EcoSleep Luxe Mattress Video Review

Want to see our lab tests with your own eyes? Watch this video breakdown of the EcoSleep Luxe mattress to learn who it will work for, who it won’t work for, and how it performs in key areas.

EcoSleep Luxe Mattress Firmness and Feel

EcoSleep Luxe Mattress Firmness

At Mattress Nerd we rate firmness on a 1–10 scale, where 1 is softer than the green grass on a sunny day and 10 is not much softer than concrete. The EcoSleep Luxe has an adjustable firmness level that ranges from 6/10 to 7/10.

The pillow top contains a firm and a soft layer of latex. You can unzip the pillow top and put either layer on top for a firmer or softer feel. The soft layer on top makes the mattress 6/10 on our scale, which is medium-firm. This is what we call the “universal firmness level,” so it should work well for the average side, back, and stomach sleeper. With the firmer layer on top, the mattress is 7/10, which is best for back and stomach sleepers.

What Does the EcoSleep Luxe Feel Like?

The surface of EcoSleep is super bouncy and elevating. You stay on top of the mattress surface rather than sinking into it. This is pretty typical for latex mattresses. The cover of the mattress is cool-to-the-touch, so you get a nice cooling sensation when you lie down.

What Sleeping Position Is the EcoSleep Luxe Best For?

Body Type: BACK SLEEPERS STOMACH SLEEPERS SIDE SLEEPERS
Lightweight (< 130 lbs):  5 5 3
Average weight (130–230 lbs): 5 4 4
Heavyweight (> 230 lbs):  5 3 4

1 = Very poor, 2 = Not good, 3 = Fair, 4 = Good, 5 = Excellent

Back Sleepers

Back sleeping is the healthiest sleeping position for spinal alignment, and it’s pretty easy to find the best mattresses for back sleepers because all they need is a bed that allows the spine to maintain its natural curve. The EcoSleep Luxe supports alignment and comfort for lightweight, average-weight, and heavyweight back sleepers.

Stomach Sleepers

Stomach sleepers just need to keep their hips lifted in order to keep the spine in line. Lightweight and average-weight stomach sleepers will be aligned and comfortable on the firm EcoSleep. Heavyweight people should look for a firmer bed altogether—check out our list for the best mattresses for stomach sleepers.

Side Sleepers

The best mattresses for side sleepers keep your spine aligned and eases pressure from your hips and shoulders. The EcoSleep Luxe provides great alignment for all side sleepers. Average-weight and heavyweight side sleepers also saw good pressure relief on this mattress. However, lightweight side sleepers may see a concentration of pressure in the hips and shoulders.

Combination Sleepers

A good mattress for combination sleepers is responsive and works for all positions you move into. Combo sleepers should be able to move relatively easily due to the above-average responsiveness of the EcoSleep. This bed is best for lightweight stomach/back combo sleepers, average-weight combo sleepers of all positions, and heavyweight back/side combo sleepers.

EcoSleep Luxe Mattress Performance

Is The EcoSleep Luxe Mattress Cooling?

If you sleep hot, a latex hybrid mattress is a great cooling solution. The EcoSleep features latex foam, which is naturally cooling and uses large perforations for extra airflow. The coils beneath build on that airflow. Plus, this bed features a cool-to-the-touch cover, so you shouldn’t overheat on this mattress.

For similar options, see the best cooling mattresses.

Edge Support

A mattress’s edge support is important for couples who want to utilize the full surface of the mattress, seniors with mobility issues, and people who just like to sleep near the edge of the bed. We gave the EcoSleep Luxe a 3.75/5 for edge support, which is an above average score. The edges are supportive enough, but we still noticed a slight feeling of slipping off the edge when we sat there.

Responsiveness

Responsiveness in a bed can also be called ease of movement because—you guessed it—it refers to how easy it is to move around on the bed. This is a feature that combo sleepers need to pay attention to the most. We noticed that the EcoSleep had great bounce, making it easy for lightweight and average-weight sleepers to move.

However, heavier sleepers may sink a little deeper into the latex layers, making it harder to move. We gave this bed a 3.75/5 for responsiveness.

Motion Isolation: Is it good for those who share a bed?

If you sleep with a partner, the last thing either of you wants is to feel the motion transfer across the mattress as you’re trying to sleep. We gave the EcoSleep Luxe a 3.5/5 for motion isolation, which is above average. We didn’t feel much as our partner was tossing and turning, but we felt movement when our testing partners got in and out of bed.

Noise

When we moved around on the EcoSleep we found the coils to be a little squeaky. Otherwise, the mattress was quiet.

Pain Relief

There are a lot of aches and pains a good mattress can help alleviate, like back pain, hip pain, and shoulder pain. A mattress that keeps your spine aligned can ease back pain. All three sleeping positions should have great alignment on the EcoSleep, making it one of the best mattresses for back pain.

Hip and shoulder pain is typically a big issue for side sleepers. Using our pressure mapping technology, we saw great pressure distribution for average-weight and heavyweight side sleepers. The downside is that we saw a high concentration of pressure in the hips and shoulders of lightweight side sleepers.

Sex

Deciding on a good mattress for sex comes down to responsiveness, cooling, durablity, and noise. We saw great results for cooling, durability, and responsiveness, but you may hear some squeaking from the coils. Even so, we recommend it for you and your partner.

