizing motion transfer and conforms to the body just enough. We think it is the perfect mattress for couples, side sleepers of an average weight, and those searching for an elevated memory foam mattress feeling.

Nectar Lush In-Depth Review

Nectar is one of the most popular online bed-in-a-box mattress brands, and they’re best known for their original flagship mattress, the Nectar Mattress. In 2019, the company introduced the Nectar Lush mattress, a premium mattress that’s softer, a little more expensive, and primarily marketed towards side sleepers.

The Nectar Lush is a memory foam mattress with pressure-relieving qualities that come from its comfort layer of gel memory foam and its transitional and support layers. It offers pressure relief and the signature deep sinking, plush, cradling feel that sleepers expect from and love in a memory foam mattress.

While slightly more expensive than the flagship Nectar mattress, the Nectar Lush does have some qualities that could classify it as a ‘premium bed.’ For example, it has a soft, stretchy, cooling cover that’s easy to remove, high-quality comfort layers, and comes with generous policies. I think the plushness and firmness level of this mattress (roughly a 5.5 out of 10) make it most appropriate for side sleepers who need more pressure relief around the hips and shoulders, but sleepers with other position preferences may enjoy it as well, depending on their weight.

In this Nectar Lush review, we’ll take a deeper dive into the bed’s highlights and construction. I also share who I think the Nectar Lush is best for with regard to sleeping position and weight, and the pros and cons of the mattress. You’ll also learn a little bit about the policies, like shipping and warranty, that comes with a Nectar Lush purchase.

Nectar Lush Highlights

Policies Offered

Nectar offers generous policies with the purchase of the Nectar Lush. The bed comes with free shipping and returns, two free pillows, an extensive 365-night trial period, and a forever warranty. A policy package this good is almost unheard of in the mattress industry.

Memory Foam Feel

If you’re looking for the traditional, deep sinking memory foam feel, this bed has it. Sleepers who like the cradling, hugging, contouring feel of memory foam, similar to that of much pricier mattresses like Tempur-Pedics, will enjoy the thick memory foam comfort layer in this mattress.

For side sleepers, this bed offers ideal conforming at the hips and shoulders. Together, the bottom two layers are supportive enough to keep the spine aligned, but the top layer will immediately respond to the sleeper’s body by sinking in all the right places for a comfortable, pain-free night’s sleep.

Motion Isolation

If you sleep with a partner or a pet and wake easily to their movements throughout the night, the Nectar Lush has minimal motion transfer that can help solve that issue for you. Not only will you not feel the movements of your partner or pet, you probably won’t hear them, either. The Nectar Lush is also exceptionally quiet, something I typically expect out of well made all-foam beds.

Nectar Lush by Sleeping Positions

Side Sleepers

The bed’s pressure relief and conforming make it especially appropriate for side sleepers. It provides the extra cushioning required in the hips and shoulders to align the spine and reduce pain in pressure points. However, it’s best suited for side sleepers who are light to average weight, as this bed isn’t supportive enough for heavyweight individuals in any sleeping position category. Back Sleepers

Although the mattress is conforming, it has a mid-level firmness that makes it appropriate for some back sleepers. Back sleepers will experience comfortable conforming to alleviate back pain while receiving support from the bed’s denser foam layers. Similar to the side sleeping category, some heavyweight back sleepers may experience sinking in their hips on this mattress.

Stomach Sleepers

Stomach sleepers probably won’t find what they’re looking for in this bed. Strict stomach sleepers may find that the bed sags too much in their midsection, and excessive sinking can cause discomfort in the lower back and neck. I think strict stomach sleepers of all weights and sizes would be better off on another mattress.

Pros & Cons of the Nectar Lush

  • Generous shipping, warranty, and trial policies
  • Isolates motion exceptionally well
  • Very quiet
  • Breathable cover
  • Zoned, cooling components in the top layers

  • Pricier than the original Nectar Mattress
  • Not the best choice for heavyweight sleepers

  • Durability is unknown (mattress was released in 2019)
  • Some off-gassing upon unboxing
  • Sleeps temperature-neutral but does not sleep cool

Nectar Lush Firmness

The Nectar Mattress has a medium-firm feel and is roughly a 5.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale. As mentioned, the thick memory foam comfort layer creates the feeling of sleeping “in” the mattress, and it will provide a deep, cradling hug that many sleepers love. Some compare the feel of this mattress to the memory foam feel found on a Tempur-Pedic bed.

