The Mattress Nerd’s Take : The Nectar Lush is an all-foam, upgraded version of the original Nectar Mattress. It excels in pressure relief and minimizing motion transfer, and it conforms to the body just enough to cradle the joints. We think it is the perfect mattress for couples, average-weight side sleepers and those searching for a quality memory foam mattress feeling.
|Body Type:||BACK SLEEPERS||STOMACH SLEEPERS||SIDE SLEEPERS|
|Lightweight(< 130 lbs)||4||3||4|
|Average weight (130 – 230 lbs)||4||2||4|
|Heavyweight (230 lbs)||3||2||3|
1 = Very poor 2 = Not good 3 = Fair 4 = Good 5 = Excellent
Back sleepers sleep on one of the heaviest parts of the body. Because of that, it’s important to have the back’s pressure distributed evenly and supported by a bed that’s not too soft. The Nectar Lush has a foam system strong enough to support lightweight and average-size back sleepers, and its medium-firm construction will promote spinal alignment through dense foam layers.
Similar to side sleepers, some heavyweight back sleepers may experience sinking in their hips on this mattress.
The most important consideration for stomach sleepers is to keep the hips elevated enough to ensure proper spinal alignment. Because this mattress is on the softer side, it won’t keep the hips elevated enough for lightweight, average-weight or plus-size stomach sleepers to rest comfortably. For stomach sleepers, the spine won’t stay evenly aligned on top of the mattress.
Sinking in the mattress can also lead to lower back and neck pain, leaving all sizes of stomach sleepers better off on a firmer mattress.
The Nectar provides great pressure relief and contours around the joints, making it especially great for side sleepers. It provides the extra cushioning required in the hips and shoulders to align the spine and reduce pain in pressure points.
However, it’s best suited for side sleepers who are lightweight and average-weight, as this bed isn’t supportive enough for heavyweight individuals in any sleeping position.
Lightweight and average-size combination sleepers who sleep primarily on their side or back should find comfort and support in the Nectar’s memory foam layers. If you find yourself sleeping on your stomach often (especially if you’re a plus-size combination sleeper), the Nectar Lush’s memory foam layers will not provide you with quite enough support to keep the hips elevated properly.
Compared to innerspring or hybrid mattresses, the all-foam Nectar will be less responsive. Essentially, it may mean you’ll feel like you’re sleeping “in” the mattress rather than “on” it. As the sleeper sinks into the layers, it might be more difficult to readjust and change positions. You may also leave indentions into the mattress for longer periods of time before it returns to its original shape. While some people love the soft and luxurious “sinking” feeling that mattresses like the Nectar Lush provide, others will want more responsiveness and supportive than the bed can provide.

The Nectar Mattress has a medium-firm feel and is roughly a 5.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale, with one being the softest and ten being the firmest. The thick memory foam comfort layer creates the feeling of sleeping “in” the mattress, and it will provide a deep, cradling hug.
Because of its plush feel, side sleepers will be able to sink into the contouring layers and feel pressure relief on their shoulders and hips. However, stomach sleepers will cave into the soft layers, resulting in spinal misalignment. Heavier sleepers looking for firmer mattresses should check out our best mattresses for plus-size sleepers article.
The breathable cover of the Nectar is cool to the touch with a gel memory foam layer directly underneath. These two elements draw heat away from the sleeper and dispel the common complaint that memory foam mattresses sleep hot.
The Aquacool center of the second layer prevents heat from building up underneath the sleeper while also serving as a contouring layer around the body. Heavier sleepers may still find themselves stuck in the memory foam layers, where heat has the potential to build up.

While the Nectar Lush may be less responsive, this also means it will move less and decrease motion transfer between co-sleepers. The 12” of memory foam layers in this mattress provide adequate motion isolation, meaning that there’s very little chance you’ll get woken up in the night by a partner’s mid-sleep shifting or even a pet jumping up on the mattress.
Because it’s a plusher memory foam mattress, one complaint about the Nectar Lush mattress is that it lacks edge support. When sitting on the edge, the mattress tends to compress toward the base. This is a common occurrence in memory foam mattresses, but sleepers should be able to spread out across the Nectar while sleeping without feeling like they’re about to fall off. The perimeter is still a strong surface for sleepers.
The additional inch of support in the Nectar Lush, as compared to the original Nectar, provides a deeper sinking foam feeling and additional cradling around pressure points. Resting on the Nectar Lush will allow the sleeper to sink into the Aquacool layer for cooling around the mid-section and pressure relief. The denser base layer will provide the support needed for average-weight and heavier sleepers.
Layer #1: Cooling Fiber Cover: The cover is cool to the touch because of its Tencel construction. It should feel soft and comfortable under the sleeper.
Layer #2: Premium Memory Foam with Aquacool: This contouring memory foam layer incorporates two features in one: central gel cooling and ergonomic support around the hips and shoulders to cradle pressure points.
Layer #3: Energex Memory Foam: A dense transition layer, the Energex memory foam is made to combat the sinking of memory foam and provide bounce and responsiveness.
Layer #4: Supportive & Stabilizing Base: The base layer works to provide durability and support while also improving motion isolation and reducing noise on the mattress.

After this period, Nectar will still replace the mattress if it is defective, but owners must pay a $50 shipping fee each way. At the end of the day, however, it’s not recommended that you keep a mattress beyond about eight years, so the first part of the warranty is the most important aspect of the policy.

The Nectar is the brand’s original mattress, similar to the Lush but more affordable. It does not have the thicker plush layers of the Lush but is better able to support back sleepers, along with side sleepers and couples.
Both of these foam mattresses will provide excellent motion isolation, but may sink along the edges when compressed (for instance, if you sit along the edge).

Both the Tuft & Needle and the Nectar feature multiple foam layers that contour around the sleeper and adapt to the body shape.
Despite their different constructions, they may best suit similar sleeping positions. The foam layers of these mattresses are too soft for stomach sleepers, whose hips will sink and cause the spine to fall out of alignment. However, the adaptive foam of the Tuft & Needle should support lightweight and average weight back sleepers well. Both mattresses will relieve pressure for side sleepers.

As a reputable brand known for quality bed-in-a-box mattresses at an affordable price, this Nectar Lush mattress is best suited for side sleepers and sleepers who love the hug of memory foam.The medium-firm mattress has a balance of cradling for pressure relief with support for back sleepers to stay aligned on top of the mattress.
However, the Nectar Lush may be too soft for heavier sleepers and all stomach sleepers, causing their spines to curve out of its natural shape.