Off-Gassing

Because latex mattresses contain no memory foam, there really was no off-gassing smell.

Durability

The EcoSleep Luxe contains the most durable mattress materials: latex foam and steel coils. We think this mattress will last you for a really long time—5/5.

EcoSleep Luxe Mattress Construction: What’s it made of?

The Brooklyn EcoSleep mattress is a latex hybrid. Why is that important? Because construction impacts the overall feel of the mattress, how it performs, and how long it will last. Check out what each layer of the EcoSleep Luxe does.

Layer #1—Mattress Cover: Starting with this sustainably-sourced cover, this pillow top is made of a combination of wool and organic cotton, so we get some natural moisture-wicking and airflow.

Layer #2—Flippable Foam Core: Inside we have a flippable latex core with one soft layer and one firm layer. To switch the layers, unzip the mattress and pick your desired firmness.

Layer #3—Coil Layer: Here we get into our primary support layer: 8” of pocketed coils. These offer a ton of support as well as some extra bounce and breathability.

Layer #4—Base Layer: A high-density flex base reinforces the coils and adds even more durability to the bed.

How Much Does the EcoSleep Luxe Mattress Cost?

How Do the Policies Measure Up?

Shipping & Unboxing

The Brooklyn Bedding EcoSleep Luxe mattress ships free to your door in a box (there will be a shipping fee around $125 for deliveries to Alaska and Hawaii). FedEx should have your bed to you in about 10–14 business days. Brooklyn Bedding does not currently offer white glove delivery.

Though it was very heavy, it only took us about a minute and a half to unbox the mattress and remove it from the plastic. Because of the heavy materials, we recommend tapping in a partner or two to help you out.

Warranty

You’ll get 10 years of Brooklyn Bedding’s mattress warranty after your trial period is over. It covers any defects in the foam, splitting or cracking (as long as it’s not from improper handling), compressions or sagging deeper than 1”. Be aware that the warranty doesn’t cover an increase in softness or a decrease in comfort.

Trial Period & Returns

A mattress trial period usually begins the day your mattress is delivered. Brooklyn Bedding gives you 120-nights to sleep on the bed before your window of free returns closes. 100-nights is the typical trial period, so Brooklyn gives you even more time with your new mattress.

If you decide to return your bed, make sure you have given it at least 30 nights to break in. During the trial, you can exchange your mattress, they can send you a topper, or you can return your bed for a full refund.

Addressing EcoSleep Luxe Mattress Complaints

  • Not firm enough: After shifting through reviews, we found a common complaint that the EcoSleep isn’t firm enough. We would classify both firmness levels as medium-firm. If you are looking for something firmer, check out the best firm mattresses.
  • Heavy: A couple of reviews said the mattress was extremely heavy as they tried to move it, and we agree. A Queen size of this bed is nearly 100 lbs. Latex hybrid mattresses can get really heavy, so we recommend tapping a partner for unboxing and moving this mattress.

Like the EcoSleep, the Signature is a hybrid mattress that arrives at your door in a box. They both have multiple firmness options, sleep cool, and relieve pressure. However, the Signature works better for combination sleepers and couples concerned about motion transfer. The Signature is also more affordable, but with polyfoam instead of latex, it’s not as eco-conscious as the EcoSleep.

The Saatva Latex Hybrid is another hybrid mattress topped with natural latex. Like the EcoSleep, it’s best for back and stomach sleepers, though the EcoSleep is better for side sleepers.

They both earned average scores for motion isolation and perfect scores for durability and temperature control, but the Saatva allows for easier movement on the mattress surface. Price-wise, the two are similar. The Saatva costs around $100, but comes with a longer 180-night trial period, 15-year warranty, and free white glove delivery.

The Nectar Premier is an all-foam mattress that’s a little better than the EcoSleep for side sleepers. The EcoSleep is better for stomach sleepers and heavyweight back sleepers, but back sleepers under 230 lbs could go with either mattress.

They both have average responsiveness and pressure relief. The Nectar isolates motion better for couples, and the EcoSleep stays cooler and has better durability.

Brooklyn Bedding EcoSleep Luxe Mattress FAQs

Is Brooklyn Bedding eco-friendly?

Not all Brooklyn Bedding mattresses are made from natural and organic materials, but the EcoSleep mattresses are. They use sustainably sourced latex, wool, and cotton. The regular EcoSleep doesn’t have a pillow top, and the whole bed is flippable. Only the pillowtop layer in the Luxe is flippable.

Does the EcoSleep Luxe smell?

Surprisingly no, the EcoSleep Luxe doesn’t smell after unboxing. That is due to the natural and organic materials used instead of traditional foam. Memory foam mattresses tend to have a non-toxic, off-gassing smell; latex doesn’t react with the plastic wrapping the same way foam does.

Is there anything I can do to prolong the life of my mattress?

Yes, you can prolong the life of your mattress! While a latex hybrid mattress is one of the most durable, rotating your mattress from head to foot every few months can squeeze a few extra years out. This works especially well if you and your partner are different sizes.

The Nerd’s Take: What’s the Bottom Line?

The Brooklyn EcoSleep Luxe is good for all sleeping positions, hot sleepers, and eco-conscious shoppers. It’s made with natural and organic materials, and has two firmness levels built in (both on the medium-firm range). If you’re on a budget, this may not be the best bed for you.