When you lay down on it, you’ll immediately sink into the memory foam, which typically appeals to a wide variety of sleepers. It can accommodate lightweight and average sleepers in most positions, but it’s conforming, memory foam feel is certainly tailored to side sleepers. As mentioned, the medium feel may not be the best fit for stomach sleepers, especially heavyweight stomach sleepers. See: Best Mattresses for Plus-Size Sleepers

Nectar Lush Construction

The Nectar Lush is a 12-inch bed that’s comprised of just three foam layers, including a dense polyfoam support core, a responsive transition layer, and a thick gel memory foam comfort layer.

  • The layers of foam are encased in a zippable dual-action cooling cover. The cover is a blend of polyester, nylon, and spandex that’s designed to wick heat away from the sleeper’s body.
  • The top, comfort layer of the bed is three inches of cool flow Visco memory foam. This foam contains a cooling material called AquaCool throughout the center third of the bed that’s designed to cool down the areas of your body that hold the most mass (your trunk and hips).
  • The middle, transition layer of the bed is two inches of Energex foam that’s more responsive and supportive than the top layer.
  • The bottom, base layer of the bed is seven inches of dense support foam, which serves as the foundation for the mattress and aids most in the bed’s motion isolating and noise reducing properties, as well as its edge support.

Nectar Lush Buying Experience

Shipping, Delivery & Return Policies

The Nectar Lush comes with free shipping through FedEx Ground in the contiguous USA. Most customers receive their mattress in about five business days. White-Glove delivery is available for an additional fee and includes in-home assembly and old mattress removal, if needed, upon request.

Customers can return the mattress during the 365-night trial period, but a 30-day break-in period is required prior to doing so. This simply means that you’ll have to sleep on the mattress for at least 30 nights until you can return it. If you decide to return the Nectar Lush, Nectar coordinates pickup of the mattress and the return will come at no cost to you. You also have the option to exchange the Nectar Lush for another model if you decide this mattress isn’t for you.

Nectar Lush Trial Period

The Nectar Lush comes with a 365-night sleep trial, just like the Nectar Original mattress (see our Nectar Mattress Review here). When you purchase a new mattress, you’ll have a full year to determine if it’s the right fit for you. As mentioned, you must sleep on the mattress for at least 30 nights prior to returning it within the trial window.

Nectar offers a generous lifetime warranty for the Nectar Lush mattress. The coverage begins on the date of purchase and is divided into two periods. In the first 10 years of the warranty, Nectar will replace the mattress if it is defective at no cost to the owner, including shipping fees. After this period, Nectar will still replace the mattress if it is defective, but owners must pay a $50 shipping fee each way. At the end of the day, however, it’s not recommended that you keep a mattress beyond about eight years, so the first part of the warranty is the most important one to pay attention to.

You can buy the Nectar Lush online at Nectar’s website. Since the mattress is so new to the market, it’s not currently sold on Amazon or at other third-party online retailers that we’ve seen.

The Nectar Lush is also available at a wide range of brick-and-mortar mattress retailers throughout the United States. We recommend calling your local mattress stores to see if the Nectar Lush is in stock because it is a relatively new product.

Nectar Lush Rating and Conclusion

I like to think of the Nectar Lush as a variation on the Nectar Original that features a slightly thicker profile, higher-quality materials, equally as wonderful policies, and a feel that’s tailored to side sleepers and memory foam lovers.

The medium firmness of this bed, and its cradling memory foam comfort layer, make it a good choice for lightweight and average weight side sleepers as well as lightweight and average weight back sleepers who enjoy the feel of memory foam.

The Nectar Lush may be too soft for heavyweight individuals and stomach sleepers, especially those with back or spinal issues who need more support from the base layer of their mattress.

At the end of the day, the Nectar Lush provides sleepers with a Tempur-Pedic-like memory foam feel at a much more reasonable price. Not to mention, the warranty policies make it hard to resist. Even if you don’t like the bed, you have a full year to return it. If you do enjoy it, the generous Lifetime warranty protects you for a long time.
